"Organic cafe in Balboa Park Located in the outdoor sculpture garden next to the San Diego Museum of Art is a little cafe that serves fresh food from local growers. You can either order your food from the to-go counter and sit with it in one of the oversize couches nearby or take it to the lawn for a picnic. Or you can sit down at the cafe and have sit-down service. The food is mostly lighter fare: sandwiches, soups, salads, and deserts. But the menu is delicious gourmet style. Tip: This cafe is open daily, but only from 11-3pm"

Yelp
I love the menu that has vegan, gf and vegetarian clearly marked and available. I ordered the Brussels sprouts and a grilled cheese with an ice tea to top it off, this cost me (with tax and tip) about $25.00, Service was solid. I had no less than three staffers come and check on me during the course of my meal. I loved sitting outside and watching the plaza and all of the people watching!! This is in proximity of the sculpture garden. The seating near the sculpture garden are all 4 seater high-top tables, the seating that overlooks the plaza tend to be 4-6 tops, and all lower standard height tables. While I did not have any cocktails... I could see that they had an amazing selction. So bring a DD and have a beve.. they look so good!!! For the food, the winner was the brussels sprouts! Appeared to be air-fried, with small plantains added on top, with a perfect small about of honey butter in the bottom of the serving, so a nice swish and the flavor was easily incorporated. I would sadly, not recommend the Grilled Cheese to a friend. The ratio of cheese to bread was marginal, and the grilled onion, well they could have been more abundant also. If this sandwich had more cheese and more onions, it would be a winner!!! The fries, let me tell you, they were good!! Some of the best fries I have had. I would totally recommend this spot to a friend. And If you are going to the museum of art, remind the cashier, you will get 10% off of your bill... maybe enough for that lovely beverage.

Yelp
Almost all the restaurants in Balboa Park are cafes, but at least there was plenty of shade to be found and a breeze. They had quite a large menu to choose from, plus all sorts of craft beers and fancy cocktails. Smart, efficient service too. You got a menu at the hostess stand, went to the bar and ordered when ready. Food was out quickly, too! A view on either side, nature or the courtyard. My pulled pork sandwich was good to the last bite and the side salad had a dressing I loved. I usually don't like a vinaigrette, but this one was very tasty.

Yelp
I've been here a few times. I like to stop here for lunch when I visit Balboa Park. They only have outdoor seating and there is a beautiful grass area with art. You order before picking a table and they bring you your food. This last time we went, we went with a large party where one person wanted to pay for everyone. They accommodated us by having a server come to our table to take our order so we didn't all have to wait in line to place our individual orders. I was very happy with the service we received. I like their Rosé Sangria, Chicken Banh Mi and Hummus Board. I get the Hummus Board every time. It comes with hummus, falafel, tabbouleh, olives, seasonal veggies, pita, and coconut tzatziki. I tried the meat & cheese board and it was good but not as good as the hummus board. I was not a fan of the meats it came with. I look forward to trying more dishes here!

Yelp
We had a table for 6 had to wait around 10 minutes to find a table. They had heaters and it was pretty cold today. The food was really good unfortunately the Mac and cheese for kids cheese was not very good (flavor and cheese selection wise) but, they were very accommodating! My daughter had to get a grilled cheese sandwich instead the waitress was extremely kind and brought it out FAST! Did not get her name - but, whoever you are thank you for the extra oranges as well. The Bloody Mary was delicious and tasted very spicy (best part of the drink). Plenty of places to sit and area to walk around. The flavors were vibrant and fresh, showcasing quality ingredients in every bite. The staff are quick with customer service once you order and if you ask they will bring out whatever you ask for.

Yelp
Friendly staff, beautiful location, but food quality seems to have diminished. Plenty of tables to sit and may have a line to order, but food is timely. I ordered the burger. Burger was cooked perfectly, but the patty seemed previously frozen. For $19 I would expect fresh ground beef. The pickled onions and pickles added a sophisticated touch, but the Burger still tasted plain and ordinary. The fries were good, but came out warm not hot. The kids menu is competitively priced and I appreciate them offering a menu for children. I wish could have tried the other dishes, but definitely pass on the burger.

