1906 Mission

I’ve stayed at 1906 Mission a few times now and it just keeps getting better. The new common spaces are really nice and make it feel even more welcoming. The neighborhood has also changed a lot and feels much safer than it used to, which makes a big difference. Everything is always super clean, especially the bathrooms and kitchen, and the staff clearly takes good care of the place. For me it’s the perfect spot to land in the city. Highly recommend!

I love this place!!! Very clean, staff are wonderful and very quiet...House keeping cleans the showers and bathrooms every day... You do get your money's worth!!!! Hotel staff responds to your concerns immediately. The kitchen is clean and has everything to cook your own meals. They provide coffee and paper plates for your meal. A nice patio for your morning cup of coffee. A hidden gem in the mission district.

Recommend this hotel for budget friendly trips No Air conditioning on the 3 floor and the room gets really hot in the summer. Not sure why it wasn't mentioned in any review or amenities description of the hotel. Probably rooms are good with fans ONLY in the winters for stay. Front desk was not present

Warning! This place is kinda risky for some reasons. 1. Check-in app is required, but the instruction is sent at the check-in date. If you are busy at the day, you will be stuck on a full of homeless people street. 2. Hotel manager or receptionist is not there. If you have a trouble, you have to take care by yourself. For example, if you don't bring your phone when go to bathroom, you lock out yourself, and you have no help. You see a phone number, but you get no response. 3. This place is not so maintained. Some signs on wall are coming out, some holes on bed sheet, window screen falls off. If you can take them, this is good place.

When I looked for a hotel, I stopped at 1906 Mission hotel. I read someone's review and looked at their pictures. I would like to compare what they wrote and what I will see. During my stay there, I can say that I faced the issue with a door keypod (entrance and on room's door). I was supposed to wait approx. 30 minutes until someone helped me to get in. If you have an issue with an entrance, call the number provided in your confirmation email. There is no elevator, so that you have to carry-on your luggage and other belongings up and down. The area around the hotel is considered as dangerous due to drug dealing and other crimes. However, you dont have to worry if you dont walk outside after 8 pm. The hotel by itself is clean enough, housekeeping provides cleaning service every day or upon your request. Kitchen is fully equipped and also most the time is clean unless another guests did not clean after themselves during the day. Restrooms are very small and if you have any disabilities, you will be slightly hard to in and out from there. Shower rooms are big, clean and equipped with all necessary essentials. Furniture in the room are old but it is strong enough, a bed is soft and comfortable. Backyard is fullfilled with a lot of plants and in the evening, there is a white noise and dimmable lights - a wonderful place to relax. This hotel is in the close proximity to BART, public transportation, grocery stores and cafes.

The stay was terrible- it was so cold on that room that I got fever and sore throat, were not able to explore the city, just had to stay in bed. The common areas were really clean and nice but I missed the whole vacation because of how cold your property is. My boyfriend got seek too but slightly. The property have never responded to my notes about windy rooms

Pictures aren't accurate. The common facilities (kitchen and bathroom) were clean. Our room window connected to a rooftop with many other rooms in the facility and had no lock or bars/ didnt feel very secure with lots of trash outside. Thin walls could hear lots of talking and people going up and down stairs. Bathroom located down a very long hall. The app you have to download to get in and out was odd but worked fine. Walkable location for mission district. As a solo female traveler I wouldn't stay here alone. It wasn't horrible or amazing but you get what you pay for.

Although it seems this place was once kinda hip, it’s a bit rundown now and, as others have said, the experience is loud and lacking. More than frustrating, it was really sad to see. Our room (302) was on the Mission St rest side of the building, with lovely windows that unfortunately offered zero insulation from street noise. The room was lackluster and plain, lacking attention to detail. The sheets were very basic and had stains. All of the furniture, drapes, linens, and walls needed repair or replacing. The road noise was overwhelming. The vagrants on the street out front didn’t seem dangerous but sure made the experience uncomfortable. The bathrooms, located at the far end of the building, were clean and always available. The one staff person I encountered was kind. As other reviewers pointed out, the light in the headboard was making a non-stop, high pitched whirring noise. Luckily I had earplugs and needed them anyway, to dampen the buses, trucks, and druggies yelling down below. Worth noting, there is no elevator. At a bargain of $85 for a Friday night in November, you definitely get what you pay for here but I’m not sure it’s worth the savings.

no ac in rooms, there was at least 5 rooms with their doors open because of how hot the rooms were. The area where the hotel is located is surrounded by homeless and it stinks super bad. I did not feel safe at all and I ended up leaving and staying at a different hotel because of how bad the situation was. Do not recommend at all save your time and money and stay elsewhere.

