1864 The Sea Captain's House Hotel

This place truly has the most breathtaking views of Oia and is situated adjoining the iconic blue domes. The staff and service is top notch.There can be no better place than this to enjoy your visit to Santorini. A small pool would have been a big +. To sum it up, a highly recommended place.

There is, honestly, not much more to be said that hasn't been covered by the myriad reviews on this delightful "hotel" in Oia. We tend to travel independently so we hired a car from the airport and drove here in about 20 mins. This is a drive that affords many views of the island as you wind your way up to Oia.||You can't park at the hotel given the nature of Oia ie perched on the hillside, but there is a nearby parking lot (several actually) and Takis is very communicative before and during the stay and arranges for porters to meet you and bring you to the property.||It is a delight indeed. Perfect views across the caldera and over Oia. The iconic blue domes are right there and everything is a close walk from the room. The breakfast is a fantastic way to start the day, served on the patio outside the room. The room itself has a two double beds and could easily accommodate 4 people, but the second room is up some very narrow stairs and is a bit of a challenge to navigate. Overall, there is plenty of room and there is a bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and a shower. ||Downsides? Only that Oia is a victim of its touristic status and so, especially when there are cruise ships in town, and at sunset, it is incredibly crowded. One of the best views in the town is from the walkway outside this hotel, so there will be hoards of people searching for the unforgettable shot, often in staged, flowing dresses with professional photographers. You might as well embrace it and take amusement from this quest for Santorini photographic perfection.||Being so central, it pays to get up at dawn and walk the streets of Oia then. It is basically deserted and peaceful (at least in May) and the light is sublime. The sunsets are, of course, legendary but supremely crowded in the evening.||Delightful place to stay - you will love it.

We stayed in the Captain suite and enjoyed every morning waking up to the beautiful views and having a feast set up for breakfast every day. The Instagrammable picture spot with the 2 blue domes is just steps away. Hence, it is very busy outside the suite, with people constantly walking past taking pictures of themselves and the scenery. We loved our time at Oia, and Takis is an excellent host who takes care of his guests. The town of Oia experienced water supply issues, and he alerted us as to when the town would be cutting the water supply so we could have enough time to take showers. He even brought extra bottled water to our room just in case. Now we are looking forward to seeing when we can come back.

An unforgettable stay! We had an incredible experience staying at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcomed by the owners, Takis and Tanos, who went above and beyond to share the best insider tips about the island. Their warmth and hospitality made a huge difference. The location is unbeatable—right at the island’s top photo hotspot—but what really surprised us was how peaceful and private the hotel felt despite being in such a popular area. The seating areas are cleverly tucked away, letting you relax without being disturbed by the crowds—a rare find in this part of the island! After around 4 PM, the area gets much quieter as the cruise ship crowds leave, making it perfect for enjoying the famous sunsets in peace. You’re surrounded by excellent restaurants, bars, and everything you might need for an ideal holiday.

Our family of 4 stayed in the Cave suite. The suite is gorgeous, quite spacious with 2 bed rooms, 2 bath rooms, kitchen, indoor jacuzzi and plenty of closet space. Contemporary, chic interiors. The sea captains house is at the heart of Oia, with people lining up for photos outside your window all day long. However, once you walk through that door, it’s nice and quiet. Late at night and early morning when it’s quiet, it is just magical. ||The famous blue domes are right next to the property which means you are fighting with lines of people to get to your suite when cruise ships are in port. Breakfast is an extensive spread with post card perfect views including fashion shoots. I sat over the wall and watched sunrise over the blue church dome every morning - one of those magical moments and a passerby even asked to take my photo. My son and I would sit over the same wall (it’s wide and spacious, typical Oia style) and watch stars and caldera in the night. We have a great lounge/balcony with comfortable couch and table with the same views but somehow the wall was our favorite spot 😀.||Manager Takis checked on us every day and helped us plan the perfect trip. All his restaurant recommendations were great, and he booked us on a small group sunset catamaran sailing which was fantastic. The market square is nearby and porter comes to the taxi to help with the luggage for arrival and departure as the hotel is in the pedestrian zone. Overall great stay. We stayed in Imerovigli during our previous visit and it was super quiet. Wanted something different this time around and knew to expect crowds when we chose Oia.||Tips: We went to the old castle to view sunset one day with people packed like sardines. Had much better experience walking to the right from there another day (Takis’s advice) and had a beautiful view with windmills and was much quieter.||@wanderlustvani on instagram for more photos

If you want that postcard view of Santorini from your terrace, book this place. Pictures are worth 1000 words. The manager Takis was super helpful and accommodating. Even helped fix the broken handle on my suitcase 😊. The free fresh breakfast on the scenic terrace was unbelievable. The hotel was only a few steps down from the main strip so it was great for anyone with mobility issues. Regardless, they provided a free porter to help with luggage up and down to the hotel. Steps away from all the scenic spots in Oia where you can take you memorable pictures. And the free taxi to hotel offered by Booking.com was the deal maker. Book here and now. You will not regret it. Stayed in Sailing suite which had a larger porch area than the other suite.

This was our "splurge" hotel after our Rick Steve's Greece tour. It's one of the oldest houses on Santorini, loving restored and furnished. We stayed in the Venetian Suite, which I thought had the best balcony. You're right on the beautiful caldera side of Oia, and it was a treat just to sit outside. There is a constant parade of photo takers at all hours, but it really did not disturb us. Breakfast was served on our balcony, many options, all fresh and tasty with eggs made to order. Our host Takis was friendly and helpful, making taxi/porter arrangements for us, recommending places to eat, etc. His experience in the hotel industry showed in this little gem. Be prepared for hordes of cruise ship tourists as you walk around, though. There were times we just came back to the room to sit and enjoy the view.

Wow. What an absolutely phenomenal place to stay. My family of 3 stayed in the Cave suite for 4 nights and it was our favorite lodging on our two-week trip by far. Huge room with 2 beds, 2 baths, an indoor jacuzzi and tons of space. Super clean and comfortable and quiet, we could not have been happier.||• Location is right in the center of everything (steps below the famous 2 blue dome photo spot where people start lining up at 6:30 am in the morning)|• Incredible views that you will not get tired of. You look right down on Amoudi Bay and the really cool cliff jumping platform that we ended up going to twice|• Great breakfast every morning – there was no way we could have eaten all of the food that they provided for us|• Nice little courtyard with steps that led to a little balcony where we had our breakfast every day and our drinks at night, great place to just unwind and soak up the atmosphere|• Takis was an amazing host and very helpful with tips on where to go in Santorini||I cannot recommend the Sea Captains House enough - if we are ever lucky enough to make it back to Santorini one day then I know for sure where we will be staying.