Yelp
This was a fun spot to find for lunch. It is an outdoor eater/sculpture garden. Two in one. My kinda place. Line is to order before you sit. They also serve alcohol which you can order with your food or go to a separate line for that. They provide a number and bring the food to you when ready. I had the hummus which came with colorful fun carrots. Something I never seen. The burger was a veggie burger but still pretty good with a side of side. After your done you can sit by the sculptures in the grass and just enjoy the day. It's a small garden but nice still. You can probably eat your meal in the grass if you have a blanket. Pet friendly as well.

Yelp
We've been here a few times and it's a great spot to stop for a drink when visiting Balboa Park! We always order at the bar and then head to the sculpture garden, where the vibe is super calm and zen. Great music! We ordered the peach sangria, which has passionfruit and strawberries--super refreshing! They give you a nice pour too. Love bringing friends here when they're visiting San Diego! The bartenders are always fun too! :)

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant tucked into Balboa Park right next to the museums. The food was good and I loved that they played live music as well.

Yelp
Balboa Park is absolutely beautiful and what a treat to get to enjoy a meal within the park with incredible views of the California Tower. Panama 66 is a special place. This outdoor eating area serves both food and drinking. The ordering set up can be a little confusing, but follow the people and the lines. I have enjoyed great food here including the caesar salad with salmon and the trufle fries! They also have great drinks. You can rent out Panama 66 to host your event. We looked into this as a possible wedding venue and if price wasn't an issue, this would've been a top contender! It's stunning. At the back of the dining area is a grassy field. You'll often see kids running around and the backdrop is incredible. Check the instagram as they often have live music.

Yelp
Panama 66 offers low-key, kick back and chill vibes. It's outdoor so it has a Biergarten type of feel. There's a pool not intended for swimming, but it's relaxing to look at. The food and service is amazing. There are children allowed so be mindful not to get wasted.

Yelp
Counter order and they will bring your food to your table. Food is delivered to the tables pretty quickly. Open seating outdoors so it can be a bit chilly on some days. Their salads are good. Big portions too. The truffle Parmesan fries were a hit as well.

Yelp
Outdoor seating at this place with a great view of Balboa Park. We ordered at the counter some drinks and a burger. Got her food pretty quickly. The Park burger was pretty good. Fries were excellent. I definitely enjoy this outdoor restaurant since the food, drinks and view were excellent.

Yelp
Beautiful outdoor cafe in the heart of Balboa Park with delicious menu items and fun cocktails. It's a must for any visit to SD!

Yelp
Love the patio seating & the location inside Balboa Park. We checked in and then ordered before finding a table. I had the Park Burger and it looked great, just tasted underwhelming. The fries I had were great! My husband had the fish taco special and he said it was good. I'd come back if at Balboa Park, but would try another dish.

Yelp
Okay I walk through Balboa Park frequently but I really didn't know this spot existed and so glad I was introduced to it for lunch. I love that it is outside seating so when it is a nice day you can really enjoy it a bit more, they also had plenty of umbrellas so you weren't getting burned in the sun as easily. It is walk up service so you walk up and order and get a number to put at your table and the food came so fast. We all ordered something different and the menu actually had a wide variety of options, I panic ordered since I was running late to meet people but I have to come back soon to try out some of the other items. And my favorite part, they have a bar you can sit at as well and enjoy some drinks with your meal. I overall am so excited to turn this spot into a go to spot for me since it is pretty close! Can't wait to come back soon!

Yelp
This is a really cool spot in Balboa Park very conveniently located next to the San Diego Museum of Art. I love the open air dining, separate bar area and the fact that they had a lot of heaters that were actually on. Also at the back is the sculpture garden which was unfortunately closed when I went. I liked their format where you order at the counter, are given and number and sit down. All of the service staff were super friendly and our food came out in about 5 minutes. One thing that surprised me a little were the prices. I got a pulled pork sandwich which was $20 and a bowl of soup for $13. But I understand it's a tourist area. This is turning out to be one of my favorite hang out spots in the park and will have to join for the live music Fridays next.

Yelp
This spot was the perfect hangout spot during December Nights. I'm actually glad I got my food here, because lines for all the food vendors were insanely long. I bet people weren't washing their hands either. Food is what I expected it to be, so I can't be mad at it. Barely waited to get in and for the food. The drinks were strong, the beer was delicious, and they had heaters keeping us warm. The singers on the stage directly in front of the restaurant sounded like they been drinking at Panama 66 too. Glad they're enjoying their holiday szn.

