13 Bones Restaurant

I came to eat dinner here with my husband and usually we have a great experience and also drive an hour away, but this time not so much. The waitress we had was rude and seemed like she didn’t want to be there and one of my dishes was served on a somewhat broken plate. Won’t be coming back for awhile!

Such a great little steakhouse. We tried it out yesterday for my birthday. The service was so down-home friendly and welcoming. The food was perfectly seasoned and cooked. We had the best experience here. We can't wait to come back!

The salmon was really delicious. They have a wonderful tuna steak that is hard to find anywhere else. And the steak was cooked to perfection, but would definitely recommend the Salmon with the honey glaze. The vegtables were like a fajita style and very delicious. Unfortunately, they dont have a combo meal like the picture. But we ordered 3 meals and split it two ways, and it was still only $70 total.

First time here, read a few reviews, and I would agree..The Food, service, and experience was great! Our service was great. It was a little bit of a wait, but that was expected. Wings were good, if yoy like them crispy, just ask, I like mine crispy. The pork chops were the best we've had in a long time! They were perfectly cooked, and beautifully grilled!! Salad was great! And the sweet Potato was perfectly cooked as well!! Let your cooks know they are doing an amazing job, and it is appreciated! Thanks for am amazing meal!

Had the steak and rib combo. Was so delicious. Amazing people and the food was awesome.

We had a reservation for our baseball team and families, over 30 ppl. The wait and cook staff were ready to meet the challenge! Food came out hot and at the same time. The wait staff kept glasses filled and were very attentive. And the food was great! I had the Freddy burger but I saw just about everything on the menu come out looking delicious and there were no complaints! Great job and would highly recommended when you have a baseball team or just a romantic dinner for two

Freaking terrible, the steak was not edible the shrimp was like rubber and the flies made impossible to eat anything. They brought some stupid little fan and laughed about the flies.

I recently had lunch at 13 Bones Restaurant in Mt. Airy with a close friend, and it was a fantastic experience! As an Italian, I appreciated the authentic North Carolina atmosphere. The meat was superb, especially the chicken, which was cooked to perfection. Great place for quality food and a warm, welcoming vibe. Highly recommend!

Great food and service! Highly recommend the Buffalo shrimp appetizer. For lunch, I had meatloaf with mac & cheese and coleslaw. Husband had fish and shrimp. Everything was so good!

Food was amazing, my husband had the full rack of ribs and I had fish and chips. Everything was plentiful and absolutely delicious! My husband said he would drive the 6 hours it took to get here just to eat at 13 bones again. I have to say the service was fast for such and the staff knows how to move patrons along.

Excellent service - we didn't like the hush puppies though. They weren't made with corn meal it seems - they were just bad! They also overcooked the medium rare hamburger steak. They had a good salad and ribeye prime rib.

Best ribs! My husband enjoyed the cheddar melt burger which was ginormous. Food is priced reasonably. Service was great. Nice atmosphere.

We live near a large city and are foodies so weigh this review accordingly. Food was not good across the board. e.g., Green beans direct from can, no seasoning or bacon grease (great disrespect to my southern heritage); Mozzarella sticks were cold; hospital grade mac n cheese; kid hamburger was dry, etc.. We did not try the bbq so maybe that would've been better. Service was meh - not warm or friendly but I wouldn't go so far as to say rude. She just seemed stressed out. The fastest thing she got us was our check. I think Yelp and TripAdvisor are saturated with paid reviews to bolster ratings. This restaurant is an example. So sad since you can't trust anything anymore.

We stopped here for a quick dinner and it was pretty good. We got a burger and flatbread and everything was good. The service was pretty good as well, the food came out pretty quick with how busy it was.

It was ok. We all had hamburgers, which were cooked to order. Needed a side condiment, a little dry.

