15 Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland - Explore & Book

"Set in a hidden garden square, close to leafy Kelvingrove Park, 15 Woodside Place is a handsome relic of Glasgow’s Victorian hey-day. When it was built in 1834, the city was one of the richest in Europe. And this was the heart of its merchants’ quarter, where wealthy industrialists built terraces of lavish houses on which no expense was spared. Today, spacious rooms with high ceilings and ornate plaster cornices have been carefully restored. Pillars frame the grand entrance where a glazed front door opens onto a mosaic-tiled threshold flanked by Corinthian columns. In the evening, glittering chandeliers cast pretty patterns on the hallway’s soft grey walls, hung with modern art and antique mirrors. A cantilevered staircase floats upwards past panels of stained glass to 5 fabulous guest rooms with super-kingsize beds, big squashy sofas and walk-in monsoon showers. With its wow-factor interiors, this place serves up a real sense of Glasgow’s decadent period style, but it’s cool and cosy, too - and you don’t have to be wealthy to stay here. Highs Ideal location for exploring dynamic Glasgow, within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of Buchanan Street and the museums and galleries of the upmarket West End Glasgow architecture at its best: this palatial house is Grade A listed and surrounded by grand terraces Gorgeous bedrooms mix original features and contemporary furniture - we particularly liked the voluminous Charles Rennie Mackintosh with its fireplace and cornicing Breakfast is served in your room (in bed if you want), so instead of rushing downstairs you get an extra hour to slob around in your bathrobe Informal and homely, with a welcoming lounge where you can curl up with a book plus a garden square that's ideal for picnics Lows There’s no restaurant so you’ll have to go out for lunch and dinner No bar or drinks service, though i-escape guests get a free bottle of wine and there are tea- and coffee-making facilities in every room Outdoor shoes are not allowed past the entry hall, so bring slippers or some will be provided This is a small operation and there's no round-the-clock reception; let them know in advance what time you plan to arrive Ages 5+ only" - Lesley Gillilan

Gorgeous Victorian townhouse in the west end with easy access to restaurants, museums and the City Centre. We stayed in the Thistle Room and it was spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast is included and it was delicious. Lovely touches include plush towels, an electrical adapter for North American plug-ins, a games room, DVDs and space in the fridge for things you may want to store. Lorraine is a lovely lady and a fountain of local knowledge. Five stars!!

I like to look over past reviews to see what things people were unhappy with. I'm happy to say, we did not experience any issues at all! We arrived late due to a postponed flight. We were sure to let Lorraine know about our issue and the estimated time we would arrive. I think some people don't realize that this is someone's home, and you need to be respectful of their time! Lorraine was really there to let us in, we had already ordered our breakfast by email for the next day, and we settled into the front room of the house on the 2nd floor. The room was huge, clean, and beautiful. There was coffee and tea in the room in addition to little snack items. We had a nice table and chairs to eat our delivered breakfast right in the room. My husband and I actually enjoyed being able to eat in the room and not have to get dressed to rush to breakfast in the dining room. From the bed and breakfast, we were able to walk everywhere in the city that we wanted to go. We did the "style mile", West Glasgow area, etc. We did not have a car and did not need public transportation. Lorraine prefers that the guests do not wear shoes upstairs. She told us in advance, so we were fine with that! The bed was comfortable and the location was super quiet, but so close to all the action. We were out and about so much, we only saw Lorraine during our breakfast delivery.

Quite a special place to stay. Our room was huge with vaulted ceilings and an excellent modern bathroom. Lorraine gave us a warm welcome and provided excellent service throughout.

Lovely stay in a beautiful guesthouse - host was very helpful. Breakfast served in the room was a lovely treat. Area was handy for trains and Sauchiehall Street. Host advised free parking at weekend and then gave us instructions to park round the back of home in plenty time to avoid morning charges.

A great place to decompress in the city. Very good location close to many bars, restaurants, and things to do. The room was excellent; very spacious, clean and comfortable with a touch of style. Some slightly quirky touches (no shoes inside, slippers are provided, breakfast is ordered the night before and delivered to your room in the morning) and some excellent perks (lots of necessities available to make your stay easier and happier, and off street parking out the back). We felt very well looked after and really enjoyed our stay.

I stayed in the Blue, aka Junior suite. Photos on the booking website don’t do it justice. The suite is generously sized and the space flows well, with a beautiful view over a quiet square. The interior design is lovely, and I even grabbed some photos to help inspire my next bedroom decoration project. Lorraine was a fantastic host and a lot of thought has clearly gone into what guests need from a stay. I especially liked the attention to detail that has gone into the accessories in the room, such as sanitary products, lens wipes etc. The room was on the top floor and it was quiet, airy and private. Location cannot be beaten and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick 15Glasgow again, if I’m ever back in the area.

What a great bed and breakfast. We stayed for two nights after arriving in Glasgow. We were in the Thistle Room. The room is large, the bed comfortable, the shower great, and super clean. A full Scottish breakfast is delivered to your room each morning and is delicious. Shoes are to be removed at the door and I can see why. We were in some rain and you don't want to ruin her beautful home with dirty shoes. We were able to walk everywhere. Kelingrove Museum, where we met a tour, was about six blocks away through the park. We were able to walk everywhere. The was also a large common room stocked with a refrigerator with water. Lorraine was a great host and provided us directions and suggestions. A great experience!

In early September my wife and I spent 3 nights in the CRM room. It is a COLOSSAL room--I paced it off as roughly 500 square feet not counting the bathroom/ensuite--with 3 (openable) floor-to-ceiling windows, 13-14 foot ceilings, exquisite moldings, and beautiful, tasteful decorations all over. It is one level above the street, yet there was almost no street noise and not a hint of the other guests. It has one of the most comfortable beds we've ever slept on--decidedly firm but not hard--and many subtle but appreciated touches like in-room tea and coffee service, with little sweet treats replenished daily, and a ground floor common room refrigerator for guest use, with provided beverages and storage space for restaurant leftovers. ||The building itself, while unimposing from the outside, is overall striking and impressive inside. It is in a great location for exploring Glasgow's West End, the University, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery, the Botanical Garden and the shops on Byres Rd and Great Western Rd. It is a 15-25 minute walk to downtown, depending upon your speed. We felt completely safe walking after dark. Almost no vehicle traffic.||It is not close to any subway station, but we always were able to get Ubers with minimal waiting time. Very reasonable in Glasgow.||Lorraine, the host, was extremely friendly, accommodating and helpful in every way we could have hoped. Excellent restaurant suggestions.||There are a few things to keep in mind, as they are not obvious on the website or in your confirmation email.||First, breakfast is served in your room, not in a common area where you interact with other guests, if the social element of staying at a B&B is important to you. Breakfast also is a modest affair--delicious, well-prepared and super punctual--but not the sort of massive overload of options some B&Bs offer.||Second, Lorraine asks all guests to remove shoes upon entering, and she provides a variety of slippers to wear inside if you wish. This was an unexpected inconvenience rather than a real problem.

Yelp
Lovely BNB. Beautiful, clean, big rooms. It is quiet. It is right across the street from a park. The host is friendly and helpful. We didn't get to sample breakfast because we only stayed one night and had an early flight home. She has a parlor downstairs where you can go to read, watch a DVD, have a nightcap (she had a little wine, and cream liqueur similar to Bailey's (that's what we had). The only drawback is there is no elevator or lift. We carried our luggage up 4 flights of stairs. The host helped my husband with our bags. I would highly recommend this place and if I ever get to Glasgow again I will stay here again!