Yelp
The wife and I took my mom here on New Years eve for an early dinner and to listen to their live music. - My mom loved her adobo chicken - My wife loved her medium-rare hamburger (which from my one bite, I can attest was cooked to perfection) - I enjoyed my jerk shrimp bowl, though I personally I think it could've used more jerk sauce on it as it wasn't spicy at all. We also got two apps to share as sides between the three of us. Both appetizers were of a hearty size: - The honey brussel sprouts appetizer was delicious and by far the favorite - The root vegetable dish was fine but pretty banal in my book (I've definitely had better before). As for the music, Erika Davies was singing and was accompanied by her keyboardist. It was listed as Jazz, and though some of the songs had jazz elements I personally didn't considered her playlist as jazz. Nonetheless, we *thoroughly* enjoyed the musiic: we thought Erika had a fantastic voice, and her keyboardist did a really great job. My personal favorite was her soulful cover of Black Hole Sun. The music mixed perfectly with a picturesque outdoor environment to provide a gratifying atmosphere (and the heatlamps paired with appropriate dress kept us warm on the decently chilly SoCal evening). I wouldn't hesitate to again make a 30 minute drive to Panama 66 for dinner on a night that they have live music.

Yelp
This place has stepped up their game and was better than prior visits. The Chicken Banh Mi sandwich was surprisingly moist and flavorful but the accompanying French fries were nothing special. Ordering was quick and easy and the staff attentive about refilling glasses and quickly cleaning tables to keep the lines moving. Nice outdoor environment in which to enjoy a meal in beautiful Balboa Park.

Yelp
I have not been to Panama 66 in years, as I remember not having had the best experience there shortly after it opened. On New Year's Day, my friend and I did a walk around the park with our dogs and wanted to get some lunch outdoors. Panama 66 seems to be the perfect place for that... and they were open on New Year's Day. Anyway, we arrived just before 11:30, and there wasn't a line. As we walked up with our dogs, a staff member quickly took us to a sign that had the "Dog Rules". Honestly, none of the rules were unreasonable, and the staff member was very nice, but the long list was a bit much. However, we decided to go ahead and go in with our dogs regardless. This is a place where you wait in line to pay at the counter and you get a number. The place is really quite lovely, as it is an informal courtyard at the side of the art museum. If you have kids, you can sit toward the back, and there is a grassy area near the sculpture garden there kids can walk around. Anyway, we ordered and sat down. I chose the roasted vegetable salad (Goddess Salad) and added shrimp. I also ordered a soft drink. I grabbed my drink, and the food was brought to our table quickly enough. There is an area to serve yourself water. The salad had a good flavor, as I liked the Goddess dressing. Also, the shrimp was very tasty, but there were only three average sized shrimp. It was only $7 to add the shrimp, but at least five would have been more reasonable. Three is almost a joke. The salad itself was ok. I liked having some of the roasted beets and fennel, but it was mostly spring mix, and, therefore, wasn't too exciting. Despite the long list of dog rules, we had no issues with the dogs. They enjoyed their time there. I noticed a long line coming in after we were seated for a while. I think that the counter ordering system is reasonable for an informal place, but it would make going up to order another drink or a dessert nearly impossible, once you are already seated. All in all, I really like the setting, but the food is not great.

Yelp
TL;DR - Drinks and ambiance, yes. Food, meh (with exceptions). Service, yes. Came in on a Wednesday evening. Not too busy. Got checked-in about 15 mins after we joined the line. Note: There are (2) lines, one for food, one for bar. But you can order your drinks in the food line. Self seating Drinks: Paloma, Negroni. Both were pretty tasty. No complaints. The food: Chicken BanMi - Friend said 3.5/5 Very bare bones Tofu BanMi - 3.7/5 I appreciate that the bread was nice, if not, this would've been a dry @$& experience. Burger - Friend said 4.8/5 He said the burger was done well, although I am not sure if this was his attempt to balance us out Jerk Shrimp -4/5 Shrimp was good. Yes, very 'wet' bowl. Presentation could've been a lot better. It felt like a soup honestly, and I don't know how I feel about that. Cookies - Meh I tried the vanilla w/lime sugar - not a fan 2/5, it was less sweet, so I would be willing to bump that to 3/5 if that's your preference. Friend had the last chocolate one available - 4/5 I would encourage a visit. The art garden and live music are a vibe.