It's okay. 13 Bones is always packed, even though the food isn't excellent. But in this rural town, there aren't too many options for sit down dining that isn't Golden Corral etc. The hostess and servers were nice. Our server was taking her time coming to the table snd after we got the food we had to flag her down for more water, etc. I think she had a big table she was tending to. The food is not wonderful but certain things are fine well. We haven't yet tried the ribs; maybe they're great. The salads are bland even with a protein. Apps are limited to fattening stuff mostly. Burger is average. Don't come here if you crave a good quality steak. The cuts are not the best, and the steaks are a little tough. 13 Bones reminds me of the old Ponderosa except with beer, wine, and cocktails. Dessert selection is very limited as well. If in town again we may return but will go for the rack of ribs.

Do not understand why this restaurant is a 4 star. We thought it was a good sign that the parking lot was full and we waited an hour to be seated because we are from Ohio and have been looking forward to eating at 13 Bones for several months. Wow what a disappointment. Everything was overcooked beginning with the cold peel and eat shrimp. It was inedible along with the cocktail sauce that had way too much horseradish. The homemade chips were good but the "homemade onion dip" was ranch dressing and it was runny. The pork chop was very dry as well as the chicken that came with it. The bed of rice was overcooked and tasteless. My daughter was supposed to get hush puppies with that meal and never got them. My ribs were also over cooked and I could only eat half of the 1/4 rack I ordered. The best part of the meal was the broccoli. Our third plate was a New York strip steak which was good, nothing special but did have some flavor. This meal came with hush puppies which were unseasoned dough balls hence the reason we didn't ask for the ones not served with the other meal. I was glad I got Diet Coke to drink because the sweet iced tea was sweet water that a tea bag had passed over. Not your typical southern sweet tea. McDonald's has better sweet tea by far! We decided to skip dessert because we were expecting another disappointment and just couldn't take anymore. Our waitress took our order and brought our drinks and shrimp appetizer and then we only saw her twice more when she brought me another Diet Coke and to drop off the bill. She never checked in with us and other staff brought us the chip appetizer and our meals. I certainly don't understand the 4 star rating or the busyness of the restaurant.

It maybe the best rated restaurant in Mt Airy but it is so far from great. I personally feel they are cutting corners and quality is suffering. Even the little things like the hush puppies are no longer good. It was dry and there was no visible corn meal in it. My wife had the teriyaki chicken and while the chicken was marinated in sauce, they put no sauce on the plate. And while rice is an inexpensive staple, they barely give you a table spoon of rice on the plate. I had the New Orleans Pasta with shrimp and again not enough sauce, I am pretty sure the shrimp are not local or gulf shrimp but maybe frozen from Southeast Asia. And with a name of New Orleans on the menu, you might expect a little spice in it. Well, nothing doing, I don't even think they cook the pasta in salted water. Tasteless. Another thing is the half price wine on Wednesday which almost all restaurants do in Mt Airy. Their deal is only the $5.00 a glass wine is included which is three undrinkable wines and they don't half price bottles which all other restaurants do. The place is always busy in spite of its shortcomings. The service is always exceptional. The best thing on the menu which they do not make is the Key Lime cheesecake.

We stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon and the place was packed. Our wait was short though and staff were all friendly. My 13 Bones burger was cooked perfectly and served hot (so were the fries). Mrs. W's chopped BBQ was excellent too but she reports that the Mac and cheese was just "okay". Servings were large so we didn't try any desserts. Maybe next time!

From what I seen this place is like a diner. If you sit at the bar you have a chance to see the staff in the back offering cold , old food to their guests. Had my drink and went down the road. Small portions! Yuck

The food was wonderful. The service was great and quick. The ambiance was good there are a lot of tv with sport stuff for the guys!!! I would go back.

Awesome food, awesome service and at a reasonable price . This is a must go to place while in Mount Airy

The staff were friendly, and the restaurant was clean. The music wasn't loud and it wasn't dark like a lot of restaurants tend to be anymore. We got cheese sticks and hush puppies as an appetizer. They were very good. Everyone was pleased with their choice. However, the dry rub on the Memphis Style was a bit too much and quite salty although the meat itself was tender, juicy and delicious.

We started with a great house salad which was delivered within 5 minutes of our order. Bravo ! The ribs and steak was delicious. A very nice wine and beer selection. Service was great on busy Friday night.

