Yelp
While this Russ and Daughters may be a little bit of a trek to the middle nowhere Brooklyn, there really isn't much of anything else around this location, this Russ and Daughter affords a much better customer experience. The staff are always so friendly and accommodating, the food is the same quality and fresh. The kitchen is seen through the huge windows even though to be honest I've never really seen it in action as most times I've gone on weekends, it's generally empty. Another added benefit here is indoor seating as well as outdoor onsite in the building. My favorites are the Chopped Liver (yes, chopped liver is great and I like Chopped Liver), Latkes and Matzah Ball soup that I always grab to get me back on track when I'm under the weather. Their Matzah Ball soup is a must when you are sick!

Yelp
Back on track. Both the sable and the smoked brook trout were delicious. I am looking forward to my next order.

Yelp
I made a DoorDash order, which took almost 2 hours. Luckily, I had the patience for it. I ordered the classic Bagel & Lox ($18) with gaspe nova, tomatoes, onions, and scallion cream cheese on an everything bagel. The bagel was good, but nothing too special. I have had bigger bagels in NY for the same price with more filling. Overall, pricey breakfast for a lox bagel. It didn't taste any more special than if I made this at home myself.

Yelp
Third stop on Brooklyn food tour We had raspberry Rugelach It's over by the Brooklyn yards The tour guide bought a container of cookies and passed them out to us.

Yelp
Their bagels are obviously so delicious and a New York institution. However, this is the slowest bagel place in all of NYC. The service is terribly slow every time I come here even for the simplest or orders.

Yelp
Took the ferry for the nice skyline views and ended here in Brooklyn. In New York, a bagel doesn't count as a full meal and its a standard to start your day so naturally we went to Russ & Daughters. Price is higher, but seems like they use quality ingredients and spruce up a standard lox with caviar or ikura. One was the Super Heebster with whitefish and baked salmon with horseradish dill cream and wasabi flying fish roe. Definitely elevated, on the saltier side, but I enjoyed it all! Toasting of the bagel so the fried garlic aroma fills the air is top notch. This location has lots of space to order/wait for your order. Came early in the AM, was not busy and staff was friendly to answer questions, and they were kind enough to cut them into pieces for us -- a much cleaner job than we would have done!

Yelp
The place is located in a large food hall and office building. I was pretty pumped to try it since they are so known. When walking in they have windows for their kitchen so you can see how everything is made which is pretty cool. I ordered a everything bagel with pastrami cured salmon, tomato, and scallion cream cheese. The bagel was soft and fresh, not as flavorful as I wanted but still good. For nearly 18 dollars I expect a bigger sandwich. I was pretty disappointed by the portion size. Overall it was a good sandwich but I'd definitely wouldn't waste my time coming back. There is plenty of other options in Brooklyn that are much better and definitely cheaper.

Yelp
Being a member of the tribe, having traditional Jewish food is a must when visiting NY. And there is not a more Jewish food that reflects the grandeur of my people that the humble bagel. Yum!

Yelp
Best bagels and lox ever. The egg salad is also exceptional. Just pricey but worth the jaunt.

Yelp
So my first $20 bagel.... Haha.... But it was worth it. Everything about it was just as it should be. The counter help were very friendly and helpful. Some of the selections on their smoked fish had me drooling.
google avatar

Colette H.

Yelp
Still the best smoked fish in town. You don't come here for the bagels, but the lox is expertly sliced and perfectly smoked. The whitefish salad is the best in town, mostly fish, not overly salty, and barely held together with mayonnaise. Not cheap, but this is the real deal. The Brooklyn location is much less crowded and touristy, and the bakery is fun to see.

Yelp
My better half was in NYC and close to Russ and Daughters so he brought us home two kinds delicious smoked salmon (Irish and Gaspe), some caviar cream cheese, bagels and elderflower Swedish fish. Heaven! The salmon was perfectly sliced transparently thin. And the quality of their products is evident in every bite. If you go here, you will find it hard to go elsewhere for the same. Can't wait to get some more.

