Beautiful Inn and Resturant. Mary at the front desk is so gracious and kind. Holding the door open welcoming us and saying goodbye. Mary is wonderful. Dined at the resturant for lunch. Ordered Espresso Martini (not a very strong espresso) it was okay, the strawberry Gillette was delicate, the show stopper on the drinks El.Diablo - highly recommend. See photos Watermelon Salad-Wow! Our taste buds were dancing. Highly recommend! The poached shrimp auguachile fell short, The lobster roll delicious! Set back not much lobster see photo. I would ask for extra lobster or charge a little more and add more lobster. Will he back again and continue to taste.more of the menu. Beautiful view from the table.

Nice restaurant with a great view and plenty of space both indoors and out. Drinks were good & the Roanoke Burger was delicious and cooked exactly to the temperature asked. The fries / potato wedges were dusted in old bay and came out piping hot!

Hidden gem in Manteo, NC! Service was excellent, chef was accommodating to requests, Willy our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable! And the food and cocktails were absolutely delicious! Reservations recommended.

The view is great! We loved it. All the sides were also great, but the salads didn’t come out before- they came out with our meal. The food took a while to come out. We all ordered pepper encrusted steaks, but none of them were. Additionally- one of our steaks was supposed to be cooked medium rare, but came out well done. We sent it back and the new one came out totally rare. Ultimately- she didn’t even eat the steak and there weren’t any apologies for the issues. Definitely a little disappointing and not the service we would expect for the price point.

My girlfriend surprised me with a Birthday dinner at the 1587 Lounge, and we had a fantastic time! Everything was top-notch! The cocktail list was both unique and extensive, providing classics with a twist (like the Old Fashioned) and creative creations (like the Blueberry-Limoncello Sour). The food was even better than the drinks, and the desserts were the same. Our waitress was amazing, and in addition to the great service, we ordered almost exclusively from her recommendations and weren't led astray! Hidden gem is an understatement!

Google
Food was great, and service was very good. The setting is very nice, but the dining room is loud. Linens and some sound dampening would go a long way to making it an all around great fine dining experience. (I revised this up to 5 stars just thinking about how difficult it is to thread so many needles, and the noise wasn't terrible.).

Google
I had an absolute incredible experience sitting at the bar at 1587! Caleb, the bartender makes a phenomenal drink, and every one of the staff was so kind. I had the espresso martini (made with ingredients from a local coffee shop) and some sides as a light meal. The food was fantastic. The atmosphere of the restaurant is so peaceful and nice, I would love to come for a date-night sit down meal!!

We stopped in for lunch. We were seated at a table with a beautiful view. 3 of our 5 have celiac and needed to eat gluten free. We felt confident their staff would be careful with their food. Not only was it safe for them to eat, it was delicious. Our favorite meal of our OBX trip! Delicious!

Yelp
The vibe is awesome. Right on the water, really nice. Our server was nice and attentive so was the guy that delivered the food. We started with the crab cake appetizer, three medium sized crab cakes with green apple and white onion on top and some kind of sauce. Delicious. Well prepared and very tasty. Nice crust on the cakes and great crab taste. My wife ordered the surf and turn bbq pork chop perfectly cooked and delicious. With a bbq sauce drizzle very nice and good sized. The Brussels sprouts were cooked well and very tasty balance to the sweet bbq. The shrimp was the only thing that could have been better and it wasn't because of the cook. They were cooked perfectly they were just sweet. Not a bad thing but to us didn't mix well with the bbq sauce drizzle very well. I ordered the ribeye perfectly medium rare over a bed of risotto with mushrooms and Demi sauce. Wow wow wow ate every bite they purposely didn't salt the risotto so the salt on the steak stood out. And it did it was a well executed plate We will return.

Yelp
since chiefs fans are petty losers and leaving fake negative reviews on CJ Gardner Johnson's mom's restaurant in Florida, I just wanna say this restaurant is EXCELLENT!!! And the owners caught an EXCELLENT WHOOPING!! God bless your hearts, Missour! GO BIRDS!!!

