Really good high quality seafood in a great location. The Scallops with Risotto was truly special. Enjoyed the fisherman’s chowder and Salmon salad as well.

I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. The dining experience we had here was divine. The food was such high quality and so skillfully prepared that every bite was a delight. We were so impressed by the talent of the chef/ kitchen team. This food made us feel warm and happy inside. Not kidding. Plus the service was really nice and helped make sure we were comfortable, satisfied, etc. Highly recommend!

Great restaurant with beautiful presentation. In fact, the presentation was even better than the food, which was still good at 4/5 stars. Nice atmosphere and service. The restrooms need more frequent attention; not the level of cleanliness expected at a place like this.

The food and service here is excellent! I think the only thing I didn't care for was how much vodka pomegranate granita was actually on the oyster. It was very over powering in flavor but otherwise it was really good. I loved sitting outside and the location was nice. If I'm ever on the West Coast again I'll be sure to add this place into my trip.

I love the food and drinks here. Sitting outside and people watching is great! I always get the spicy tuna crispy rice, a cucumber martini, and sometimes the profiteroles if I have help with me. It's a great spot if you are having a solo date or coming with a crew!

Had a pleasant dinner at 230 Forest Avenue. The atmosphere was great, and the wine selection was impressive. The pasta I ordered was tasty, though a bit heavy on the sauce. The service was a little slower than expected, but the food made up for it. I would definitely give it another try.

Prime rib dip sandwich was delicious and so was the wedge salad, they changed the salad a little since I last went but it still hit. Server offered bread than seen at the end he charged me for it... don't mind paying just felt he was being deceitful in the way he offered it. Was kinda sketchy..

This is the patio in Laguna if you want to see and be seen, ideally while pretending you just “happened” to stop by after the beach and didn’t strategically pick your outfit for it. The trees offer shade, which is nice, because otherwise you’d melt into your chair like a wax figurine. We came for “drinks and a snack” but accidentally ordered enough food to qualify as dinner for a mid-sized family. The Bacon Wrapped Dates were sticky, sweet, and impossible to eat without looking like you’re auditioning for a barbecue sauce commercial. The Spicy Tuna grazing plate comes with three pieces, but they’ll make it four if you’re with a group—because apparently they understand math and diplomacy. Also, the rice was so crispy it could probably survive re-entry from space. The Wagyu Sirloin Carpaccio was paper-thin and amazing, with truffle aioli that makes everything taste better in the same way a cheat code makes video games easier. For drinks, the Ruby Rickey was light and refreshing (i.e., you could drink several before realizing it), and the Mission Fig Margarita was the perfect choice for a hot afternoon. The servers and bussers were friendly, efficient, and had that uncanny ability to refill your water without you noticing—possibly magic. Five stars. Would come back in a heartbeat… assuming I can find a beach outfit worthy of that patio again.

Best gazpacho ever! Incredibly delicious. I had the special shrimp tacos with corn tortillas. The lemon was grilled and I used it to juice the tacos. Lots of tomatoes with red onions and cucumbers. My DIL had grilled lamb chops and the seafood chowder. The kalamata olives with the salad were good. The lamb was perfectly cooked. My son had the French Dip sandwich with a Cesar salad. Good. We ate outside. Really a perfect California seaside resort town lunch.

We came here for a birthday celebration with a group of 8 adults and 2 kids. We ordered a Passion Fruit Mocktail Spritzer, 4 Pranqster beers, the Spicy Tuna, the Butternut Squash Arancini, the Warm Parker House Rolls, the Ricotta Gnocchi, the Bolognese, the Brown Butter Scallops, the Halibut Fish N' Chips, the Broccolini, the Shishito Peppers, the Duck Fat Fingerling Potatoes, and an espresso to close out the meal.​ The menu leans rich and comforting, which worked well for sharing across a larger group. The Brown Butter Scallops were a favorite at the table. Would happily return, ideally with a little extra time to walk the surrounding streets and enjoy the area.

