"Jenever - The Flemish liquor Jenever is a juniper flavored liquor from which gin evolved. Today it’s only made in the Netherlands and Belgium and is a strong and popular drink. While the straight stuff may be a bit harsh, jenever bars also feature a wide range of flavored shots from mango to vanilla and everything in between. In Ghent the place to go is ‘t Dreupelkot, run by the usualy grumpy proprieter Pol. The drink is served in tall shot glasses and is a great way to start an evening or just spend some time chatting with friends."

My sister and brother-in-law took me to ’t Dreupelkot to try authentic Belgian jenever, and it was a memorable experience. We tasted the Huisjenevers Korenwijn (42%) and the Caves St Amand Gent Borluut Oude Jenever (55%), both of which were bold and flavorful. The historic interior adds a lot of charm, and the dog-friendly policy is a big plus. However, the owner could have been more engaging, sharing some stories about the jenevers would have elevated the experience beyond just a quick pour and payment. Overall, it’s a nice spot to explore traditional jenever in a truly atmospheric setting.

What a great little Gin Bar. The guy in charge obviously takes pride in his creations and never spills a drop when pouring his gins into your choice of measure.🍸🍹😊 I tried the caramel, the citrus, the honey, and others I can't recall. 🍯🍹😋 Fab place highly recommended. 👍🌟🥂

There is a history. Taste was delicious and 3-4 € for a glass. You must try it. Unfortunately I heard from a guide the old man selling the bar. He is old but still exacting we loved the place and him

Has to be the best Gin bar in the world. It is all shot based but the flavors are stunning. Definitely go here when in Ghent! Stay for a while and try every flavor!

Friendly staff, great prices, nice atmosphere! The only downside is that they smoke inside (mostly standing room, a few stools) there is outside seating, but I'm not sure if it's for this place or one of the other places. Lots of variety of flavors, small and large shots available. The man was kind to offer me a taste before selecting which I'd like. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
My first bar experience and could not have had a better one! Pol is an absolute G anyone complaining about his “treatment” or “personality” can go unalive themselves. A man who has dedicated his life to this craft deserves all the respect! The best part of the night was taking a shot with pol and finally making him crack a smile! Cherish this place while it’s still here because Pol has no one to take it over which is a shame!

You’ll be greeted with a harumph from the distiller himself as he insists that you sip your beverage directly from the counter in order to not spill a drop. 10/10 for local flavor and must do in the area.

Google
Huge selection of shots in a very cozy atmosphere that is not very touristy. Add the historical context of Jenever and the owner who has been making and pouring shots for so many years and you have the making of a very unique experience. Absolutely would recommend to everyone.

Yelp
We stopped here to try an Ale that was on Tap and was the only place in Ghent that had it according to our tour guide. Beautiful Tuesday afternoon around 4 so all outdoor tables were occupied but one opened up after a short wait. We were in a rush as we had a meeting point deadline. Service was a bit slow to take our order. Interior, which was empty given the weather, had character and looked like a cool Bar to have a drink especially when it's cold outside. Dreupelkot is also known for Jenever-juniper flavored liquor. They have 200 offerings on the menu. That said, we were here for Klokke Roeland. (The Roland Bell which hung in the Ghent Belfry). A strong, (11.5% ABV) rich golden brown Ale. Some fruitiness with a slight bitter finish. We enjoyed it! As mentioned , brewed exclusively for Dreupelkot by Brouwerij Van Steenberge. Our server was upbeat and thought we ordered two Cokes (vs Klokke). I walked over and double-checked with him and we avoided a wrong order. Overall, a great stop with nice views of Binnenstad, for Klokke and also to try the Jenever.

Yelp
Come here for a quick jenever shot--you won't want to stay for long as it's tiny and, confirmed by the bartender, always packed! So packed, in fact, that the other night it took a full ten minutes of swerving and squishing before we actually got to the bar. That in itself was a bigger challenge than expected: the floors were so sticky with sugar that ungluing your boots required a good yank and resulted in a resounding smack. Then we had to avoid people coming back with their shots, since they were filled to the brim and splashed as their owners were jostled by elbow and knee. Hence the sticky floors. At the bar, the bartenders were at the ready and quick to serve. You can get a small shot or a larger shooter. We ordered four shots for 10€. We had to look at the menu, which is lengthy, and I initially picked green apple, a cloudy orange mandarin one, Albatross (a lemon-berry flavored shot), and chili pepper. "You sure?" The bartender looked skeptical. I suddenly was unsure, wondering if living in France for too long had made my stomach unaccustomed to serious spice. We were in Belgium, after all. I asked, instead, for his recommendation and he suggested guava. It was only when I turned away from the bar that I saw the advice for newbies scrawled on a chalkboard. Albatross was one of the recommendations. They were all good, all incredibly sweet. Some were murky (mandarin, guava), others clear: all of them poured from bottles with homemade labels. My favorite flavor was the apple, but I'd be curious to try more obscure flavors next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Great 'homemade' booze for decent prices. That's really all there is to it. It can be a bit full and cramped, but that's kind of part of it's charm. A few oldfashioned barkeeps that are in for a chat finish the whole place off. Tip: don't try the hot pepper variant unless you're sure you can handle it!!