Yelp
The service was very nice. We showed up an hour before our reservation hoping to get in because we were already hungry and what we had planned didn't take us as long. They seated us immediately and the server was excellent. We had the crab cakes which were the best seasoned crab cakes ever!! So good. I had the pork chops and my husband had the steak. Both exceptional. We are every bite so no room for dessert. (I only took a picture if the crab cakes)

Yelp
Arrive on time for our reservation. Seated immediately, we ordered a cocktail when seated. It took 25 mins to get. They kept wanting to take our order before our cocktails showed up. A couple different waitresses were waiting on us. Our food was delicious. We will be going back. Hopefully won't have to wait as long for a cocktail which was divert tasty.

Yelp
Great food, we took a chance booking day of and we were able to get a reservation at the lounge section which was perfect, but the food was the star, everything was so tasty. Staff was amazing and everyone worked as a team which is always a plus.

Yelp
We stopped into 1587 Restaurant for dinner on our first night in OBX. They were super busy at the bar and in the restaurant, so I would highly recommend reservations! We didn't have a reservation so we sat comfortably at the bar. We ordered the special margarita and a dirty martini. Both were tasty... My husband ordered the tomato soup, which he said was amazing!! We each ordered the fresh catch for our dinner. This was with Ahi Tuna steak served rare, with broccolini and rice. This was soooooo good. I would definitely order it again! For dessert we ordered an affogato which was delicious and refreshing. The perfect end to our meal. My only complaint was the bartender ignored me on a couple of occasions when I tried to speak to her. She seemed a bit overwhelmed, which I understand, but she acknowledged my husband and other patrons sitting at the bar. I was a little miffed, but that is okay. Our experience was great overall so we will be back!

Yelp
Food and service were terrific. Dishes were creative yet not strange. Food was delivered at a nice pace with adequate portions.

Yelp
Nice dining room, though a bit loud, with great views of the marina. Server staff is awesome. Had a very nice peach salad with goat cheese, pickled onions and pistachios as well as an excellent herb dressing. Dessert was an interesting riff on key lime pie. Only downside is they do not offer any vegetarian entrées.

Yelp
The concierge at our Inn on Manteo recommended 1587 for our anniversary dinner, and we're glad she did. The experience was five-star in every way. The ambiance is understated elegance fitting for a beach setting. We had a lovely table with a water view. The menu is seafood focused, again as you would expect from this location. The drinks menu is eclectic, with something for everyone. My cocktail was well crafted and very tasty. The food was prepared well, from fresh ingredients. Our server (wish I could remember his name) was only three days on the job, but we never would have been able to tell, which speaks well of his training. The service was friendly and efficient without hovering. We felt the prices were very reasonable for the high level of service and food quality we received. In short, the next time we're in Manteo, we'll be back.

Yelp
On the expensive side and with all those servers not sure why service is slow. Food was very good, daily fetch was fresh. Puréed eggplant was not going to work so they changed out for smashed potatoes. The fingerling potatoes are over the top!

Yelp
I've had to sit on this review and really think about our experience for a while. And I really struggled with how many stars to afford this review. My husband and I ate here last year and had one of the single best meals we've ever had at this restaurant (I left a detailed review of our wonderful experience on the Facebook page). I wish I could say the same about our more recent experience... I'm not sure what happened, but this feels like a restaurant facing an identity crisis. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't bad. It's just that, on our previous experience, we found the food to be abundant and exciting. Now, I find it to be pricy and pretentious. I get it, right, it's trying to fit in with every other high end restaurant out there, with its smaller plates and interesting flavors (they weren't), but when I'm asked to pay nearly $30 for what amounts to a half of a chicken breast (including an inedible piece of bone) and 6 gnocchi, plus $9 extra dollars if I wanted an additional "side" (I opted out), I struggle with that. To be fair, my husband's pork chop was a much larger portion, but aside from a pan jus, a few overly salted apple slices and some greens, there was nothing else on the plate to break the meal up. Again, it wasn't bad-- my chicken was a bit dry, but the gravy and gnocchi were delicious. The pork chop was tender, but not exciting in anyway...I feel like I could get that food in any city in the country, and for less than what we paid. There was nothing inspired about it, and it felt very much like they were trying so hard to be "fancy", that they failed in being in any way special, unique or exciting. The soul is gone. I will say, the drinks were strong and good (although I wished they'd had more than one option on the specialty drink menu that wasn't whiskey or gin based. But that's just me). The service was as expected, and the view was gorgeous. We were also pleasantly surprised by our comped desserts (it was our anniversary), although the dessert portions were as large as my dinner entree was small. Will we eat here again? I'm honestly not sure.