I've been frequenting the spot since I was in my late teens and have always enjoyed their offerings. They make a mean French onion soup and I love getting a plate (or two) of their lamb pops - although I think they just call them lamb chops on the appetizer menu now. My other favorite is the oyster plate with pomegranate granita, although the oysters are not consistent; sometimes they have the smaller petit oysters but the last time, they only had one petit and the others were larger and a little more chewy. On our most recent visit, we noticed the chops were more fat than meat so that was a little disappointing as well but the were cooked nicely. Service is usually decent, sometimes the servers seem a little less than enthused to be there but we will continue going back. Dog friendly!

Overall good food and refreshing drinks. The shrimp weren't bad but needed some additional flavor, while the dates were delicious! The cucumber cocktail was clean and perfect for lunch. The ceasar salad was a miss and lacked flavor while the 3 specialty tacos were some of the best I've had in a long time. Our server was attentive and on it for anything we needed.

Wonderful service, beautiful atmosphere, and fresh food. Myself and two others came for lunch recently, and were seated immediately. Our server was so friendly and remembered my friend from her previous visits. We started with a few drinks. I recommend the Albarino, a crisp white. I ordered the Toasted Garlic Salmon entree. The salmon had a delicious crust on top which was absolutely divine, and the salmon was cooked perfectly (medium). The quinoa had great flavor, especially with the addition of the salsa verde. I had a bite of the halibut special- it was light with good texture. The brown butter gnocchi were perfectly chewy and the brown butter in the sauce really came through. We completed our meal with the pistachio crème brûlée. Not too sweet, creamy, and flavorful.

We didn't know where we wanted to eat so we just walked around laguna and checked out their menu and was very imp by their seafood options. They also had a fish taco special which is what i got and i absolutely loved it. The fish was cooked perfectly and all the toppings paired perfectly in the taco. Their drink selection was really good and i really enjoyed their margaritas. The fish and chips were also very delicious. Our waitress was every sweet and i appreciated that she checked in on us every once in a while.

230 Forest Avenue is a superb restaurant on the main street at Laguna Beach. Located right near the beach with both indoor and outdoor seating. The hostess and our waiter were great, and they continued to check on us and fill our iced teas. We ordered the fish n chips and the chipotle lime chicken and both were great. Even our iced teas were great. We sat outdoors and had a great lunch. I highly recommend this restaurant if you visit Laguna Beach. Enjoy.

Went here with my son and husband, and this place was outstanding! Food: We started with the Calamari Kung Pao as an appetizer -- it was flavorful and perfectly cooked. My husband had the burger, which he really enjoyed -- juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. My son had the fish and chips. I had the special of the day, the Halibut, and it was absolutely outstanding -- fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. We'll definitely be coming back! Service was great

The food was not good. I ordered a kale salad and it came with no kale but when i asked if it was the correct salad they said yes and that was all, no concern as to why i would ask that. The menu never mentioned beets or carrots or cabbage yet it was filled with all that. I didnt send it back because i thought maybe i read it wrong and when i finally got a menu to check my mom had eaten some and it was too late to send it back...The salmon tasted fishy and the whole meal was bland. Have been going here on vacation for years but this whole experience ruined it we wont go back

My friend and I went for lunch and decided to split the fish and chips. The entree includes two large deep fried halibut filets, shoestring French fries along with a large helping of coleslaw, plenty of food to share. The fish was moist and cooked to perfection, the fries were crispy and delicious but the coleslaw was very salty. We sat in the outdoor patio located in the street. It is a great people watching spot. The patio is dog friendly. Our server was attentive and friendly and kept our ice teas filled.

If a man is talking in the forest, and there is no woman there to hear him, is he still wrong -- Jenny Weber I thought for sure I had added a review for 230 Forest. But I must have been wrong... And I have been here with a few different friends, mostly women because men are just wrong ;-) And over the years, it's always been consistently good. Plus sitting on the patio, lovely people watching ambiance and a view of Main Beach. Favorites on the menu include the bacon wrapped dates, wagyu carpaccio, oysters, lamb chops, onion soup, truffle fries...basically the plates for sharing. Beer list is interesting...East Bros. and North Coast are represented. Wine list is basic with a few interesting finds. Last time I was there the bottle I brought was corked so I ordered the Alpha Omega second wine and it was decent. $25 corkage. Recommended!

A nice local restaurant with really good food that is not too pretentious. One of my favorite meals in a while. Ordered the special halibut plate with potato purée, lump crab macaroni and cheese, dinner rolls and wine. The decor is eclectic, fun, and the staff were very friendly.