Great food, excellent service, very, very reasonable pricing Everything was wonderful, meal for 2 with appetizers was only 30.00, I pay more than double that in my own hometown.

I had a hamburger steak and baked potato. Potato was good but meat had a funky taste and was small. Service was excellent! Place was crowded so I'm assuming there is something there that people liked. It is kinda a homey type place.

We had a ribeye steak which was very tender and cooked correctly. Also had salt and pepper catfish grilled with macaroni and cheese, fries string beans and creamed potatoes. Everything was delicious. Service was on point. We will definitely be back.

The food here was delish! We stopped by on a Friday night and had a short wait of course. The staff was super friendly and helpful! We enjoyed and will be back again!!

We had a party of 4 and were looking for a good lunch spot before we went into downtown Mt Airy. We arrived a little after 12 and were seated immediately. The place is open and airy and was not too loud. The seating area was clean and our waitress was friendly. They have a draft beer selection as well as a bottled beer and wine selection. The beer prices were really reasonable, $5 per bottle which is good. I got the grilled tuna, mashed potatoes and green beans and they were so good. Would recommend the piece of bread vs the hushpuppies. My wife got the popcorn shrimp and it was a dinner for $10. It was a ton of food and great value. We all had a great lunch and would come back.

Went there this past weekend with only 6 people. It was a 20 min wait and that was fine. However we ordered our drinks and she came back with them and took our orders. After waiting an HOUR we went to look for our server to ask if they lost our order or if something was wrong. She said she would check on it... (well thanks that would be nice) She came back out to refresh our drinks and said they will be right out with it. And five minutes later it comes out. I swear I think they forgot about us. So after an hour and 10 minutes we got our Burgers. The food was ok but the service was horrible for 6 burgers orders. Just saying if I have company come in again from out of town. This is NOT the place I would take them. I still tipped the server even though I think we may have been in a better mood if she would have told us that she had checked on our order and gave us updated but the fact that we had to hunt her down to ask about our meals after waiting over an hour.

They were good when they started but now the owners have become too greedy! They are making plenty of money but that's not enough and it shows in the quality of service!

Passing through NC, we unexpectedly found ourselves in Mount Airy for the night, and I guess we just expected a little more from the home of Andy Griffith. And from a place with a name like 13 bones, I think we also expected more of a focus on really awesome NC BBQ. While we didn't really love our food, and the tables and walls were just a little more sticky than you'd hope for, the fried pickles were surprisingly good, and the staff was SUPER welcoming. If you're passing through town, I'd say pass on this spot. But if you're a local, you should push these guys a little! The pieces are there, but the execution needs help.

Hubby, daughter and I went to the Autumn Leaves festival in Mt. Airy over the weekend. We attended the Autumn Leaves festival which included arts and crafts, various festival food tents and of course the 13 bones catering truck. The line was long but it moved quickly. There was outdoor seating set up and plenty of other places to sit in the area. While I have not had the pleasure of eating at the restaurant itself, we were very happy with pulled pork sandwiches and grilled corn. The pork was tender and flavorful. The sandwich came with coleslaw and a soft buttery bun. You can get a vinegar or sweet sauce in the side. The corn was perfectly cooked. They cooked it in the husk as all reasonable people should. Once you order it, they shuck it and use foil and a wooden stick to fashion a handle for easier eating. Next time I am in Mt. Airy, I hope to make it to the restaurant proper.

We've been here twice now and both times, service was friendly and quick, and food was excellent! Hubby had the ribeye and rib combo, while I had the tuna steak. Both steaks were cooked to our liking, medium rare!

I have to say that I first heard about 13 bones because they catered to my niece's wedding. They did an outstanding job, and I feel like a POS that I didn't take down their names because they were fantastic. We ended up going the night after, and I have to say their hush puppies and Ribs and Steak were outstanding. I had an exceptional meal. I highly recommend coming here

Always a great place to eat. Food and service is excellent. The menu has a great variety to offer something for everyone. The desserts are delicious!

We stopped on our way to Charlotte and were not disappointed. Hands down some of the best ribs we have eaten. Strongly recommend to anyone to try this establishment.