Yelp
What a mouth watering experience! We did not wait long and we had drinks in a step down cozy couch area in the meantime. The menu had a lot to choose from and it all sounded tantalizing. The tile fish and it's base of creamed corn orzo was extraordinary. The poke was creative and different with adding the watermelon and chili sauce. This restaurant is a must-go if you are in Manteo! We also had the smoked old fashioned and the pain killers!

Jill B.

Yelp
Best meal we have had on our visit! Service and presentation were impeccable. Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
We've been here many times over the years and it was one of our favorite restaurants in the Outer Banks. It is not very upscale any more. We went last night and they had a very unnecessary loud ukulele player/singer and the noise in the restaurant was deafening. Limited menu, fish came with no sides, bread was $5. 45 minute wait with a reservation. Might not be back.

Yelp
Food: had the New York strip. Very good steak. Cooked to my liking. Well seasoned. Good portion. Vegetable not overcooked. For some reason they brought a Heinz 57 -like steak sauce. Service: not quite polished. They started to bring the entree prior to taking the salad plate Ambiance: noisy but you could hear yourself and your company's conversation I would definitely go back.

Cindy C.

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant with views of the marina! The food was outstanding! Our table shared the quail small plate and the bread and butter plate. Both were excellent! The herb butter and apple butter some of the best I've had. I had the shrimp and grits small plate and it was also excellent. Spicy like I like it! Our table also had the fish of the day and the chicken with gnocchi. Everything was so good! I tried it all and we all thought it was excellent! The restaurant is a little loud but that doesn't take away from the quality of the food! We all would definitely come back!

Yelp
Amazing food and peaceful atmosphere near the water. Service outstanding. Great drinks! Will definitely be back for a date night.

Yelp
Yikes - they've gone downhill. We used to love coming here and are sad at the changed situation. The hostess was also very rude. We know folks are having trouble getting good staff but wow. We've been coming for years and knew the waitresses and bartender year to year. Sad to say we won't be coming back if remains as is. A big loss for Manteo.

Yelp
Greeter not friendly. Food was average, entrees $28+. Simple menu, five or six choices. Not impressed with service. Food was ok. Had shrimp and grits that was generous serving but lacked any exceptional taste. There was what I believe was some kind of pork pieces but they were burned. Olive oil drizzle overpowering and grits not great. We also had tuna which was over cooked. For price and setting I expected much higher quality. Cocktails were good. Overall quite an average meal.

Doug K.

Yelp
Noisy!! They had a gal doing a solo guitar thing and one could not even hear her three tables away. Food was awful. Started with a wedge of lettuce and it turned out to be half a head, smothered in halved grape tomatoes to hide the runny blue cheese to hide the brown spotted lettuce. Dinner of Tile Fish was barely warm to the touch as were the mixed veggies and baby potatoes. As experienced diners it was quite possibly the worst dinner we ever had. Gave a $10 spot to the waitress but no other tip. Wasn't her fault.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
This place is more like a lounge and a little bit older is geared more to the older crowd. Very small menu and was recommended the scallops which I ordered and then they didn't have any. So was disappointed. Tried the fried green tomato's and it wasn't the greatest. Had a strange tangy taste. So mostly won't return although I did hear the scallops were wonderful. Just not worth it for us to try again. And it's expensive.

Yelp
We had a very nice experience at 1587. The view from our table was beautiful. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. We ordered the fried Brussels sprouts and potatoes as appetizer, which we quickly devoured. I chose the daily special of grouper with vegetable risotto and my husband chose the tuna steak. We were both pleased with our choices. The creme brûlée for dessert erased a bad experience at a different restaurant from my memory. I'd recommend this spot for a date night. It seems kid friendly, although on the regular menu there was no kid menu options and nothing that my own children would have eaten. I didn't ask about a kid menu since we were able to leave our children at home. The menu is small but the quality is high. We walked in around 5:45 and were seated immediately. They accept reservations but we didn't need one.