230 Forest Avenue is a small footprint restaurant in Laguna Beach on the main walking strip of Forest Avenue, about a block away from the beach itself. It is stacked between a number of other restaurants and has indoor seating, outdoor seating, a small bar, and additional street patio seating. As per all Laguna Beach restaurants, it can get very crowded so you sometimes have to be patient for a table. We went to 230 Forest Avenue on a Saturday evening in the summer as a date night without a reservation. We were able to be sat inside at a small table in the back within a reasonable wait time. With an open kitchen and small footprint it does get a little noisy inside, but the lighting is good and the table was spacious enough for us to have two appetizers, two drinks on it at a given time plus an entrée later. Service was polite and quick. Unfortunately the day we went, they did not have oysters, which are on the regular menu, so we substituted with Sizzling garlic shrimp and spicy tuna on crispy rice. Both of these items were fine. They could use a little more seasoning, but there was nothing wrong with them. The entrée we had was a filet mignon on cauliflower purée. The presentation was a little bit monotone, and although the peppercorn sauce was tasty, overall it also was simply fine. Nothing spectacular, and most of the items on the plate could've used a little more seasoning. For the three food items plus a glass of beer and a glass of wine dinner was a little over $120 before tip. This is not crazy high for the area but a little bit on the more expensive side. Overall, we had a nice date night dinner experience and took a lovely walk down the block and on the beach afterward. However, it is not a place we are going to put at the top of our "Need to return here" lists. Good, not great.

From the drinks... to the apps... to the meal - everything was outstanding. I feel so bad that I didn't get our servers name. He was so awesome! At the moment, I am having so many issues with food and things I have to stay away with... It's such a pain to go anywhere, let alone put that pressure on a server or a restaurant to deliver. After listing all of the foods/ingredients I need to avoid at the moment... Our server didn't miss a beat. He said he didn't think any of that was going to be a problem, and that he would help me navigate through the menu. And not in a "you should be fine" kind of way- but in a "we can absolutely make this work" kind of way. My hubby is already planning our next date night here- and believe it or not, he is harder to please than me (because he typically prefers eating at home). I love that this gem is a 15 minute drive up the beautiful coast from our home. In and around Forest Avenue is a mecca of dining destinations for just about any palate with options from the refined to the more casual. 230 Forest avenue sits above mid center and the Chef has created a bunch of menu options that are about as creative as they are tasty. For this visit, I decided to try their lighter/lunch offerings and moved forward with selections from their appetizer offerings. On this Saturday before noon, seating was easy sans a reservation and was able to dine at a table on their patio area. The staff here were extremely friendly and were extremely accommodating and helpful with prompt service. There were three items of particular interest on this occasion and my guest and I settled on: Wagyu Beef Carpaccio; Spicy Tuna Crudo and Shoestring Truffle Garlic Fries with fresh Aioli dip. Each of these items were very carefully and impressively prepared and served. My first sampling was the crudo that was very nicely displayed. The Tuna was very fresh and plentiful making it difficult to consume with a single bite. The first two that I had was a little short on the spice, but the last sampling was more to my liking. The Carpaccio came second and this item was very good both in quality and taste. It had all the accompaniments to enhance the flavor including greens, sauce, capers and cheese. They were very generous on this item as far as portions go, so be advised if you are having an entrée. The Fries were a nice, "crunch, " to enjoy with these dishes that were more refined. Cooked very well, seasoned very well and unable to finish given the portions of everything else. This combination of things for lunch or say a Happy Hour would be a great time for a fun gathering down in Laguna Beach. This area of town is a favorite location for me and I would visit more for dinner than anything else. That said, this chance to enjoy the sun and the scenery worked out well for a Saturday destination. Overall, 230 Forest Avenue is a place that I would recommend for lunch . . .I'll have to advise later once I've dined for dinner. They provide many options for many palates and have a very fun vibe for lunch or dinner. I suggest you give it a try, they care deeply about quality products, preparation and presentation. Spectacular restaurant in Laguna that has something for everyone. I'd recommend making reservations ahead of time, because it does get busy especially around dinner hours. To start, we ordered the housemade ricotta app which was amazing. Creamy and whipped ricotta served with perfectly buttery and toasted slices of bread. For the mains, I ordered the prime rib dip sandwich with truffle fries and it was nothing short of incredible. Quite possibly one of the best sandwiches I've eaten. The prime rib was thinly sliced and super tender with sweet caramelized onions all sandwiched between a french roll, served with a generous cup of jus and a mild horseradish sauce. The service was also great and food came out in a timely manner. 230 Forest Ave gets two thumbs up from me.