Yelp
Very mixed experience with seriously questionable, stressful customer service. After the sudden death of a dear friend, I wanted to bring a platter to a shiva call. I read the website and it seemed I needed to call in order to order catering (and that shiva calls were exempted from the 3 day lead time - I was in fact calling with 5 days' notice, so even though it was the holiday, I assumed it would be fine). I called, and Rebecca, the catering manager fibbed and said I could just order catering online. I spent 20 minutes looking and couldn't for the life of me find where to order catering through the online system. I called back, reached someone else and was told that the ONLY option was to order online because due to covid, they would not be able to provide any catering. I begged, I pleaded. A vague sense of sympathy but decidedly unmoveable. So, I went ahead and placed the order and went out and purchased platters to prepare it further myself. Then, 2 days before the delivery, I received a call from Rebecca, who said my order date would no longer work and I had to call back to rearrange, not leaving a number or extension. Their phone system was changed to remove the option to reach someone for ordering so I spent 15 stressful minutes pressing numbers at random trying to find a way to get through to someone in the store, thanks to Rebecca's careless disregard and lack of effort to make things right. When I finally reached her, she was SO RUDE. Couldn't care less. I explained that I don't have a car and was planning on picking up the food on my way to the shiva call and now would have to take an additional 2 hours to get to the Navy Yard on New Year's Day to pick up the order. She was awful. Wouldn't waive the delivery fee. Then, she entered the date in wrong and set the order up to be delivered on the 31st at a time when I wasn't even home. Again, frantic calls, and finally, got through to someone else, who fixed the delivery and admitted this whole fiasco was exactly that. A total lack of care from start to finish. Guess what? Their fish is great, so that's the only reason this isn't getting a 1 star review. It makes me mad to admit it, but I will because that's what most people care about. Their rugelach was good, not great. I couldn't order bagels since they wouldn't be fresh. But no platters, no extra stuff to have with the fish, and the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have experiences in a very long while. Covid or not, treat me like a human being. They didn't. Rebecca didn't. I hope someone at the location will actually read the review since she made very clear that complaining would do nothing since there was noone else to ask for help. I certainly will never rely on them in the future for any catering.

Yelp
Very underwhelming experience especially since the locations in Manhattan are well known. The portions were tiny. Usually, when I get any sort of LOX/bagel sandwich at a bagel place in NY I can only eat half of it because the portions are huge. At Russ & Daughters, I could finish the whole bagel because they skimp on everything. I've never been to a place where they charge EXTRA for onions, capers, and tomatoes (50 cents each) on a lox bagel... So you're paying $16 for a bagel, cream cheese, and a thin slice of salmon. I know its NY and everything is overpriced but there are plenty of other establishments worth your money. On top of the sad portions, the lady helping my friend and I wasn't very friendly and that just made this mediocre visit even worse. Maybe the Manhattan locations are better (but always with a wait because of tourists), but I don't feel the need to visit them with all the other bagel places in NYC.

Yelp
The lox and whitefish salad here are great, but I'm writing here today to tell you about the babka ice cream sandwich. I would've walked away with just a goat milk cream cheese bagel (yes they have that here!) in hand were it not for a sign proudly advertising their chocolate babka ice cream sandwich. The person behind the counter proclaimed it "better than you expect" and I expected it to be pretty darn good. I'm a fan of all Jewish pastries, from rugelach to sufganiyot, but noshing on a chocolate babka tops the rest. Sandwich some ice cream between two slices of those bad boys and you have yourself a winning combination. They keep these things very, very frozen, so you'll want to tote it around in the summer heat for a little while if you want to avoid chomping down on a frozen brick. Once you get it at a goldilocks temperature though this ice cream sandwich is *chef's kiss*. Think of the ideal french toast bread-- buttery, airy, soft, and with a touch of sweetness-- combined with the smooth creamy cold texture of ice cream. Perfection. This Russ & Daughter's location is inside the food vendor section of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and the pickings are slim inside this "food hall," particularly now during the pandemic when most folks haven't returned to the office and so the few vendors in the building don't have a reason to reopen right now. But now you can take advantage of the lack of crowds, and get yourself an ice cream sandwich and a bagel to go without a long wait. Year round this meal will nourish the soul.

Leslie K.

