Yelp
We went for the Winterlicious and it was a great experience. Obviously it was a bit busy due to this being a very good restaurant selection on the Toronto Winterlicous choice. The food was very tasty and presentation was excellent. I will let my pictures do the talking! Nothing was a letdown. And we even found the portions decent. I would recon the wine pairing since we found it relatively generous and the choices were in fact good! The wine server was quite knowledgeable too! We will come back to try other stuff on the regular menu next time!

Yelp
Solid menu that doesn't change the classics Atmosphere: The restaurant has a dark and cozy atmosphere, albeit for a fine dining establishment with white tablecloths. The dining area is scattered with smaller tables and booths on the edges, with an open kitchen at the heart of the restaurant where the team is hard at work. Food: The Winterlicious menu is filled with classic dishes for the restaurant. The tuna tartare was very fresh and almost felt like a salad with the citrus and microgreens and slaw, with a nice kick from the mustard and quinoa, and crispiness from the tuiles. The tenderloin was cooked to a perfect medium rare, although my partner's was a touch closer to rare as it was a thicker cut. The sauces and tomato and rapini helped bring everything together with some tartness and bitterness, to the tender and rich beef. The pavlova was a good finish to the meal, with the sweet meringue and the coconut cream on top with some papaya and citrus on the side. Service: The service was on the slower side, taking about 2 hours for a three-course menu and bread. As dish was brought out, the food was explained but it seemed like they were different servers (that seemed to be in training/fairly new, as they had the item mixed up for a neighbouring table) for each course and our main server seemed impatient at the end of the meal for some reason. Dinner was fantastic with a variety of dishes and techniques used for each dish.

Yelp
I love the ethos of this place. My experience was unfortunately poor. The male host in the white shirt was so curt with us from the moment he came to our table. He sets the mood. It's interesting that every single person in a black dress shirt male or female were not this way. Although we must admit we felt they wanted to get rid of our table right away. Yet empty tables were everywhere. In our experience at other Michelin spots - this was never the feeling we experienced. This was not a great first impression. So then the food. On the higher end of the of summerlicious. It was underwhelming.

Yelp
I came here for Winterlicious and It restored my faith in Michelin stars restaurant. I've been to other Michelin star restaurant but GEORGE Restaurant is top notch and more than 5 stars. I don't need to describe each food, service and ambience coz for me. I am 100% satisfied, full, and happy customer.

Yelp
Came here for my birthday and what an experience this was! The restaurant is beautiful, kinda feels like an indoor garden with metal pavillions as separators as rooms. We were welcomed to the 'chefs table' (requested upon reservation) which was a table looking over the kitchen. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. As 2 people each of us got the 10 course tasting menu. We were pleasantly surprised to get 2 different dishes per course, so we got to try 20 different courses! Such an interesting concept. Each dish was assembled well and had a different theme, taste and texture. Most dishes leaned towards a more tart palette. Using red berries, and vinegrettes to bring out the mid-spring flavours. My one issue with the experience was the lack of description given to dish. I believe that I would have appreciated each dish more if I was given a more indepth explination of the techniques used in some of these courses.

Yelp
I planned a very expensive 40th birthday for my best friend, and group of about 28, and it was a complete mess. I worked with a woman via email and over the phone for two or more months. We organized a private room, custom menu, etc. She was slow to respond and answer questions, but I let it go. The night of the event came along. I traveled (pregnant) from Los Angeles to be there with all guests who had also traveled from NY. When I arrived, as the 4th guest to the event, 3 of the initial guests had been turned to the bar inside the restaurant to buy their drink instead of being served in the open bar, private room that we had reserved. I had a card on file. There was a huge table of beverages set up, but they were told they couldnt have any until the host (me) arrived and I approved it. From there it was a mess, nobody was able to serve themselves wine or cocktails on the table sitting in the corner, but there were only two servers running back and forth down a hallway to a kitchen. We were given a hard time over cocktails ordered that were not previously discussed because they "weren't prepared to make them". Food was supposed to begin by 7:45 after a 7pm arrival, and I had to walk around and find a manager to get an understanding of why nothing was sent out by 8pm. I had to again ask for bread service at 8:15. I could see it sitting in the hallway on trays covered in napkins. Each course was at least 45 mins between. The food itself was great, but the service was abysmal. It was as if they had never run a private event. Finally, the straw that broke the camel's back was that the birthday girl's husband was served a half pour or less even of the end of a bottle of wine. We laughed, but the waitress never came back. Since we were sitting there waiting on the next course for so long (again, I am pregnant and sober), I got up and went looking for somebody to see if they would send around wine again. It was at that point that they told me there were guests in my party "too intoxicated" to be served, and they were being cut off. Mind you the waitress who instigated this seemed very young. We are all late 30s-50s with children at home. Nobody was intoxicated. So then it further escalates because the waitress then says people are passing around illegal drugs. Also not true. We all traveled there. One friend had a candy bar with "mushrooms" but it was purchased legally at a store in Toronto. I ended up spending 30 mins in the hallway talking to any employee there to see if we could have our wine poured and when the next course was coming out because at this point we were all getting antsy and ready to leave. This went on through the dinner course where everybody in our party found out what was happening, and people were being turned away from ordering a drink. The waitress was very dramatic standing in the hallway acting like she had been assaulted because we were so insulted. Everybody continued to treat her with respect, but it was also shocking she was the one they then sent in with the birthday cake to serve our friend. At this point it is 11pm, and we have asked for the check for 30+ mins only to get a slice of cake sent out where we reluctantly sing happy birthday. Although I was the planner, my best friend's husband told me to leave with everybody and he would handle the bill because at this point it is after 11pm, it was super uncomfortable, and rather than getting us out of there the staff is then trying to justify themselves to anybody who will listen about why they are slow, why the waitress thought people were too drunk, or doing drugs etc. The bill was about 10k. We did not have dessert or coffee service and the whole ordeal took about 5 hours total, where people were "cut off for doing drugs". Again, legally purchased candy with mushrooms was apparently the illegal activity. I am pregnant. I personally didnt even see this, but I know some folks had gone to a store in town that day because there was a photo posing by a piece of artwork with a mushroom. Regular store. Didn't look anything like a drug deal to me. Also, ive known these people for 20+ years. I emailed the woman at George who I had organized the event through that evening and told her it was horrific. I requested a follow up call. It took 3 days to get her on the phone. I spent about an hour recounting every detail. She assured me she would speak with the GM and follow up promptly. I am writing here today after almost 30 days because I never heard from anybody at the restaurant. I emailed multiple times over the past month, and finally received a response yesterday. The GM called me today while I was in the car with my 5 year old, and essentially told me he didnt know I was expecting a follow up, and there is nothing he could do because my group was out of control, on drugs etc. He essentially began arguing with me on speaker phone while I was driving with my son, and telling me this was my fault.

