My wife and I visited SW Steakhouse on a recent trip to Las Vegas. SW Steakhouse did not disappoint and generally lived up to its Five Star accolade.
Upon entering, we were greeted with one of the only odd moments of the night, which was the front desk staff seeming to get in an argument with each other over some situation that had just occurred. Thereafter, we were escorted to our seat and another odd moment happened in that the staff did not seem confident on the first greeting. They walked around us a few times just to place the menu and then they seemed a bit unsure on pouring the water and getting us started. Thereafter the service was impeccable and I felt the waitstaff were on top of making sure we had everything we needed and were very kind as well.
Ambience was one of the strengths of the steakhouse. The steakhouse sits on the lake at the Wynn, in which, every 30 minutes puts, a Bellagio-like fountain show occurs. The shows are incredible, varied, and include an amazing amount of theatrics. In addition, the restaurant itself is modern refined and everything felt very comfortable and luxurious. There is no doubt from any angle, SW is a Las Vegas high steakhouse.
Moving onto drinks, I thought the cocktails were good but forgettable. While well made, I did not feel that there was anything unique about them. The wine offerings, as you would expect a steakhouse of this caliber, were voluminous the wine we had was full bodied and paired well with our steaks
The high point of the meal, of course, was the food. The bread they originally brought out was delicious and fresh. The steaks we ordered were phenomenally cooked and I would say on par seasoning-wise with CUT. in addition, I got a truffle butter for my steak, which was one of the best steak add-ons I've had at any restaurant. My wife ordered the lobster which was absolutely scrumptious. She ate every piece. My wife and I also enjoyed the sides, which included scalloped potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and mushrooms. Much to my chagrin, scalloped potatoes have largely died out in steak houses so I was so happy to see them here. The macaroni and cheese was smartly prepared with a light veggie on top to cut the richness. And the mushrooms were perfect.
The price was exactly what I would expect from a high end steak house: expensive. I would expect at around $225pp with drinks and sides. That said, and all considered, SW is just behind CUT for my favorite Vegas steakhouse and I highly recommend it.
