The 17 Best Hotels in Berlin

"A renovated 1950s high-rise is home to the Berlin outpost of this hip German hotel chain, which is sandwiched between the Berlin Zoo and the trendy concept mall Bikini Berlin. There's a fun energy as soon as you walk into the third-floor reception area, dubbed Bikini Island, which sports a playful jungle-themed design, with tropical plants, stuffed monkeys, and hammocks perfectly positioned to look out over the zoo’s monkey and bird cages. All rooms, even the ones called XL, are on the smaller side, but the funky Jungle Rooms, many with their own hammocks overlooking the zoo, offer an escape different from the others you can find in the city. The hotel is also home to the Monkey Bar, one of Berlin's most popular cocktail spots, and guests can cut the line by taking a private elevator straight to the door." - Jennifer Ceaser, Liz Humphreys

25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin

"Start us off with an overview and an entrance.A renovated 1950s high-rise is home to the Berlin outpost of this hip German hotel chain, which is sandwiched between the Berlin Zoo and the trendy concept mall Bikini Berlin. The third-floor reception-café area, dubbed Bikini Island, sports a playful jungle-themed design, with tropical plants, stuffed monkeys, and hammocks perfectly positioned to look out over the zoo’s monkey and bird cages. In the adjacent lounge, guests can spin vinyl on a turntable hooked up to a towering stack of speakers, play old-school pinball, or chill out on comfy, custom-made modular sofas. Who do you see around you?The creative set feels right at home in this trendy boutique hotel, but there are also businesspeople seeking an upscale stay without the stuffiness. Tell us about the rooms. The 149 rooms come in three sizes—M, L, and XL—though all are on the smaller side. Urban rooms look out onto busy Breitscheidplatz and the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church; the quieter, zoo-facing Jungle rooms come at a premium. Their open-plan design is fun and funky, with custom wood built-ins, platform beds, colorful modern furniture, and hand-drawn wall illustrations by Japanese artist Yoshi Sislay. Jungle rooms are cozy, with warm wood flooring and walls, while the edgier Urban rooms feature exposed concrete ceilings and walls. Some Jungle rooms have hammocks strung in front of floor-to-ceiling windows. The green- or gray-tiled free-standing sinks are incorporated into the room; the rainforest showers are spacious; and larger rooms have freestanding tubs—oddly, next to the bed. Any little goodies of note? The L category includes the free use of a Schindelhauer bike (which hangs on the wall); otherwise, bikes are available to rent. All rooms have portable Bluetooth speakers and bike bags that guests are free to use throughout their stay. If you need your caffeine in the morning though, note that there's only a coffee and tea setup in the L and XL rooms. And for food and drink—what do they have onsite?Neni, the rooftop restaurant, is fashioned from an old greenhouse, with glass walls and hanging plants everywhere you look; unsurprisingly, the best tables are the ones overlooking the zoo or out on the breezy wraparound terrace. The menu here consists of Mediterranean and Israeli share plates and a 58€ ($63) tasting menu with around 10 courses. Just opposite is the Monkey Bar, one of Berlin’s most popular cocktail spots, thanks to its panoramic city and zoo views from inside the windowed bar or out on the wraparound terrace. Drinks, though pricey, are expertly crafted with fresh herbs and fruits; try the vodka-based Bini’s Monkey Ponkey, whose proceeds benefit the zoo’s mother orangutan, Bini. The hotel’s more casual Aperitivo Bar sells spritzes, coffee and tea, and assorted snacks from 10 am to 10 pm. Any other features you absolutely must mention? All guests can borrow the hotel's resident Mini-Cooper for free. They can also avoid the lines and use a direct elevator to reach the Monkey Bar for a drink. Why will we love staying here? It's an experience unlike any other in Berlin, especially if you book a zoo-facing Jungle room." - Jennifer Ceaser

"Opened in 2014, the 25hours Hotel Bikini has injected some much-needed "Ost-side" chic into the West Berlin hotel scene. Being situated right next to the city’s main zoo, which houses the most animals of zoos in Germany , has given the hotel not only some interesting views but also a neat conceptual theme for German designer Werner Aisslinger. The interior blends a slew of funky furnishings—such as fur-lined hammocks, Vitra hanging chairs, and Moroso-esque sofas—with quirky touches like exposed concrete and bicycles stuck to the walls, and surrounds it all with an abundance of tropical plant life. Aisslinger’s playful approach informs the rooms, too, which are inventive and smart. They are split between "Jungle," which look over the zoo’s animal enclosures, and "Urban," which face out across Breitscheidplatz and the World War II-damaged Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. The rooms are found along deliberately darkened corridors illuminated only by rows of glowing room numbers."

The hotel is older, but very well maintained. You can tell the owners care about the place. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The front desk offered us coffee when we arrived early and let us store our luggage until check-in. That was really thoughtful. The location is convenient and safe. For travelers looking for simple, honest accommodation — this is a great pick.