Yelp
I try to make it a point to get myself over to the cafe every time I'm in New York and when I am not in New York and crave it-I order it through Gold Belly. Everything is fresh and delicious and prepared just as it should be and it is perfection! The servers are friendly and helpful and are very attentive. Although there is almost always a wait--It is worth the wait. I love the sable. I had not had it before but it is very nice. When I go with my family we usually get one of the platters so that we can taste a variety of things.

Yelp
Good but expensive. And slowwwww. So so slow. People trying to get to work don't stop here you'll be late.
google avatar

Lisa R.

Yelp
On our first full day visiting my brother and SIL, they took us to eat brunch here. We had ordered from R&D on Goldbelly but never had eaten it in New York. I ordered the shtetl because it had goat cream cheese and sable on a bialy. What's not to like? I added tomato to the sandwich and got a pint of unsweetened iced tea. Eric R. ordered the daughters' delight, gaspe nova with salmon roe and cream cheese on a poppyseed bagel. He was pretty happy because he had not realized it had ikura on it and he loves salmon roe! We also split a latke which was surprisingly flavorful though not heated up. We were quite pleased with this satisfying meal of brain food!

Yelp
Russ & daughters never disappoints. Fresh off a plane, my bf and I headed straight here for our first meal on our 5 hour layover. Saturday morning around 10am and under a 5 minute wait. This was amazing, we've waited 30 at the other location. Such a great find. The man who helped us was so sweet and thoughtful, truly a breadth of fresh air. We both had the classics bagel (mine gf everything), one with scallion spread and the other caviar. Their fish and spread is exceptional. A must for anyone who is a smoked salmon fan and to avoid the line check out the Brooklyn location next time you're in the area.

Yelp
SO GOOD. You can taste the high quality fish, smoked salmon was amazing. Sliced to the perfect thickness. The bagel was light and so fresh. Would definitely come again!!!

Yelp
Russ & Daughters have some of my favorite classic bagel & lox spreads. They are an institution of the city, and this newly opened location in the Navy Yard is great for those of us in Brooklyn and those of us who prefer not to wait 2 hours for their bagels on the LES. Even though they are pricy (upwards of $15-17), these bagels and lox are the best in town. Juan, the guy at the counter, was very nice and patient while I had my fair share of samples (note it was quite empty when I went). I suggest the Scottish salmon on a toasted sesame bagel with horseradish cream cheese

Leann C.

Yelp
Our first visit to Russ & Daughters and we were at Navy Yard. Loved the fresh bagels and wide array of smoked fish choices, the delicious chopped liver, the many choices of rugelach and babkas, and the service was so pleasant. NYC prices but that's the way it is.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has been off my radar but it's so amazing. The smoked sable, the nova and the bagels are all great. Save room for some babka.
google avatar

Tania L.

Yelp
Very, very disappointed. I had heard so many positive things about Russ & Daughters, and so made it a point to go out of my way and try their bagel and lox. While other customers had generous lox portions, I received a measly one slice of flimsy smoked salmon - and was charged a whopping $13 for this pathetic mess. I ordered a smoked salmon bagel with scallion cream cheese on toasted sesame bagel. The bagel was good - crispy on the outside and thick, doughy, and chewy in the centre. I was looking forward to trying their famous lox, but could barely taste it due to the smidge of a piece that I received. I ended up eating that piece separately; while good, I was very peeved at the amount. Would not recommend going here. Would also not recommend their tofu cream cheeses; they're definitely on the sweeter end and do not taste as authentic as those from Ess-a-Bagel.

Yelp
Discovered the awesome Russ & Daughters of Houston Street has a location in Brooklyn... Only discovered it by chance when mapping the route to Wegman's for my cousin in Forest Hills. Now there are TWO reasons to come to the trendy Brooklyn Navy Yard: Wegman's & Russ & Daughters. All the great appetizers you find at the Houston Street location are here in Brooklyn! You can order in person as a "walk in" but expect a wait**. Here is a top: Order in advance online... your order will be ready and waiting for you with no wait! I was very pleased with everything! Delicious & Fresh!! ** A word about Russ & Daughters: This is NOT a corner deli where you can get a crappy sandwich in 2 minutes. I noticed some of the poor reviews don't realize this. Russ & Daughters is an old school Jewish Style APPETIZING STORE ... NOT (repeat NOT) a corner "deli"; Many customers are here for the expertly wafer thin sliced smoked fish items and schmears and salads. Each needs to be prepared and weighed. Yes! This does take time and there are long waits for walk ins. (The food is worth it, though). Russ & Daughters also doesn't sell the supermarket grade, pre-packaged products found at your corner deli... the items here are freshly cured and prepared by Russ & Daughters. It is worth every penny. That is why I pre-order online. It doesn't cost any more and your order will be waiting for you.

