Came on a field trip with my daughters school and this was such a great time! They gave a lot of theater history mixed with fun and silly interactive scenes. The entire cast was amazing and kept the kids very engaged and excited to see what was next in the show. The adults were offered coffee upon arrival and swag bags on the way out, both were an awesome surprise. I would totally recommend coming here for a great theater history lesson and a great time. Thank you, Nathan, Nick, Ariana, Brad and Christina for a great show!!! Hope to come back soon! 💜👏

Google
The most moving play I have seen in years. So relevant to the times we are living, where believing on the well being of the other seems to be insane and the world seems like a prison!!! Recommended 200%... tomorrow's show is open in exchange for voluntary contributions and several LA artists will be there... Don't miss this outstanding show, and support a local theatre committed to community Education!!! 7 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🤩

This is undoubtedly one of the greatest experiences a child could ever have. The plots, acting tips and fun abounded! This is a specially selected group of gifted actors and technicians interpreting their directors’ intent, to create an excellent show and cherished memories for all that attend. This is the second year that my school saw the show and I brought the 24th Street Theater crew some expensive treats because this magical venue deserves them. Kudos and bravo to this very special place.

Day of dead this year was even bigger than last year! So many cool booths and food, make sure you bring plenty of cash or you're stuck just browsing. The art and jewelry and clothes were beautiful and unique. Have fun!

I recently moved to Los Angeles and didn't know a soul I was lost and wanted some way to be creative. I looked up many community theaters but they all wanted professional actors which I found very odd by chance I found the 24th Street theater and they welcome me with open arms even though they are mostly speaking Spanish and I speak English I still feel very loved and welcomed. This is a real community theater with a real community and my words could never give enough praise for them and what they have done for me I will forever be grateful that I found my new family

Yelp
I just came back from a field trip, to 24th and I was blown away. Students had a blast and I appreciate the teaching of theater, and the staff there was awesome! Thanks for having us!

Yelp
A few years later after my initial visit, my socks were knocked off even more than my first visit. I came over the weekend to watch ICE and although the props were minimal, I felt that they really utilized them well. There were a couple of "old" tv screens from the 70s/80s era, along with an old school ice cream truck, the actors did a great job navigating the space in relation to the plot. ICE included a great storyline about a topic that many Angelinos can relate to in regards to immigration. My other favorite thing about ICE is the English/Spanish translation on the screen, so brilliant! Lastly, getting an ice cream treat at the end of the show was the icing on the cake! The theater in itself (interior and exterior) is still similar to my visit from few years ago. Bring your patience, there's still only 1 restroom. I'm glad that parking ($5) hasn't increased, bless your hearts. 24th Street, see you next time!

Yelp
Came back for another wonderful play by 24th Street Theatre! My first play was in pure Spanish, and I had trouble keeping up with the subtitles, since they would be out of sync at times. The play was also very politically charged and very heavy. Though the props and set was extremely simple, they did a good job with the minimalist set up to drive the point home. The most recent visit to this theater was more light and playful! ICE was very entertaining! Though the topic was serious and definitely hit close to home, it was well written and had many comedic moments to lighten up the mood! I enjoyed the set design as well as the lighting! How they incorporated the televisions into the set was very creative as well! What I like about this theater is the fact that it's intimate, you will likely be able to meet the actors if you wish to do so! Plus everyone is just so friendly and they always find a way to surprise you with a treat afterwards!

Yelp
I was very privileged to be given two tickets by the 24th STreet Theater and Yelp to attend a presentation of "ICE" on Sunday, June 10th. THE PERFORMANCE: ICE takes you back to Los Angeles circa 1988 where a baseball loving immigrant named "Chepe" finds himself disillusioned at the exploitation he encounters as a day laborer. Inspired by dreams of future success, Chepe sends for his cousin "Nacho" in Mexico to assist him in selling gourmet tacos out of a dilapidated ice cream truck. The obstacles they both face are made somewhat easier by a blind Irish priest who blesses the ice cream truck and gives the two men something stronger to believe in. THE CAST: We were very taken with the performances of Jesus Castanos-Chima (Chepe), Tony Duran (Nacho), and Davitt Felder (Priest). Davitt Felder effectively plays a variety of stereotypes in the filmed sequences in addition to his hearty performance as the guitar playing Irish priest. Felder's performance reminded me a bit of Frank Morgan in "The Wizard of Oz" in that they both effectively played a variety of roles within one single production. Jesus Castaños-Chima came outside after the performance and greeted the audience. He was very charming and humble and invited us to return again. PROS: The theater is very intimate and housed right outside Downtown L.A. We were warmly greeted at the door by the staff and led inside to the colorful lobby which was brimming with photos and a timeline of the theater on the wall. There were refreshments and coffee available as well and a red carpet set up with the theater logo backdrop. The theater itself has very roomy aisles and comfortable seats. There is not a bad seat in the house and the stage is ample enough for the cast and audience to enjoy. There is only one bathroom in the theater so be patient. Parking is available across the street for only $5; arrive early as the parking lot is rather small. CONS: None! Please make an effort to support and visit the 24th STreet Theater soon. The theater is very much rooted in the community and we look forward to attending more performances in the future.