We stayed at the hotel on 20 of June, so it was one of the shortest nights in the year, and we enjoyed a magnificent sunrise! At 3 a.m. the birds started waking up and flying around, the sun was still below the horizon, but we could see from above (the room was on the 8th floor) many herons and other big birds who live in the Zoo, but outside the cages. It was fantastic! Truly magic several hours! |The room, the bed, the shower - everything was comfortable. We liked the design of the room very much, every little detail is well thought out. Staff is nice, and location is superb. Strongly recommend!

This is a quirky hotel so if that’s your thing this place is perfect. The rooms are small but clean & have a nice big shower. It can be a bit noisy at night but we enjoyed the atmosphere but the leaf-blower waking us before 6 am every morning was a bit hard to take. Breakfast in the roof-top restaurant is amazing - the food is great and the views over the city are the best. The only downside is that there is no kettle, milk etc. for making tea or coffee which seems to be common in a lot of European hotels.

Wanted to stay at this hotel since I saw it on TV several years ago. It looked quirky and fun - and it didn't disappoint. Great location - handy for transport links and getting around. Breakfast is excellent - lots of choice with a view over Berlin. Friendly and helpful staff. NENI restaurant is popular and usually booked for dinner, but they manage to find space for residents. The industrial look and dark design of the hotel may not be for everyone, but I liked it. Was advised about housekeeping being every other day, which was fine. Had an urban room - next time will try a jungle room...........

Google
A fantasticically unique hotel. We had rooms with Zoo views, and it was beautiful. Everything in the room was clean, well maintained and included a stocked complimentary mini-bar. The live plants and hammock added a homey and lively atmosphere. ||The service was amazing. Selina and Miriam in particular greeted us each time with warmth and kindness and effortlessly accommodated our requests such as for running path recommendations, steak houses and so on.||Additionally, the breakfast was excellent, both high quality and great variety.||Finally, the sauna area was immaculate and both the sauna and the relaxation room had incredible views of the city.

We loved our stay here at 25hours hotel. The hotel is close to the Zoolischer Garten as well as lots of shops/restaurants. One of the main reasons we chose it was that it was overlooking the zoo and therefore we booked a room overlooking it. Our room was perfect - the ceiling to floor wondows meant we had a great view of the zoo and some of the enclosures. The bed was super comfy. We got a couple of extra pillows as they are very soft. It was really warm when we stayed so we slept with the window open and loved waking up to the sounds of the animals waking up in the zoo below. There were so many extras provided that you just don't seem to get from other hotels we've been to - a free mini bar, a portable speaker, bikes you could hire and a friendly monkey! As others have noted, the corridors and shower area are quite dark but personally, we loved this feel. All the staff were super friendly and made us feel really welcome. It's a shame that we only got to spend three nights here as we loved it so much!!

It was our first stay with 25 hours Hotel. And we can really recommend it. Starting from the very down to earth and friendly welcome at reception we were able to explore our rooms. The black/dark design with the modern highlights might not be everyone’s taste but I for one liked it. The rooftop bar overlooking Tiergarten, Zoo (hallo lion, birds and apes!) was very inviting and the location is just perfect.|Best thing maybe was the excellent breakfast in NENI restaurant, overlooking the city right up to the Reichstagskupoel, Gedächtniskirche on the other side and so forth. It was awesome.|Thanks for the great service!

Central location in West Berlin. Right next to the zoo and not far from Kurfürstendamm. |View from the bar and restaurant is very nice and well designed.|Jungle Large room quite original. View on the 5th floor more of ventilation systems than zoo. |Breakfast quite decent. Better than in many 5-star hotels. We liked the audiovisual design of the lifts. To summarise: A really good option in West Berlin.

Yelp
A wonderful full of wonders place, cool, young, unconventional with a beautiful scent, centrally located next to the Bikini and the Gedächtniskirche. Nice staff. Cool rooms with superheavy sound and break-in proof doors. Workstations in the lobby (not used but top Apple stations). Monkey bar at night, Neni restaurant with wonderful breakfast buffet and view onto the zoo in the morning. PS: just one concern: a disaster waiting to happen: the bathroom has very e very nice soap and shampoo brand, but they come in glass bottles that have no hard rails and could easily slip and break in midst of taking a shower... pls do something before that happens!!

Yelp
Visited the hotel bar on the top level around 9pm on a Friday. The space isn't huge and is quite loud but it is a VIBE. Dim lights, lots of candles, really fun drinks (and not to mention strong)- coming in the summer would be best as then you can also use the outdoor balcony. Anyway, the prices were pretty on par with what you'd assume- I think my colada was €14, and was so so strong. But very good. Highly recommend the hummus platter! There was sooooo much hummus, and not nearly enough pita bread but that was fine. Will absolutely go back but also keep in mind that there was quite a bit of a queue to get inside.

Yelp
Stayed here for the first time and it took me a couple of days to decide whether I liked it or not... Pros: -Location, location, location -Excellent breakfast spread and a great coffee machine -Individual air conditioning units (big plus for Americans in the winter time) -Strong shower pressure -Friendly staff all-around -Next to a mall with a supermarket (Edeka), so I could pick up water and snacks Cons: -Damn, my room was dark -Bed was very low (better be in good shape to get up on your feet) -Registration desk is on the 3rd floor (I hate getting in and out the elevator twice with my luggage) I was on the 8th floor and did not realize a nightclub was above me. Fortunately, the club was closed when I was there for renovation. I'll stay there again.