Yelp
We went here for a 10 course vegetarian tasting and were blown away by all the plates that were presented to us. The plating was incredible, the food was fresh, the flavors were interesting. The ambiance of this place was beautiful, low lighting inside, reallt nice table settings. Their patio was open too. The server was super nice and did warn us that 10 courses would be a lot of good and we thought we could do it, but honestly it was TOO much haha. I'd recommend the 7 course option. Within the 10 course, we got 6 apps, 1 main, 1 cheese, 2 desserts. We also got the basket of bread and butter with it. Soooo good. Sadly my partner got instant food poisoning (after confirming with his doctor later) after the 5th course. So our server was kind enough to shorten our service to stop with only 1 dessert after the main. The dishes were so unique and interesting, vegetables consisting of tofu (for the mains), avocado, artichoke, beans, snap peas, cauliflower, mushroom and some tremendous sauces. Would've visited this place again if my partner didn't get food poisoning sadly

Yelp
It's been almost five years since last time I tried this restaurant and had the impression that the cooking here was quite old-school style and solid. We decided to try it again for my birthday. The food here was so good. The four of us (including one toddler) ordered a few items to share from their a la carte menu. They also offered tasting menu options at this restaurant with 5, 7, 10 courses at different prices. We ordered a basket of bread (with a few varieties) for sharing before appetizers were served. It was gone so quickly. My boy ate so much. They also provided each of us a spoon of tasteful vegetable. Now the food we ordered: - Wagyu was sooooo yummy. Very soft and tender. Melted in my mouth immediately. - Tuna tartare: I could hardly figure out it was tuna tartare by just looking at the dish. The tuna was wrapped in a layer of crispy filling, which looked more like a crab cake. It was so perfectly flavoured. A dish full of creativity and surprise. - Scallop: topped with some leafy vegetable salad. Yummy as usual. - Gnocchi and halibut were good too, although not the best I've ever had. - Beef ribeye: impressive dish again. They have really good cut for the beef here. - Cow's Cheese platter with pears: I can never say no to cheese, especially when they were paired with refreshing pears. - Chocolate Basque cake: Good but not wowing. Overall, there was no dish that was not good here. The most impressive dishes were the beef, the tuna tartare and the wagyu. The service was okay too but not meeting Michelin standard yet. Maybe that's why they didn't get one star, but I'll give them one if I can! I can imagine this restaurant to be my top recommendation place for special event.

Yelp
George is a great place for someone who is interested in a tasting menu. I came with my fiancée to celebrate our anniversary and we were both very impressed by the dishes. You have the option to choose how many courses you want. We each had different items as the courses came out. It was great we were able to taste so many dishes. The flavours, presentation and service were amazing. The restaurant is bigger and louder than expected. Happy we got to try George, I would highly recommend coming and will come back again!

Yelp
I visited here for our anniversary dinner in June, and it's been a pleasurable experience. We had the Chef's special tasting menu of 5-courses, which I find a better value than ordering a la carte. However, your whole party has to choose it. It's more of a surprise and delight because you will not know what you'll get each course until it's served. We were a little hesitant at first but do not regret it one bit at the end. The fun part is that you and your partner would get something different, so you can taste 10 different plates as a party of 2 for around $400~ including tax and tip (including a glass of wine, bread)! The menu rotates weekly and there a la carte options as well, the selection is not huge on their menu but each dish was tasty. You can tell the server what you don't want. For us is no rabbit, and they ensured we wouldn't have that in our courses. It shows the talent of the Chef in adapting to our preferences. Atmosphere is rustic and romantic with dim lights and there's even an outdoor courtyard you can dine at during the summer. I've been here multiple times for corporate functions, weddings, and now a personal dinner. I'm currently in the process of planning an intimate celebration at George soon so hope it goes well too!

Yelp
All great dinner dates lead to George! Had an amazing start at Secrette with cocktails, wine and small plates before moving downstairs for dinner. Secrette was a swish and quirky cocktail bar - I guess the cool little sister of George! George was magic, great wine, amazing plates - our server was lovely and the som super knowledgeable and totally got me with my preferences. Their wine list is amazing. Also - an end with gelato - matcha lime? Insane and homemade!!!! We will be coming back - what a great night!!!!

