What a fab little introduction to Lancaster this was. Oh yes, I'm yelping in Lancaster! Why? Well, my maid of honour lives here, and as I've weighted such horrendous responsibility upon her shoulders, I feel it is my duty to visit her in her homeland on regular occasions. The Borough has a lovely traditional feel to it and manifold rooms where you can snuggle up, have a great meal and sip some tasty house wine.
The first time I came here, charmed by its rustic and cosy interior, we indulged in Ploughman's deli platters and shared a bottle of wine, and everything was tickety-boo. The second time was only yesterday. This involved the full Sunday roast, just what we needed. And guess what they do on Sundays? For every two main meals purchased, you get a free bottle of wine. The waitress was honest and said the wine wasn't all too awesome, but if you spend £3 you upgrade to a much better wine. Our roasts, two porks, two beefs, were to cost a tenner each, and we figured we'd upgrade. Such nice wine it was! One red, one white, and even though this may have been partly to blame for our other halves deliberately showing us up with terrible table manners, it was so worth it.
We decided to treat ourselves to pud, each couple sharing, and our request for a side of custard was met (we wanted sticky toffee pudding, Betrothed wanted it with ice cream, I with custard, so we were given a jug of custard and an extra bowl. Aces!) - my maid of honour and her dear half shared the crumble, advertised as rhubarb but in reality was apple and raspberry, which turned out to be a favourite. Great roasts with generous Yorkies and a good portion of gravy, perfectly cooked vegetables and tasty beef and pork, and puds with proper school dinner bright yellow custard. Couldn't have been better.
All in all, each couple spent £30 for a delicious Sunday treat in an idyllic setting. Can't say fairer than that, can you?