Yelp
Great fine dining experience inside the Tranquil House Inn. I visited in August 2019. I tried the pork belly and grits appetizer, seafood pesto pasta with vegetables, creme brulee for dessert, and tried the Mai Tai. All the food was amazing and service was great! Definitely would visit again, especially for a special occasion.

Yelp
The restaurant sits pier side, with a gorgeous sunset view of boats and water. We made reservations and had a lovely view from our table. We ordered champagne to start. Soup of the day was a clam chowder with a hush puppy on top! Not too creamy and had hints of bacon. Coastal seafood with a twist of Asian flare would best describe the menu. Eclectic dishes like a seared tuna, but also lamb with Israeli couscous are a few of the main entrees. If you are wanting a nice drink, then order one of the great cocktails.

Gary P.

Yelp
I visited the restaurant on Friday 1/27/23 with my sister and brother-in-law who live in Manteo. It was their first visit there since they moved to Manteo a few years back. We ordered fried green tomatoes for an appetizer and they were outstanding! However I ordered the chicken picatta entree. When the dish arrived, there were two large pieces of what appaered to be fried chicken breast halves on a bed of rice with sauce and capers (I was expecting thin, lightly breaded chicken breast). The presentation was good but the chicken was extremely salty, almost like it had been brined. While it was still edible, it was not the chicken picatta I was expecting. Other than that, we shared a piece of peanut butter pie which was very good. I'd give everything else 5 stars except for the picatta which I would give 2 stars by itself.

Yelp
I was temporarily torn deciding between 4 and 5 stars for this restaurant. In what must have been a tragic chain of events, they overcooked my steak. HOWEVER, everything else about this meal and overall dining experience was perfection. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the steak incident of 2015 was a one time thing and it will never happen again. The rest of the food was phenomenal! First of all, the restaurant is located inside of a beautiful historic building, which is very fitting for its colonial surroundings (Roanoke, ghost tours, the Queen Elizabeth II replica etc..) The kitchen was out in the open. I thought it was pretty cool to watch the chefs cook our food. The service was impeccable. We had a really great waitress named Megan (pronounced Meg-Anne). She was a total sweetheart! She was so attentive and helpful in narrowing down our orders. The hostess, Shelby, was equally friendly. She had a permanent smile on her face, but not one of those annoying fake ones. She seemed like a genuinely positive person. Next, the food: mouthwateringly delicious. We split the Pamlico Shrimp over parmesan & sweet pea risotto as our appetizer. Not even exaggerating, one of the best things I've ever tasted in my life. The flavoring was perfect, with just the right amount of cheese. I ordered the filet medium rare, but it was served to me medium/borderline medium well. I really don't like my steak cooked to that degree, so I cannot fairly judge if it was good steak or not. However, the sides of asparagus, mushrooms, and white cheddar cake were so yummy! I also split this with my mom, who in turn shared her Grilled Tilefish over beets, corn and a summer succotash. That dish was light and amazing. My aunt ordered the Red Snapper over okra, summer relish and a blueberry reduction. Although I liked everything, the Snapper was definitely the best entree. I should have known better than to stray from seafood in OBX. All of their seafood is caught locally. Finally, we tried the Creme Brulee for dessert. I couldn't put my finger on what they did differently, but every other restaurant that serves Creme Brulee should figure it out and imitate it. It was just in a category of its own! I would return in a heartbeat!

Yelp
My vegan sister-in-law enjoyed this place. For the other 4 members of our party, the best part of the meal was making jokes about how much we disliked it. The service was mediocre at best. Our waitress didn't show up at the table for a solid 5 minutes, if not more, after we sat down, and then after I asked for a soda, I was told that they would have to get it out of a vending machine as if it was some big inconvenience for them. And I know it's somewhat gauche to order soda at nicer restaurants but I've been to countless high-end restaurants in my life and I'm not a big alcohol consumer so I get soda instead, sue me. After the soda request, we were seemingly talked down to by the hostess/manager woman like we were indigent children (my wife and I are almost 30 years old and spent more than $200 on this meal after everything was said and done). The artichoke dip and Caesar salad were solid, (to their credit the artichoke dip was actually very good) but my wife was repulsed by the corn chowder she ordered and my ribeye was tougher than the sole of my foot. I've had quite a few ribeyes in my life and I know they're supposed to be fatty (or marbled for the more refined set) but this thing was hard to cut into and at times almost impossible to chew. And then when I told the waitress this, she was dumbfounded and gave me a look as if no one had ever told her anything at this establishment was less than perfect. She replied by saying something to the effect of "we'll see what we can do about that" and ultimately gave us a free dessert. It was creme brûlée and it was fine. Not the best I've had, not the worst. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the entire experience. But like I said at the beginning, if you're a vegan, give it a go.