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my wife's birthday along with our 3 year old son and my mother in law. This restaurant is now part of my list of favourites in Toronto. The restaurant offers a tasting menu of 5, 7, or 10 courses. However considering we had a toddler we ordered off the a la carte menu instead. It is a rare restaurant where every single dish we ordered can be described as flawless. But George somehow manages to achieve this! While the dishes on offer may not be on the bleeding edge of Canadian cuisine, every dish allows you to truly appreciate what it SHOULD taste like. From the flavours used to the combination of textures to the control of doneness, every single dish showed the true skills of the kitchen staff. Every bite reminded me, "they definitely know what they're doing". We ordered: Wagyu appetizer, tuna tartare, scallop, beef ribeye, halibut, gnocchi (off menu), cheese plate. All in all, if you're looking for a solid meal of classic dishes done absolutely right, George is the place for you. No gimmicks, no experimental/weird food trying to be "creative" to get arbitrary Michelin stars. Just good food that makes you happy.

Yelp
Lovely anniversary dinner. Fresh and creative ingredients. 7 course were explained well but too bad I couldn't do it justice by retaining all the dish details. Attentive waiter that spaced out the meal. We left stuffed ! They accommodate all dietary restrictions and did an excellent job of showcasing a range of savoury dishes. Would recommend for all special occasions. We enjoyed watching the kitchen staff put together fancy plates from our table. It's white table cloth setting yet relaxed and not overly pretentious. A few plates were not very inspiring (see the dessert and amuse Bouche photos) but the rest were quite tasty. Very rich sauces. Enjoyed our experience and overall would recommend.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place. I had heard so many things and elders I know say it's a staple in Toronto. When I went the service was exceptionally slow (maybe it was a busier night than they were expecting). We got the pairing menu with wine and the wine would show up but then the food would arrive 15-20 minutes later. It was really frustrating. The food was nice but for the price I think I would go for Richmond Station instead. It was really pretty. In the nice weather outside on the back patio is lovely.

Yelp
We wanted to start this year's patio season with a bang, so we chose George. The patio was out of this world with a sunken garden section. Lots of room. The last time I was blown away by a patio setting was at a restaurant patio in Hong Kong's the Peak. We chose to do a 7 course chef's tasting menu (times 2). The server told us that each dish would be different. So, the appertizers were phenomenal. For the main, all the proteins were perfectly cooked. The only thing that I wasn't thrilled about from this tasting experience was the repetitiveness of some items such as the Foie gras, asparagus, and sauces. Desserts were yummy. The presentations of each plate were artistic. And the service was on point. Most of all, the patio wowed me.

Yelp
This restaurant is AMAZING! The food, ambiance, and service was outstanding! For those that have never dined at George's, they offer two options, they have an "a la carte," menu which includes 5 standard courses with food of your choice. They also offer a 5, 7, or 10 course tasting menu (as well as a wine pairing). For party's over 2, the chef will prepare 2 different meals (so in our case with 4 people, 2 people go the same thing), We all chose the 5 course menu... To begin, the servers ask if you have any dietary restrictions, or preferences. One person from our party chose to not include beef or pork in their courses, and instead opt for seafood. The first course is a seafood course, second is the "foie gras," course which include fois gras and another type of meat. Third was the main course, our party received venison, ribeye, and halibut for the meat of our main, then comes cheese, and finally dessert. My first course was a hamachi dish (type of tuna) served with roasted carrots. This was served raw, but nevertheless it was delicious. The second course include foie gras, pork tenderloin, and a toasted crisp on top. The main course, my favorite course, consisted of the most flavorful, tender, venison, potatoes, artichokes, and a decadent sauce. Our cheese course consisted of a delicious goat cheese, crackers, and a raspberry jam. Our last course, dessert, as extraordinary... we were celebrating two birthdays that night, which our waitress knew after chatting with us, and due to that, the wonderful staff wrote "happy birthday," on both of our plates! Other than that the pana cotta was deliciously creamy and rich, with the most light lemon curd on the side. The service here was exceptional, there was dozens of waiters and servers that were constantly making the experience more enjoyable! The waiters/waitresses also did a wonderful job explaining each course, which is impressive considering the menu changes daily! The ambiance of the restaurant was also fantastic! There atmosphere was casual, romantic, and sophisticated. The location for this restaurant was also perfect! The last topic I would like to talk in this review was the price. I thought that the price was reasonable for the meals, but, I do believe that the price of bread or sparkling water, was a bit excessive. This being the only slight concern about this restaurant, I was throughly impressed by my experience at this restaurant. Again, it was AMAZING!