Yelp
Hands down best lox bagel in the city! And I've tried several! Must go here if you want a lox sandwich.
google avatar

Serris L.

Yelp
I've been to Russ and daughters in the city and it was a lot better than this. We did do delivery this time so that could have also affected the quality but the bagels were much smaller than I remembered and they were shy with the cream cheese!! We got the original lox and a regular pumpernickel with cream cheese. It was better after we microwaved it cause the bread was kinda hard. Would definitely recommend going into the city and trying it and also eating it in person. It also took 2 hours to get 2 bagels, not worth.
google avatar

Simon Q.

Yelp
It seems like most people had a bad experience here. Here's mine: My portion was fair. I ordered classic bagel w/ lox and daughters delight(so fuccin good) Price is pretty hefty for two bagels and an orange juice. We paid $45 total. The service and food can justify the price. I enjoyed the bagels. Associates were kind. +1 portion +1 associate +1 decent location +1 tasty -1 price
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered bagels for my daughter's 3rd birthday. They only accept orders through their own website but then use Door Dash to deliver, so when my order was 30 mins late and i called them up to check, they tell you they can't help you and then you're stuck, because you don't have the door dash driver details / phone number since you ordered through R&D's website. Really annoying. Mediocre bagels
google avatar

Danny K.

Yelp
Good service and delicious lox bagels. They have a good variety to choose from. There was a line that moved fairly quick.
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
great service (shoutout to Tijuan!), fully loaded bagels, every cream cheese was absolutely delicious -- including the horseradish! would definitely recommend and would definitely come again!!
google avatar

Evon S.

Yelp
Considering the steep price for a lox bagel, the size was completely underwhelming. For a bagel that's $15, I expect it to be stuffed with fresh ingredients and decently sized but none of these were true at this location. I can't speak to the other locations but take your money elsewhere and go to Ess A Bagel or Brooklyn Bagel Coffee and Company
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
I wanted to love everything but I felt that it was just overpriced. The bagels weren't life changing. I think most NY bagel places are as good it not better. I also think the bagels are better at their original location. My biggest problem is if I am over paying I want to feel like I'm getting something superior. I really wanted to love it but sometimes you can't duplicate a classic.
google avatar

Yelp
Started my day with a very bad cup of coffee... decided this was no way to live and dumped it Instantly decided the only way to turn this day around was with Russ and daughters smoked fish Went with a gravlox style lox bagel Scallion cc Onion Tomatoe Caper situations You just can't go wrong with Russ and daughters, every detail has been paid attention , every ingredient fresh and flavorfull I get it , you say .. it's just a bagel with some lox.. how good could it really be ? You've never had Russ and daughters... Appetizing done right for over a Hundo years

Franky F.

Yelp
Great place to eat but I want to lodge a complaint. After standing on line waiting patiently to be served, I was overlooked on a number of occasions with a few of the guys looking past me on line to take an order from the person behind me. At this point I felt like this was racially motivated as all these guys kept going to the (lighter) person behind. I was about to walk away when I was eventually helped by Michelle who was professionally immaculate in her handling of my situation and complaints. Don't know if I will be back at this establishment in the future.

