*3.5 or 4 stars for the bar.
*-1,000 stars for the food.
We met some friends here on Wednesday evening for food and drinks before heading to a jazz show. The bar itself is divey and intimate; drinks are small and expensive, but that's the new Austin, so no hard feelings. Service is hipster chic, but the guys were personable enough. If we had just come here for drinks, we would have left happy.
Normally we're fans of Taco Flats because we've been to the Burnet location a few times and enjoyed it, but we had a terrible experience here and never want to go back now. The main issue was their ordering system--SO HORRIBLE. The stupid QR wasn't working and after going through the whole annoying and cumbersome process of ordering, we couldn't check out. And we tried several times. So when one of us went up to the truck to try and order from there, nobody could speak English or place our order. Great business model!!
Our friend was finally able to get it to work on her phone, and when the food finally came out, it was laughable. The brisket taco consisted of, like, 75% pieces of pure cut up fat. The shrimp taco did not smell right. We do have to say that the birria taco was the only one that we enjoyed. And that the chips were pretty solid (queso was only OK).
In whichever case, the food ordering experience infuriated us beyond belief--enough to make us feel that we would never want to come here again nor patronize the Burnet location again. 2 stars instead of one--only because the bar was fine.