Yelp
George is a Toronto icon and gold standard for marking any type of special occasion, or if you are well-heeled, it's simply a great vibe and dinner spot downtown. Since I was celebrating a milestone and on top of that always wanting to try George for myself, it was a natural choice for an epic night out. We dressed formally which I found added to the atmosphere and made the evening feel even more memorable and special. The menus consist of the dinner choices which are either à la carte or chef's tasting of 5, 7 or 10 courses, then there is a cocktail menu, and as well a wine menu. We noticed that other tables had a sommelier assist in their wine options, and we were left wondering where the choice was to have that service added to the experience as our server didn't mention it. The restaurant was full booked with no empty tables and plenty of staff running around trying their best to keep up. They did a great job of keeping us happy and without any real distractions allowing us to enjoy the experience and each others company. The 5-course dinner and drinks were brought out at a nice pace with only an occasional lull over the entire time we ate. The table was booked for 8 pm on a Saturday, and I had also booked at a lounge for after dinner thinking 10:30 pm but we didn't make it until almost midnight so keep that in mind for planning your evening. The 5 courses were a perfect way to experience George. The variety was good and the amount of food was perfect. It didn't occur to us that the 7 courses would have been any advantage. Presentation was beautiful, and it felt nice having each course include an appropriate table setting. This was all done without us being distracted and having to break and lose focus on the conversation. That alone made our evening at George memorable and well appreciated. The description of each course from our server was difficult to understand as it was spoken too quickly, included a fair number of words to parse (each person gets different items), and of course the mask didn't help. It would have been better if they had the items written down to help us appreciate the ingredients better. We had a couple cocktails each which were very good! Careful as these full size cocktails can be very strong and the first one I had went straight to my head. Also keep in mind the restaurant is fairly large and thus had some moments with a chilly breeze where we sat, likely from the door opening. Overall George was a fantastic experience and made me super happy with my choice for a memorable occasion evening out.

Yelp
The very best! Outstanding in every way! We had the best dinner ever at George and it was all vegetarian too!!!

Yelp
George is tucked away; the inconspicuous door leads to quite a spacious and upscale restaurant. Here, you have the option of going by the 5- or 7-course tasting menu, which lasts approximately 3 or 5 hours respectively. We chose to "chart our own adventure" and proceed with selecting our own three courses from the main menu. They offer a vegetarian menu as well, but nothing there stood out to or attracted me. Amuse bouche The servers went around the table to serve alternating plates of amuse bouche. I got the artichoke flan, which was quite gelatinous. Though it had an aesthetic presentation, the flavours didn't leave much of an impression on me. Fogo Crab Many of us chose this as our first course. The diced crab was dressed in crab salad form, topped with a crispy lattice cracker, with cut cauliflower pieces on top. The crab was good! It was light and tasty. Yellow Fin Tuna This was definitely one of my more favourite dishes! The lightly seared tuna is wrapped in cucumber threads and soaks up the soy sauce. A colleague of mine said it reminded him of dim sum. It was a great dish with lots of flavour and depth; there was also an assortment of diced vegetables on the side. What intrigued me was this small bite that was not unlike a marshmallow in taste and texture - super familiar, but I couldn't place my finger on it! Venison I initially wanted the halibut, but the server suggested the venison when I asked... and you can't ever not take the recommendation after asking! Unfortunately, I do believe that this was an instance where I may have preferred the halibut. The venison was heavy and meaty, but didn't particularly stand out in taste or flavour. Served with potato pierogies, the dish felt heavier than expected. I wasn't satisfied by this dish, particularly after looking at my colleagues' buttery and flaky halibuts! Lemon tart We then moved to dessert... as captivated as I was by the gelato choices, I opted for the lemon tart. It was a quite good! Topped with a dollop of meringue, a quenelle of coconut cream, and adorned with black sesame crisps and sponge-like wafers, this was a bougie lemon tart indeed. I do, however, wish it were more than just sweet - some tangyness and sourness from the lemon would have definitely helped cut the richness from the sugar and coconut cream. I then ended my meal with a small pot of "steamy sencha". The meal definitely had some highlights, but the dishes I chose (primarily the venison) simply weren't up to what I was expecting, particularly at that price point. Nevertheless, George delivers on ambiance and is a great place for anniversary dates and business dinners!

Yelp
Reservation for 2 for my husband's birthday. Server explained 5/7/10 course options. We opted for 5. Served amuse bouche - so-so. App: Me something with grapefruit and dijon mustard seeds - strange texture, Him fish souffle. 2nd App: Me lamb pancreas (sweetbread) jam tart - tasted like farm hay, Him pigeon (squab) with strange sauce. Entree: Me wild boar and sweet potato - I tried one bite oft the meat and couldn't eat it, Him extremely rare lamb - he hates to waste food so ate it begrudgingly. By this point both of us were feeling very sick. The manager came over and offered beef with asparagus and complimentary wine accompaniment. We appreciated this gesture, but were so sick we couldn't eat it. We both needed to go to the restroom. When we returned dessert: Me marscapone cheesecake with raspberries, Him apple something. He tried to eat his and left most on his plate. I asked to take dessert home, as well as the beef and cheese plates that we didn't eat. The bill came to $381 with tax and tip. ($135/person plus $8 beer, $20 6 oz wine). Service was good. I emailed the manager to let him know we were both sick and to look into possible food issues. He assured there wouldn't be - it was just us. I paid for the birthday meal, but my husband was unhappily surprised when he heard the price. Wish we had ordered a la carte. This way we would have had a meal we chose and the price probably wouldn't have been as high.

Yelp
My sister and I Recently had the opportunity to try George Restaurant and we were not disappointed. Our party of two were celebrating a birthday and upon finding out the waiter was kind enough to start us off with a glass of bubbly. The waiter recommended the 7 course tasting menu as the 10 was too much and he had never seen anyone finish it. We appreciated his honesty and ordered the 7 and it was the perfect amount. Normally everyone is served the same dishes but were happy to find out that each dish was different and that we'd actually try 14 dishes instead between us. We were happy to try different dishes and were relieved to find out that we didn't have to share the foie gras as we got our own. Each dish was beautifully plated with a mix of flavours and textures and kept us guessing what was next. Similar to what other reviewers noted, the dessert wasn't anything to write home but still enjoyable nonetheless. Overall we had a great experience and would love to come back, this is a great place to spoil yourself.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my partner's birthday. We did a 7 course meal that took 3 hours total. The long wait between courses was not worth the underwhelming flavours we were about to eat. Food presentation was beautiful though. Our server was nice and they gave us fresh plates between each course which was great. The decor and atmosphere is beautiful but the air conditioner was blasting and it was freezing inside. I was really looking forward to this place and am genuinely sad it was disappointing.