Andrea L.

Yelp
This was our first time dining and we loved the atmosphere service and food. Excellent!!! We will definitely go again and again!

Yelp
We came here on vacation for our anniversary dinner and the food was excellent! From freshly caught fish to the best hush puppies I have ever had. This restaurant was definitely small town in its ambience but also provided gorgeous views to the water and highly attentive wait staff. I could not speak highly enough of the experience and we will definitely visit again.

Joshua L.

Yelp
We have lived in the OBX for 10 years now but this is the first time we have been to 1587. Why have we waited so long?! Everything was soooooo good! From the handcrafted cocktails by the bartender Matt, to the apps, main course and dessert. My wife and I went for our 13 year anniversary and couldn't have had a better meal. The entire staff was so gracious and the owner Donnie even came by to check on us. The Peanut butter and jelly pork belly app was amazing! I had the seafood pasta with shrimp and scallops and my wife had the scallops over stone ground cheddar grits. Do your self a favor next time you are in downtown Manteo and get you a reservation at 1587. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Don't get me wrong, this place is one of the very few "fine dining" locales in this area of the outer banks--however, it needs some work to justify it's "fine dining" prices. My wife and I have been here several times and we have never had a particularly bad meal. The food always seems fresh and well prepared, but we've never been blown away by presentation or taste, for that matter. On our most recent visit (last week), the waitress was inattentive--bordering apathy. We were often ignored and even simple pleasantries (thank you, you're welcome) were missing from her vocabulary. This can occasionally be overlooked on a busy night, but the restaurant was less than half full and well staffed. The view is great and the menu is good but we would be hesitant to dine here again due to our recent experience and the abundance of other restaurants in the surrounding area.
google avatar

Janet M.

Yelp
Best food I've had in the OBX area to date, and I've been coming to the outer banks for over 10 years. The staff is very friendly & professional, the food was so incredible and the ambiance was one of the more upscale settings I've encountered in OBX, but somehow still very relatable and relaxing. Not pretentious by any means. To start, we got the scallops and the vegetable roulettes, which were fantastic - everything cooked perfectly. We got the grouper and the tile fish as our mains, and it was all so good, we cleaned our plates - fish was at perfect temps, and the sides were all very flavorful. I can hardly believe we ordered dessert, but we did. We split the blueberry tartlett/pastry. It was light and fluffy and creamy, so good. All of the desserts are also made in house, and all of the food generally appeared to have thoughtful presentation, as well as being full of flavor. We will return here every year, I think.
google avatar

Brenda D.

Yelp
Perfect setting on the water, awesome and very attentive service and delicious food! I had the Mushroom Risotto which was very flavorful and stocked with veggies! My husband had the Osso Bucco which he went to the kitchen and sent them compliments for. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Lesley N.

Yelp
This was one of the best meals I've had in the outer banks in years. The restaurant is not obvious from the road, as it's hidden in the tranquil house, but it is well worth the short drive from nags head. There is a beautiful view of the marina and sunset (if you're going for dinner). All of the food is delicious, but I highly recommend the tuna from the menu. We had their cobbler made from local blueberries - again, delicious! Try it out. You won't be disappointed!

C B.

Yelp
This is our favorite place to go for date night when we are in Nags Head. 1587 is a beautiful setting on the Manteo waterfront. This is NOT a touristy restaurant. They take reservations and are careful to not overbook, so service goes very smoothly. Several seafood entrees that are locally sourced, as are some of the vegetables. This is fine dining, not fried dining. Food, service and ambiance are excellent.
google avatar

Laura N.

