Funky little tapas place with great flavors. Here’s our favorites in order, Mongolian beef, sausage on crostini special, octopus, cauliflower, gnocchi and cured meat plate which was the only one lacking flavor. For dessert we ordered the cheesecake in a tiny mason jar without crust that was so creamy and delicious. Portions are small but we didn’t leave hungry. We were here 4 years ago and during our travels had to come back. Same great place.

Maybe the best restaurant I’ve had in Jacksonville. We had more than 10 dishes and everything we had was superb. I’ll definitely be back.

13 Gypsies has been on my list to visit. Read so many good reviews from my fellow Yelpers so I couldn't wait to try them. As expected, the place is small and very intimate. I think 5-6 tables only with a bar. Having browsed their menu several times, I knew what I wanted to try. Theirs is tapas style and we were a group of 4, so we shared everything. We ordered Cucumber Tomato Salad, Spanish Pork Mojo Skewers, Cauliflower in Curry Sauce, Butter Braised Cabbage, Risotto and Mongolian Beef. We each got a skewer of the pork and the beef, and they are definitively the dish that stood out. Savory and delicious! However, the rest of the dishes were just okay, I was expecting an explosion of flavors and they were just underwhelming. Taste for me is subjective, so I would still encourage everyone to visit this place.

One of the most disappointing and unprofessional dining experiences we’ve had — made even worse because we used to love this restaurant and had looked forward to this night. We made a reservation at 13 Gypsies for my husband’s birthday, confirmed it the day of, and at no point — during booking, on the phone, or upon arrival — were we told there was a time limit for our table. Tapas is meant to be a slow, shared, conversational experience, not something you rush through on a timer. Yet 1 hour and 45 minutes into our meal, after ordering several dishes and still enjoying our night, our server suddenly told us we had hit a two-hour table limit and would need to either move outside or pack our food to go. She admitted she should have told us earlier — but that doesn’t undo the disruption or the complete lack of professionalism. To make things worse, a back-of-house chef stopped me on the way to the bathroom to inform me the time limit is actually 1.5 hours for reservations — contradicting what our server had just said and adding a layer of condescension to an already rude experience. Multiple staff continued encouraging us to order throughout the night, never once mentioning we were approaching any kind of limit. We spent $60 just getting there, expecting a relaxed and special evening. Instead, we were rushed out, confused, and treated like a problem. If you have strict time limits, you need to communicate that upfront — at the time of reservation, when confirming, and again before the meal begins. You can’t promote a slow tapas-style dining concept and then pressure people to eat like they’re at a fast-casual restaurant. We will never return — not after being treated so poorly at a place we once recommended often and enthusiastically. Hospitality matters. Sadly, that was nowhere to be found.

Google
Delicious food, great service and atmosphere. Definitely make a reservation as it's a tiny place, but I loved how intimate and cozy it was. We had the peasant bread, potatoes, kale empanada, shrimp, chorizo, and Tres Leches cake. Everything was so good it's hard to pick a favorite, but the combination of chorizo, dates, and pear was like nothing I've had before.

Google
Our favs were the butter-braised cabbage and the mushroom escabeche. The cabbage is something we will diligently try (and probably fail) to re-create at home! If you’re a fan of spice, this dish will pleasantly surprise you! We loved the service and ambience. Our server was enthusiastic and welcoming and she was very helpful with recommendations. All in all, the prices are high for tapas and the amount of food you receive, but it’s a nice experience to add to your list of “have tried”. Great for a date night. Suggest if you’re hungry, perhaps order the risotto or something that might fill you up more. Enjoy!

It's sometimes difficult to get a reservation at this place (especially on weekends) so make sure you book early. I have not been here in probably 2 years and might I say, this place has gotten better then the last time! This unassuming quaint place located next to a bike shop is one of the better meals I have had in the recent years. And the service was just as good as the food! It's tapas style so don't be afraid to order 3-4 dishes and a bottle of wine. We of course almost explored rhe entire menu and ordered 8-9 options... and ate it all... it was THAT good. Chef Kevin is really doing a 🔥 job at 13 Gypsies and he's a really cool dude on too of it. Already can't wait to go back there next week for our weekly date night. Just came back after almost I think 2 years... I didn't think this place could get better. It did. New menu items, improved flavor. After moving out of Jax, this is still in my top 5 favorite restaurants I have ever visited. Do me a favor, order one of everything. Thank you Chefs Howard and Kevin yet again. This place is a culinary pilgrimage for my wife and myself.

Google
Great atmosphere and wonderfully attentive and helpful staff! Everything we had was beautifully presented with a great balance of flavors and textures. Everything from the perfect tapas portions, the high quality (great tasting) dishes, and the excellent service make this a definite date spot for us. I highly recommend the (fall) seasonal sangria and risotto, but you really can’t go wrong here! I’d go back just for the patatas fritas <3

Yelp
Okay.... WOOOOOWWWWW!!!!!!!! It has been over a year since I have written a review and I swear on everything I love this place forced me to write my first one of the year I am screaming ! I've known of this gem for over about a decade and never got the chance to try it until today and to say the least- I feel beyond blessed to have tried this luxurious food in my lifetime I'm genuinely speechless right now! Could not even leave the restaurant before writing this review ! Tiffany was our lovely server and the hugest kudos to chef Howard and Kevan !! The textures and flavors of everything could not have been more on point and now I have a genuine understanding of how this tiny place on this busy corner of Jacksonville Florida has attained its loyal customers for the past 17 years ! We literally licked each plate clean!! I told them I will be like a stray cat outside in the back from now on

