The 25hours hotel at museumsquartier in Vienna is a lovely, quirky and relaxed place to stay at a central, convenient and well-connected location with excellent staff and a really friendly atmosphere.
When I asked a friend from Vienna about nice hotels, he recommended the 25hours hotel at museumsquartier to me - a good choice.
The 25hours hotel at museumsquartier is entirely different from many traditional, stuffy hotels. When you walk in, it feels more like a hostel. Something I like, because I also enjoy staying at hostels.
The email support before the trip was very friendly, and when I arrived, check-in was smooth. Despite me getting there a bit early, the room was cleaned and ready, so I could drop off my bag and explore the area around the hotel.
Something many people from outside German-speaking countries might not realise is that some of the staff, not all, start talking to guests using the informal "Du" instead of the more formal "Sie" you usually expect at a hotel. I liked that, because it works great in this down-to-earth setting they create within the hotel.
Throughout the hotel they have some kind of circus theme going. Few of the details look weird, but altogether it is not overpowering and works fine in creating a unique and playful atmosphere.
The room was probably a bit on the small side for that price, and the view of the park was more the view of a rather small park and playground. But it was facing the city, so we could see some of the beautiful, iconic buildings from our window.
On of the selling points of the hotel is free wifi. Even before I checked in, I had already bought a SIM card for just €9.90 from an A1 store with 1 GB preloaded which was enough for my stay, but I still value the free wifi and do not understand, how many hotels nowadays get away without that. The "iPod dock" is a little bit useless since Apple changed the connectors, but they also have a simple audio cable attached to the sound system, so you can really hook up any device, which is all I ask for. It is convenient and we used it to put on relaxing music when we got back to the room after a long, busy day out. The bathroom is nice and functional with a great shower. The room comes with a desk, a little fridge and a small safe in the cupboard, as you would expect. So the room has all the standard features.
A funny detail is perhaps the little wooden bench between bed and window. I often sat there in the mornings or evenings to plan the day ahead, so it turned out to be quite useful. The room also had a TV, but having an iPad with me, I did not even bother to turn it on.
The only downside of a room on the first floor is perhaps the noise that you can hear from the restaurant below. It did not really affect me too much, but people who are sensitive to noise when they get to sleep might be annoyed by the humming bass...at least until the restaurant closes.
We were once at the 1500 FOODMAKERS restaurant in the evening for a coffee and a tea. As a visitor from London expects at a fake-vintage, contemporary-styled restaurant, they do not only offer Viennese classics but also a flat white. They could do with a latte art course, but hey, it was a good effort. And the tea was delicious. Apparently, the Italian restaurant is a popular dinner spot, not only for hotel guests.
A couple of times we asked the staff at the reception for help, for example when we needed to print tickets or boarding passes - they were always very friendly even in the middle of the night and quickly helped us printing our documents. You could also use one of two iMacs in the lobby to print documents yourself.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at the 25hours hotel at museumsquartier in Vienna. The location is central and great, you have subway and tram stations nearby and the connection to the airport by public transport is straightforward. In combination with friendly staff and the nice atmosphere, this hotel is definitely a place I can recommend. But it is perhaps not be the cheapest option around.