Yelp
Very nice atmosphere with views of the harbour. No soup for an appetizer, as something went wrong we were told. The rib eye was over cooked and no choices for salad dressings. Service was very good and accommodating, as our first choice of wine was not good and we requested something else. Downtown Manteo is lovely.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
My party of 11 had a spectacular end-of-vacation dinner at 1587. The fish was perfect, the beef was perfect, and substitutions / customization was no issue at all. The service was attentive without being overbearing - Matt the bartender came over after noticing that maybe my wife's drink wasn't quite to her liking and quickly replaced it. Service that so seamlessly anticipates your needs is hard to come by. Some years we have 20+ people, and they assured us that (with a little heads up) that they could accommodate. Add an hour on the front end to explore beautiful old town Manteo. 1587 is well worth the trip.
google avatar

Benjamin B.

Yelp
I've been here a few times with just myself and my wife. Small restaurant with a cozy feeling. Great views of the boat dock and bay, leading into the sound. I had the ribeye or porterhouse - prepared very well with a great taste. Old Fashioned tasted amazing - had a few to make sure the first wasn't a fluke. My wife has had the filet a few times now - a little dry the last time. Her vodka sodas were on point. I recommend going here on Friday in the summertime, enjoy First Friday's in Manteo where everything is open later than normal and take a stroll through this nice little downtown.

Yelp
We came here before going to the Lost Colony at the Waterside Theater with a large group of 11 people. We got reservations and were offered the family table near the entrance where we could all sit together or separate tables with a great water view. We opted for the family table, and it was just fine. This is a wonderful location, and the menu is superb. Our server was just great and our food was delicious. **We used Foursquare to "checkin" and got 20% off our bill - food AND alcohol were included. ** Although this is an upscale restaurant, we were comfortable in dressy tops and shorts. The men were in shorts and polo/golf/Tommy Bahama camp style shirts. The menu offered various seafood and non seafood items, including a terrific prix fixe menu where you could choose from various appetizers, soup, salad, entrees and dessert. Our party had the following: Mahi mahi - delicious Crabcake - delicious, mostly crab, no filling Grilled tuna on white bean/tomato- delicious See a pattern here? Their house salad consisted of fresh Melon and Strawberries, aged White Cheddar, Sunflower Seeds and Champagne Vinaigrette. One food item I missed out on was the Black and White truffle mac and cheese. Well, next time... Desserts were worth missing our behind the scenes tickets for the Lost Colony. Creme brulee, Tempura banana with coconut ice cream and chocolate bon something that was rich and creamy! They do have a vegetarian menu, which is hard to find, especially around seafood locations. When I win the lottery, this is the place I will fly my private jet and have dinner once a week!

Yelp
We make a point of dining at 1587 whenever we are visiting the Outer Banks. This restaurant, as well as The Full Moon, are must visits when in Manteo. Waterfront dining. A great wine list. Excellent Food. The important thing to remember is that the atmosphere, the quality of food, and the quality of service are definitely in line with the price. A good value and a good time for all. For those who remember "The Best of..." on FoodTV ... this is a Best of restaurant.

Amaron C.

Yelp
This restaurant is phenomenal, truly a hidden gem you don't want to miss! We had hush puppy fritters with vinegar aioli served over a bed of arugula, delicious bread with spreadable 100% butter. No alcohol this evening but the iced tea was incredibly fresh, a spritz of lemon and voila, perfect summer sip! My boyfriend and I had different entrees but couldn't resist sharing the wealth. I ordered one of three salads with beets, peaches, pickled onion and a creamy dressing with the fresh catch, snapper, cooked to perfection, slightly crunchy. He had the tuna, above sushi grade, chefs recommendation rare with canelli beans, tomatoes, sausage, artichoke hearts and mouth watering jus. These dishes were winners and easily the best meal we've both had in a long time, which is saying a lot coming from the restaurant scene in DC. Normally we pass up dessert but chose the Creme brûlée, pure bliss. It was my 30th birthday but this restaurant is an occasion in itself. Thank you to the chefs and the super friendly staff for making this a night to remember. We will be back!

Yelp
This place is delicious and the setting is so charming. Tables for two by the water are so cozy and romantic. Matt the bartender makes a very strong drink (and a delicious drink). The seafood is fresh and expertly prepared and presented. The desserts were fantastic, too. Make a reservation before you go since it's small. But they pay attention to details here.