Visiting town and stumbled upon this place, so happy we stopped by. Ordered their fried Brussels sprouts and a cocktail. Everything was delicious and the service was nice. Would definitely come back!

This was a great dinner spot in the downtown area! Definitely busy on a Sunday night, but snagged some bar spots. Staff was attentive and super friendly. The menu has a lot of great sounding items on it and we could have ordered so many other dishes if we weren't full. Really enjoyed everything we ordered: Brussels sprouts, lump crab man n cheese, and fisherman's chowder. Brussels were perfectly crisp and had delicious flavor. Mac n cheese could have had more crab and been a tad less creamy underneath, but the flavor was great and I really liked the noodle shells. Generous portions of halibut in the chowder, which also had a great herby flavor. Would recommend for a nice dinner!

Went here a few weeks ago before seeing a show nearby and the vibe down this street was popping and I ended up eating outside which was nice to enjoy the weather and more relaxed environment Service was great and very attentive by our waiter and food was really good especially the tuna appetizer crouton things lol I am butchering the name but the food was great and everyone was very nice there I would eat here again and make another reservation

The perfect date night in Laguna Beach. This restaurant feels fancy and upscale compared to some of the other restaurants surrounding it. We started with the wagyu carpaccio and shared the bolognese with burrata cheese on top. The wagyu carpaccio was flavorful and was the perfect starter dish - light and yummy. The bolognese was hearty, warm and comforting. The service was friendly, attentive and quick. Even though the restaurant was packed with a line hoping to snag a table leading to the street, the staff never rushed us. This is a restaurant we will visit again!

OMG... there was absolutely nothing on this menu that wasn't tasty! This sizzling garlic shrimp was phenomenal... Could've had that for an entrée! My husband had the prime rib dip, which was delicious, but the pork chop... With spinach, pinenuts, spinach, and in some kind of a hazelnut sauce was off the chart! I cook pork chops all the time and I like to say I do them well... But this was off the chart! We'll definitely be back

Visited 230 Forest Avenue today with my grandmother for lunch today. I've been to Laguna so many times, but haven't ever walked down this road. I'm not usually a fan of the roads turned into restaurant extensions, but this road has some charm with it. The restaurant felt like a cute little Parisian restaurant with a 21st century flair. We were in kinda a rush, so we ordered right away. We ordered Fish and Chips and a Wedge Salad. The Fish and Chips that my grandma ordered were very tasty she said. She said she could tell that the quality of the fish for $28 was really good. The portion was large as well. The Wedge Salad I got and I added the lemon grilled shrimp to it. The presentation of the dish was pretty and the taste was good. I usually order wedges at steakhouses, so it's hard to compare. I would have liked the lettuce to be colder as it gives it that crunchy effect. Overall I thought the service and food were really good. Next time I have to come around dinner time to check it out. My rating is 8.5/10.

Decided to go to Laguna Beach with no set plans. When we arrive at around mid afternoon, we decided to eat first. I called this place and asked if they could accommodate 5 people and plus we have 2 doggies. The hostess was very accommodating and said they could seat us but will need the table at 5PM. For me, as a customer, I appreciated the honestly. We started off with their bread (4 rolls for $5). I would highly recommend this. The roll itself has a touch of sweetness but since it has seasalt, the two flavors balance each other out. Their scallop risotto was mild but fresh. The halibut was amazing as well. Their pork chops, although it was very flavorful, it was a bit hard. Our server was great. He even recommended the gelato place (Paradiso) nearby which we (of course) tried.

Let me start with saying that the service was wonderful. This review is specifically for the cioppino. Not at all worth it. The lobster was inedible as it was very overcooked, and the dish was mostly full of rubbery calamari. overall just wasn't a good experience. Everything else was great! I saw a lot of people very happy with their food and our fries were awesome. Our server was excellent. We left mostly hungry.

