"We don't use the term "Sugarfish killer" lightly, but that's what Rockpool in Beverly Hills has the makings of—a reasonably priced omakase spot in an area known for sushi that costs as much as a car payment. This casual counter from the chef behind Yasu focuses on bargain sushi sets that sprinkle in California-sourced seafood like seared rockfish and bluefin tuna (something you don't see too often). Options span the Light Bite set for $25, to the all-in Deep Sea for $58, which includes 10 nigiri, two handrolls, sashimi, and miso soup. The room is as bare as a soundstage and they're still fine-tuning their takeout operation, but the fish quality is impressive, the warm sushi rice has a nice kiss of vinegar, and you're given a bowl of yuzu sorbet for dessert.