I am giving this place four stars for two reasons, the service we got and also the blackened chicken. The server was extremely nice and although I didn't get her name I thought she was very helpful. I ordered a blackened chicken sandwich and hush puppies (the latter is why it doesn't get five stars). These hush puppies were probably the worst I have ever had, extremely dense, and tasted like they had been made hours ago. The server said that is the way they always are and offered to exchange them for the fries which were delicious. The chicken sandwich came with tobacco-fried onions (I guess a local thing) but was very tasty. The blacken chicken though was EXTREMELY good with excellent blackened seasoned flavors and very juicy. My wife got the blackened chicken salad which she said the chicken was just as good as the one I was having. Excellent price at around $24 for both of us with ice tea.

Excellent food. The ribs were the best we've ever had. Our waitress was awesome. It would be my go to restaurant if I lived there.

Ordered to go, everything was correct and ready as I walked in the door. They were super nice and helped me immediately even though it was the Sunday lunch rush. Food was great, especially the popcorn shrimp. Like Calabash quality. My salad was really good as well, love the house dressing. Great options for eating healthy, comfort, or feeding the kids.

13 Bones knows how to serve great food with excellent service! I highly recommend folks try it for themselves.

Popped in today with a group of 7 for lunch and we were seated after a little bit of a wait. If you plan on dining for lunch, plan to come a little early to beat the rush. Fortunately, we were seated in the back room area which is a little quieter. Our waitress was super friendly and accommodating! Every thing came out quickly and was delicious! Star of the show today was the Peanut butter cheesecake, I cannot recommend it enough- so rich and creamy and not overwhelmingly peanut buttery.

Super disappointed, overcooked food was really dry and the atmosphere smelled like a diaper. Would not recommend.

Great place to eat! Love the atmosphere. Food was perfect. I ordered beef tips and they were cooked to order. Mom ordered popcorn shrimp. She said they were great. We have a great waitress too. Will def eat here again next time we're in the area.

Service and food was amazing. Farm to table ribeye was one of the most tender steaks I've ever had. Prices were great. Loved the old signs hanging throughout the restaurant.

Service was fair. I ordered mushrooms and was brought glazed onions. The mushrooms were brought after I mentioned them. I ordered water and was brought Ice tea. That was also corrected. I ordered a medium well ground steak and it was burned. All in all a bad meal.

First the good, the appetizer, Catfish Bites were very good. They were buttery with a good seasoning of salt and pepper. The main courses, the prime rib was cooked well and was well seasoned. However, I was not impressed with the raw "sauteed" vegetables. The trout was not well seasoned. The baked apples had so much butter with them you could see the sheen on them. The loaded bake potato was 2 dollars extra but was only loaded because there restaurant wanted you to do the work with 5 cups of sides to put on.. over all not impressed.

Food was delicious! The owner sources some of the beef. The waitress was great! Highly recommend!

Just moved to Mt. Airy and have eaten here twice! The food is consistently good and they HAVE THE BEST PEANUT BUTTER PIE I HAVE EVER EATEN...in fact, I just went through the drive-through and got 2 pieces for Thanksgiving dinner for my husband and myself! The staff is friendly and efficient! I highly recommend!

Yummy food! Very accommodating as we had our dog with us. Ordered food to go and they had picnic tables so we could eat outside with our 4 legged boy.

Kayla P is the bomb! Her food recommendations were on point. Her service was great. We commented that everyone just seems happy working there. We will be back!

Great food and service. Enjoyed the thick cut ribeye local grown and Grass Fed. Nice bar with a view to the kitchen were the magic happens.

I'm giving it 3 stars only because the service was excellent. Waitress was very friendly and on top of things. Food was mediocre at best. My steak was overcooked and very bland, definitely needed some extra seasoning. Salads were watery and very plain, nothing special at all. My wife's chicken tenders were very good but her fries were cold. We got a piece of red velvet cake for dessert and it wasn't very good. Just didn't seem fresh at all. Very cool little place, a great atmosphere so it's definitely a shame the food wasn't better. Maybe we just caught it on a bad day but I couldn't recommend this place.
