Paradis was far from Paradise. At least when it came to the food which sorely lacked originality and any depth of flavor.
The menu is diverse and appealing, ranging from hearty soups and scallop carpaccio to thick veal steaks, rissotto and fish.
Since many of my friends went with the fish, I decided to order two appetizers that appealed to me: a self-proclaimed "perfectly cooked" egg in a creamy leek and ham sauce and a plate of roasted winter vegetables. The egg was way too runny and actually cold on the inside. I should have sent it back but it had taken some time to order and get our food so I just ate around the offending parts. The vegetables were tasty, but not seasoned well enough so a bit flat on flavor. When I asked around the table, everyone felt about the same: the food was fine, but far from stellar.
The space, however, is lovely, very low-lit-romantic-hip with big bay windows that look out on to the street. On a Friday night the place was packed, and full with a very fashionable crowd. Definitely a place where one would go to go to see and be seen, not necessarily where one would go for an inspired meal.