Yelp
Had a great four course meal here for a corporate event. Not only was the food fresh and delicious, but the service was outstanding and the bartender was great. I don't usually order cod, but the curry sauce was a nice twist to elevate the dish. The beef was extremely tender, I used my butter knife to cut. Will definitely be back should I return to Toronto. Oh- and the bread

Yelp
I want to be very clear. The food was outstanding. Truly. But what took place this past Saturday was a combination of restaurant greed, a server potentially protecting their table, a lack of communication, and a lack of timing with respect to coordination between the kitchen and sommelier. It was my 52nd birthday, that was indicated in our reservation. We were escorted to the back of the restaurant in what was clearly 'overflow' tables. Poorly located and seemed like an after thought. I literally had the back of a woman head to my right. It was just as unfortunate for her as it was for me. We had asked to be moved to what was an empty table. The server inquired and we were told it was a full house and they could not move us. Despite the reservation having been made months the advance, we chose to leave. My partner, being the more diplomatic of the two of us, spoke to the hostess. The hostess indicated to my partner that they were looking for another table. Our server did not. Either they were and our server intentionally didn't communicate that to us to save his table or it was only in our choice to leave that they reacted and found a solution. Further, the restaurants ability to sync between the food appearing at our table and the sommelier serving us our wine pairing was just poor. We were either left with food and waiting for wine or with wine waiting for food. If you're going spend over a thousand dollars for dinner, go to Canoe.

Yelp
The dining experience was truly an experience! We had the 7 course meal along with wine pairings and everything was perfect! We were very impressed with all the knowledge about the food and wines. The service is top notch and atmosphere very nice and comfortable. I highly recommend you dine here!

Yelp
Located on Queen st E in Toronto with metered street parking in front, this restaurant is quite lovely. We came for a private event and were impressed. After entering and hanging up our coats just past the bar, we were led to an open area for the reception. There was a bar set up and passed hors d'ouevres.....arancini balls, avocado sandwiches on puff pastry and potato pakoras. These were enjoyed by all. They all contained gluten but it was a private party and items were preselected. Then we were taken to the area with tables and seated for our 4 course vegetarian meal. The items were unique and tasty. Salad, celery root and beets, tempeh plate with vegetables and seasonal fruit....the tempeh and fruit were accommodations for my diet. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Other options included fennel and goat cheese plate, gnocchi, chocolate cake and apple sponge toffee.

Yelp
We came here right when lockdown was "done" and we can get eat outdoors. It was pretty busy here but the tables were spaced out nicely to get enough privacy. George Restaurant is an award winning fine dining restaurant in Toronto. People go here for the tasting menu and not usually the a la carte so we decided to go with the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Normally everyone gets the same thing when it's a tasting menu but at George, you won't be getting the same dishes. So between me and my partner, we had 14 different dishes catered to our preferences. Not that you can request this if you visit but some of the highlights of my dinner was the Kombu salmon and wagyu and veal. I noticed that each dish had a bunch of different sauces here and there and when you mix everything together, it blends very well together. More or less, each ingredient compliments each other. I would say that I didn't really have a wow factor throughout dinner. Taste buds weren't exactly stimulated but everything was still very good and service was top-notch. I personally prefer an even more intimate dining setting (4-5 tables at a restaurant) but George is a great place to spoil yourself

Yelp
We took the five course tasting menu with wine pairing. Every one of the dishes was outstanding on its own although the meal as a whole lacked a common thread. Portions were quite generous for a 5-course meal. Service was very attentive and pleasant but a bit rushed. The wine pairing was excellent with some eclectic, but delicious choices. We took a pre-dinner at the restaurant's speakeasy bar Secrette upstairs, and enjoyed the well crafted cocktails in a relaxed ambiance.

Yelp
First time diner and George did not disappoint. The ambience was unique, the food was incredibly creative and delicious, and Penny our hostess was very gracious/knowledgeable. It was a memorable team dinner.

Yelp
Went here for a vendor business presentation/lunch and was very impressed! We were immediately shuttled to a back room by the helpful staff out front, so no wondering around hoping I was in the right place. The ambiance was great - beautifully converted old warehouse with plenty of upscale touches. There were breakfast drinks and snacks available I had a blueberry muffin, which was exactly as a muffin should be, not too dry and not too cakey. The waitstaff was very friendly and helpful when needed, but hardly noticeable and not in your face at all the rest of the time. They subtly took our lunch orders as the presenters began their welcome slides. The four-course lunch itself was quite good! We started with a tasty salad, enhanced by quinoa and avocado. That was followed by an excellent ricotta gnocchi in tomato sauce. The main I chose was salmon with perogie and brusssels, and I definitely did NOT have ordering envy. The salmon was cooked beautifully with a crisp outer layer, and the accompaniments really played well together. Finished off with a seasonal fruit plate, which was super fresh and delicious. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because my vegan colleague didn't seem to have many options (although vegetarian was available) I highly recommend George's for any catered luncheon!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this restaurant for A while so I was super excited when we got a Gorgeous table on their stunning patio. I love tasting menus so we went for the 7 course. To my horror, when they brought our first dish out, my guest and I had totally different dishes. The server informed us that is how their tasting menu works. The expectation is for parties to split each dish with one another. In all my years frequenting fine dining establishments I have never seen a tasting menu that requires patrons to split each tiny dish with each other. Especially during Covid, it's beyond bizarre and frankly just awkrd. Some of the dishes were tasty but nothing to write home about. The dessert was boring and very average and at the end of it all, we were charged $3 for a glass of water and an additional charge for bread. Considering our tasting menu was $150 per person, one would think that would include bread! And a glass of water! (We didn't get a bottle) I will Never go back and I do not recommend this restaurant