The only single thing that gave me a reason not to give it 5 stars was the neighborhood. It's certainly not the hotel's fault, and it wasn't a problem during the day, but at night, there was no safe parking nearby, and the walk back to the hotel's non-descript front door was a little unpleasant. If you know the mission, you know why. Again, not the hotel's fault. Once I got in, I was greeted by the manager, who showed me where my room was. It was my first time staying in a hotel like this: communal but private restrooms and showers, communal kitchen, no appliances or sinks in the rooms, and could be completely self-service. The entry, main halls, common areas, and kitchen were clean and organized. Real plants accented some corners. The restrooms were a bit on the small side, but didn't present a problem. I'd imagine they might be difficult to use for a larger individual, but this is a fact of life in San Francisco. Expect everything to be sized for a smaller or average-sized person, as space really is expensive in this city. My room was exceptionally clean, except for what looked like a small, unthreatening stain on the carpet. All bedding was spotless and had no odors at all. I very much appreciate the cleaning staff not using scented cleaning products on the bedding! The bed and pillows were firm and comfortable, and I rested well, after taking longer to fall asleep due to simply being in a new and unfamiliar place. I was actually worried that the yelling and other noises from the street below would keep me up, but they were hardly noticeable once I was in the room. On a related note, it's silly that there are other reviews that give this hotel one-star ratings, simply due to its location and its design. It's not the hotel's fault that there are "scary" people outside at night. They actually won't bother you if you don't attract attention to yourself. This shouldn't be a surprise to you if you've ever spent time in the Mission district before. Also, there's nothing wrong with communal restrooms and showers! It's very common in other countries and in hostels. You've gotta get over your expectation that everyone's supposed to have their own private toilet and shower. That's a _luxury_ by most of the world's standards, and this is a convenience/efficiency hotel, not a luxury hotel.

We booked 2 rooms for 8 nights at this place. To be fair, the place is nice and acceptably clean. But if you're travelling with young kids and you need good sleep, we would not recommend this place: *Dangerous area, we don't mind the homeless people, but there's a shooting on the street while we were there - we saw blood trail on the street, in front of the hotel entrance while we were walking back. *Thin wall: you can hear whatever is said/ played in the two rooms next to yours and the room above your floor. *The hotel said on its website that it didn't allow pets. I saw their own employee taking her Pit Bull dog in and out of the employees' rooms. *Contactless reception: you open the room with your phone's App, if you forget your phone in the room and close the door by accident, you are locked out and have to wait till someone comes - I was left cold in my pijama for 30 mins because the employee had to take her dog out for peeing first before tending to my need. *Poor maintenance, poor customer service. Here's our own experience on the night of July 1st: - 8.50pm: we were back at the hotel, found out that one of our rooms: room 209 had smoke alarm's battery ran out - it kept beeping loudly every 30 seconds. - 9pm: my husband texted the hotel and was told that Maintenance will be sent to have a look. - 9.06pm: I called the hotel again, got the same assurance that "someone will come to fix it". - Until 9.50pm - no one texted us to update the status if there was anyone coming at all or any suggestions to mitigate the situation. I kept calling the hotel and no one picked up the phone. As my husband works Eastern time, he basically had to find somewhere else to sleep. - 9.52pm: I texted the hotel again, same answer: "we are trying our best to have someone come take a look" - 10.38pm: the hotel suggested a room change, by then my husband was already sleeping in another hotel. The noise was so loud that it startled my 1.5 year old daughter and prevented all of us from sleeping. We were staying next door to 209. Because of the screeching noise, she was woken up at 1.50am and started crying and screaming in distress for 1.5 hours. July 2nd, I called the hotel and asked for the update, one of the hotel's team members said: "I don't think we need to refund the whole night just because of the smoke alarm noise".. I was really shocked to hear such statement - we chose to stay at the hotel in the trust that we have a well-taken-care-of place to rest and sleep. We should not have been made aware that your smoke alarm's battery needs to be changed, let alone being sleeping-plan-impacted and sleep-deprived by it. I wonder if any of the hotel's team members has tried sleeping in a room where smoke alarm keeps screeching every 30 seconds before. I sent this email to Carina - the manager of the hotel front desk on July 2nd. Today July 5th - I still haven't heard back from her. Update: Carina got back to me on the night of July 5th. She said she will go ahead and process to refund us the July 1st night. We appreciated it, hence we updated the review rating.

