Cute Aussie breakfast spot in NYC! The SoHo location we visited is small, with only 12-14 tables for two, so be aware if you're traveling with baggage. We arrived upon their opening time at 9am and there were 2 other parties also waiting to be seated. Upon entering the restaurant, we noticed it was very cold inside (it was 27 degrees F outside) and the servers were all wearing hats, scarves and coats. Midway through our meal, the restaurant became only slightly warmer, but still considerably chilly.
I ordered the Shrimp Pasta as my entree, and my sister had the Egg breakfast with a side of grilled chicken. The spaghetti in the Shrimp Pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the cream sauce was not too salty. The dish comes with five decent sized shrimp, spinach, grape tomatoes (cut in halves), topped with breadcrumbs and mixed in a cream sauce. The portion size was appropriate for the price point given the location and the size and number of shrimp in the dish. As for the Egg breakfast (not pictured), it comes with 3 eggs prepared to your liking, a spinach (uncooked) salad, and two pieces of toast. The breakfast dish looked pretty standard, so don't expect anything special if you order this. After finishing my pasta, I tasted a piece of the grilled chicken (breast meat cut into 4 small pieces). Considering it was 15-20 minutes into our meal, the side of grilled chicken tasted like it had come straight out of the refrigerator (because the inside the restaurant was so cold) and was very dry, making it difficult to eat. I'd probably recommend skipping the chicken, or at least eating it right away, so you don't have to worry about it getting cold or too dry (if the inside of the restaurant is as cold as it was today).
Overall, I will definitely be returning here next time I'm visiting the Big Apple for more Shrimp Pasta (and to try their other pasta dishes)! Although this restaurant group is known as an Australian breakfast spot, the fact that they serve lunch dishes (pasta, burgers, bowls and salads) at 9am (and breakfast until 4pm) is very appealing to me because I love pasta enough to eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Stop by if you get a chance - it's worth a visit! (Note that they only take reservations at their other locations in East Village, West Village and Murray Hill; you can only walk-in at their SoHo location).