Yelp
I made reservations for me and my friends, five was the max allowed, with 8 PM as the only available time slot for a party this size. We arrived a little early and our table was ready. We sat in front of the The Last Supper portrait. My friends and I felt so comfortable and the music and decor helped set a groovy vibe. We ordered almost everything on the menu. We started off with the tomato and cucumber salad with couscous, citronette, dill whipped feta and pickled red onion. This dish was tasty, healthy and the veggies were fresh. We had the peasant bread, which was soft yet crisp on the crust. Then came the house made chorizo so properly prepared with honey, sauteed pear and warm spiced dates. You must eat the chorizo with a little taste of everything on the plate! The combo is splendid! Then my favorite dish of the night arrived, butter braised cabbage made with brown butter and house kimchi paste. The cabbage was carefully cooked to perfection! The lovely taste was hard to describe because I've never tasted anything like it. This is a must try! Next up were the chicken meatballs topped with candied jalapenos and chili-ginger agrodolce (sweet and sour Italian sauce). So juicy and deliscious! Then we were served Roman style gnocchi made with beef, mushroom stock and utter pecorino (sheep's milk cheese). This cheesy rich dish was surprising. When I saw it I didn't know what to expect. But goodness is what I got! The house made ricotta was light and fluffy like a cloud. Loved this dish! It was made with smoked honey and served with grilled peasant bread. Then I tasted the octopus, which was deliscious! Only three of the five at the table would try it. The other two don't know what they were missing lol! We tasted all three desserts, cheesecake, tres leches and a peasant bread pudding. All were delectable, but the tres leches was the best. The best I've EVER had! Our server Andrew was friendly and helped all of us decide on our drink of choice. He kept our waters full and checked on us regularly. I am already thinking about making another reservation. There were some items I didn't get to try and others I wish to have again and again and again!

Yelp
13 Gypsies is a small, cool tapas and small plates shop located in the Riverside area of Jacksonville, conveniently located next to one of my favorite bike shops, Zen Cog. They have been under my "to-try" list for quite some time now and that moment finally came. TIP: Book ahead and make reservations before you come here or else you will get turned down. Now let's talk about food. Their menu is pretty simple. I came here with a group of 4 and we ordered the following to try. My thoughts... - Spanish Pork Mojo Skewers (2/5): Good flavors, blends well with the dip provided. But it felt like I was eating more pork fat than meat - Cucumber & Tomato Salad (5/5): A well rounded, delicious dish. Makes you wanna lick the plate clean. - Mongolian Beef (5/5): Delicious all around. It was still delicious even if not dipped in the sauce provided - Curry Cauliflower (2/5): Three cauliflower pieces for $14. Thaaaat's it!?!?! Enough said. Nice curry flavor though. - Butter Braised Cabbage (2/5): I don't mind eating cabbage but I wasn't feeling this one. It was meh Rissoto (4/5): It tasted like a risotto version of mac n cheese, and I like mac n cheese Service (5/5): Tiffany was our server and she was very attentive. In summary, I do not mind eating tapas or small plates, but if I am going to pay the tapas/small plates prices, the quality & taste better back it up. That didn't happen for me and my palate. I wish I had a better experience. I wanted to love it but all in all, it was just okay to me.

Yelp
Not your typical Tapas menu, but we loved it and enjoyed everything we had. Very good service, but it is a very small restaurant and things are just a tad rushed. We tried many plates and our waiter did a nice job of coursing them out. Hard to say if we had a favorite, but I would recommend the Roman Gnocchi, Croquettes and it is worth ordering the bread to enjoy all the delicious sauces in many of the dishes. Our waiter even brought us an extra dish to enjoy on the house. Keep in mind that they serve beer and wine only, no mixed cocktails. Come with an open mind, be adventurous and enjoy!

Yelp
Omg the food here is to die for! I finally got a reservation and I regret not going sooner! The service was great and feels personally since there's only 6 tables and hardly anyone new comes in while you're dinning. The room is so cute and decorated with Catholic icons, which we loved! We had the bread, potatoes, Mongolian beef, risotto and squid! I can't wait to go back! 10/10 recommend for a romantic dinner!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite date night spots. It's definitely expensive but it think it's worth it. My husband and I come here about every few months. I love the menu and small space. It feels very intimate. The carrots are our favorite and I enjoy their wine selection as well.

Yelp
Greetings, I've contacted the restaurant several times to discuss bringing my group to this venue. Today, I spoke with Tiffany and was given very different information than I was given previously, to the point that she implied I was a liar. She also said I was mean, rude and did not want my business or the group's business. I will post this in all of my reviews and I thought I should share the information. She would not let me speak to the owners. Thank you, JRippy

Yelp
What a cute little tapas place definitely experience, you have to try out. Not many tables on the inside, but their red sangria is homemade and very tasty. We had several mushroom dishes my fav was the bolognese, the pasta was cooked to perfection so if your in the area this is a must hit spot. Service was great tge waitress knew what she was talking about and had a wonderful attitude and sense of humor .