Yelp
Panama operates outdoors and has indoor bathrooms adjacent to it. I like that their menu has healthy dishes and it's frequently changing. There are many option for drinks and it's self seating. The staff could be friendlier. I like that there is a band playing at all times which creates a unique and fun atmosphere. There is also a grassy area behind the stage for kids, pets, and to lounge.

Yelp
Attached to the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park, Panama 66 is a surprisingly decent counter-service restaurant with a beautiful outdoor setting next to the art museum's sculpture garden. To eat, we started with the Hummus Board, a round wooden board that came with a grainy hummus, three dry falafel fritters, pita slices, cucumbers, yellow/orange/purple carrots, green/black olives, tabbouleh, and a vegan coconut tzatziki. We also had the Roasted Brussels & Burrata Salad, a mixture of greens topped with Di Stefano Burrata, roasted Brussels sprouts, tomato and orange wedges, and pepitas, along with a creamy roasted garlic dressing. While nothing particularly unusual, the dishes here were fresh and tasty, artfully plated, and came at a surprisingly good value, given the restaurant's prime location.

Yelp
After visiting the Natural History Museum today l, we decided that we were all a little hungry. We wandered around and ended up at Panama 66, I am so glad we did. It's an open air restaurant that you get the menus and seat yourself then go up and order once you have decided. There are plenty of seats and also a lot of shade so it's perfect on a a nice day to sit outside enjoying the fresh air and people watch. Their menu has lots of different options including vegan and gluten free. We decided to get the chicken banh mi, adobo chicken entree and, the kids grilled cheese. Also threw in an order of truffle parm fries. The food came out relatively fast, which was nice because you could get back to the museums or exploring Balboba Park faster. The Chicken Banh Mi was grilled chicken breast with pickled onions and carrots cilantro and jalapeño on a toasted baguette served with a mixed green salad. (You can get fried instead but a salad sounded good) the chicken was moist and well flavored and went well with different things on the sandwich. The baguette held up nicely and was crunchy. It was a very filling sandwich but it didn't weigh you down at all. The salad was lightly tossed with balsamic dressing and went really well with the sandwich. The Adobo Chicken was well cooked and the veggies were perfectly done. The apples added a nice surprise touch. The truffle fries were hot cheesy and crispy. Very addicting little buggers. The seven year old devoured his grilled cheese and fruit so that was a win for us. Over all it was a great place to take a break from the museums and exploring. Its location is perfect and the added bonus of people watching was fun. Next time we come to the park and need food this will be top of the list. It's nice and casual and the service fast and friendly.

Yelp
You're supposed to order at the counter and wait at a table with your number. The food arrived quickly. I ordered the Park Burger with fries, and it was very decent, not exceptional but not unsatisfactory. The seating is outdoors, and so I chose a table near some art. The downside of eating outdoors was that it was a bit chilly, so my food got cold quickly.

Yelp
Great service. Friendly. Tasty drinks. Delicious food. So on and so forth. So on and so forth.

Yelp
I absolutely loved the idea of ordering food (and drinks?) while hanging out at the grass area in the back of the restaurant. If you want to enjoy a beverage while laying on the grass, this is the perfect spot for you. It is also very kid friendly. Yakisoba noodles were so good and so was Cesar salad.

Yelp
I was bringing 20 high school students to The Old Globe for a tour and needed to go somewhere for lunch. It had to be easy to get to, have a variety of food, and close, and I chose Panama. I had been before, especially for the live jazz on Friday evenings with the Young Lions Jazz Conservatory. I did speak to Haley(?) on Sunday night to just let the kitchen know I'm bringing a group of students. On Tuesday, around 12:30, I brought them in and the staff was great! The food came out smoothly and everyone was fed! My students rarely come to places like this, and it was nice way to start closing out our school year. They were advance drama students who just worked on a production. Another great way to thank them for all their hard work! Loved the burger! Nice crispy fries! Three students had the mac n cheese and finished it all! One was bougie and ordered a blackened salmon Me: I said a sandwich! She: All I heard you say was fries or salad! The staff again was very accommodating and courteous! Checked with me about the students. This is a great place to come for lunch or dinner, if you need to eat and don't want to be fancy.

