The Designers Behind Block Shop Share Their Guide to Jaipur

"28 Kothi is great for groups (book the three-course dinner outside in the garden)."

28 Kothi hotel | Jaipur | Rajasthan | Smith Hotels

"Gemstone-inspired guesthouse 28 Kothi bucks Jaipur’s traditionalist trend with its mid-century furniture, Rousseau-esque murals and urbane, in-the-know staff. Knowing that a stay in a stiff-collared palace isn’t for everyone, the hotel’s owners – a jeweller and seasoned restaurateur – enlisted their design-savvy contacts to create a modern, minimalist hotel that chimes with the 21st-century traveller. Having spent the day wandering the Pink City’s best boutiques, art shops and fabric dealers (all recommended by the cosmopolitan staff), hit the Ayurvedic-influenced spa before settling into a dinner of fragrant thali in the lush, lantern-lit garden." - Mr & Mrs Smith

28 Kothi, Civil Lines, Jaipur, Rajasthan - Explore & Book

"Hidden down an unassuming lane in Jaipur’s residential Civil Lines district, 28 Kothi brings a new level of luxury to the guesthouse experience. A joint venture between Siddharth Kasliwal (co-owner of Gem Palace, India’s most glamorous jewellery business) and Abhishek Honawar (eminent Bombay chef), it opened its doors to instant acclaim. It was envisaged as a place for Kasliwal’s clients to stay that would be “as extraordinary as the jewels they come to Jaipur for”, and is filled with stunning objets d’art and eye-catching commissions. With just 5 stylish rooms, a lush garden, a peaceful library and a bijou spa, the atmosphere is particularly special; intimate and welcoming, and ideal for solo travellers as well as couples. Meals are made to order in Cafe Kothi using farm-fresh vegetarian ingredients - you'll breakfast on the terrace and dine under the stars at night. But most seductive of all is the peace here - it's a true urban oasis. You’re more likely to hear the resonant call of a peacock than the thrum of traffic, yet Jaipur’s ‘Pink City’ and its numerous attractions are just a tuk-tuk ride away. Highs Fantastic valueWe loved the 5 airy rooms, with their pops of bright tropical colours and potted palm treesSublime vegetarian food (quinoa biryani, orange rabdi and perfectly spiced Rajasthani thalis)The Kothi Spa - treat yourself to an Ayurvedic massage with all-natural ingredients sourced in the HimalayasReading in the library, a little sanctuary with a miniature Indian mural and colour co-ordinated book collection Lows No pool to cool off in The minimalist and clutter-free aesthetic doesn't allow for mod-cons - no TVs and no minibars except in the Suites (Moonstone, Sapphire)Welcomes families but there's nothing for them hereA strict payment policy" - Meg Lambert

28 Kothi (Jaipur, Rajasthan) 6 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"It’s no grand statement, no hospitality revolution. And with just five rooms it isn’t going to fundamentally alter the Jaipur hotel scene. But what makes a place like 28 Kothi so extraordinary is precisely that — that it seems to exist for no reason other than to bring a little bit of gratuitous beauty into the world. A collaboration between an Indian jeweler, a French architect, a Lebanese interior designer, and a restaurateur who splits his time between New York and Mumbai, it’s nothing if not cosmopolitan. And though its luxuries border on the extravagant, the low cost of lodging in Jaipur means this fantasy can be had for a relative pittance." - Tablet Hotels

Stayed at 28 kothi after getting the recommendation from ChatGPT for one night.. |the pros:||1. Very clean|2. Centrally located |3. Huge n v well equipped bathrooms.||The cons:|1. Highly overpriced.|2. They try to sell their Rajasthani thali which is priced at almost 5 times from the good fine dining city restaurants.|3. The breakfast is the worst that I have ever had. No Buffet.. which is a norm in any 3/4/5 star hotel.|4. It’s a set menu with only 2 hot items. They take ages to serve.. they bring c v small portions.. they didn’t even have biscuits to go with tea.. no croissants.. no bakes… it’s v frugal.. for 3 ppl.. they bring 2 juice glasses.. n 1 paratha .. if u wish to order more.. u wait for another 20 mins for the second paratha.. tomato Upma was a v small portion with raw smelling semolina.. highly disappointed.. |opp of what u would imagine the Rajasthani hospitality..