Yelp
Everything I expected and more. I love 13 Gypsies, the Decor, the service, and the food - all so interesting and top-notch. I dined solo on a Saturday evening and tried so many delicious dishes that were expertly prepared and had amazing service and recommendations to top it off. I will continue to return and although it's nice to share tapas with a companion it's almost better to dine alone and take home leftovers. And the Sangria is delicious!

Yelp
My boyfriend has talked about this restaurant since we started dating and his Mom loves it as well. She was in town so we visited and got there right when they opened at 5. We didn't have any reservations, but they were able to seat us and were very nice. I think they have about 7 or 8 tables in the entire space. The interior decor is perfection and the music was absolutely on point. The service was great and our server answered all of our questions. It is a tapas place so I recommend everyone ordering 2 dishes and then you get more variety. The ambience and service are great. The food for me was good, but some things just weren't for me. We ordered the peasant bread, From the Chamber, Mongolian beef skewers, mojo skewers, gnudi, roasted crimini mushrooms, and 2 of the tomato and cucumber salads. The bread and Mongolian beef skewers were my favorite. I can't remember what it was - Either the dry cured meat or the gnudi, but something tasted really strongly of fennel or something adjacent and overwhelmed my palate a bit. My boyfriend and his Mom both loved the salad. He also loved the Cabernet Sauvignon - I think they normally have a blackberry one on the menu, but it wasn't available that night so hopefully in the future! I want to go back soon for a date night and try a few more things from the menu and update my review. For the price, I would like some more texture on some of the plates and some varied flavors, but I greatly appreciate the simplicity. Once again, the service was amazing and I will definitely go back.

Yelp
Upon arriving in downtown Jacksonville it was obvious Mi Amante was ready for a nice dinner. I had my hopes up to try the well reviewed 13 Gypsies. It was too late for reservations; I'd have to rely on my charm and good looks. Turns out neither of those were going to work. Seems they had a large party coming in and there wouldn't be space for us. I moved onto plan b...begging and pity. Explained that it was our first night in town and we'd take anything including outside if they would reconsider. BINGO! We took a small table outside and were introduced to our server Tiffany. Tiffany was very helpful to a couple of newbies. She told us two people would probably chow down up to 7 plates. Apparently we'll need to up our game; we tapped out after 5. There was nothing ordered that we didn't enjoy. We ordered a bottle of Calazul Albarino, light and refreshing and would be a great palate cleanser in between dishes. Not necessarily the in correct order we feasted on cured meats and peasant bread, mushroom sevilla (OMG this was so good we would've licked the bowl clean if it wasn't our first visit and didn't want to look like heathens), house made chorizo with sauteed pear, pork meatballs, and a "roman" style gnocchi (completely different interpretation than we've ever had but Tiffany told us what to expect...and they were the best pillow like cheesy goodness). We tried to get pictures of everything but that gnocchi was so damn good we forgot. Thank you 13 Gypsies for accommodating us on our first evening. We will definitely return before leaving town and bring friends. More people at the table should mean a larger amount of plates we can try!

Yelp
I had the chance to dine in this place and all I can say is that this place deserves a 5-star rating, the area is small but the ambiance is commendable. The food and the services are great too, we'll definitely comeback.

Yelp
We've dined here countless times over at least 7 years, many for special occasions & referred this place to everyone we knew. We've spent over $400 since December 30th and it was the only place our child wanted to dine. As a former bartender, server, manager and local restaurant owner, I was dumbfounded at our treatment. To support the accuracy of this review, read YELP post by another customer about same server on 1/31/24. WED EVE, 4/24/24, after years of begging friends to make a 100 mile+ round trip, several friends booked using OpenTable, 1 table for 6pm,1 for 6:30. Some needed to arrive/leave @ various times for work & parental obligations(which needn't be explained,I do so for insight). We had the 6:30 reservation, so we promptly arrived @ 6:15. Noting our friends with the 6pm booking looked displeased, we were saddened that "An****, who's the BEST FOH mgr in Jax, WASN'T working. The person instead was dismissive, rude & annoyed-specifically with us-from the moment we entered the establishment. We waited for this person to greet us, which never happened (not a big deal as it was nearly full). Our friends informed us the only empty table next to theirs was ours, so we sat ourselves. That table of friends explained to us they were told 3 rules: 1) they had 1.5 hours to complete their meal, 2) it's "against the rules" to push our tables together, 3) I myself had broken the 3rd rule by not calling to confirm my reservation. Being ignored/not served for at least 10 mins + being spoken of in a derogatory manner was unnerving and obviously deliberate, since we only had 1.5 hours to eat. We were uncertain whether we'd be served at all, having "broken rules". Having proof of confirmation text @7:10pm 4/23, I walked away from the dining area to the corner to address the false info inferred to other table. When I showed the server our confirmation, I was accused of purposefully avoiding their confirmation phone call. My reply was I didn't even know of the call, and as I don't work there I don't know "the rules" she repeatedly said I'd broken. The disgruntled server began a tirade as elaborate as a Hollywood script or pulled from news headlines. This server shouted bizarre theories, started to become emotional when I defended myself, then complained to the back of house when I asked if she was the owner or mgr. One critical tirade about my prior bookings was shouted to the entire restaurant, which could've been falsified considering they did as much thru Opentable by stating we were no shows. So a gaggle of "loud and rude" middle aged women "abused the system" were escorted out by a cook for attempting to meet, greet and eat. The vitriol and contempt displayed towards all 7 of us by staff was unsubstantiated, scary & disturbing. We were yelled at, jeered by several presumptuous people, ridiculed & ejected-all within 25 minutes. It should also be noted we've had 7+people at tables pushed together in the past.