Yelp
What a great place. It's an organization and destination that's been around for many years, and yet I still JUST got there the other evening. Hansel and Gretel Bluesgrass. Check it out! Good show for kids and adults, and they have a tasty treat for everyone at the end (sorry, no spoilers!). Apparently, they find some sort of reason to break some kind of bread post-show, I'm told. Cool tradition! This theatre serves the neighboring community (classes, etc). Wonderful place, wonderful mission, cool space. And the show I saw was great. Nice comfy theatre, plenty of legroom, inventive sets and design -- and the performers were great. Go Check Them Out. They also have a big list of Big Shots who lend their support, too. And not just behind the scenes. In 'Hansel & Gretel Bluegrass', for instance, Brad Whitford lends his talents in a creative and very supportive way. The area is safe, well-lit, has some cool restaurants, and is close enough to the 405 that it's super convenient. Can't wait to see what's next here.

Yelp
Got a pair for free thanks to the amazing Yelp! Show was at 7:15pm which started promptly. I got there at 6:50pm and parked very close, right on the same street. Soon after, you need to drive around. Small intimate theater with a 3 man show and really nice staff. The ICE Troca being the center of the story was a bit funny (had a soul) and inspiring. The also offered free soft serve vanilla ice cream from a truck after the show! That was fun and added to the message. If you're hungry pre-show I can recommend "The pupuseria Urban Eatery" which is 4 min drive or the taco truck that is around the corner (my cousins liked it).

Yelp
Very small but cute theatre of arts! Parking on the street is free, but could be tricky. My fiancé and I came to see ICE a play by Lean Martell. I saw tickets to win for free in my email and decided to try it out. I really enjoyed myself! Ints on a residential street on the corner and across the street is a mini actual old school movie theater. We parked on the street for free. As soon as you walk in there's a mini Consession stand on the left and the box office is on the right. Very small but nice. Restrooms were clean. The stage is very small but workable. I really enjoyed this play ICE. Only 3 crew members for the cast but entertaining. I was intrigued at all times here. The seats were sticking to me since I had shirts on. Love l the struggle! But it was on an hour show with a great storyline. Cool to get out for the day and watch.

Yelp
The Theater: Small but intimate. They sell snacks and drinks in the lobby. $1 or donations. The Show: Two men show, Richard & Roger. Very interesting show!! They full use the walls in the theater, using projectors to add in more graphics. Love the way they direct this show, very unique. Both performers are fantastic!! They act, sing & even play music instruments. Very talented!! The Parking: They have a parking lot right across street, $5. Side street residential area, free parking, 24th street might be tough to find a spot, try 25th street.

Yelp
I came to see the ICE play and it was amazing. The actors had great chemistry and made the performance funny, dramatic, and very creative. The whole performance and story was very touching and emotional for me, especially because it was such a hot topic. The staff was very great and Miranda invited me to join the email list to get involved in any events they have video punter opportunities. And for any of you actors, they offer free workshops. I would recommend coming to one of their plays. I really enjoyed it!

Yelp
When you attend one of 24th Street Theatre's performances, you can't help noticing their surrounding communities' embrace. 24th Street not only produces community and cultural events that are free to their neighborhood residents, and not only provides after-school theatre classes for the neighborhood kids, but 24th Street continues to impress audiences--time after time--with a myriad of thought-provoking and stimulating theatre. I've been twice now, having first the complete pleasure of experiencing "Walking the Tightrope"--seriously one of my favorite performances I've seen in a long time--and just recently having the opportunity to see "Man Covets Bird." My temptation is to completely ruin it for you, spoiling it all so that I may share its brilliance and creativity within my review. But I, sadly, digress. I will say, however, that this--among all of 24th Street's performances--is not only kid-friendly, as would be 24th Street's mission; but it's also one that allows even theatre veterans something to walk away thinking about. It's theatre for the entire family! Written by Finegan Kruckmeyer, directed by Debbie Devine, and starring Andrew Huber & Leeav Sofer (they're awesome!), "Man Covets Bird" is charming, heart-warming, endearing. You know, people's creativity never ceases to amaze me. And, yet again, 24th Street and its entire crew stand as testimony.

