The Best Hotels in Lisbon, From Bairro Alto to Chiado | Condé Nast Traveler
"Across from seafood icon Cervejaria Ramiro, this imposing 20th-century corner landmark delivers big on style without the big price tag—one of Lisbon’s nicest affordable stays—after a 2019 transformation that wove Portuguese artworks into its original nooks. I appreciate the thoughtful details: a warming green-and-purple palette, black face towels for makeup, and staff who greet you by name. Rooms are distinctive—from “Square Rooms” over lively Largo do Intendente to three “Attic Rooms” with a private lobby (book separately or together)—and the splurge-worthy “King of Dome” suite unlocks the emblematic dome for a memorably special stay." - Abigail Malbon

We recently stayed at the 1908 Lisboa Hotel and had an incredible experience. We had an overnight flight and landed early in the morning and they accommodated an early check in so we could freshen up after a long night of travel before exploring the city. The breakfast was fantastic and we loved the ambiance of the restaurant where breakfast was served. The staff were extremely helpful in showing us how to navigate public transit and helping us plan our city explorations. They upgraded our room free of charge, and it was beautiful, spacious, and clean. All to say, we only have wonderful things to say about this hotel and would go back in a heartbeat.

As a sometimes solo traveler it is important for me to feel comfortable in the places I stay. I arrived to the hotel after an especially frustrating journey and Andre, at the front desk, greeted me with a warm smile and made me feel right at ease. In my room I was welcomed with a local sampling of their renowned pastry, Patel de Mara and local cherry liquor. The included buffet breakfast in the morning was delicious and the choices were plentiful! Staff were friendly and helpful whenever I had questions (or asked for more of the complimentary cherry liquor lol). The bed was comfortable, the rooms clean and although I faced a busy street, had sound proof shutters that opened up to a pleasant balcony to let in the fresh air. Walkable to many sites, otherwise very accessible to public transportation or Uber. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

From checkin to checkout, the entire staff provided exceptional service and hospitality. The hotel is located in “old town” which provided the perfect landscape as we explored the city of Lisbon as first timers. A special shout out to Catarina. Her bright smile and warm personality made our stay more enjoyable.

We spent 3 nights here on a recent trip to Portugal. The architecture of the building creates anticipation as you walk to the front door. Although this is a smaller hotel compared to the larger brands, this hotel carries it's weight. We were upgraded to larger king room. The rooms are well appointed with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The staff were always smiling and willing to assist. Breakfast was delicious and included items you could order off a menu as well as typical European breakfast buffet selections. There is easy access to the metro and historic sites are nearby. We loved it and would recommend this to anyone looking for a unique lodging experience in Lisbon.

I stayed here for 5 nights while visiting Lisbon for the first time. This was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at! Huge shout out to the ladies at the front desk, as well as the breakfast staff. You all went above and beyond and customer service was 10/10.