If we could give this hotel more than 5 stars we would. An incredible stay that really was a highlight of our India trip. ||The setting is gorgeous, with an understated beauty and beautiful interiors, in the rooms and wider hotel. It is one of the few boutique style hotels we have stayed in over the years that have all the quality and touches of a 5* resort brand but with the personality and charm of a smaller boutique hotel. ||I cannot name single members of staff because all were incredible. So friendly, kind, attentive and exceptional at what they do. Raadiyah is an amazing property manager, who made us feel so welcome from the start and really felt more like a friend after our 3 night stay. ||The food was one of the best meals and thali we ate in India. Of course it’s lovely to explore your surroundings but we were happy to eat here 2/3 nights simply because the food was so good. ||We had an amazing Indian head massage in the on site therapy rooms, and had a driver arranged to take us to the main sites, who was also lovely. ||We most certainly will be back in the future and would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Jaipur. Thank you 28 Kothi.

An absolute gem in Jaipur. 28 Kothi Hotel is the kind of place that makes you want to extend your stay — effortlessly stylish, incredibly welcoming, and refreshingly peaceful. The design is thoughtful and modern with warm, creative touches — a calm sanctuary from the chaos of the city. The rooms are spotless, beautifully curated, and feel like a chic home away from home. The on-site café is a destination in itself: perfect coffee, and delicious bites in a peaceful setting. But what truly sets this place apart is the staff. From the moment we arrived, Ahmed and the entire team were exceptional — warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. You can feel the care they put into every detail. Whether you’re in Jaipur for a few nights or planning a longer creative escape, 28 Kothi is a rare find. Highly, highly recommend.

Everything about our stay was fantastic. The staff is attentive and welcoming. Sherwan and the whole team made us feel thrust at home. The room was clean and laundry service efficient. Breakfast and dinner in the patio from the Kothi Cafè was delicious!!!

I enjoyed my stay at 28 Kothi from start to finish, and it was a highlight of my trip to Rajasthan. Located in a peaceful neighborhood, the small hotel has a relaxing, quiet garden and beautifully decorated interiors. It also smells amazing! ||This place is all about the details - upon arrival, I was served a refreshing pomegranate drink and given a selection of soaps to choose from for my stay. There were fresh flowers on the stairs. The body products were dreamy.||My room was bright and airy and full of interesting textiles and decor to look at. Loved the piles of design books to flip through.||The cafe serves clean, fresh, vegan friendly food and beverages - it was just what I needed after eating so much traditional Indian food (which I love, but I needed a reset!) Meals were presented on gorgeous block printed placemats. I loved the breakfast options, a combination of Indian and continental dishes, and appreciated the availability of non-dairy milks.||The thali dinner in the garden felt really special, but my one suggestion is to ask guests about their spice preference. I love spicy food and I felt like this was prepared for a “tourist palate”.||I have to give a special shout out to Raadiya, who provided the best recommendations for shopping and sightseeing and set me up with lovely drivers. She is genuine and warm and made for her job, and just an awesome human. She even sent me some suggestions for Delhi that were exactly what I was looking for. She went above and beyond and I am grateful!

Wonderful 4 night stay at this property. Communication via WhatsApp was always available when any requests were made (thank you Radia!) and all staff were smiley and made us feel at home. Loved the fact that the staff greet you at the door each time you return! The quality of the food was excellent and the barista coffee a welcome addition!! We stayed in the moonstone suite and unfortunately, our first night was uncomfortable as the mattress was very firm. We mentioned this to Radia the following morning, and straight away, she rectified the issue and added another mattress / topper and it was super comfy after that. This made such a difference! The hotel is on a corner so unfortunately there can be lots of hooting at peak times, but we got used to it and realise there is no real quiet to be had in any Indian city! This hotel was a convenient base for tours and we loved the thali dinner that they arranged for us on our arrival, in the grounds. My only recommendation would be to provide bigger towels in the bathroom! Would highly recommend this boutique property.

The hospitality at 28 Kothi is off the charts. We had already left the hotel and made it to the main road when the Concierge caught up with our taxi on his scooter to give us the jar of their housemade granola that we had bought & forgot! ||Aman and the team were so personable and attentive throughout our stay. The hotel itself is beautifully built and furnished, and its located in a low-key, residential neighborhood. The Sapphire Suite is very spacious. We got excellent massages at their in-house spa. The food was fresh and light! Our favorites were the Alfalfa Salad & Akuri with Sourdough Bread. The candlelit Thali dinner was a dreamlike experience. And we loved their delicious housemade bar snacks: especially the Crunchy Lotus Root Seeds and Chocolate Coconut Granola. ||As I mentioned above, the granola was so good that I bought a jar to take home! Thank you again for *literally* going the extra mile to ensure the granola made it into my luggage. 🙏