Yelp
Huge fan of Broad City so my partner and I have been dying to try Russ & Daughters since we saw it on the fifth season. Also recently saw a video they did for Bon Appetit and that sealed the deal. It was kind of pricey but it was a Sunday and the mimosas were flowing (mostly because I was pouring them)! We ordered two bagels, a black & white cookie, and a piece of babka for delivery. I ordered my bagel with caviar cream cheese, pastrami lox, and salmon roe; my fiancé the more traditional tomato, onion, and capers. The first bite was kind of intense.. I realized I went heavy on the fish, but I'm a huge salmon lover! With each subsequent bite I loved it more and more. It was definitely something different and a little extravagant, but nice for a once in awhile kind of thing. The bagel wasn't the best I'd had in my life but I felt like the star of the show was what's inside. The babka and cookie were honestly slightly disappointing because I felt like I've made a better babka myself and I've tasted better b&w cookies from bodegas but I am curious about the babka ice cream sandwich. I think that's the moistness/sweetness it needs to really make it great. I would really call it 3.5/5 stars but will give the benefit of the doubt and consider ordering other items in the future.

Yelp
I'm shocked at the low rating this location has: - Yes Russ & Daughters is Expensive they are selling Lox & an assortment of other fish. This isn't just a bagel store (~$15 can be cheaper depending on what type of fish you get) - I usually go to the Manhattan location on weekends & occasionally come here & had never waited more than 5 mins for service - Benefit of this location is there is no line & you get the same quality food as you would in the city - I always refer friends to Russ & Daughters because your going to get a high quality Lox bagel. Yes it is expensive but please refer me to any other restaurant that provides the same quality of Lox for cheaper - The big difference between this location & the main Manhattan location is - old NY vs the new Developing NY ** If your complaints are that they move slow here or the wait is long then you must of never been to the Manhattan location when it's 50ppl jammed packed inside like sardines.

leslie f.

Yelp
I ordered the "CLASSIC BAGEL & LOX SANDWICH | GASPE NOVA SMOKED SALMON W/ YOUR CHOICE OF CREAM CHEESE AND BAGEL". On an onion bagel. Untoasted with scallion cream cheese. I brought it home to eat. Clearly not nova and not fresh. Dry, chewy and overly salty. The amount of cream cheese wasn't enough to qualify as a schmear- and I'm not one of those that goes overboard with the cream cheese. And the bagel wasn't fresh. All I can say is what a disappointment after not having a bagel with lox for over a year due to the pandemic. I won't be returning.
google avatar

Yelp
You ever watch "Friends"? Are you a fan of Chandler? Good the service here BE any worse? I don't think so. I also didn't enjoy the fish-tasting cookies (they were not supposed to taste like fish, I assure you).
google avatar

Victoria K.

Yelp
Line is long, everyone works pretty slow and you get barely anything for $16 lol. Would I say delicious, sure, but I would never return for the wait and price this joint charges. But it was definitely worth a try! Recommend everyone to go to actual restaurant on Orchard St!
google avatar

Yelp
Do you want a delicious (albeit very small) bagel sandwich? Are you willing to wait about half an hour to even order? Do you hate going into Manhattan? If you answered yes to all three of those questions, then this new Russ & Daughters locations is right for you. Standard deli ticket format - grab a ticket and wait for your number to show. Wait... and wait... and wait. Sure, it was a Saturday afternoon so it was pretty full, but oh man, is this system inefficient. Each ticket gets their own personal server behind the bar taking care of everything they want. It's white-glove (or I guess non-latex food-safe glove) service, but holy crap does it take forever. The one saving grace is that while you wait, you can take a look into their factory next door and watch them create intricate pastries. I believe they've moved all of their production here, so this is where you can get the freshest wares! We went with two of their standard sandwiches - the Pastrami Russ (pastrami cured salmon with sauerkraut/mustard) and the Fancy Delancey (smoked tuna with horseradish dill cream cheese and wasabi roe). At $14 a pop, it ain't cheap (especially considering the size of the bagels), but you can't beat the quality. Worth the wait? Probably not. But it does hit the spot.

Yelp
Not as special as the Manhattan location but lovely nonetheless. Not a big line at 10:30 on a weekday. We got unlucky with the young guy helping us who was slower than molasses. He did let my wife and friends taste many varieties of lox before they settled on what they wanted. Bagels on the small side. The goat cream cheese was more expensive but there was barely any of it. The babka is dry. My wife didn't mind because it was like her mother's.
google avatar

Shu Jin S.

