Look nowhere else for traditional Kyoto hospitality. The staff are top notch. Always ready to help. Full of smiles and energy. Everything we needed to know was explained in details in English. Ohanabou is an incredibly well-maintained and modernized historical town house ryokan, conveniently located with under 10 min walk from Kyoto station and opposite to Higashi Hongan-ji. Our room was lovely and spacious with ensuite toilet. Private shower room was just steps from the room. The free bathhouse was perfect for relaxation after a long day of exploration. Don't miss the Kyoto breakfast which was tasty, healthy and fulfilling. We left Ohanabou full of "Genki". Thank you everyone. Hope to see you again soon.

My partner and I’s favourite Japan stay during our entire trip! The staff are so welcoming and kind. We did the traditional breakfast which was a great experience and very filling to fuel us for a long day or travel. Right across a beautiful temple and about a 5-10 minute walk to train station. Will definitely be recommending to friends and family ☺️

The best experience in terms of accommodation I had in Japan. First of all the location is perfect because it’s right next to the Kyoto station so you can get to Nara, Osaka, Arashiyama and walk to Gion too. Second it’s so authentic and traditional Japanese. The omakase dinner was perfection, I literally had a food coma. The traditional Japanese breakfast is perfection too. So tasty and served with a smile. The rooms are spacious and traditional Japanese. There is huge attention to detail, you get little presents, goodie bag, beautiful yukata to wear. The onsen is very clean and comfortable. The best thing is the staff. Iyako and the other people are reception were so good to me and do kind. Definitely the best ryokan in Kyoto.

Stayed in early March 2025. This ryokan was one of the highlights of the entire Japan trip. The staff and service are at the level of a five star hotel, perhaps better. Even by Japanese standards the staff was exceptional . The blend of service and efficiency combined with warmth and friendliness has been mastered here. The Kaiseki meal and traditional breakfast were excellent and a must do. The location is about a ten minute walk from Kyoto station. If you will be in Kyoto stay here.

This ryokan made our stay in Kyoto unforgettable. The staff were super friendly and accommodating since the moment we arrived at their door. The food and room were exceptional. We appreciate they offered such a superb level of service from which we could joyfully experience Japanese traditional culture in an authentic way. I highly recommend this ryokan and would definitely come back if I visit Kyoto again.

Honestly, during our ten days in Japan, these few nights in Kyoto were our favorite, and that’s because of these wonderful people. Kindness goes a long way and this team was incredibly kind, hospitable, and eager to meet our needs. The rooms are great! Perfect for anyone wanting to experience a Ryoken. Great view of the temple across the street and the proximity to food and transportation is perfect. You don’t need to look for another Ryoken for your time in Kyoto…you’ve found it.

Our experience at Hokkaikan Ohanabo was possibly the best experience of our trip. Not only were the staff the friendliest people, we felt taken care of at each moment. Our room was clean, spacious, and extremely comfortable. Meanwhile, our dinners and breakfasts were endless treasure boxes filled with so many delicious dishes and treats. Lastly, the baths were so soothing, especially after long days of walking. We definitely recommend Ohanabo to any friend or family and would implore you to make a booking if possible. Looking forward to staying the next time we're in Kyoto.

The location is ideal, just a short walk from Kyoto Station, making it incredibly convenient while still being tucked away in a quiet, charming neighborhood. I genuinely cannot think of a single thing that could have been improved. This was one of the most memorable and heartwarming stays we’ve ever had.
