Most of our three or four visits here have been 4-star, and we willingly drive an hour to have lunch. The most recent, about 8/19/21 at 3:00PM, was only 3-star.
The positives: It's the only sit-down restaurant on the highway from Espanola to Chama, NM. They are open all day, so when you're through sightseeing or just want an off-hours lunch or dinner, you're welcome. The general ambiance is very nice, if a bit artsy-touristy (Georgia O'Keefe country, with$5000-20,000 sculptures offered in the front garden), within the Abiquiu Inn. The menu is sophisticated, NOT "Mexican," but NEW Mexican. (There's a delightful difference.) The featured cold avocado-cucumber soup is outstanding, and almost everything else is good to wonderful.
The negatives: Our hostess/waitress was blasé and cool until time to pay the check and leave a tip. Her mask was down around her neck most of the time, even indoors. (We dined on the patio during Covid delta-vatiant times.) Service was a bit slow, both initially and for our food. The highway noise is substantial, and flies are often a problem indoors (common even in very nice northern NM restaurants). The prices are high, though not exorbitant for rural fancy dining.