Yelp
Truthfully, I think this place is very good for being located in a park. But objectively as a dining establishment, it's only alright. During my first visit, I had the grilled cheese and soup combo (which was butternut squash) and it was hearty, warm, and standard. Nothing wowing but I was not expecting to be wowed. The second, more recent visit, we stopped in for a quick snack. Ordered the roasted brussels sprouts and aloo chaat. The sprouts were beautifully roasted and had a good amount of sweet honey. I'm a sucker for brussels sprouts and this was a fantastic snack in between our museum visiting. The aloo chat was crispy and with the mango chutney, it was great. However, there wasn't a lot of the mango chutney so most bites were just crispy potato paired with very crunchy chickpeas. Some parts of the potato skins were burnt and unpleasant. It's relatively quick, service is nice, and it's open seating. So the vibes are generally quite casual. Overall, overpriced for what they offer, especially considering the occasional long waits. However, this is located in a very central spot in Balboa Park so that is a real factor to their prices too.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Wow what a hidden gem. A great cool place with awesome vibes. Grab a seat nestled in wonderful Balboa Park and get ready for a great relaxing time. The food menu is very unique and offers a variety of choices guaranteed to make your test buds sing. Oh and the choice of adult beverages is definitely something to mention. I highly recommend the truffle fries, so so so delicious. I highly recommend giving this place a try and I promise you'll be adding this place to one of your "go to" spots.

Yelp
It was a beautiful Indian summer fall day, and there was a long line to wait for a seat and order, but it was enjoyable to stand in line outdoors with a friend and not be rushed for time. We probably waited 15 minutes to order and they were plenty of tables to choose from, and they brought our food within 10 minutes. It was beautifully prepared and and fresh and great quality and quantity at a reasonable price for the freshness and quality of the food. It is always presented in a thoughtful manner and very beautiful. My special tofu spring rolls were an art masterpiece in themselves. And the peanut sauce that came with them for dipping was out of this world delicious. They were an appetizer for $14 but they were plenty for a substantial lunch that was crunchy and fresh and white but filling. My friend had the house hamburger that was on a fresh, soft, tasty bun, licious, melted cheese and bountiful, herb and spice french fries. You can't beat the view of the sculpture garden on the California tower and the ambience inside balboa park and the sound of the bells that chime every 15 minutes. This is one of our favorite places to come because we can enjoy an incredible stroll through Balboa Park, and the art galleries, and the sculpture gardens are in the museums and the zoo in Spanish village art studios and end the day, and they ride on the carousel and the train. What a fun day.

Yelp
We always love to go to Panama 66 whenever ppl are visiting from out of town. In the heart of balboa park, you can easily miss this unique spot, and even many locals don't know about it. We like to go in for drinks- skip the restaurant/food line and order at the bar. We bring a blanket and enjoy the cocktails on the lawn. Fenced in area allows the kids to run around and play on the grass - keep off the statues and out of the hedges, though! You're surrounded by modern art as the location shares space with the art museum (you even use the museum bathroom). Bartenders are fast and although we have eaten here before we typically just go for drinks. If you want to eat, you have to eat at the tables since you cannot bring the food out onto the lawn. That's the only thing that could make this place better. They also often have live music which is a great vibe as well.

Malik R.

Yelp
Worst experience with the guy in the front taking orders he was super rude and kept talking to me like I was stupid didn't even want to eat here very bad customer service I used to work in restaurants and food spots and this is no way to talk to potential customers he should be fired and not talking to the public with that type of attitude and arrogance
google avatar

Yelp
Overall, this place is pretty great for a museum restaurant! There was about a 15-minute wait for food (you order and pay first, then they bring your food to your table), which was expected for an outdoor restaurant on a beautiful day. The staff was very friendly. We ordered the aloo chaat as an appetizer and I ordered the goddess salad with chicken as my entree. I thought the aloo chaat was so, so good. Those crunchy chickpeas... yum! It had me wishing they had more Indian food on the menu. The veggies in my goddess salad were a good mix but could have been better quality. I was expecting just a few slices of chicken with my salad but they actually give you what looked like a chicken breast on the side, and it was good! The restaurant is in a courtyard next to the SD Museum of Art and its sculpture garden, so the ambience is pret-ty nice.