Yelp
This is not a place to eat a dinner but it's a place to have a experience that allows food to add to the evening that you are having with a loved one or with special friends It's a place for exploration of taste with gourmet tapas and bottles of wine. It's a place to share food, moments and make memories. Birthdays and anniversary can be seen nightly at 13Gypsies because it's a place for celebration. I sat with my close friends in honor of their Birthday month for 2 of them. Being foodies we so enjoy pallette fashion and this was a top choice. We ordered plate after plate . Ricotta was our first choice with the tomato and cucumber salad. Mongolian beef came on a skewer with the soy honey sauce on the side and a chicken thigh on a skewer. Pork Crocquetts were House special and a true delight based on top of a lovely lemon aioli that had to be cleaned off the plate as it so good. Had to have 2 orders of the Mushroom Seville with the scrumptious goat cheese bread. Mmmmm And after some wine tastings. Sangria..House made and a bottle of Flavium their wine offering from Spain made perfect pairings with our feast. You can bring your own wine also there is $15 corkage fee.We did both..( no judgment. LOL. My friends can hold their adult beverages lol) The place is intimate and perfect for conversations and even some hand holding. Chef knows his stuff and his vision is clear. 13 Gypsies is different in a Old Spain good way and.. As I left. I looked back at the place now darkened as we stayed till closing and I think..tonight ..it was special.

Yelp
I will start with these wise words from one of the few I highly respect in Yelp world... **Before dining, I recommend looking at the menu online. I also recommend not skimping due to price. The spread here is nothing shy of outstanding. If you are cheap, don't come here.** - Matt C I am also breaking my rule of not reviewing after just one visit. What they serve here is THAT GOOD!! It's probably over a decade ago since I have been this thoroughly satisfied from a meal. I wish I had the eloquence to describe the first bite of each dish but, alas, I don't...so you only get my jibber jabber Cauliflower - sautéed with curry sauce and sweet peas - THE BEST Cauliflower dish I have ever tasted! Butter Braised Cabbage - quarter cabbage braised in brown butter and house kimchi paste - surprise hit of the night **it's got some heat** Roasted Crimini Mushrooms - with garlic, rosemary, saffron aioli and sauteed kale - we didn't order this one but was brought to our table in error. Tiffany (our lovely server) said "don't you love happy accidents?" - happy and TASTY accident indeed!! **complimentary** Those were the standouts for the night, it does not mean the rest were not great, just became the supporting cast :) Pan Roasted Brussel Sprouts - with cabrales sauce and roasted almonds-usual go-to but tremendously overshadowed by the Cauliflower and Cabbage tonight. Chicken Croquetas - shredded chicken, sofrito, bechamel, lemon aioli. Spanish Pork Mojo - served w house cultured cream. Mongolian Beef - served w honey-soy dipping sauce. Grilled Housemade Peasant Bread - served w spanish olive oil, sea salt, black pepper. Tip - Order the Cauliflower and Butter Braised Cabbage plus the Grilled Housemade Peasant Bread - you won't regret it.

Yelp
The waiter helped with any questions we had. He was not on top of his game because he had to ask for us to repeat our order. We ordered Brussel Sprouts, Octopus, Mushrooms, and Gnocchi Pasta. The restaurant is decorated as if we are in an older restaurant.

Yelp
My sister recommended this place years ago to me and we finally had time to stop in. The place had a lovely dark cozy ambiance and was perfect for a cozy dinner. The chorizo with dates and pear were delicious we also did the gnocchi the peasant bread and the kale empanadas and everything was truly just delicious. I'm still dreaming of that chorizo!

Yelp
UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW: I was contacted by one of the servers that works there regarding my review. This person was very polite and I appreciated the time they took to reach out to me. It was pointed out to me that on their website is does reflect reservations recommended. I somehow missed that when I was looking on my phone. I will always admit when I am wrong. This server thought my one star review was too harsh, especially in light that I was wrong. However, my one star was not based on the fact that I couldn't get a table. It was based on the conversation and attitude the man greeting me gave to me. And now that I know the website does indeed state reservations recommended, I am even more curious as to why he didn't say anything. Customer service is everything!! Treating people politely and truthfully is key. I changed my one star for a two star because the server took time and reached out and corrected me, politely, and offered to give me 5 star service if I were able to return. This server is a keeper and is a great spokesperson for 13 Gypsies! I won't say their name because I don't want to get them in trouble. I will try again next time I am in the area and hopefully this person is working. I will be sure to make a reservation.