Maybe it's ok for adults but I was traveling alone with my 11 year old and the neighborhood is super sketchy. I'd didn't even bother going in because of the passed out addict in the doorway I would have needed to step over. That guy was just one of dozens of unhoused people lining the street in front of the property.

If you need a great quiet place to stay, then this is it. This place has thick walls and is a quiet, restful place in the middle of a large and sometimes dangerous city. The staff are local and friendly and amazing, and they did help solve some major problems for me. There is a small lounge with tea and coffee, along with a kitchen. This is the best hostel/shared bath place I have ever been to. And I have youth hosteled my way across the world. I highly recommend a stay here. However, you need to be aware this is not a five star hotel. The room is a basic accommodation--yet small and comfortable. There are shared baths, which when I came (October 25, 2022) were clean and well stocked. The bathrooms are very small and are at the end of the hallway. They were fine. You also need to know that this is NOT in any way handicap accessible. The front entrance is a flight of stairs--normal for San Francisco, steep and hard to climb anywhere else. Do NOT book this hotel if you need a wheelchair or if you have heavy luggage to lug up and down. Book in person and be prepared to use a mobile app cell phone key.

I had a great stay, the room was very clean, the restrooms were clean, the shower was clean. The staff was friendly and responsive. I had a little hiccup with the key app, could have been my phone, but the manager got it figured out and fixed. The bed was comfortable. The area is sketchy, a lot of homeless people lingering around, and some people were yelling all night, but I knew what I was getting myself into when I chose this area, and it's not the hotel's fault. I love the the fact that it's so close to the Bart station, Castro, and Dolores Park. I will be back for sure.

Buzzing from a speaker in the headboard in the bed, homeless encampment out front and no one at the front desk. Was told no chance at refund either. Find somewhere for a little bit more and bite the bullet it is worth it to not be at this place.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The bathrooms are first of communal, and in terrible condition along with the showers. There is no staff here and when we called it couldn't go through. The postal service had to ask US for help because no staff was ever here. The walls are probably thinner than paper and you can everything at all hours. I've probably cleaned my room better than this hotel did. Our sheets were stained, and the desk had dirt on it. Other than that, the coffee station was nice. Don't come here unless you want to flush 94$ down the communal toilet

I was extremely disappointed with my stay here. There was no parking, no elevator, no hospitality or in-house breakfast options, no bathrooms in the rooms, no A/C, no security inside or outside the building, no fridge or microwave in the room, no outlets by the beds, and some of the outlets didn't event work. Instead, my boyfriend and I had a small room, had to use the communal bathrooms and showers, and had to hope our phones charged. The area was convenient for where we needed to go, but the morning we checked out there were hundreds of people selling likely stolen goods and literal bags of weed and mushrooms right outside the building. I will never stay here again, and I would not recommend anyone stay here, especially if you are coming to SF alone.

They never said they'd ignore all of my communications (by text, phone and app despite them having my correct phone number). Though their website said I could, they never responded if I could check out late or extend my stay another day - because they ignored all my correspondence. The check-in text allowing me access to the room didn't come till two hours after the stated check-in time. They never said before booking that downloading an app was required. It was a good price, and one of few hotels in the neighborhood.

The second I walked in the door I felt comfortable and welcomed. This place is so accommodating! You can see how much work they've put into making this place beautiful with lots of complimentary perks. When we were greeted we were offered snacks, coffee, and tea. Omar, who checked us in, gave us a tour of where our room was and where the showers/restrooms are located. There are seating areas by the windows that allow you a work space or chill relaxing area. There is a balcony area if you'd like to be outside as well. Omar did a great job of showing us around and explaining how things work at Nineteen 06 Mission. Location, location, location! This is so close to restaurants, bars, clubs, and transportation! I absolutely love that they are in such a great place. The rooms are clean, modern, spacious, and cute! This is a very affordable hotel for the location. Breakfast is included as well! The only downfalls I can see are if you can't walk up stairs and if you want your own private bathroom/shower. For me this wasn't a deal breaker as I was only there for one night. I would definitely stay here again. Check this amazing hotel out for excellent service!

I cannot tell if these other reviews are fake or what but I absolutely hated my stay here. I booked two nights and ended up leaving early because of how much I hated my stay. first off 1906 mission is located in a super dangerous area. I knew that before booking but I just assumed that it wasn't that bad. ITS AWFUL. as soon as I arrived I was catcalled and almost mugged by homeless men outside. The entire check in process was easy I just had to download an app and scan the front door and there is nobody in the lobby. The room... oh my god cant even explain how awful. The room was tiny just a bed a tiny desk and very small closet. there is no fan and it was super hot the entire time there. there was no microwave no fridge, nothing that usually comes in a hotel/motel. The bathroom situation oh my God I knew that shared bathrooms was what I was getting into however they were pretty gross smelly the entire hotel honestly does smell like weed but especially the bathrooms the showers looked really modern but that's the only good thing I could say. The toilets are in a tiny stall lake bathroom that smelled like piss.... overall I left early I was incredibly hot my entire stay and there was no AC the bathroom situation just did not help in the tiny room just made me feel claustrophobic. I paid so much for two nights and I did not get to enjoy it because it was not worth the location or any of the experience. STAY AWAY FROM 1906 MISSION!!!!!!