Yelp
Grab a number, order the lox and bagel and enjoy a far less stressful store location experience! The last time I went to their original location in the LES, I was promptly told they do not toast bagels in the summer. So I always felt like I got half the real experience/taste that time around. This time, they toast (YES) and I managed to get a better view of the many cream cheese options, so I got the caviar one (YUM). Love a good lox and bagel sammie, and love a less crowded store ambiance and a cool place to sit and eat nearby.

L S.

Yelp
Foods good but found a bit of egg shell in my matzoh ball and one of the ruggulahs had a small piece of wax paper in it. Seems like there needs to be more quality control. Bagel and lox was amazing.
google avatar

Siyun Z.

Yelp
This is the most expensive bagel you will ever eat...unless you gettin that gold bagel seen on Buzzfeed's Worth It. My boyfriend shared a bagel because we couldn't justify both getting a $15 bagel. He got an onion bagel with dill cream cheese, lox, and red onion. It was tasty but you cam def get a bagel like this at one of the many good bagel joints in the city. Will not be getting lox from here. The bagel itself was only about $1.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
The beauty of this location is the viewing experience you get in the morning when the bagels are made. While the bagels are freshly prepared and the employees are pleasant I was underwhelmed by the bagel. Guess it's time to go to Canarsie for the best bagels! -The egg salad was excellent. -My guest enjoyed the tuna. -Bagels are small but then again maybe they should be. The shame of this location is that they are poorly staffed. -Stopped by during the week and waited 15 minutes to be served. -Stopped in today and waited 45 mins. Egg salad, 2 bagels, and a few taste test later we spent $6. Not to bad!

Yelp
TL;DR Not as good as the original location, but still good. I am excited about Russ & Daughters coming out to the Navy Yard, and it's nice to have a historic New York Legend as an option in this post-industrial part of town, but it's not quite the same as the iconic Houston spot. The menu is much smaller, and the selection of fish smaller as well. Despite having 4 times the real estate to work with, the new location only serves about 1/4 as much. They do have the greatest hits here: gaspe nova, pastrami salmon, Latkas, bakbas, b+w cookies.... but it's still kinda sparse. Luckily, I am a vanilla guy and get the same order every time I go to R&D: a gaspe nova with scallion cream cheese and "the works" (capers, onions, tomatoes) on an untoasted everything bagel. The food itself was pretty great, as tasty as I would expect from the main location, but it appeared to have far less fish. Peruse the pics of orders at the original and you will see each assembled masterpiece is about twice as tall as the orders here. The woman assembling our order was actually weighing out the fish before putting it all together, something I don't recall the seasoned pros doing at the original. My bagel was less than stellar too, with the "everything" dusting on top looking rather sparse. Cinnamon Babka and Rugelahs were fantastic though. Perhaps the absolute best thing about this branch of R&D though is the lack of a line. I've spent over an hour waiting for an order at the original (still worth it) and here, I got in and out in 5 minutes! Worth a shot if you like bagels and lox and are nearby.
google avatar

Anand J.

Yelp
As good as it gets in terms of NY bagels! Literally zero drop off compared to the Manhattan OG location. Gaspe Nova Lox...there is no comparison. Compared store bought lox to these heavenly slices....it's not even a competition. More importantly, very little to no wait with friendly service. In-store experience matched the delivery service...was a lifesaver when I had to bring the goods down to DC and was short on time.

Yelp
I came here since I was in the area for temp work and wanted to try the Russ Daughters hype. I never been to the original location since it is out of the way and I hear super busy. I got the 15$ Lox everything bagel and it was good but definitely not worth 15$. I had lox bagel all over south Brooklyn and compared with so many other bagel spots the bagel and lox here was a bit below par with other places. The everything bagel was good with a lot of seasoning and the flavor of the creme cheese and lox was good. But the bagel was tiny small and the amount of lox they put in the bagel was offensive. Like 3 thin flimsy wet budget toilet paper. What makes matters worst was that the staff was slower than other places in acknowledging the customer and saying hello to the person on line. It was not even busy. I will try the Manhattan location someday but this place is a bust.

Jackie C.

Yelp
These aren't bagels. They're bread in the shape of bagels. So strange that such a supposedly classic spot has really grocery store textured bagels. Ya need a bagel recipe to make this spot what ya wanna be.