Yelp
**STYLISH AND FUN HOTEL IN BERLIN** Oh, I so love this hotel. Aesthetically, so ideal for me. AMBIANCE ========= City-meets-jungle concept with animal themes and warm natural colors orchestrated by top local designer Werner Aisslinger. Restored the original 1950s architecture wherever possible. Lots of exposed concrete surfaces. Loft-like spaces with cozy corners. Funky, cool, boho, all the above. Instagram worthy. PROS ===== - Small hotel with 149 rooms - Booked the Jungle Room, overlooking the monkey and elephant enclosure at Berlin - Zoo and the other half on the name Urban listens and looks at Berlin. - Free Wi-Fi - Comfortable bed - Awesome soap and shampoo toiletries - Fantastic breakfast buffet at the NENI restaurant (10th floor with incredible views) - Air conditioning, - TV minibar - Free bicycle rental (supposedly free but we were told that it was 25 euros a day) - iPod docking station - Sustainable cosmetic products - Heated bathroom floors - In-house bakery (3rd floor with hammocks) - Sauna (9th floor, a relaxation area and fantastic views of the Berlin Zoo) - Monkey Bar with an open fireplace and rooftop terrace - Short walking distance from the subway - Across from the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Memorial Church CONS ===== - Advertised free bike rentals on their website but was then told it was 25 euros a day - Location is not ideal for us, we preferred staying in Mitte PRO TIPS ======== - Research and see what hotel booking agencies have the lowest rates, we were charged more when we booked directly on their website - Request a hammock room facing the park HIGHLY RECOMMEND for trendy and fun atmosphere.

Yelp
Such a cute chic hotel. The jungle L rooms were sold out... so I booked the urban L room. Still a good choice. Very spacious! I loved the set up. Check in was quick. They charge the room at the end of the stay. Arrived at Tegel airport... it was an easy & cheap less than 5 euros to get to the hotel. They have plenty of amenities. Portable WiFi, bike rentals & mini car if available. The location is by the Berlin Zoo. If you eat at the restaurant it's overlooking. We opted of the breakfast included... many different food options. I highly recommend. Had a great time, wish we could have stayed longer!

Yelp
25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin is everything a hotel should be and on so many levels. So many times the nicer the hotel is the more attitude the front desk staff has. Not at 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin. The staff is friendly, kind and takes the time to help. The setting of the hotel is as unique as it gets. Overlooking the Berlin Zoo on one side and the city on the other side. If you're lucky to have a room facing the zoo side, don't worry about setting an alarm in the morning. ...you'll be pleasantly woken up by the sound of monkeys having their breakfast. The rooms spacious but more importantly, it doesn't feel like you're in a hotel. It feels like you're staying at coolest friends loft. The beds are just right and if you're jet lagged and need to sleep at a weird hour, the curtain make the room feel like the darkest night. For what you will pay to stay here, it's a great value. ...and fun.

Yelp
LOVE this hotel. Very fashionable while still being extremely comfortable. The beds are great, the staff is nice and there's some wonderful common spaces near reception to lounge, meet up or get some work done. The restaurant and bar upstairs are gorgeous. Also they overlook the zoo which is pretty unique. I heard the monkeys waking up while getting my coffee this morning. The rooms are really well done. My favorite part was the lighting. The bathroom and foyer areas are all black with slowly changing colored lighting hidden in the ceiling. The room is also very smartly laid out- with natural dividers between the shower, sink and bed areas. So the space feels much bigger than it is because there's a designated, well-thought area for each activity. Also, each room comes with an ipod radio clock with both 4 and 5 docks, so even as an American I could come into the room, pop my iphone in the dock and start charging my phone and playing my own music as soon as I walked in. No need to fuss with adapters, but if you need one, the staff downstairs has plenty to lend out. I loved the hand-done sketches that decorated the walls, as well as the calming, yet chic color choices. My room looked out over the Europa Center and there was a church nearby that woke me up several mornings with the most beautifully-odd church bells I've ever heard. They were these strange, soft, fluid sounds in minor notes that sounded both hand-played and electronic at the same time. Train and bus stations are very nearby, so this is an easy location to zip in and out of. Lots of shopping. Although most of the stores are commercial stuff you can get anywhere. If you're looking for more interesting shopping/bars/restaurants probably not the best area, but I was here for business and didn't mind exploring other parts of the city for those things. Overall this is a very cool, well-designed hotel with a lot of handy conveniences and comforts.

Virginia A.

Yelp
Overall I like the idea with the industrious feel and cool decor, but unfortunately the noise of the bar kept us up. When we checked in, I reiterated how much we needed a quiet room and they reassured us it was quiet as it's far away from the bar level. Noooo unfortunately this was not true. Until 3 am we were hearing the booms and vibrations of the bass. Sad face.

Yelp
The coolest hotel I've ever stayed in with amazing rooms. Pay a little extra to stay in the room overlooking the zoo--it's really cool to wake up to monkeys! Only complaint was that our room was on the 8th floor, and we could hear music from the monkey bar club upstairs.