It's actually too bad Yelp doesn't offer a negative star option -- as someone who has worked in customer service for nearly two decades, I've never experienced such horrifically awful service -- luckily, we didn't even have to go through with booking to find this out. My fiance and I are in the process of setting up hotel blocks for our guest for our wedding. I reached out to 1906 to ask if this was a service they offered (not even a discount request, simply a request to see if we would be able to block off rooms for our guests to reserve) and if so, could they let us know how many rooms we could put on hold. The response back was unprofessional at best. I responded that we would pass, as we'd like our guests to stay at a hotel that shows them a basic level of courtesy, and in the interest of honesty, I was less than polite in my response to their rudeness. Whomever was in charge of responding to their email/contact form on 3/12/19 should absolutely be fired, at the very least. And if you're looking to stay in the area -- look LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE. Every other hotel we've spoken to has been kind and courteous, even when they could not accommodate us. I've attached photos of the exchange to show the complete lack of professionalism and courteousness by exhibited by this hotel's staff.

I wanted to give 4.5 stars but as we know Yelp doesn't have half star reviews. This hotel is 1 block away from the 16th and Mission Bart station, so close! Only problem was the walk from the Bart station to the hotel had some pretty sketchy people. This is the only complaint I had about this hotel. The hotel itself was almost like an oasis from the street outside. Everything was spotless and the front desk staff was so helpful and interesting to talk to. We felt very welcome and we're impressed by the low key vibe of the hotel. Although the restrooms and showering area were shared, we never ran into a problem of not having an available restroom or shower. The areas were so clean and they provide and robe and slippers so the walk through the hallway isn't awkward. The breakfast was simple but nice, cereal, muffins, bagels, fruit, and yogurt. There were teas, coffee, and hot chocolate. Depending on your room you can maybe hear the Bart rolling by at night, but it wasn't unbearable by any means. This hotel is located really close to some awesome restaurants along Valencia and Guerrero and a 15 minute walk to the famous Dolores Park. I would stay here agin.

Be aware when booking that it's a hostel and has shared restrooms and showers. If you know that going in, you will enjoy your stay here. It's completely updated and modern and most importantly, clean! I was in a room on the street so it did get a bit noisy at night, but once I fell asleep it wasn't an issue. Not sure how the rooms towards the back of the building are--I'd imagine quieter. Bathrooms and showers were clean even though they were shared. I didn't encounter many other guests during my visit and the place itself seemed pretty quiet. This place probably wouldn't be my first choice due to the bathroom situation--I liked to have my own bathroom due to digestive issues. But I would stay again if I needed a clean place to stay in SF.

Had a great time at 1906. Highly recommended to all if you're trying to save a little cash and don't plan on staying in the hotel much. The shared bathrooms are clean and very nice. The outdoor patio is also very nice. The only downside is the street noise all night... not the very best area, but nice enough.

Fantastic new (and amazingly affordable) hotel on Mission! Found this place on booking.com due to great reviews (and at nearly the last minute) before a 10 night trip to San Francisco. Owners completely gutted the building ("down to the studs" as described by the front desk), then opened in August 2014. Everything is clean, fresh, stylish - staff friendly & helpful. Caution for some: front desk on floor 2, rooms on floors 2 and above - no elevators. Shared bathrooms and shared showers (everything sparkling clean including soft white towels). I have no problem with those "negatives" so this place is perfect - because I would rather have new & clean over convenience any day. Comfy bed & pillow. Basic continental breakfast in the morning (coffee, tea, juice, bagels, muffins, cereal, yogurt - and fantastic fresh fruit). Perfectly suitable to this incredibly affordable hotel.

I loved this place. We stayed there for 3 nights and we loved: - the neighborhood and proximity of the BART (1 block away) - the bright and clean rooms - the spotless bathrooms - the friendly and helpful staff, open for discussion and mindful of your personal situation - the simple but delicious breakfasts - the umbrella's at disposal Thanks!