Right on the promenade, we weren't expecting much from a typical american cuisine but wow were we blown away. I haven't had food with so much flavor that wasn't overly seasoned in so long, just cooked so beautifully with the right ingredients. Highly recommend the Chicken Milanese and Fish & Chips.

Date night with the boyfriend on Saturday night. Small place but with extra seating in the patio/tent out front. We sat for cocktails first. I got the Amalfi Coast martini, a nice light lemon. I imagine it as the perfect drink during the summer! I highly recommend starting with the warm Parker House rolls. OMG delicious!! There is a charge ($6 for 4), but I think it's well worth it! We both started with the Caesar salad which was nothing special. Large portion...probably should have split it with my boyfriend. The boyfriend ordered the Reserve Skirt Steak, which he loved. I had a taste and it was delicious. I probably would have ordered it medium. He got medium rare and it was more like rare. I ordered the Chicken Milanese and expected a very thin, breaded pounded chicken breast. What came was a good sized thick chicken breast with a drizzle of pesto and lemon buerre blanc sauce. The combo was yummy. I asked for a bit extra sauce on the side and was glad I did. It came with sauted spinach which was nicely done, not mushy. Our server was excellent...wish I remembered his name! Not too intrusive; just the right amount of attention. We brought our own bottle of wine. Corkage was $25. We are definitely going back as there are 4 or 5 other things I'd like to try.

The three of us stopped on a gorgeous Sunday in January for lunch. We split an order of Japanese calamari with egg plant, figs wrapped in bacon, lump crab Mac and cheese and fish tacos. Washed it down with an ice cold IPA. Yum. Waitress was adorable.

Came for Mother's Day, was pretty busy but food was all good. - house made ricotta (yum) but could use more toast, we had 6 people and only a couple sliced of bread - prime rib dip - scallops - artichoke - 2x specials that cannot remember the name of

Food was ok. Bolognese came out under seasoned, but adding a little salt and red pepper made it decent. Salmon was bland and under seasoned, had to add a little salt to make it ok. Service was slow and they seemed understaffed.

Pretty good restaurant on Forest. No wait for indoor dining on a Saturday night, short wait for outdoor/patio area. I was able to watch most of the Dodgers game on TV from my seat on the patio. Decent menu choices on both food and drink. I had the French dip sandwich was that delicious. Service was fast and efficient.

The hostess was not inviting at all. We almost walked away. As far as the food. The oysters: would have been nice to know what type they were the server didn't know. The crab mac & cheese: was a complete fail. The portion size was super small, watery not cheesy at all & lacking crab . The Cioppino was the only thing that had flavor. I probably would go back.

There are many restaurants in this street and it was hard to choose one since we don't come to this area often I wanted to make sure we pick a good one and we definitely picked a good one. Services great ambiance causal. Food was delicious. My daughter enjoyed her Cesar salad dressing was great. My other daughter got a kids Mac and cheese which was made to perfection but she enjoyed the side of fries more. My chicken sandwich with bacon and guacamole was delicious full of amazing flavors. My husband also enjoyed the tuna tartar very fresh and on point with the flavor. If you are in the area and are having a hard time choosing a restaurant this place will not disappoint.

Best key lime pie i've ever had. whoever was in the kitchen on november 23rd knows what's up... i don't typically like eggplant but the way they cooked it in the kung pao calamari was super yummy. mac n cheese super creamy and tasty as well with the shell styled noodle

I walked by this place during the day and it looked like a really cool vibe so I did a little bit of research and it seemed like this was a really great spot to go in Laguna! I arrived probably close to 7 PM and luckily it was during the week so seating was available on the patio so I went on the patio and I was greeted very early I just can't remember the gentleman's name.. I asked what drink I should order and he showed me the most popular drink and it was the fig purée Margarita and let me tell you It was so good, I have never had a fig Margarita but definitely get it! I also ordered the scallops with risotto and a wedge salad, and both of them were delicious ! This is a really great find in Laguna Beach and I highly recommend !

