The 24 Best Places to Go Glamping in California

"A desert retreat marketed for stargazing with no light pollution and no Wi‑Fi or phone service, the Mongolian-style yurts each include a queen-sized bed, a private bathroom with a heated shower, a fire pit, a barbecue area, and a picnic table. There are five yurts (each accommodating up to four guests), and the ranch welcomes both kids and pets; it sits about an hour from Palm Springs and roughly 20 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park." - Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe is a Los Angeles-based writer with an obsession with good eats and interesting stories. 28 Palms Ranch is a unique desert escape just minutes from Joshua Tree National Park. The yurt was cozy and stylish, with hotel-quality linens and an unforgettable outdoor shower under the stars. We loved stargazing right from the yurt and watching the sunrise with a freshly brewed French press coffee. Truly a magical experience. Erin was an outstanding host, warm, helpful, and thoughtful in every detail. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Our stay in the Joshua Tree desert yurt was absolutely unforgettable. My husband, son, and I were welcomed by Erin, who was an incredible host—warm, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. The yurt itself was thoughtfully equipped, giving us the perfect balance of comfort and the rustic charm of camping. At night, the sky lit up with more stars than I’ve ever seen in my life—it was truly magical. If you’ve never stayed in a yurt before, I can’t recommend this experience enough. It’s the kind of adventure everyone should do at least once, and Joshua Tree is the perfect place to do it.

Great location, just 3 miles off the highway. Wonderful star gazing, very cool yurt - our first time glamping! Private toilet, outdoor shower, air conditioned, site includes your own fire ring and barbecue as well as a sink with running water and a shaded picnic table. Owner on site for any questions.

WOW! This place is soooo cool! It was perfect for my weekend getaway to Joshua Tree! It was far enough out of the national park to feel like I had space and close enough to get there quickly for all of the activities I wanted to do. The whole area is so cute and all the details were amazing. Hot private outdoor shower, our own private fire pit, cooler for our food, private bathroom, AC in the Yurt and more. Will 100% be coming back and recommending to all my friends!!!

Got the great experience to stay in one of Erin’s yurts. Spent 2 nights, 20 min drive to entrance of Joshua tree at 29 palms. Beautiful night sky while sitting around fire pit. Erin thinks of comforts like blankets to use will sitting at fire. Grill worked well. Has cooler, need to bring ice with you. Has firewood available to purchase or can pick up in town. Each yurt very private. Air conditioner worked well. Bed super comfortable! Outdoor shower awesome under the stars! Would highly recommend!

We just completed a wonderful stay hosted by Erin. The outdoor shower is so much fun (air dry!) and it really is glamping, definitely outdoorsy with a hint of roughing it, but with the comfort of running water, a toilet, and a climate-controlled megatent with a soft and comfy bed. Recommended!

Had a last minute available weekend and booked a yurt to be able to visit the Joshua Tree National Park. My yurt had amazing linens and a very comfy bed. I used the gas grill to cook up a frozen pizza and enjoyed some quiet time under the stars on the Adirondack chairs. I appreciated the outdoor shower and the AC which kept the yurt cool after long hot hikes. Definitely glamping. Be prepared with your own ice for the icebox/cooler. Know that the bathroom is like a latrine. Conveniences like power in the yurt and running water definitely elevated this from an average glamping experience. Everything as advertised (or honestly, better!) Plenty of privacy. Really enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend!