Yelp
I usually only review places I really like, buuuut I took my girlfriend here for her birthday last week and was disappointed. The location was great, right on the water, and the restaurant was beautiful. Now don't get me wrong; the food wasn't bad...it just wasn't great. And for the price, it should be great... She got mahi-mahi cakes which were "just ok" and "a little dry" according to her. And I ordered a medium-rare filet, which was cooked to more than medium. I tried to just eat it, but it was dry and tough...and when you spend $32 on a filet it should be cooked correctly, right? So when the waiter came to check on us (5 minutes later), I showed him that it was overcooked and he offered to take it back. I know it's a simple mistake, heck I've overcooked steaks or tuna before too, so I wasn't mad or anything. But when it came back out, I was given a lesser piece of filet (smaller, thinner) and it was plated with the reheated sides that were on my original plate (presentation was thrown out the window too). I could tell because my bite marks were still there. I mean, if they messed it up, shouldn't I get a fresh start to my meal and not reheated sides? Maybe not, but it irked me a little. Plus the fact that there was no apology for the inconvenience. Also, my new filet was cooked correctly this time, but was still tough, and still not that great. The demi glaze was bland too; the gorgonzola polenta cake, which was reaaally good, was the saving grace. Looking back on it, I wish we had gone to Owens', Colington Café, or JK's. All the same price range, all better in my opinion. We actually skipped dessert at 1587 and went to Colington Café to get their dessert and drink some champagne so we could end on a more positive note! Again, it wasn't bad...but it wasn't great.

Yelp
Hats off to the chef! Best lamb we have had in a long time. We have been eating lamb for our anniversary for 30 years. This ranks among the best.

Yelp
Romantic and amazing food! Vegetable curry was so comforting. The little rice cake it came with was perfectly crunchie and wished for more. We also shared the tuna steak which was big and cooked just right

Yelp
1587 was a welcomed treat on our first night in Manteo. We were staying at the Tranquil Inn and made a reservation at the restaurant. My boyfriend was on a vegan diet, so the waiter suggested he chose a protein and the chef would get "free reign." His dish was delicious with couscous, greens, and oysters piled high. I had the fish of the day from Wanchese which was cooked to perfection. It could have used some acidity but overall the dish was simplistic enough as to let the fresh fish stand out on its own. This was served with a thyme polenta cake, leaks, and mushrooms. We began our meal with the soup of the day, mushroom with truffle oil which was Delicious! My two negatives are the price for which the vegan dish was quite expensive for the ingredients and the wine selection by the glass very minimal. Service was very attentive and we returned the following night at the bar for appetizers. The risotto was heavy on white wine but nice and the Asian-inspired scallops cooked to perfection. Overall, we enjoyed our entrees the first night most. The atmosphere is romantic but still casual enough. Give it a go if you are in Manteo. It was the best we had all weekend.

Yelp
We spent a weekend there in Manteo a couple of weeks ago. Had a very nice dinner the evening we arrived, and made a reservation for the next evening for our anniversary. We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation, and was advised it would be a few minutes before we could be seated..... 45 minutes later we were seated, then 10 minutes before we saw a waitress ( she apologized)....ordered wine, and while waiting, a group of about 10 to 12, seated between the reception area and the bar got very loud, extremely so..... this continued throughout our dinner. A completely ruined evening !!! I guess management preferred the meal tab and their bar bill over the over the comfort of the rest of the patrons..... shame.... too nice a place for such poor management.

Yelp
First of all, having experienced fine dining across the U.S. and beyond, I know it is more than a beautiful view and elevated prices. Possibly 1587 is just a little bit better than the normal OBX tourist restaurants. Having read many of the reviews from possible food critics on this site and not just the average tourist, I am inclined to agree that there is a definite blandness to their entrees. For instance, my steak and my wife's fish were totally lacking flavor. The restaurant website reviews are dated back to 2013 and beyond which make me believe this restaurant is living on a past reputation and something has been lost since then. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g60755-d414368-r468266416-1587_Restaurant-Manteo_Roanoke_Island_Outer_Banks_North_Carolina.html#

Yelp
First of all the name is awesome. Decent selection of food. Went there for my wife's birthday and had flowers sent to the table before hand and they handled it well. Wife liked it a lot. Pricier than most places on the island but it is nicer as well. Will likely be back.