Yelp
Awful experience! So went to this establishment to celebrate my birthday. Night started off weird, as they tried to seat us wayyyyyyy back in the room facing a wall, when we specifically asked to be seated in the main area. So once that was resolved we were seated we ordered the food which ended up being bland and over priced. They brought our mains before the appetizers so that was extremely awkward as we were wondering what the F happened to our soups and salad, after 40 minutes when the waitress finally noticed she came and apologized and dragged out the crappy cold appetizers. For a $200 dinner night service was worse then your negative zero star restaurant. THIS RESTAURANT IS A DEFINITE SKIP ON MY LIST!

Yelp
Amazing service and food quality is top notch. Tasting menu is a must try along with their cocktails. Pricey for everyday dining however. x2 5 course tasting menu x6grams black truffle added x4 cocktails $580 after tips

Yelp
This was such a great experience. To start, the server was impeccable. Really friendly and interested in small chatter between courses. I took my girlfriend here for her 25th birthday. We decided to partake in the 10 course tasting menu. Food was amazing. Our meal was about 3.5 hours. Really was a food experience. The mixed drinks are superb as well! I had the Vesper (James Bond Martini) and a New York Sour. Very well made. You can tell the chef really puts in a lot of thought behind the art that he serves to you for each course. I would say the only reason I gave this restaurant a 4 instead of 5 star was because it seemed to take a lot of time between each course and while the food was good, there wasn't that jaw dropping wow factor like you would receive at a Michelin restaurant. While I recognize this doesn't have any Michelin stars, you half expect to have that level of meal at a restaurant like this. This is a must try if you are looking for a high end restaurant in Toronto.

Yelp
Canada doesn't have a lot of white table cloth 4 star restaurants, but George hits that for those who desire it. With different size tasting menus it can accommodate for any appetite. They are also very easy to make adjustments for dietary restrictions and aim to please. The level of service is complimentary to their pricing. This place isn't cheap. Along with your expense account, bring an open mind to trying new dishes. Like most tasting menus it's an experience.

Yelp
Finally I got to try George Restaurant at New Year's Eve, a very special night with the special menu by George. 5 courses set dinner for $175 per person, but end up trying 10 different dishes for 2 people. The service is top notch and professional. Maybe bc of the high hope from the ranking and rating from other yelpers, I also went there with high expectation. The quality of food is good, but not a wow factor. The presentation is great, good for photo taking for sure. The tuna tartare, fogo crab, duck, and chocolate bonet are memorable, but the lamb rack and beef ribeye are better than average, nothing stand out from the main course. Finally, will I go again? Maybe on a special occasion.

Yelp
We did our mini wedding of 35 people here and it was amazing. Everyone enjoyed the food so much that they were still talking about it days after! I would give the food and services 5 starts but I took 1 star off because the event coordinator was not very communicative and very slow at replying. We had to poke them multiple times to get info/answers. It was pretty annoying and added stress to our days, but because our wedding was so small and minimal and didn't involved that much work, we just let it go. If I were planning a big wedding with lots of moving parts and vendors, I would be having a bad day for sure.

Yelp
What drew me to George was to give the tasting menu a try. Arrived at the restaurant and loved that from outside of the restaurant you can see all the chefs going at it. Was seated very quickly despite arriving earlier than the reservation. My date and I both opted for the 10-course tasting. Being allergic to seafood, I made a request and they were very accommodating. What was nice about the tasting menu is the creativity that is spent on each dish and the transition from one dish to another. The starters were smaller in size and by the 4-6 dishes the plates were more generous. The arrangements of the plates were nice. I liked that I was able to essentially have a different meat each plate. Essentially ate a farm. In terms of taste, I really tried to love it but left with more just liking it. Service was impeccable. Forks and knives were changed between plates. As I got up to go to the washroom and moved my napkin, I found it neatly folded waiting for me as I returned. Water was filled constantly. Servers described each dish as they arrived(not that I remember them). Bread bowl was offered throughout the night while waiting between dishes. Overall the dining experience was the charm here. You can definitely see the close attention to detail on the food but the overall taste wasn't captivating by any means.

Yelp
Came here for a friend's wedding , being highly reccomended I was actually excited to sample and be seduced by Chef . And as most would have it when my expectations soar high they tend to fall flat on the line of mediocrity. Credits to the presentation and the how food was served. Almost everything was cooked right, just didn't achieve perfection for me. After all this was considered to be top notched and five stars by most. Case example, I had more greens in my plate than the steak I ordered. Cost cutting clearly evident ( engage me in my poor humour) . I didn't expect a huge chunk of meat for 5 but of course there had to be balance at some point no? Service was sub par , could barely get a server's attention to our table, aside from being served our courses timely that pretty much was it. Let's not get started on a frowning maitr'd / server who had clearly not been happy to come to work and attend to wedding reception. Not trying to be a jerk, just giving credit when due.

