1166 Backpackers

This is one of the nicest hostels I have stayed in. The staff — Yurina, Sakura, Yuhie, and Etsuke — were very welcoming and shared many useful tips: which places to visit, what to eat, and where to go in Nagano itself.||The hostel provides bicycle rentals, warm and cold barley tea at any time, and guidebooks about the area.||A highlight for me was that I began speaking Japanese here. Although the staff speak English very well, they encouraged me to use Japanese and helped me to feel the local atmosphere.||Orie, the owner, responded quickly to all my messages, which made communication smooth and easy.||Overall, a comfortable stay with great hospitality!

Amazing hostel. Best in Japan, been here twice already and I can't wait to visit again when I'm back in Nagano. Staff is amazing, very good recommendations for hikes and quite nice chat. Don't hesitate to stay here, lovely place.

A hidden gem hostel in Nagano city - clean, good location and neighborhood. I had a cozy and comfortable stay. Above all, what make this place special is the people who work there. (shout out to them!) They're very warm, friendly, and willing to support you with any information you need. This place is one of the reasons I decided to linger in Nagano one more day. You won't regret staying here :)

I stayed here for two nights and I’m so glad I did! It’s a 95 year old house with a lot of love and care from its staff and owner. I felt well taken care of there, the staff made sure I knew all the local routes and perfect spots for food and onsen’s. The room itself is small but perfect for a short stay! It’s comfortable and with the air con it’s the perfect temperature. Thank you for your kindness!! I will stay again the next time I visit Nagano.

It's been around 2 weeks since I have been here, but I definitely wanted to leave a review because of the great experience. And now I have the time and energy so... I was in a different hostel before in Nagano but decided to change. Great decision. I could leave my luggage at around 11 am without problems. They are very prepared and you could probably stay weeks in Nagano without them running out of recommendations. I already had a quite fixed plan but the possibility was great. When I arrived in the early evening for checkin I was welcomed with a hot tea which was the exactly right thing considering it rained quite a bit and I was W E T. Afterwards I headed out for an eating appointment but when I returned later that evening I was welcomed by a group of staff and guests. I had a great evening with them all. One staff member tried to keep me in the group talks by translating a bit which was very great. The hostel itself is very cozy and a traditional Japanese house It has tatami floor in the sleeping rooms, nice little drawings on the doors, paper covered windows and so on. Nonetheless everything needed for day-to-day use is available, clean and modern. I would stay again if I should be around here again. Hopefully more than one night in that case.

Absolutely wonderful little hostel, with the friendliest and most helpful employees I've ever met. Vibe is homey, Japanese, and Nagano and the areas around beautiful and you'll get only fantastic recommendations for hikes, food and other things to do. Big recommendation!

Etsuko was amazing 😭 she gives wonderful recommendations and goes out of her way for you. The owner was so nice, passed me some camping pegs which I really needed. It’s a home away from home truly!

Amazing Hostel. Many many thanks to the staff. The were kind, super sweet with us, offered us ideas to visit and good places to eat. The beds are super comfy the dormitory isn't too large. The common area as also super cute with tea and coffee freshly made each morning for us from the staff. The hostel us super close by the temple and all cool shops of North Nagano wich has the cutest vibe. The station is also easily accessible by foot, simply 2 roads or take a direct bus. The neighbourhood is quiet at night making the nigh there even more enjoyable. The shower is spacious and there is a dedicated study room for extra calm. I highly recommend this hostel to friends and Backpackers.
