The hotel: a heritage small hotel; beautifully decorated and maintained with attention to detail. The location: perfect! Just some 100m from a very lively part of the city, but we never had issues with the noise from the street. The breakfast: à la carte (apart from the french toast everything else is savoury) and a small basic buffet. It was OK. The High tea: every afternoon, complimentary for the guests, with many small delicacies. The owners: friendly, smiley and helpful. Our Eclectic Straights room: large and comfortable with a huge bed! Loved the decor. The bathroom was unusually big with plenty of toiletries and fresh white towels, daily. BUT, the shower area in the bathroom needs a serious refurbishing as the black mould has really been expanding!.. And this is the reason, I am removing one star. It is a pity that when so much care is put on this monumental building, the cleanliness in the bathroom goes kind of unattended...

We absolutely loved our stay at 23 Love Lane. The location is excellent - near cafes, restaurants and art shops, and a bustling hawker market. The hotel is an oasis of calm, with beautiful gardens and spaces to relax. The rooms are enormous, and the wonderful staff are highly attentive. Special shout out to Janet and Nick, who could not have been more welcoming. High Tea is served every afternoon, which is a great chance to try delicacies from the market. Breakfast has a great choice of western and Asian dishes, alongside toast, fruits and cheese. The best hotel we have ever stayed in. Thank you everyone for such a memorable stay!

Incredible stay. The hotel structure itself is beautiful and the ambiance is very inviting. The room was spacious comfortable rooms. Location is prime walking distance to all the hot spots in Georgetown. Breakfast was thoughtful and delicious. Finally, the hotel staff, particularly Amer, are incredibly welcoming, warm, and make you feel so comfortable & safe during your stay. My only wish is that we had stayed longer!

I stayed at this charming hotel when I visited Penang recently. I have walked past the entrance a couple of times before and loved it, so I made a promise that I would stay here when I pop by again. The room is spacious and full of light. I love the bright, cheerful hues on every spread, cushion, rug, and throw! The owner seemed to be an avid art collector because there are interesting pieces found throughout the property. The service was great. I was greeted warmly, and they made me feel at home. Most importantly, for me, the sheets and linen were crisp and clean. I love the quiet vibe here! They serve a complimentary afternoon tea, and it's a spread of local delights.

A central boutique hotel that has been beautifully renovated. It has a lovely cool colonial feel. It is in easy walking distance to all the Georgetown sights. The atmosphere of the hotel is lovely, with several pleasant spaces to sit and relax. The garden is gorgeous and deserves a special mention. There is a great afternoon tea offered every day with local specialities included. Breakfast is also included.|Staff were keen to please and very helpful.

Delightful stay! Sara,Janet and all the staff were helpful and did everything to make our stay easy and comfortable. From suggesting local places to visit, providing umbrellas, organising a taxi to the airport and arranging an early breakfast so we could catch an early flight, nothing was any trouble. A gem of a hotel.

This charming boutique hotel captures Georgetown's historic essence, blending comfort with colonial charm. The immaculately maintained rooms feature pristine linens and traditional architecture with high ceilings, creating a cool atmosphere throughout. Located strategically in Georgetown's heritage zone, it's walking distance to attractions like Khoo Kongsi and Street Art. The area offers diverse dining options from hawker stalls to upscale restaurants. The hotel's dining experience includes a full breakfast with local and Western options, plus an afternoon tea service featuring house-made treats.

Updated Review: The staff realized there was a booking error and corrected it in a timely manner. Thank you for that! Original Review: I'm actually extremely disappointed with this hotel. The staff were nice, but we initially booked a 4 night stay in the Anglo-Indian room, but on arrival was given a Jackdoor room which had barred windows, a tv remote that didn't work, a clogged, sink, and frosted windows (so you can't look outside). This was a bummer because during the humidity of the day, staying indoors (with the ac) was ideal, except you feel trapped b/c of the window situation. Also the room could have used a new coat of paint as there were stains all over the walls... not what we expected at all.

Yelp
Summary based on one night stay: Great location in a beautiful heritage property with very nice grounds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Got an upgrade to one of the best suite rooms and, frankly, it will be hard to stay anywhere else. Quiet, good aircon and wifi. Stairs for some rooms with no lift. Very good breakfast in adjoining restaurant. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This is a quaint hotel, with a warm, rustic feel. The rooms, which are somewhat comfortably scattered on various levels and in various parts of the hotel space, are spacious and airy, with high ceilings and plenty of seating. (At least mine was, as well the other two that I saw. [Coincidentally, my room appeared to be the same room that Rich H. was in, based on his pictures.]) The decor is warm and comfortable; I had cool modern street-style art in my room, contrasting with the old, weathered-looking furnishings, reminding me of Penang's uniqueness even while I was inside. The bed was on the firm side to me, but it was not too bad. As the hotel is surrounded by other buildings, I generally left my windows closed and enjoyed the thoroughly efficient a/c. Open though, you get the sights, sounds, and smells (mostly positive!) of the city right outside your room. The hotel has lots of open-air spaces, most of which are covered, although there are a few uncovered areas as well; there is plenty of seating throughout the shared spaces. The hotel's location is excellent -- an easy walk from numerous sights and restaurants. The street it's on can be a little tight as busy periods as it's narrow and there isn't really a sidewalk, but the drivers seemed conscientious and there didn't seem to be a problem during my wanderings back and forth. The staff members are wonderfully friendly and attentive.

Yelp
This hotel is in the heart of all the action in George town. The hotel is small but packs a big punch when it comes to service, charm and comfort. Our room was big and comfortable. It had a lot of impersonality. The lay out of all the rooms was great because we did not hear a thing. The afternoon tea and being able to help our selves to water or soda pop was very nice.
