I had a wonderful stay at 23 LoveLane! From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. The heritage building is beautifully preserved with a charming mix of old-world character and modern comfort.||My room was spacious, clean, and tastefully decorated with antique touches that reflect the history of the property. I especially loved the peaceful courtyard and the cozy library lounge — perfect for a quiet read after exploring the town.||Truly a boutique hotel with heart. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates heritage, comfort, and personalized service. Will definitely return!

It has a strong sense of art and taste — the paintings on the walls and the furniture and decor all seem to have been carefully selected, showing the thoughtful attention given to the interior design. The building itself is nearly 200 years old and has been meticulously restored. There’s even a booklet in the lobby detailing the architectural and historical features of the house.||The spatial design is fantastic — there’s a garden, a flower-covered staircase, and the rooms are spacious, bright, and clean. The bathroom even has two sinks.||Breakfast at the hotel is great — you can choose between local nasi lemak or a Western-style breakfast. There’s also complimentary afternoon tea (the yellow tapioca cake was delicious, though it’s not served every day). After a long walk, it’s wonderful to come back, relax with some tea and snacks, and read a book.||The staff are polite, attentive, and responsive — always ready to help. We arrived in the morning, and they let us check in at 11 a.m., which was very kind.||The hotel’s two cats are absolutely adorable.||The location is convenient — there’s even a Michelin-recognized Nyonya restaurant nearby. Unfortunately, there was a wedding going on when we visited, so we didn’t get to try it.||You can occasionally hear cars passing by, but it doesn’t affect sleep.

I stayed in Penang for work for a week. |Rather than in an anonymous business hotel, I chose to stay at 23 Love Lane. |I could not have enjoyed my stay any more! From first to last minute, it was a treat.||A tranquil, quiet, reflective, & simply beautiful boutique hotel full of eclectic antiques. The room was spacious and beautifully furnished, the bed was comfy, the many seating areas throughout the hotel invite to relax and absolutely all staff were incredibly nice and helpful - including the reception cat! ||Looking forward to my next trip to Penang and stay at 23 Love Lane.

The hotel: a heritage small hotel; beautifully decorated and maintained with attention to detail. The location: perfect! Just some 100m from a very lively part of the city, but we never had issues with the noise from the street. The breakfast: à la carte (apart from the french toast everything else is savoury) and a small basic buffet. It was OK. The High tea: every afternoon, complimentary for the guests, with many small delicacies. The owners: friendly, smiley and helpful. Our Eclectic Straights room: large and comfortable with a huge bed! Loved the decor. The bathroom was unusually big with plenty of toiletries and fresh white towels, daily. BUT, the shower area in the bathroom needs a serious refurbishing as the black mould has really been expanding!.. And this is the reason, I am removing one star. It is a pity that when so much care is put on this monumental building, the cleanliness in the bathroom goes kind of unattended...

I moved here because my previous accomodation was too noisy at night with loud music from surrounding night spots. This place is a relaxed and comfortable oasis, a stone’s throw from the vibrant night life of Love Lane and Chulia St. Suggested improvements would include the installation of more power points and provision of water tumblers. Highly recommend this charming villa.

My husband and I had an absolutely amazing stay at 23 Love Lane. Due to our travel schedule, we arrived several hours before check-in, and the hotel staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. They graciously stored our luggage while we explored the area and even prepared our room so we could check in early.||The hotel itself is housed in a beautifully restored colonial-era building, seamlessly blending British, Indian, and Chinese influences. Every detail reflects the owners’ passion for heritage, from the antique furnishings to the contemporary artwork adorning the walls. Our room was a delightful mix of mid-century modern pieces, rich wooden floors, and an incredibly comfortable, oversized bed—simply perfect.||The location is great, right in the heart of George Town, with easy access to the city's famous street art, restaurants, Chinatown, Little India, historic jetties, and the esplanade. While it’s in a bustling area, the hotel’s lush gardens provide a peaceful retreat. We loved spending time there, reading and enjoying the company of Orange and Mac, the resident cats.||Breakfast was a lovely start to each day, simple yet delicious, beginning with a continental spread followed by à la carte options. One of the most delightful surprises was the complimentary high tea at 4 PM, featuring an assortment of sweet and savory treats that we thoroughly enjoyed.||The staff at 23 Love Lane were wonderful, always welcoming, attentive, and ready to assist with anything we needed. Their warm hospitality made our stay even more special.||We are beyond thrilled with our choice to stay here and will undoubtedly book again when we return to Penang. Highly recommended!

Went to the old part of Georgetown for sightseeing and discovered this beautiful boutique hotel. It is located nicely at Love Lane just in the middle of an area with bars and restaurants well known for its trendy nightlife. I will surely stay here next time when I am in Penang.

Oh my goodness, I'm still dreaming about our mornings in 23 LoveLane's leafy courtyard! My daughter would squeal with delight watching the colorful fish dart around the little pond while my son counted them in whispers. The entire hotel feels like stepping into a storybook - all these gorgeous wooden beams, vintage furniture, and soft natural light streaming through the windows.||After a hot day exploring murals (just around the corner!), the peaceful atmosphere wrapped around us like a cool breeze. The kids sprawled on the rug in our spacious room, drawing pictures of what they'd seen while I leafed through old books from the little library nook.||What touched my heart was how the staff noticed my son loved mangoes and brought him extra slices during breakfast without being asked. My camera couldn't stop capturing little moments - my daughter's fascination with the antique telephone, the way shadows played across colonial-era walls, the quiet joy of sipping afternoon tea together while rain pattered outside. So different from the modern glass towers of Kuala Lumpur - this place has soul.

Yelp
Summary based on one night stay: Great location in a beautiful heritage property with very nice grounds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Got an upgrade to one of the best suite rooms and, frankly, it will be hard to stay anywhere else. Quiet, good aircon and wifi. Stairs for some rooms with no lift. Very good breakfast in adjoining restaurant. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This is a quaint hotel, with a warm, rustic feel. The rooms, which are somewhat comfortably scattered on various levels and in various parts of the hotel space, are spacious and airy, with high ceilings and plenty of seating. (At least mine was, as well the other two that I saw. [Coincidentally, my room appeared to be the same room that Rich H. was in, based on his pictures.]) The decor is warm and comfortable; I had cool modern street-style art in my room, contrasting with the old, weathered-looking furnishings, reminding me of Penang's uniqueness even while I was inside. The bed was on the firm side to me, but it was not too bad. As the hotel is surrounded by other buildings, I generally left my windows closed and enjoyed the thoroughly efficient a/c. Open though, you get the sights, sounds, and smells (mostly positive!) of the city right outside your room. The hotel has lots of open-air spaces, most of which are covered, although there are a few uncovered areas as well; there is plenty of seating throughout the shared spaces. The hotel's location is excellent -- an easy walk from numerous sights and restaurants. The street it's on can be a little tight as busy periods as it's narrow and there isn't really a sidewalk, but the drivers seemed conscientious and there didn't seem to be a problem during my wanderings back and forth. The staff members are wonderfully friendly and attentive.

Yelp
This hotel is in the heart of all the action in George town. The hotel is small but packs a big punch when it comes to service, charm and comfort. Our room was big and comfortable. It had a lot of impersonality. The lay out of all the rooms was great because we did not hear a thing. The afternoon tea and being able to help our selves to water or soda pop was very nice.