Yelp
Small charming theater that puts soul into their productions. Was blessed to be offered 2 tickets to see their show ICE this afternoon which I enjoyed. For a small space they used it well, did an excellent job making it understandable for Spanish and English audiences and the actors were solid. Parking: there's a lot across from the theater for 5 bucks or free street parking . I found a space easily 30 minutes before my show started.

Yelp
You should find a reason to visit this little theater. What an LA gem. They have nice sound, good lighting and comfortable, old school seating. There is a small parking lot across the street from the theater. Bookmark, like on Facebook and find a reason to visit!

Yelp
I came here to see a play that my friend was in. It's a small quaint theater. There's a lobby when you enter with some tables and chairs you can grab as you wait for the show to start. Also, note that there is only one bathroom here. The theater itself is small, but cozy. The seats were comfortable enough. But, it is drafty in here and I was freezing! Luckily I had a jacket. There is a small parking lot across the street for 5 dollars that I parked in. Otherwise, if you are lucky, there is street parking.

Yelp
We chose our 2017 Mother's Day Outing to include Every Table in the Square and the 24th Street Theatre. It was a wonderful day. I am grateful for the work of this theatre and Jay. It is a treasure that I will try to get others to engage with. I hope our seniors at Ward Villas will become regulars as well as members of Ward AME Church. Thanks for all that you do! Thanks Jacqueline Hamilton for urging me to find this gem in our own backyard. JDW Jacquelyn Dupont-Walker

Yelp
Educational and Brilliant! On thing I admire a performance that is culturally diverse and passionate. I was thrown back by the rawness of the story. I give this place 5 stars, I have only seen one show; ICE. It was great, it actually did not just entertain me it taught me something I did not expect to get out of it. Patience. I could almost relate to how sometimes we forget what we are truly working for and how we treat others on our quest to get there. Any act that could touch my heart the way this performance did is hands down a 5 star show. I highly recommend coming to this theater. Staff is very friendly, you see nothing but smiles on everyone's face and I love how this place is giving back more than what they are taking in. This place needs to be recognized for what they are doing for the community. What they have here is nothing less than a beautiful thing. Thank you for putting something this brilliant together for us. Amazing!

Yelp
Very small theatre. What it lacks in size completely makes up in quaint charm. It's awkwardly blended in with the neighborhood so it may be hard to spot if your just driving by. This reinforces the theaters mission to expose performing arts to the youth who may not have the access. Really enjoyed the concept of bringing children and performing arts together, accordingly they do showcase a lot of family-friendly plays. "Walking the Tightrope" Morbid concept, with a humorous twist. Wouldn't say it was "kid friendly" . Well kid friendly for 12yrs + but there were some younger kids present that couldn't keep still. This isn't a play to take your 7yr old son/daughter. It's not verbally stimulating for them. They do have random moments of loud speaking outburst, but the language and tone isn't suited for a young audience (under 12ish) I really enjoyed the play although it was a bit slow. You just wanna yell "ESME YOUR GRANDMA DEAD U BISH" but keep your composure she'll learn soon enough. It's a bit repetitive tho with her and her fixation on recreating summers past. But I'm being a Grinch..... Overall really liked the small theatre feel. The staff is young; I like the focus on reviving the arts in the neighborhood. Great concept and I would go back to support. Just different play of course.

Yelp
Don't let the size of this little theatre fool you. They bring powerful, impacting Latino perfomances to the community. I've seen a few of their projects and have not been dissappointed! They also do so much for neighborhood youth. They have a wonder after school program called "After 'Cool" and bring the world of art that many of these kids. 24th Street Theatre "es una joya en el barrio". Great for the family. If you bring your kids to a performance be sure to check what the recommended age limit. The staff is wonderful.

Yelp
I just came back from watching Man Covets Bird at the 24th Street Theater and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting much from the tiny little theater with cheap tickets near USC. For those of you that are fans of theater, you know how expensive it can be. But 24th Street Theatre proved you can have a great theater experience without it costing you an arm and a leg. The theater is intimate so there really is no bad seat in the house. The talent was great and I was impressed by how well they utilized their space, lighting and effects without much of a budget. I highly recommend theater fans to visit and see a show here. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My wife and I are huge fans of 24th Street Theatre. The works that Debbie Devine and Jay McAdams bring to life are always done with tremendous theatrical skill and taste and are geared to all ages, which is no small feat. They are committed to the community both locally and beyond. We are proud to support 24th Street Theatre.