Yelp
Such a nice area. The soup was an 8/10. Bread, not my favorite, but good for dipping. Atmosphere 10/10. Great experience. Also, everyone here was super nice.

Yelp
Can only speak to the weekly jazz night experience on Wednesday nights. We got there around 7 and it wasn't too busy but was packed by around 7:30. They have the jazz night indoors now versus outside but you order your drinks and food outside before sitting down inside. The ambiance inside could use some work. It feels more like an empty industrial space that they put a bunch of chairs and tables in with a performance space in the front. We only got drinks, a beer and a cocktail. They also had wine options. Pretty standard options. I liked that a lot of the beer choices were local. If you're coming for jazz the first hour is for younger kids to perform/practice. The professionals come out at 8 and they were AWESOME. They play songs for an hour or so and then invite some friends up to jam with them.

Yelp
I can't believe I'm never eaten here before. Highly recommend this place for lunch or drinks if you're visiting Balboa Park! Ambiance gives a very European feel, with abstract art at the back of the seating area. This is order to counter style restaurant. To follow, you sit yourself anywhere you find seating. I really loved aesthetic, this is an outdoor seating area, by the way. It felt very casual and inviting. I ordered the pull pork sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich was flavorful and juicy. The fries were perfectly soft on the inside and my golden crunch on the outside. My cousin ordered the mahi-mahi sandwich, which he licked his plate clean! Overall, I was very impressed with a food and my overall experience. I will definitely be back next time at Balboa Park! (Sorry we were so hungry I didn't get the chance to take photos of the food. You'll just have to take my word for it and experience for yourselves!)

Yelp
I've come here a few times to check out their live jazz performances on Wednesday evenings. I'd have to say, they sure put on a show. If I'm ever free on a Wednesday night, I come here. Everyone is so chill and nice and it's such a good ambiance. Recently, I had the opportunity to try the food here. I got the truffle fries. My goodness, are they good. They are also reasonably priced. I also got a ginger beer which was pretty good too. Next time I stop by here, I'll definitely get their fries again. I'll see you at Panama 66!

Jannie S.

Yelp
Food sucked. Meat and cheese board was underwhelming, it came with old looking grapes. Food here tasted like cafeteria food. Service could be better. Water and wine, ok.
google avatar

Lee O.

Yelp
The ambience is totally worth it to come for a chill night with the family. It's a open seating and there's two lines - just like everybody says when you go in - one is just for drinks and the other ones for food. However, if you sit at the bar, food and full service is there. Enjoyed the live band and I love that it's outdoors so this is gonna be perfect for a good San Diego day which is most days! Field in the back is friendly for dogs and kids. Food was pretty generic nothing major that stands out. We got the brussels sprouts which were cooked. Well not too crispy and not too soft with adash of honey. The Jamaican jerk shrimp had a lot more of a bean base which is not what I was expecting for Jamaican jerk but Overall, it was pretty good. I probably would lean more towards the drinks as they have a good beer, menu, rotating beers and drinks. definitely cute date spot or even the family evening stroll through Balboa Park. Lots of families here on the weekend.

Yelp
Besides the great park location and ambiance, the cocktails and lunches were equally excellent! Despite the counter service ordering, staff were very friendly and helpful. Daily special fish tacos were phenomenal.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere with the sculpture garden and Balboa park as the background. The food was good, and the guys behind the bar were very attentive.

Yelp
I've been to Panama a number of times, great place to get a drink and usually the food is great. I had brussels sprouts last evening and they were flavorless. Hopefully whoever is doing their social media sees this and has a conversation with the chef. There are so many ways to cook delicious brussel sprouts these days, there shouldn't be any reason for them to be flavorless.

Yelp
Awesome outdoor vibe with yummy cocktails and drinks. Taylor is the best! This is a great outdoor bar and restaurants right in the center of Balboa park. It is usually pretty popular. The food can be ordered in a line next to the entrance and the drinks is ordered at the bar. They have delicious cocktails, a good tap list, and solid American style food. The best part is the beautiful outdoor seating next to a small pool and outdoor garden with sculptures. Join them also for salsa nights!