Yelp
Great restaurant! Came here the other night and had such a good time. Definitely a good place to come if you want to celebrate an anniversary or birthday bc the ambiance is really nice - romantic, soft lighting, mood music that's not too loud, and attentive service. We decided to share one 5-course tasting menu and some items from the a la carte. Personally thought that the 5-course option was plenty of food, and that we would have been good with just 1 or 2 additional items, but we ordered 3 and could barely stand up at the end of the meal. Happy and stuffed! The tasting menu is really great and you need at least 2 hours to enjoy it. I actually loved most of the dishes that we had from the tasting menu - it was a great sequence of dishes and the flavours really built from each course to the next. Started off with some ceviche that was a good light start to the meal with a great blend of textures and flavours. Then our next dish was roasted duck with foie gras. This was so flavourful and was a lot heavier than the first dish. The main was the lamb, good but almost a step down from the duck dish which was so lavish. Then we had a cheese board and finished with a banana pound cake and mousse dessert, which were a perfect end to the meal. From the a la carte, we had the gnocchi, ahi tuna wrapped in potato, and beef short ribs. My favorite was the tuna - it was so delicious and the flavour combinations were the bomb!

Yelp
This is definitely a five-star dining experience, but you pay for it as well. We made a last-minute reservation here because another restaurant was flooded nearby that we intended to go to. Lucky for us we did. The food is amazing and impeccably prepared in the service is second to none as well though I would expect both given the prices. We did the chefs tasting menu, pretty much the only option here. There were several stand out dishes that included the halibut cheek, rabbit and foie gras, lamb chops and smoked trout. Don't get me wrong, everything was absolutely delicious, but these dishes were better than that. I would love to go back with a bigger budget, but it would definitely be a special occasion only place.

Yelp
If I can describe George with one word. It would be beautiful. The decor, the vibe, and most importantly the food. Hands down if I can give George more than 5 stars. I would. I had the pleasure to attend a wedding reception at George and it was amazing. From the appetizer to the dessert. It was perfect. I'd highly recommend George as a venue for a wedding dinner or for any occasion.

Yelp
Amazing! I really appreciate that there is a vegetarian option for the tasting course, and that it was so diverse and inventive!!!!! I also appreciate when restaurants/bars make fun, more elevated mocktails. Delicious and highly recommend!

Yelp
First time here was for a special birthday occasion. Amazing service & 5 course menu was exceptional. For the two of us we would get different plates each which equates to 10 plates. Beautiful plating! Overall very satisfied but expect to pay a heavy price tag for this experience!

Yelp
I fear that calling this place mediocre would be a compliment. I didn't even arrive with high expectations and I was still extremely let down, for so many reasons. The bad: -My waiter didn't introduce himself and failed to describe dishes with even minimal detail (any small bit of explanation offered was only done so after a question was asked) -Brought out a non-vegan bread basket (after I specified that I'm vegan and ordered only vegan dishes). On top of that, none of the breads were described - the basket was just dropped off hastily and I had to wait for someone else to pass in order to ask if it was all vegan (they weren't sure, so I had to wait again for them to find out - and the answer was no). -Mediocre bread (asked for olive oil, salt and pepper. 10 minutes later olive oil comes out. Have to ask again for salt and pepper). -Terrible food. The artichoke dish was more or less inedible. I took one bite and was done. The only semblance of flavor was acid and cilantro, of which there was far too much. The artichoke was overly fibrous and oily. Presentation was somewhat baffling as well. It seems like someone clearly took a shot and miss at 'fancy' plating. -avocado dish is basically just a half avocado with an odd 'salad' composed of balled vegetables on the side. It was monotonous in both texture and flavor (the flavor being straight avocado and vegetable). I managed to eat about half of this before I decided it wasnt worth it. -the manager checked in after my uneaten artichoke sat in front of me for about 5 minutes. I told him quite honestly how I felt. I did feel somewhat bad about shooting down everything so I said the avocado was 'mostly fine.' He said he'd let the kitchen know and took it away. . -mushroom dish was the best but still not good in any way. Basically every dish had some form of oiled vegetable with a side 'salad' of vegetables cut into cubes or spheres. I ate this dish because after two dishes I didnt eat I was hungry. -my waiter didnt check in about any of my dishes until the third one. When he asked how it was I said 'better,' which was the closest thing to a compliment I could offer. He said no more. When the manager asked the same I gave a similar response. - when my waiter took my last dish away he didnt ask about the check or dessert - he just said nothing, so I had to ask a passing busser for the check. The (sort of) ok: - after a bad meal the manager brought out a complimentary champagne and lemo sorbet. I had no interest in drinking, however. I felt it was a bit odd that he brought this, given that I had not ordered a drink previously. An attempt at reconciliation but not a great shot. I ended up not touching it. I did try the lemon sorbet (which came with salted pine nuts and two cherries). The sorbet tasted like these frozen containers of rita's Italian ice that my mom used to get when I was a kid. I never cared for them. I love fruit (I eat fruit constantly) but somehow they even made the cherries bad. Were they canned? Pickled? Who knows. They weren't good. -manager took off the uneaten artichoke from the bill. This was an awkward, uncomfortable, over all bad dinner. Their meat stuff might be ok. I have no idea. But the accompanying vegetables will not be good, because apparently they dont know how to make vegetables. Best of luck if you come. Hopefully you'll enjoy things more than I did.