Yelp
We had a great dinner here and really enjoyed the experience overall. It's intimate, it's cozy, it's casual, it's tapas. I really like the concept centered around peasant food, and I think the menu is well put together. I think we tried a good half of the menu and most of the dishes were great, with a random just-OK here and there. I would say for a vegetarian - it is a great place to go, as a large majority of the menu were meat-free. Things we really enjoyed: house-made peasant bread with in-house ricotta (super fresh), curry cauliflower (delicious sauce), gnudi (perfect), mojo pork and mongolian beef skewers, mushroom sevilla (very rich - but super tasty). The tres leches cake we had for dessert was simply the best I have ever had, and the portion was huge (save room!) Their house sangria is also really good. Things that were just OK: The butter braised cabbage with the kimchi paste was just OK - I think the kimchi paste was a little on the absurdly hot side, and to the point that it just tasted like capsaicin. The brussel sprouts were just OK, too - I liked them, but nothing to rave about. Good ambiance, prompt but casual service, overall just a great meal and something unique for us while visiting Jacksonville. The 5 might be kind of high, but as tourists for the day, we were happy we went there. If I was a local and not going for a special occasion, it might've slipped to a 4.

Yelp
A very small tapas style restaurant in Jax. Get reservations! There are only about 5 tables and most are usually reserved in two hour time blocks. It is a slow meal ordering one or two tapas at a time and talking over drinks with friends. Our favorites are the Mongolian beef skewers and mushrooms with goat cheese.

Yelp
"Tapas is a celebration of life." This quote from Jose Andres Puerta is a true statement of my experience at 13 Gypsies. Even though it was just my party and I upon our arrival this afternoon, the quality of the small dishes (tapas) was delightful and worth sharing - quite similar to life, itself. We ordered the Risotto (selection of the day,) House Made Ricotta with house-bread, the Roman-style Gnocchi (which was my tapas order,) and a bit of gnoci (which I think that is how it was worded on the menu as their miniature bites of gnocchi.) My party and I enjoyed our amazing tapas amongst each other. As well as a glass of Berola for each of us because I heard a glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away.... no? But, it does sound tempting, right? LOL! The waitress/bartender was amazing, attentive, welcoming, and highly knowledgeable of their menu options. One thing about her character that stood out (to me) was the way she greeted and attended to another party (that obviously had reservations) as if there was a restaurant full of guest. Instead of saying, "Just have a seat anywhere!" In which I have experienced the "just have a seat" attitude from waiters or hosts at other restaurants, previously. Overall, I can't believe I've passed by this location numerous of times. I've even worked in a office a few blocks away when I first moved to Jacksonville still haven't visited until a couple of years later - to date. Wish I had more photos to share but, the quality time spent with my friends and favorite designer overpowered my foodie moments. LOL! I just couldn't pass up the "foodie" of how huge their Roman-style Gnocchi are. They remind me of huge Roman columns but not quite as huge in "food-time" (real-time.)

Yelp
Food was good but it's true the portions are very little. Walked out spending over $100. I will definitely love to try it again it's been years that I've had this place on my list to try and dine in. Overall the food was good just think the prices could be a little less reasonable with how tiny the portions are.

Yelp
Cool spot for tapas and drinks in Riverside. The restaurant is small so definitely have a reservation just to be safe. You definitely get the Spanish-tile kitchen and hand-crafted dishes feel when you dine here. I would definitely recommend this place for their eclectic dishes and rotating menu. We got the risotto of the day, garlic shrimp, Vietnamese meatballs, pork meatballs, and pan seared cod. The risotto was a great combination of flavors and texture: soft and creamy with a hint of lime. I understand why this is one of their most popular dishes. The Vietnamese meatballs were also delicious with contrasting spice and sweetness levels. The other tapas we got were also good but the two aforementioned plates were my favorite.

Yelp
I've meant to come here for years and today was finally the day. I've always enjoyed Spanish food and tapas etc. so this was a great opportunity to share something I've enjoyed with my wife. While I can't say it was a home run, I can certainly say it was very good and that's still great. The mushroom appetizer was delicious, with Spanish olive oil and shaved onions and garlic perfuming some fantastic mushrooms. I loved it with the toasted bread. My wife didn't love it, but I sure did. Next we had albondigas and boy were they fantastic! Garlicky, rich and bright tomato sauce with these perfectly cooked little balls of meaty goodness. The shrimp was so well cooked and so flavorful too. Imagine what scampi wants to be, and this is what you wish you'd get elsewhere. So good! The pork mojo skewers were next and boy howdy, were they nice too. Very strong Spanish flavor on the marinade with lots of cumin, which liked a lot. The cream added a nice balance too. The cheesecake was a bit disappointing, but still decent. I mean, it's still cheesecake, how bad can it be, right? Andrew, our server was very attentive and friendly, and he was so busy. He was running around taking care of every table, so it was really impressive that he was able to keep on top of everything so well. The area is fun, which I liked. There's a cool record store just a few doors down which was amazing and I really enjoyed too. A fun night out and good food. What more can you ask for?

Yelp
I love this place. It is tapas, so small plates that the table can share. I have not had anything that was not exceptional here. However, the Tres Leches is absolutely INCREDIBLE. You should make a reservation because it is small and gets busy quickly. The staff are really nice and engaging and have great recommendations.

Yelp
Yum, yum and more yum! Just keep the plates coming :) 13 Gypsies is a quaint little Bistro in Riverside. The chef & owner also runs Foo Dog Curry Traders on the same block (also worth a stop). The restaurant is small - but not crowded. They have a limited number of tables so they can concentrate on each one. From our server to the kitchen staff - everyone made sure we had an enjoyable evening. We shared so many plates that I lost track! My favorites were the garlic shrimp, sherried mushrooms, Spanish mojo pork and The Risotto - I could have made an entire meal of the Risotto!! An evening goes from 4 stars to 5 stars with great company - many thanks to Abbey for sharing her special day with us!