This is a great place to stay while in San Francisco. It is clean clean clean, and the service is very friendly and accommodating. My husband wasn't sure at first about the shared showers/bathrooms, but they are all very private and clean as well, so we had zero issues with them during our stay. Everything felt safe inside, though it's not on a street I would recommend being out on late at night.

When we got off the BART me and my gf thought we had made a mistake due to the sketchy block im which the hostel is located, however the moment we stepped in 1906 mission we knew we had made the right choice for our 9 day stay. We were welcomed by Wesley, the manager, he is a very nice person, he showed us the place in detail and gave us all the basics and answered all of our inquires, he even let us check in earlier. Everything was tidy and clean, other guests were nice as well as the staff, they were friendly and always willing to provide help. The daily continental breakfast was a plus that we didn't expect. The location is fantastic. There are homeless people and the neighborhood might feel dangerous at night but we never had any issues during our night walks. Next time we visit SF we'll stay here.

Wonderful affordable little gem of a hotel that was perfect for me on a recent visit with family. My hotel needs are pretty simple: comfy bed, low noise environment, clean bathroom with lots of fresh towels. 1906 Mission met my requirements and then some. Pros: * Warm and friendly staff -- the young man who greeted me on arrival helped me get acquainted with my room and the hotel amenities, and made sure I had what I needed during my stay. Other staff I met during my stay were always ready to exchange a friendly hello. * Complimentary bathrobe & slippers. Super-helpful and so glad these were available in light of shared bathrooms. * Nicely done breakfast & refreshments. In the morning, basics like bagels & muffins, juice & milk, jam & butter. In the afternoon & evenings, fresh fruit waters, teas, and cookies. The fruit water & cookies were perfect for winding down after a really late night. * Pristine clean bathrooms -- Bathrooms (showers & W/C) were ALWAYS clean and well-stocked with fresh clean towels. Also, fellow travellers were really good about "leaving no trace" to keep the bathrooms nice. Showers were beautiful, huge, well-appointed & easy to get in & get out. I liked having the shower spray on the shelf, so I could do my part in cleaning for the next guy. W/C had a sink so it was nice to just brush my teeth & wash my face without taking over the shower room. * Clean, comfy no-frills room. The basic color palette & minimalist decor was instantly calming for me after a long day of travel. My room had a window so I appreciated the natural light during the day. * Super-comfy bed. So comfy I didn't remember closing my eyes until I woke up again the next day. * Secure entry. Hotel key card unlocks the front door -- super-helpful when you're out & about after 11pm. * Super-cute outdoor area. I loved being able to hang out here early in the morning, before anyone else was out, and listen to the city sounds. A great spot for getting ready for the day before I headed out. Not-so-pros: * No elevator & narrow stairs. These weren't a problem for me, because I just had a carry-on bag with me. But I don't think I'd be able to negotiate the front entry stairs or the stairs to my third-floor room with a full-size suitcase. If I stay here again for longer, I'll probably bring a big backpack and leave the draggable bags at home. * Hard to find from the street. I had to walk up & down the street a few times before I finally saw the front door. The hotel provides directions & Google Maps was trying to be helpful, but I had to literally stand in front of the door in order to see it. Other than the number "1906" there's no indicator of the place & the exterior colors make it easy (for me) to overlook it, even from across the street. This place is truly a treasure that I'll be returning to the next time I'm in SF.

We spent four days in this hotel and had a lovely experience. The walk from the BART station is quick but takes you through a bit of a sketchy area, but don't let this deter you. The staff really makes this place feel like a home! The staff is very kind and helpful and keeps the place clean. Gluten free and vegan breakfast options were mentioned in an email after we booked, but if you're vegan you may be stuck with dry cereal or plain fruit. But the fruit is wonderful, so we just started our day with fruit and coffee and then went out for breakfast. If you're gluten free there is fruit and yogurt and probably one cereal option. We felt it was a little pricey for the small room size and lack of having your own bathroom, but they do keep the facilities very clean. We did run into a problem of the showers being full on our last day but other than that it wasn't really a problem. We definitely recommend this neighborhood! There's great restaurants and bars within walking distance and it's so convenient to the BART.

We just got here and there were a few miscommunications in advance booking but they quickly managed and made everything better. They are so nice and extremely clean.

This is a great spot! The room was clean and very nicely decorated. There are several bathrooms and showers that guests share, and every one is very clean with modern fixtures. The staff is exceptionally friendly, and a delicious breakfast was provided in the morning. Great place!

Worst customer experience ever! Would never in a million years recommend this place to anyone. Misrepresented the accommodations - the place is not what it seems. For those looking for a quality stay, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