Yelp
Jenever, genever, "dutch gin": whatever you call it - this is the best place in the WORLD to come and try over 100 different flavored (and non-flavored) kinds served to you by the famous unenthusiastic legend Pol who's usually smoking a cigar while serving. I've been here twice - I literally stumbled in her by chance my first time - now it's my favorite place in Gent. I might take a train next week just to go then come home. I love it. It's a tiny, intimate little room, and everyone's there for the same purpose - to drink Jenever. It's the international equalizer. The crowd is random - last time we had models, locals, young and the old. it's a great way to meet people from and visiting Gent. Of note: * Jonge jenever - leaves a burn, but a good start * Jalapeno (pepper) jenever - think you can handle the heat? go on. give it a try * Violet jenever - one of a kind * Kreik (cherry) jenever - made in house - nice * Lemon jenever - classic It's a "can't miss" spot in Gent in my opinion. Stop by, try a few, but if you stay a while, don't say that I didn't warn you about one of one of the worst hangovers of your life.

Yelp
If you like jenever (or gin) this is the spot. I tried Filliers jonge, 8-year oude and mango. If I get to go back to Gent, this will be on my must-go list. The place was no-frills, a little crusty with the game playing on the radio. Ambience? Not really. Awesome? Yes.

Yelp
This is a must do in downtown Ghent and has become a tradition for my coworkers to all buy a round on our last night before heading home from business. It is small, crowded, and an absolutely neat place to hang out for a little while. Plan to stand or take your drink outside. Dozens of flavors to try. All good except avoid the hot pepper unless you have a mouth, throat, stomach, and intestinal tract of steel! We love this place for the drinks and the charm.

Yelp
Oh my! What a fun place! The flavors..... there isn't much missing from this man's variety and you will get a fine buzz devouring a few of these. However its hard to stop. I reccomend getting the small size shots so that you can really find out why this place is so special. They have a custard like gin that will detroy you, kindly. This is mentioned before, but it is SMALL, around 3 tables and room at the bar. Pol is a wonderful guy and very helpful with my non-dutch prononciations of menu items. When in Ghent, its a must.

Yelp
I now know where Santa does out in the off season, he rather shockingly pushes shooters. That's right in this tiny hole in the wall, found after going through a narrow alleyway, you will find him. Here he brews up some Jenever (Dutch gin) and other libations, it's like an ice-cream store you choose your flavor from 100's and 100's of choices and he mixes your choice with Gin, and voila you have a customized shot. He can even help out if your looking for a stogey to go with your shots, well worth the trip.

Yelp
I've been here more times than I can count... a 'must see' for anyone visiting this most amazing city!!! For 2-E per shot (of the flavors), you can definitely afford to try them all., or at least, many. But DO sip them, don't shoot. And DO be nice to the local men who are always at the bar, and DO TRY to pronounce those jenever flavors... if you can:) Also, I've noticed it's best on weeknights... not so full of tourists and more locals around, but even when it IS full, it's still always fun. That surly old man (yes, nice title, agreed) has been there forever, and if you fancy the gin, go across the river and buy a few bottles, he's got a shop open during the daylight hours there!!!

Yelp
Great place to have a good beer (the homemade beer is very good, a bit fruity). Nice waiters in this old-style bar. We came here to have a drink before eating in the Leontine restaurant, just next to the bar. Great place to come with friends to drink. Quiet and relax atmosphere. View on the water.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall. 2.20euro pints (sept 2015). Laid back atmosphere. People traffic is high. Cool local bands to boot. Cheers!

Yelp
Have a surly old man pour you a drink and give you the stink eye while you down another shot of jenever. He doesn't say much, but it's part of his charm. With every possible flavor you can imagine, you can stretch your euro pretty far here and end the night nicely toasted.

Yelp
This place gets packed! Unfortunately I was only here for one round, but it was damn good. 3.5 stars. Shots! I want to hit this place up again next time I am in Ghent.