Yelp
Very small place with a limited menu but everything we had was delicious. Both of the mushroom small plates were out of this world the Shrimp with garlic was delicious. I prefer to have a cocktail with dinner and they were out of quite a bit of their wines and sangria when we went but that's OK we went and had dessert and a cocktail after we ate somewhere else. This little place is definitely worth checking out

Yelp
Delicious food and hip and fun atmosphere. We ordered more food but we ate it before we remembered to take pictures. The honey garlic hummus, the Mongolian beef, and patatas fritas (not pictured) were just amazing.

Yelp
Favorite local eclectic tapas influenced by flavors of the world. We enjoyed gamas al ajillo steaming from the kitchen. The toasted peasant bread at the bottom of the dish soaked up the Spanish flavors. The unique combo of homemade spicy chorizo balanced with sautéed date and pear is surprising treat. We always get the risotto of the day and have never been disappointed by a rich creamy perfectly cooked risotto. The cabbage with brown butter and Korean spice is my new favorite dish. Cauliflower with peas and curry sauce is flavorful. Ohh my! They also make a fantastic tre leches cake. Small place that has attentive service. Truly a local gem. Highly suggest reservations since they only have a few tables.

Yelp
Me and the hubs came right at opening, of course, because we read that since it's such a small place, reservations are recommended. We were fine coming so early but people did start coming in after us so I could tell it was a local fave. We love tapas so of course we loved this place. I ordered the empanada of kale cuz... why wouldn't you for $5. That was probably my favorite thing. It was so flippin good and came with this house made dill buttermilk dip (aka homemade ranch) and I wanted to pour it all over my life. There was a cute little anniversary couple that came in so the chef prepared a special tomato and pear gazpacho so (of course) we had to get it. It was delicious and had a hint of red onion. It came with the house made peasant bread which was so good. At the last minute I added the house made chorizo. It comes with a pear (grilled... braised... something) and dates. Omg. This chorizo is smokey and has a spice to it and it paired SO well with the dates and pear. The risotto of the day was mushroom. I'm not a mushroom fan but the hubs loves me so we got it. I tried it, all bites without shrooms, and it was very good. We also got the Brussels sprouts, which I always have to try at a restaurant, but they weren't my favorite. Hubs loved em though and said the blue cheese dressing was amazing. We will definitely be coming back, and that's saying something. The hubs is not the biggest fan of going back somewhere unless is was BOMB. So there ya go.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant! I went there for my first time for a birthday party. They told me they rented out the whole place and to RSVP because the max people was 20. YEAH! The Max they could fit and seat is 20! It's a small restaurant so be sure to plan accordingly on who's eating with you! Or I'm not sure if they take reservations. When we rented out the place apparently it was $40 all you can eat tapas and all you can drink wine. They have a pretty decent selection of tapas from humus to pan seared cod, cauliflower curry, garlic shrimp. Very interesting menu! The plates were small but if you order a lot it will fill you up!!! It actually gives you a chance to try everything on the menu!!!! The waiter was absolutely amazing! He was understanding it was a birthday party and always checked on us! I will honestly recommend this place for small parties! I will definitely bring my family here for my graduation! I love it!!

Yelp
After what seems like a life time I finally made it to 13 Gypsies. Believe me I would have come sooner but you must make a reservation for this place and I don't always plan accordingly. That being said thank you to Susan S for graciously planning a get together here! The inside has an intimate and cozy feel which would be great for couples as well as small groups of friends. They have sangria, wine and beer for anyone craving an adult beverage. The menu consists of tapas, meats, desserts and more. We ordered almost everything on the menu and I must say it was all scrumptious and delectable! My all time favorites were the Risotto (of course), Gnocchi and the Roasted pears. The Tres Leches dessert was so creamy and delicious I could have tipped the plate back and drank the remains. A lovely night with great company and I'd venture to say the best food in Jacksonville.

Yelp
If you in the mood for some great tapas 13 Gypies is the place to go. Now make sure you call for a reservation on the weekends and you can make online reservations for weekdays. Now to the menu I think we order almost the entire menu between four people. The plates are small hence the name tapa so ordering 3 to 4 items per person is the best way to go. They offered a special sweet corn risotto that was out of this world. It was a great combo of sweet, salty and creaminess. And the whipped ricotta with peasant bread is a must try. And I highly recommend the tres leces cake it is the best I have had.

Yelp
This is an experience you can't miss. 13 Gypsies is a hidden gem you need to try as soon as possible. You definitely need reservations as there are only about 5 tables. There isn't a thing we ordered that wasn't the best. Each plate tasted like it was prepared with heart and soul. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Have heard a lot of great things about 13 Gypsies, and they are all true. Last night, four of us shared two bottles of 2014 Spanish wine, Sierra Cantabria, that was excellent along with the following fantastic plates. There wasn't anything that wasn't delicious. Empanada of Kale--get two! Gnudi--tasted to me like gnochi only better. It was my least favorite thing, but I'd still order it again. Sauteed Kale--heavy on the garlic in an appropriate way. Roasted Brussel Sprouts are in my top 5 awful, but 13 Gypsies turned them into grilled goodness. Crispy Potatoes with aioli, cauliflower with curry sauce, and pan seared cod all get honorable mention. The cauliflower gets top pick as it is another food that I do not usually like, but 13 Gypsies made in terrific. For dessert we got the cheesecake with blueberries served in a jelly jar, and the bread pudding. The cheesecake is made with their own house made risotto. Both of these desserts were tasty without being too sweet. If you skip dessert out because it is just a sugar boat, try one of these and experience true flavor.