Yelp
Check out this spot yesterday with a friend. I loved the idea of Balboa Park having a casual little spot drinks and food. It was a Sunday so we definitely knew it would be a little busy, but not crazy. We stood in line for about 10 minutes, and a girl handed us a menu to look at while we waited. Once we finally got to the front of the line, there was another woman controlling the flow of the line. She didn't acknowledge us at all until she was ready to let us in (5 minutes). It would have been nice to at least receive a "Hello, I'll be right with you..." LOL. We proceed to the ordering area, and the woman taking orders was nice, but not super friendly. We ordered two cocktails and an appetizer. They're ordering system was a little bit all over the place. The woman handed us a number for our food and instructed us to go pick up our drinks around the corner of the bar. There's a line to order drinks from the bar and it can be a little confusing as to whether you're supposed to get in line to pick up your drinks or if it's strictly for ordering another round. The signage above didn't quite designate pre-ordered drinks at the pick up area. After waiting in line for a few minutes I just walked up to see if they're ready, and fortunately they were. The wait on the fries took awhile for being one app, but it seemed fairly busy so it was understandable. We got the Curry fries and they weren't quite what we were expecting. The curry wasn't very flavorful, and the cilantro on top wasn't quite a garnish but an actual bundle on top of the fries. Very weird and not very tasty... so sad! Our drinks were ok. I ordered the Bear's Knees (bourbon based). The flavors seemed interesting in the description, but when I tried it weren't the best combination. The presentation was nice though. My friends drink was quite sour (we don't think that was the intention). The presentation of the entrée plates looked nice, but hesitant to try them after our experience. Overall the service wasn't great but not terrible. The food and drink was ok.

Yelp
Located in the middle of Balboa Park, this is a great stop while enjoying a day at the park. It's outside, so when the weather is nice, it's perfect to sit outside, enjoy your lunch, and enjoy the weather. It's also dog-friendly, so it's a great place to eat when you're out on a walk with your pup! It's set up so you order and pay when you first walk in, and then they bring the food to your table. For a restaurant smack dab in the middle of a park (albeit a very large and involved park), the food was surprisingly good! They have a great grilled cheese that's extra cheesy complete with grilled onions inside. Get it with the tomato soup for a great lunch! We also really liked the steak frites - it's only option is to have it served medium, so if you like your meat served any other way, it might not be the best option for you. They also have a full bar here if you're looking for drinks with your meal. Overall, wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but a good stop while enjoying Balboa Park.

Yelp
I've been back several times with friends and family - consistently tasty food, I love their curry fries, Bahn Mi, burgers, did I mention the curry fries?! Also the ambiance is so nice, kids and pets welcome, usually some live music, and very very good customer service. We had a small issue with our food and the server replaced it immediately and refunded us. Thank youuuuu I'll be back!

Yelp
They put the sangria in a small glass I said light ice because it would have been watered down he forgot I reminded him so he proceeds to take out the ice which left 1/4 only of sangria a few sips it was gone. Seriously 14.00 it was the worst! The description sound tasty but it tasted like fruit punch. Havana Grill - Cafe 21- cafe Sevilla know how to make sangrias this place does not. There's no service after they drop off your food you help yourself to water.

Yelp
Nice visit here. Sunday at 5 is not too hectic - we didn't wait that long for a table or food. The longest wait was actually for a cocktail - they don't bring to your table so you have to stand. Not a huge deal - about 10 mins. But I would have just gotten wine. They were out of what I wanted (the salmon sandwich), but I got the kale salad with salmon and it was still very tasty. This is of course a beautiful sculpture garden and a fabulous place to take out of towners. It would be nice if you could reserve but luckily Sunday was busy - but not so busy that you couldn't get a table after waiting in line for 10-ish minutes. I got their version of a Mai Tai (Mai Favorite Camper). It had campari and lime rather than orange and pineapple, which I appreciate. It was still a little sweeter than I expected - not quite as good as the orgeat cocktail I got at Nine Ten, but still refreshing. I'd try something else next time. Definitely a great place to visit when it's not super busy!