Yelp
George's sits in the same building as a very European inspired boutique hotel called The Ivy at Verity, a restored 1850's chocolate factory. Executive Chef Lorenzo Loseto took us on a culinary adventure during our Seven course tasting ($135 per person). Chef's Choice tastings are double-sided which was fun because I was able to taste two different dishes every course. You can only imagine how full I was at the end! The menu was completely custom to us and I was too involved with the experience that I did not write the name of the dishes down. However, I will say that every dish we experienced was cooked to perfection and beautiful plated. I hope my gorgeous photos can justify my lack of words for this exceptional meal.

Yelp
I've been aching to try out a tasting menu - luckily I had the chance to try out the five course tasting menu here for my birthday! Right off the bat, you can tell it's a pretty fancy place judging by the doorman at the entrance and the complimentary coat check service. They also give you complimentary bread throughout your meal that's very soft and fresh. Initially I contemplated getting the 10 course meal, as I heard that tasting portions in general are pretty tiny. After eating here, I can confidently say that the 5 course was already pushing my limits. By the time I finished the last course, I was completely stuffed, full enough to last well into tomorrow. Onto the courses (5 per person; 10 unique dishes): Amuse-bouche: didn't really find anything special about it, although I liked the cheese. My boyfriend really liked his oysters. Fish: tuna/couscous dish was delicious. My own halibut course had a creative assortment of textures and flavours. Foie gras course: absolutely spectacular. Boyfriend said the foie gras was fantastic in particular. I also enjoyed his pork belly. My bison meat was tender and juicy and the accompanying vegetables were full of flavour. There were some grey bits in my dish that totally looked like worms but were actually malloreddus pasta. Main course: I received the lambchops while he got the beef. Both meats were juicy and cooked a perfect medium rare. I especially enjoyed the potato cannoli. Dessert part 1: we each received a trio of sweets. Blackcurrant Jam / avocado sorbet / canelé ; dried fruit cannoli / pear sorbet / nut brittle. All delicious. The sorbet was very creamy and not icy at all. I thought the jam paired really nicely with the avocado sorbet. Dessert part 2: I have a huge sweet tooth, so this was one of the highlights of the night. I had a pistachio blondie topped with mascarpone and some kind of fried(?) bananas coated with cinnamon sugar. Off to the side were roasted nuts, sliced fruit, and some red sauce/jam dots that I particularly liked. The nuts had the most amazing toasty flavour, and the red sauce tasted so mellow and refreshingly sweet. Bananas were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. It was absolutely amazing and my favourite dish of the night. Overall a night well spent (it takes 2.5 hours for the five course). Despite not looking super fatty, their food is actually pretty rich in oil. I started getting full after the fish course, so I probably didn't enjoy the food as much as I would have, had I been completely starved for food throughout the entire meal. One thing that did help is that there's a ~30 min wait time between each dish, giving you a bit of time to digest everything. Just make sure not to fill up on too much bread between courses. It's quite expensive ($240 for two before tax + tip) but definitely recommended for a special occasion or a fancy night out!

Yelp
Came in and got my coat checked. When making a reservation, I asked if I was able to sit on those sofas, and so my wish was granted. From the amuche bouche all the way to the dessert, I savoured every single bite. I was there for about two hours and it absolutely did not feel that long at all. Our server was very nice and attentive. It was also very nice of the chef to personally introduce himself while asking us how our meal was. My only flaw would probably be the foie gras as it was really bitter. However despite that, the overall experience was delightful!

Yelp
So delicious! But so expensive! I had the 5-course tasting menu with wine. If you come here, order the tasting menu, not the à la carte. The chef here and his great team are known for their tasting menus. They have a vegetarian tasting menu and are sensitive to food allergies. To start there was an amuse-bouche and a French bubbly made in the style of champagne but with Chardonnay. It was very nice. Usually I'm not a fan of bubbly but this one wasn't too effervescent and tasted nicer. The amuse-bouche was ok--a yucca fry with a house-made honey mustard drizzle. There was a sad green vegetable, possibly broccolini with missing florets on top, and thinly sliced carrot. It was pretty detailed but not that amusing. The rest that follows was definitely better. The first course was a raw fish course, I think I heard it was a tuna. It had a lot of great flavours and was one of the more attractive dishes. The wine paired with that was a German Pinot Grigio. Next was pork belly with foie gras. It came with some delicious sweet potato thing--thin, savoury slivers. There was a neat noodle-looking thing for presentation that added a good texture contrast. Very good. The accompanying wine was a light red from Spain. For the main course, it was lamb. Pretty good. I have had more flavourful lamb but this was satisfactory. Not the strongest dish but an attractive, pleasing experience nonetheless. The thin, possibly scallop potatoes were amazing. The wine with this one was a 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Niagara region. Very delicious wine! First dessert was an avocado gelato. Accompanying it was a berry syrup of some sort. Very tasty flavour combination, and the accompanying 2003 Cuvée went excellent with it. And finally, the final dessert course, which seemed to be a fancy banana dish. Very fragrant with warm, autumn and winter spices, strawberries, granola, and sugar-coated cooked bananas. The accompanying 2014 Australian dessert wine was amazing. Price was pretty insane. I think the tasting menu was $120 plus $90 for wine pairings plus tax and tip. After everything it was somewhere between $270 and $300 for one person. Definitely not a cheap date, and may be better reserved for special occasions, for which you should make reservations well in advance. I finished everything except the main, which I got packed up. You will be full after those 5 courses. George was such a great experience. I really enjoyed the meal and wine here. Very good attention to detail, and everything was enjoyable.