Exceptional food, service and vibes! Today was my first visit and we loved it. The food was amazing, and the staff always was refilling our water and making sure we had everything we needed. I asked for hot sauce and they brought out an amazing fresh hot sauce I'm guessing made in house because it was served in a dish, it was delicious! We sat outside and it was really enjoyable. The only thing to note is parking it there are public parking garages a block down, we will be back!

Lunch was delicious & I'll definitely have to try dinner for the menu items that didn't make the cut. I asked the most popular menu item & our server said the fish and chips...I re-phrased & asked her opinion of the best and she said fish and chips again, but thank God she kept going. We landed with the wagyu carpaccio and spicy tuna to start. Wagyu was wonderful, spicy tuna wasn't spicy but nicely accented with the avocado (it's always avocado for the me) but the toasted, buttered ciabatta bread won me over. Our server recommended it with the wagyu & we later found this replaced the Hawaiian looking rolls every other table got. I don't feel deprived at all though. My scallops melted in my mouth with the perfectly cooked risotto. Right when I was wishing for a second plate, I tasted my friend's ahi (which was a steak) & had the pleasure of helping her finish off the medium cooked bliss. The fried rice loaf left a little to be desired. Sadly, my exorbitant appetite could have eaten another plate of everything. My friend--who eats like a bird was stuffed, so definitely worth a try for everyone in the middle:)

First time going to 230. Am a local and decided to give it a twirl. ordered the chipotle lime chicken and was served the toughest, dried out, most overcooked chicken breast I've every been presented with. A regular knife wouldn't cut through It. Shame on you guys. This is grilling 101. Go back to school for the sake of your future customer. I won't be one of them.

Came here for dinner before heading to Pageant of the Masters. We made reservations the week before to make sure we could get in and out in time but would probably be fine with a short wait to walk in on a weekday. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and has a lot of unique art around. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to decide and ask questions. I got the chicken Milanese which was delicious! Also highly recommend the warm house rolls!

The food it's amazing so delicious the service really really good Grey patio just to relax have some food and a drink the patio is nice clean and pet friendly.

230 forest has become one of our favorites every time we're in Laguna. We also get the same thing ! French dip.. mixed greens, and either the scallops with the corn risotto or the salmon. It's so good! We tried to branch off and ordered the papperdelle but ended up disappointed and it lacked flavor. The prime rib dip is so tender and it comes with the skinny shoestring fries. The mixed green is so simple yet refreshing with the local ingredients and their balsamic dressing. It's a meal on its own and good for sharing. You can't go wrong with either the scallops or salmon.. salmon is cooked perfectly with the crispy skin and the scallops is amazing paired with the corn risotto and chili oil. Service here is hit or miss. Sometime we'll get great service, sometimes we'll get mediocre.. but it's nice sitting out on the patio and people watching, enjoying the weather. It's also dog friendly, hence why it's included in our frequent rotation.

Stopped into this restaurant after checking out the neighborhood, and it was absolutely amazing! We tried the garlic shrimp by recommendation of the staff, and it was delicious. Two of us got the Prime Rib dip sandwich, and the flavor is incredible! So juicy, and the onions and cheese compliment it perfectly. The butter cake tasted as delicious as it smelled and l've never eaten a cake so fast. It had great crispy texture and a nice vanilla whipped cream. Great for anyone who prefers subtle sweetness! I'd recommend this place to anyone!

This was my first time here. Since the inside was not conducive to conversation on this busy Saturday night, we sat "outside" in their tented area. It was pleasantly warm and quite nice with plenty of space between tables. My wife and I perused the menu as we sipped excellent wines and decided to shared the Fisherman's Chowder, a salad, rolls and that night's Mahi Mahi special. It was hard to agree on the one thing we liked best because it all tasted delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for tasty fresh seafood and skillfully prepared dishes.

