23 St Marys Guest House

Our room was very comfortable for a family of 4. We had one king and two twin beds, and the room was spacious enough to enjoy our short excursion to York. The location was fantastic. We could walk to the train station and to the city center. The street is quiet and beautiful. The bathroom was a highlight. It was spotless and looked recently renovated. The only thing was that we never saw any adult staff on the premises. The teen girls that worked there were very nice but couldn’t answer some of our questions. It would have been nice to have had face to face interaction with the owners or adult staff. Overall, we would stay there again and give it bonus points for cleanliness.

Having stayed in and around the Bootham area previously my fiancée and myself had booked into 23 St Mary's for a Thursday night stay and it was faultless. |It is on a very nice street and the building itself is lovely. On arrival the lady was very friendly and helpful, we had arranged to just leave our bags on arrival in York late morning but luckily our room was already ready for us way before the normal check-in time which was very much appreciated. The room itself was very clean and had everything you needed and after checking out we were allowed to leave our bags until we were due to head for our train late afternoon.|A very enjoyable stay, many thanks.|

Beautiful room, great location. Had a lovely overnight during our 2 week UK trip. We stayed in the 4 poster room - bed could have been a little more comfortable (thin mattress, no boxspring), but the room is sweet and the bathroom was nice and modernized with a spacious shower. The location is unbeatable - on a lovely quiet historic street while still being super close to the train station and great walking distance to the center. Self check in was seamless and easy. Would definitely recommend!

The room was clean, pleasant and nicely decorated. It was also very quiet. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great with a good selection of hot and cold items to choose from. The location was perfect being just a short walk away from the centre of York. Would stay here again if we came back to York.

Our room was the perfect size and set up for my husband, son and me. The beds were comfortable, the room was clean and I loved the decor. Staff are so friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was delicious- staff go out of their way to prepare what you like. This is a really special place, and I’m so glad we chose to stay here!!

The location is great, the staff were helpful, and we found the room quiet. Our expectation of 4-star luxury accommodation, however, was not met. The entry hallway was bright and clean but when we passed through the door to our lower floor room we saw scuffed and flaking paint on the stairway. The rug in our room didn’t look particularly old, but there was a glob of something dirty stuck to the rug right next to the bed. The caulking in the bathroom around the sink was missing or old.

The proximity to York centre was the standout. A beautiful walk through the museum gardens brought us to a central location near the theatre and great cafes. Also close to the train station. Value for money was another prime consideration. We liked the snacks and drinks with the honesty box. |The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall it was a great experience.

The guest house was ideally situated...just a 5 minute walk through the museum gardens or a 10 minute walk along the river... Both routes are beautiful. It was my husbands birthday & Fiona & the team were so welcoming & friendly providing balloons and champagne in the room. The bed is super comfy & the place was spotlessly clean.