Yelp
I came here to watch the US premiere of Man Covets Bird. The play was astonishingly profound & sophisticated for a production geared towards children & families. Seating is intimate but comfortable. The theater is small & independent, you can truly get a sense that this place is passionate about art & passing that on to the next generation. In addition to putting on professional productions, they also do a lot of community engagement through after school programs for local students as well as community theater for adults. Anyone who wants to get more involved in arts, the local community, or just has an appreciation for independent theater should definitely visit this small gem just south of DTLA.

Yelp
I watched "Both: A Hard Days Silet Night" last night it was amazing! The amount of talent within the cast was mine blowing. The theater has a cozy welcoming feel, overall great experience. The show definitely put me into the holiday spirit.

Yelp
My husband read about their "Hansel and Gretel Bluegrass" play in the LA Times. We were curious about it so we bought our tickets through Goldstar. There is parking across the street from the theatre for $5. Close to USC so parking can be a concern. The play was well done. Story was excellent. A new perspective on the classic story. It lasts about an hour or so its good for kids. Small intimate theatre. Seats are spaced well apart with lots of leg space. Everyone you meet is friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to attending another play in the future. Worth checking out.

Yelp
From the second you walk into the foyer you feel home. i have brought my kids to events and attended "grown-up" plays. both experiences were riveting, powerful & enjoyable. The content is cultural, eclectic but all tasteful and elegant. The place has an atmosphere that just seems to work. It has a great energy. 24th Street Theatre is a one of a kind place built for the neighborhood but reaches out far beyond and makes every effort to welcome in visitors. and when you enter 24th Street Theatre that's just how you feel ... like a welcome guest. I would highly recommend you try for yourself!!

Yelp
The work of this theatre and the great people involved in it, is inspiring, art promoting, thought provoking, youth empowering, and overall very good for a much more well rounded and humane society. Thank you all for being persistent and consistent with your efforts to lift our world up! Marjan Mojab

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! I brought my kids to see ICE, a 65 minute play that explored the experience of some immigrants in Los Angeles. It was a unique, thought-provoking experience that also kept the topic a bit light and appropriate even for the younger audience. The people that work here are so very friendly and nice.

Yelp
Community theater - strike that - professional theater at its finest in the USC University Park neighborhood.

Yelp
The 24th Street Theater is a treasure chest of talent, material, art and social justice. The quality of the performances and the caring and compassion of the material make this a must-see work and and must-have experience. Don't miss it!

Yelp
La Razon Blindada -- Playing September 18 to November 7 This production was mezmerizing. Not being a spanish speaker, I had thought I would lose the performance to the supertitles projected at the top of the stage--but nothing of the sort happened. Rather, the quality of the acting and writing was so excptional, that I was drawn into the production to the point of forgetting that I was reading the super titles. Small theatres often bring good work to our communities, however, when done as well as last night's performance, it is a gift. Thank you 24th Street for wrapping this present and bringing it to Los Angeles. You MUST take the time to see this production. It plays 3 times a week (Fri, Sat., Sun mat.) through the begining of November.

Yelp
This is actually not a "cinema", it's a small theatre - possibly 99 seats? - that does consistently challenging and interesting and theatrical work. There is apparently a company of the same name (24th Street Theatre) that works out of here, but whenever they've hosted other companies, like Circle X, the work is always inventive and it seems like they're always able to create really amazing effects on obvious shoe string budgets. I've seen Sandra Tsing Loh perform a show here last year that was so funny, people (that'd be me) were stomping their feet, trying (successfully in my case, I promise) not to pee their pants (she's part of the current season, doing a show called MY DINNER WITH SANDRE later this year). I just saw a very bizarre but compelling play about faith and Robert Oppenheimer in the post-nuclear age that is a prime example of why I think live theatre can be the most magical and transformative of all the arts. LA has some of the best actors, directors, and writers in the country, all trying to make it in Hollywood, and all with talent to burn that they have to put SOMEWHERE, since they so seldom get to do it for cash, so as a result: LA has some of the best low-budget theatre in the country. This little gem is a prime example.

Rayni J.

Yelp
The 24th Street Theater offers wonderful educational experiences to thousands of LAUSD youngsters. For that, they deserve much praise. However, the current offering, the play "Man Covets Bird" was a disappointing experience for us. Although the work has clever graphics and the timing is impeccable and the artists energetic, the experience was emotionally flat and boring beyond belief. It's the same genre as "The Giving Tree" but without the magic.

Mona S.

Yelp
I went to watch "Man Covets Bird" with my kids (7 & 4 yr olds) and we had a great experience. The play is not accessible to 4 year olds, but the music and the energy kept my younger one captivated. The place is small and intimate and that sets it apart from the big theater venues. I would recommend taking your kids ( & and up) to this performace
