Our three-night stay at the Royal Bavarian Hotel in Munich was very disappointing and far below the standard expected.
There were repeated issues from check-in. We were given incorrect information about the minibar, which was never properly stocked. Housekeeping was inconsistent — on one day only the bed was made and towels replaced, while bins were not emptied and toilet paper was not replenished. The next day housekeeping did not come at all, and we had to call reception for basic items.
One staff interaction was particularly unprofessional, when a staff member delivering towels told us to call reception next time so they would not have to “go back and forth.”
We also had an uncomfortable situation with a security guard who stopped us from bringing leftovers into the hotel and followed us to the elevator even after we showed our room key.
Most concerning was when a man knocked once and then opened our door without waiting for a response or properly identifying himself. As two young women staying alone, this made us feel extremely unsafe.
Finally, the payment process was poorly explained. I was charged the full stay amount plus deposit at check-in, and then told to pay the full amount again at check-out while the first payment would be reverted. Having €882 authorised twice without warning was very frustrating.
Overall, the repeated service issues, poor communication, and serious privacy concern made this a very stressful experience.
