11 ways to enjoy Penang on your next visit - SilverKris

"A small boutique heritage hotel that celebrates Penang’s five architectural periods, offering about ten rooms and suites that showcase pre-war shophouse façades, the eclectic colours of the Straits and Anglo-Indian interiors; situated at the tail end of Love Lane, it places guests steps away from abundant cafes, street food and nightlife." - SilverKris

This hotel is a wonderful option for those who want a great location, a rich variety of art on the walls, history and, most important, wonderful support. The team at the hotel helped in every possible way, from helping plan each day to arranging for a beach swim at their sister hotel 20 minutes to the west, and from helpinh with snacks and food to guiding us on our culinary journey in Georgetown. The room was large and the bed very comfortable. And the large patio and garden areas gave us plenty of space to read a book or work.

We have traveled and stayed in Penang many times, it is place that we love to come back to time and time again, it’s like home, usually we stay at a different place each time. Here at 23 Love Lane we have found our home in Penang, and we are coming back. |The place has the most beautiful feel to it. We stayed for over a week and often spent time sitting in the breezeway, talking to staff, the people who would walk in curious about the beautiful building, other guests or just reading a book. Or even sampling the delightful afternoon tea. It was so much fun trying food I haven’t tried before, especially when I had thought I had tried pretty much most things! It is quiet and yet super close to street food, amazing stores, really good cafes & the sights and sounds of old George Town. |The place is full of brilliant art and furniture & is fabulously quirky in style, a great mix of retro & modern. Breakfast is cooked fresh to order and the roti is highly recommended. We tried out the restaurant as well, the steak was excellent & very enjoyable.|We really appreciated the care and support from the staff, my darling dude can’t do stairs so they had us in a HUGE room on the ground floor which made life easy for getting around. The air conditioning and fans were a gift as we were still adjusting to the warmth after leaving a very cold home. ||A huge thanks to the staff for being so kind and considerate when my uncle got sick when we were there. That’s the reason this review is so late!||I don’t usually do reviews, but this place deserves it. ||Tips - if you want to go to the Blue Mansion. Book before you come, it’s hard to get into.|Make sure you put the Grab App on your phone & set it up before you leave home.

A very atmospheric and homely hotel surrounded by lush greenery. Beautiful rooms with tons of period and local details. Also a very interesting library where you can pick a book on Penang and read up on the history of the nearby grand dynasty houses while lying on the rattan recliners. Amazing team, made us feel very welcome. We started missing it the moment we left.

We spent four days here in December 2025 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent, and the hotel itself is charming, intimate, and authentically styled—far from the impersonal feel of a typical international chain. Every detail is thoughtfully designed with care and love. The service is outstanding, with genuine, personal attention offered at exactly the right moments. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and free of mosquitoes, and the breakfast was delightful.

Beautifully renovated house (boutique hotel now) with really interesting original artworks everywhere, and each room with different, colourful decoration and period furniture. They have apparently added a couple of houses nearby; I was at the original house. Lovely garden, lovely seating area at lobby and lounge. Excellent teatime with delicious nyonya cakes, excellent restaurant next door (belongs to them and breakfast is served there, too). Above all, we had a super friendly and helpful staff member (young lady) at front desk who we enjoyed chatting with and who gave us excellent recommendations, (without pushing anything on us.) The location is very central yet calm. Will be going back, for sure!

Lovely hotel, clean, traditional and beautiful garden and communal spaces in the middle of a town. We were warmly welcomed by Janet who showed us around. The hotel has an eclectic but well put together collection of furniture and bits. The aircon worked brilliantly and the room was spacious, lovely bathroom amenities and great smelling shower gel. The hotel gates when shut have a ‘secret garden’ effect which really makes you feel like you’re hidden away from the world. The location is brilliant, we walked from the ferry port and it took 15mins, it’s on the same street as some of the bars but you’re far enough away that there’s no noise disturbance at all. You leave your keys with them when you go out so they know you’re back - as a female traveller that made me feel incredibly safe and there was indeed a gentleman waiting on the porch at just after 1am. I have no idea if they stay there all night, but it’s reassuring. The breakfast offering was great, French Toast was lovely. We were supposed to be in George Town for 2 nights, but we wanted to do a couple of extra tours in Langkawi, so whilst out for drinks we opted to bring our trip forward and left the next morning. We didn’t really have much of a chance to speak to her about this ahead of leaving so we did abruptly check out - so sorry that was so rude of us, we rushed as we overslept. Janet messaged me as soon as breakfast service had finished to check everything was ok. A sign of a hotelier that cares very much about their guests and their service. We’d book there again in a heartbeat.

incredibly lovely staff and service, i felt just at home and taken care of! this is definitely not your typical luxury hotel; the facilities work but are not top notch, furniture is comfortable but old. if you have any complaints, however, staff are very willing to meet your needs as best as possible! if you are looking for a no frills, down-to-earth experience living in a heritage area + meeting new people (and cats!), this is the place for you. i will definitely be back!

Yelp
Summary based on one night stay: Great location in a beautiful heritage property with very nice grounds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Got an upgrade to one of the best suite rooms and, frankly, it will be hard to stay anywhere else. Quiet, good aircon and wifi. Stairs for some rooms with no lift. Very good breakfast in adjoining restaurant. Highly recommended.

Yelp
This is a quaint hotel, with a warm, rustic feel. The rooms, which are somewhat comfortably scattered on various levels and in various parts of the hotel space, are spacious and airy, with high ceilings and plenty of seating. (At least mine was, as well the other two that I saw. [Coincidentally, my room appeared to be the same room that Rich H. was in, based on his pictures.]) The decor is warm and comfortable; I had cool modern street-style art in my room, contrasting with the old, weathered-looking furnishings, reminding me of Penang's uniqueness even while I was inside. The bed was on the firm side to me, but it was not too bad. As the hotel is surrounded by other buildings, I generally left my windows closed and enjoyed the thoroughly efficient a/c. Open though, you get the sights, sounds, and smells (mostly positive!) of the city right outside your room. The hotel has lots of open-air spaces, most of which are covered, although there are a few uncovered areas as well; there is plenty of seating throughout the shared spaces. The hotel's location is excellent -- an easy walk from numerous sights and restaurants. The street it's on can be a little tight as busy periods as it's narrow and there isn't really a sidewalk, but the drivers seemed conscientious and there didn't seem to be a problem during my wanderings back and forth. The staff members are wonderfully friendly and attentive.

Yelp
This hotel is in the heart of all the action in George town. The hotel is small but packs a big punch when it comes to service, charm and comfort. Our room was big and comfortable. It had a lot of impersonality. The lay out of all the rooms was great because we did not hear a thing. The afternoon tea and being able to help our selves to water or soda pop was very nice.
