I went there with a large group of friends for dinner, so we were put in their private room, which was nicely designed with a large wine rack. What initially drew us to try this place was the very nice interior design, the tiling on the wall is really unique, as well as, the layout of the two-story restaurant. However, considering the prominent foody-centric area it is in, I was greatly disappointed by the quality of my meal.
The prices are higher than all the surrounding restaurants, and my main issue is with the portioning and overall presentation and selection they serve considering this unnecessarily inflated cost. I ate with a large group, so we ordered a fair number of dishes from the menu. Unfortunately, none of us really enjoyed our dishes. I order the roasted chicken, which was relatively well-seasoned, but simultaneously rather dry. I was particularly underwhelmed by this chicken as a frequent-poultry-eater. I cannot stress enough that if you are looking for quality chicken, I would suggest you try out Yardbird instead (or any other restaurant, for that matter).
It is often said that it is hard to mess up pizza, but alas, the pizzas had a soggy tomato-base, and the crusts were unmistakably burnt. As their most filling and most commonly-ordered dish, this is not worth your time nor money. My friends ordered pasta dishes and were not even full after dinner. This left them annoyed and hungry. Their high prices combined with their lackluster execution left for an unamusing evening. I would not recommend ordering the ravioli or gnocchi, as they will leave you hungry and unimpressed in terms of ingredients, cookery, and diversity. In the end, we had to order two more pizzas for the table to share. Contrarily, I found that their wine selection is fairly extensive, which draws in a fair amount of the restaurants business, but that also makes the bar area very crowded and loud.
Having said that, the food was not necessarily that bad, but the portion-size and quality of food for that price was disappointing. The pricing is close to that of Carbone, but the dishes there are of a much higher quality and extremely filling. So, if you're looking for a more authentic fine dining Italian experience, I would recommend splurging at Carbone instead. If you're looking for something in a similar price range, however, I would suggest trying out Motorino's for pizza and Pici or Ciao Chow for pasta. All these restaurants may not measure up in aesthetics, but at least they have better tasting and more authentic Italian food.
