I've had to sit on this review and really think about our experience for a while. And I really struggled with how many stars to afford this review.
My husband and I ate here last year and had one of the single best meals we've ever had at this restaurant (I left a detailed review of our wonderful experience on the Facebook page). I wish I could say the same about our more recent experience...
I'm not sure what happened, but this feels like a restaurant facing an identity crisis. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad. It's just that, on our previous experience, we found the food to be abundant and exciting. Now, I find it to be pricy and pretentious. I get it, right, it's trying to fit in with every other high end restaurant out there, with its smaller plates and interesting flavors (they weren't), but when I'm asked to pay nearly $30 for what amounts to a half of a chicken breast (including an inedible piece of bone) and 6 gnocchi, plus $9 extra dollars if I wanted an additional "side" (I opted out), I struggle with that. To be fair, my husband's pork chop was a much larger portion, but aside from a pan jus, a few overly salted apple slices and some greens, there was nothing else on the plate to break the meal up. Again, it wasn't bad-- my chicken was a bit dry, but the gravy and gnocchi were delicious. The pork chop was tender, but not exciting in anyway...I feel like I could get that food in any city in the country, and for less than what we paid. There was nothing inspired about it, and it felt very much like they were trying so hard to be "fancy", that they failed in being in any way special, unique or exciting. The soul is gone.
I will say, the drinks were strong and good (although I wished they'd had more than one option on the specialty drink menu that wasn't whiskey or gin based. But that's just me). The service was as expected, and the view was gorgeous. We were also pleasantly surprised by our comped desserts (it was our anniversary), although the dessert portions were as large as my dinner entree was small.
Will we eat here again? I'm honestly not sure.