Yelp
All tapas. Cute restaurant, has interesting style inside. For a minute I felt like I was in NYC. All food tasted fresh and definitely go for the house sangria! Very friendly and attentive staff.

Yelp
Small unique plates that are to die for! The chef's have got their cuisine down pat. Combinations that I would have never tried are outstanding here. I recommend EVERYTHING on the menu

Yelp
The best restaurant I've been to in Jacksonville. The risotto was so good that my boyfriend said "It's so good I wanna cry" Every dish we got, our eyes rolled to the back of our heads because the flavors were so good. We hope to make this a monthly occasion!

Yelp
Overall great food. Our favorite dish was the creamy mushrooms over goat cheese toast! Heaven! The Roman Gnocchi was burnt but still decent. Definitely a fun experience with a great ambiance and knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
Phenomenal from start to finish. 13 Gypsies is a foodie's dream come true. The swanky joint has 20 seats tops, so make your reservation a few days in advance and prepare for a culinary food coma. Upon arrival, we were told the kitchen was backed up (they tried to call me prior, but phone tag deterred our communication), so we grabbed a beer at Bold Bean, and thirty minutes later our table was ready. **Before dining, I recommend looking at the menu online. I also recommend not skimping due to price. The spread here is nothing shy of outstanding. If you are cheap, don't come here.** I'm only going to discuss my favorite dishes. Obviously, these are MUST orders! 1. Risotto - I've heard rumors about the Risotto. Man, I was left speechless. This batch contained Pepperoni and it was incredible. The texture, the flavor, this dish had it all. So much so we ordered a second. Creamy, smooth and luscious. 2. Gnocchi - Prepared Roman style. Unbelievable mushroom sauce. Melt in your mouth tender. 3. Cauliflower - Hands down, best cauliflower I've ever had. Cooked in a rich Curry Sauce. There's no reason for cauliflower to taste this good. 4. Mushroom Sevilla - This will convert any mushroom hater. Incredibly rich and flavorful. The Goat Cheese Toast doesn't hurt either. Oh, and the bread is made fresh daily in house. Not to say the rest of the dishes weren't delicious, but these were the unanimous stand outs for me. I have to say that this was my best meal in Jax yet. Granted, we didn't spare any expense. The attention to detail, the housemade ingredients, and a talented kitchen are the reason for their success. A job well done!

Yelp
Have been on a tapas kick lately and this place definitely delivers! Food, ambience and service are awesome!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I had our Late Valentine date night here last Saturday. I had been looking forward to it all week because I've been dying to try this place ... And don't you just LOVE it when something you've been looking forward to turns out to be as good as you had hoped? Actually, it was better than I had hoped. Every single thing we tried was delicious. When I tried the Vietnamese meatballs, I immediately looked at my boyfriend and said "This is one of those things I'm going to be dreaming about for weeks," lol. The gnudi was glorious, the gambas al ajillo garlicky heaven, and I could probably eat the peasant bread every single day. We finished our meal off with a piece of tres leches cake - some of the best I've had in ages (and coming from a Latina, that's SAYING something!). The kitchen folks are 100% on point, but the front of the house is too. Andrew was very nice and took wonderful care of us. Loved the cozy atmosphere and the fact that it's just a few doors down from our favorite record shop. I've been telling everyone I know about 13 Gypsies since then (Oh, and our cashier at Target when we stopped there on the way home). We can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this location for a while as it caught My I here on yelp. I stopped in after attempting to go to another event and being unable to do that so we came in with no reservation on a Tuesday evening at 7 PM. When I walked in the waiter of which there is only one however he is quite adept, asked if I had a reservation which of course I did not. Only seating that was available was at the counter. I actually don't mind sitting at the counter, in a lot of places when it is the kitchen counter it's fun to interact with the cooks. At this location the counter is just a counter in the bus stand so there isn't really any interaction with the cooks but it wasn't bad. I like the decor, it is simple. There are probably six total tables I think so they really didn't need another server. On the day I was in there it was quite toasty in there I think when they get the kitchen cranking their air-conditioner might get a little challenged. I have to say that the waiter who I did not catch his name however he had longish blonde hair, dealt with everybody with a smile and he was totally efficient. I don't know that much about this place but it seems like there was three guys in the kitchen and they might be the two owners and the assistant cook. The one guy back there kept tasting the food which I know sometimes people might get a little weird about that however I would much rather them make sure the food is good before they send it out to me. Soda is served in a can for two dollars. We sampled quite a few things and I can only comment on the things that I sampled. This would be constructive criticism because I definitely enjoyed the meal and will be back. The white sangria, this had apples and oranges diced up in it. It would probably be better with some grapes also. Perhaps a peach cube or two would be even better. It was acceptable and the flavor was good however it could be more. I tried the sautéed kale and it was very lightly sautéed, it was still quite crunchy it basically was just warmed up a smidge which is good with me. Sautéed garlic in the pan before they threw the kale in and toss in a little salt and you're good to go. Five stars for that one. The pork belly. I have had great pork belly and I have had not so great pork belly. The sauce was good however the process perhaps not quite as good. Pork belly is supposed to be Gelatinous and fatty and gooey and decadent. This was somehow well done pork with a small strip of pork fat. For me personally the trick is slow and low on that pork belly to get it to the right texture. Well done anything is usually not the best option. This is something that I probably won't get again. Thicker cuts often respond better as well they don't dry out so fast. Salami risotto. The texture of this was phenomenal. Five stars for the texture and mouth feel. I can't even fathom how much heavy cream and butter he put in there to make it get to that consistency and I'm sure my arteries are not thanking me but wow, it's amazing. This particular offering however was super salty. I kept wanting to eat more but I couldn't because it was just too salty. I think perhaps because this was mixed with a cured meat which is also notoriously salty, the risotto was salted and then got more salt from the additive. I will definitely try the risotto again because I'm sure this was just an off day. We had a mushroom dish, I can't remember what it was however it was essentially mushrooms in the sauce with four pieces of grilled bread. This one was even saltier than the risotto. Mushrooms were thick and meaty and the sauce was laden with wine and butter. That's a great combination. Just go a little easier on the salt next time OK. I normally salt the hell out of all my food after tasting it because I like my food salty but this particular offering was way over-the-top we could not eat it. Garlic hummus. This was homemade hummus in a small dish with grilled flatbread. The flavor was good, the texture was good, the bread was soft and spongy and warm. I think I liked it better with that sort of bread than actual pita. I would definitely get this again. So all in all I think this was a pretty successful visit. There are three cooks/chefs cooking for six or so tables so that equates to higher prices but individually cooked food. From what I can tell they've got their food cost well under 10% which bodes well for the financial success of the restaurant. Interesting location as well, right there in Riverside but not at five points.