Someone had recommended this restaurant so we were eager to give it a try during our stay in Laguna Beach. We went for lunch and ordered a couple of salads, the Chopped Seafood and the Candied Salmon. Service was great and the salads quickly arrived. The Candied Salmon salad was one we had been told to order and it did not disappoint. The fish was cooked to a perfect medium temperature and had a lovely sweet glaze on top. It was served over a bed of greens with a very tasty mango slaw as well as dried cranberries, goat cheese and candied walnuts. It was a delight with every bite. The Chopped Seafood was not as good. While it included many of the ingredients of a typical chopped salad, the addition of the crab and shrimp should have elevated it but did not. There was only a small sprinkling of shredded crab meat and the shrimp were flavorless and resembled those you get in a premade shrimp cocktail ring from the supermarket. This salad would have rocked had it included some lump crab and then replace those rubbery flavorless shrimp with some nice juicy prawns. Even a mound of bay shrimp like you find on a good Shrimp Louie would have improved this salad. Again, I liked the space, the service was very good, and the candied salmon salad lived up to its expectations. I'll come back for that salad and also give something else on the menu a try because if the other items are half as good as the salmon salad, I'll be in for a real treat.

Disappointing experience with unprofessional service -- we chose to leave. We stopped by 230 Forest Avenue to treat my boyfriend's mother, who was visiting and recovering from back surgery. We didn't have a reservation, but the younger hostess was polite and explained that outdoor seating was reserved and indoor seating was available. When I asked about a small table near the front (not on the patio), an older hostess stepped in, abruptly interrupted, and responded with an unnecessarily dismissive tone. Despite the restaurant being at approximately 60% capacity, we were led to a booth in the very back, next to the restrooms and bussing station -- far from ideal for someone with mobility considerations. I returned to the host stand to request a more central table for comfort reasons. What followed was a frustrating back-and-forth: the older hostess again interrupted, whispered to her colleague "They just don't want to sit in the back.", and then directly asked me, "What kind of surgery did you say she had?" I was taken aback by the invasive nature of the question and the defensive attitude around what was a reasonable request. I explained our concerns, but instead of offering flexibility, she continued to justify the original seating and stated that other tables were reserved -- though the restaurant remained well under full capacity. At that point, I calmly reminded her that it is entirely appropriate for a guest to ask questions about their seating and that hospitality should reflect care, not interrogation. We ultimately chose to leave and dined next door, where we were warmly welcomed and treated with the professionalism we expected from a restaurant of this caliber. Restaurants is not just about food - it is also primarily service and that is about making guests feel comfortable and respected. Unfortunately, that standard was not met during our visit. Wishing this place all the best to sort this out.

We went this evening for dinner before the Laguna Playhouse. Our waiter was Chris and he was extremely helpful. He answered many questions and taught me about veloute sauce. Wish when we ordered the lamb chops we could've gotten two medium rare and two medium but that's not allowed. The cauliflower was outstanding the lamb chops were yummy but the polenta croutons on the Caesar salad was a huge hit tonight. I would definitely come back to this restaurant again, but would like to make a reservation and be able to sit outside

Food- would not recommend the sandwiches here! Both sandwiches were dry and didn't have much flavor. I couldn't find a pic online of the Fried Chicken Sandwich, but wish I'd seen what it looked like beforehand. Kinda looks like those sandwiches you'd get in school :( Brussel sprouts were okay - super oily and the flavor wasn't the best. Service & ambiance - amazing! Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly. Loved the location - it's on a busy little street with lots of shops and foot traffic. Overall - would not return. So sad that my bf and I were both disappointed in our meals!

Excellent food! Excellent service! Gazpacho and fish chowder were worth going for alone

We came here for my wife's birthday, we had a different reservation but the day of I decided it was not up to par for a birthday and looked up seafood spots in Laguna and landed on 230 forest Avenue. THANK GOODNESS WE DID! This place was really something good. We started with the kung pao calamari which I typically don't order calamari as it's pretty much the same wherever you get it. But this was a really cool twist with lots of flavor, we really enjoyed the app. We then ordered the fish broth seafood jumble (can't remember the name) but man it was good!! I will say eat the lobster first, we did not and near the end when we did it was a bit chewy as it kept cooking in the very hot broth. This had so much flavor was really well done. We ordered the bread which was last minute but so glad we did, toasted perfectly, buttered, just very good and getting it with the seafood was fantastic to dip into the broth! Lastly we got the French dip, seemed strange to me at a seafood place to get a French dip but WOW it was good! Beef was cooked so nicely with some pink, piled with cheese and onions man it was fantastic. Overall the place was cool on the inside with friendly wait staff and great service. We both are excited to go back. We got a free ice cream Sunday for my wife's birthday so we skipped the bread pudding. That is what we are dying to try next!
