"Entering the underground glowworm cave at Waitomo was one of the coolest experiences I had in New Zealand — breathtaking and unlike anything I've ever seen. I found the standard 45-minute rafting/boat tour a fun way to float down the underground river and watch the bioluminescent display, though there are also longer options that include abseiling (a five-hour adventure) for those wanting more.