Yelp
Cannot brag enough here - wow!! I was skeptical, very very skeptical. The ambiance is what it is, it's a hipster hole in the wall. But the food is expertly executed and absolutely delicious! I had the pork and beef meatballs which are surrounded by a white wine and mushroom sauce - these meatballs are nothing less than perfect in texture, flavor and portion, and the sauce is paired beautifully. Sooo much flavor packed in a perfect little pot. My SO had a corned beef sandwich (I believe this to be a special so don't get mad at me if it's not available when you go here) which I slyly stole a couple of bites and it was insanely good - perfectly portioned for a nice lunch. Service was attentive and not over baring. If your looking for incredible food in a low key spot - this is your place. I will say if you're going to order a soda - ask for the can. $2 a pop for a can of Diet Coke. I'll be getting tea next time.

Yelp
We've passed this place numerous times with intentions of coming one day, well yesterday was the day! We celebrated Abbey's Bday in true Yelp fashion..... with plate after plate after plate of OMGoodness. We started off with drinks I had the 2 glasses of the House Sangria which was sweet and smooth. Then came the food 1st off was the Garlic Shrimp followed by House-made Gnudi, Spanish pork mojo skewers, house-made fresh chorizo, fish and chips, pork & beef meatballs that was covered with a sauce that was perfect! the Riscotto of the day and for dessert Tres Leches. The place is small and cozy but we filled it with conversation and laughs. Thanks Abbey for having us as your guest to celebrate your special day!

Yelp
Love this place. Can't believe it took us 5 years to try it. Part of its charm is it is so small, and yes, you do need reservations. The problem when you get there is deciding what dishes to order. We have had a variety, and some of our favorites are the kale empanadas (even tho neither of us are fans of kale!), the meatballs, the tortellini, the shrimp, and of course the grilled peasant bread. And the tres leches for dessert! The quality of the food is outstanding. We are also a fan of the sangria! Note- we were here recently after they reopened from the pandemic closings and we felt very safe. Since it is a small space, with just a few tables, the closest party was definitely 6 feet away. The server wore a mask.

Yelp
I have had some of the best food at this amazing restaurant. The concept is simple you follow the gypsy trail as the menu works along those cities. The Chorizo, meatballs, and tapas is some of the best I have ever had. The best dish for us and the one we come back for us the risotto. The risotto is always changing we've had mushroom, bacon & egg, and the goat cheese which were all top notch. It is hard to get it in, but it is WORTH the wait!

Yelp
There's a very talented chef masterminding the plates at 13 Gypsies. Everything we ordered was excellent. My favorite was the Vietnamese meatballs, followed by the roasted cabbage (killer sauce on that!), and the marinated cold Mushrooms--mm, loved the pickled garlic and onions with it (served with a really good homemade baguette). The one disappointment was the crispy risotto (which wasn't terrible, but definitely not the luscious creamy wonder we were expecting...I guess the chef got a wild hair and decided to switch things up by putting a little Korean hot pot sizzle into the risotto but it just didn't work for us--made it dry and bland instead of the creamy revelation that a fine risotto should be. There were so many other things I wanted to try on the menu after tasting how the chef nailed what we had ordered (Curried cauliflower, I'm looking at you!)...gotta get back here!
