With Reading Week ending, I squeezed in a visit to this Vancouver-born craft brewery. The minimalist, zen-like space almost feels more like a tea house than a bar ~ Tried their core flight — poetic names like Life and Ocean. But the real standout was the Mezcal Gose: super fruity, berry-forward, and easily the best sour I’ve had lately.

Tasteful Tap Room or Wannabe Sports Bar? Normally visiting 33 Acres is a very pleasant experience. Typically great beer, atmosphere and service. Yesterday afternoon however we went to meet friends for a beer and a visit and were surprised to see a TV set up on the bar playing a hockey game. This wouldn’t have been a problem except the audio was being played throughout the whole tap room and patio at 'rock concert' volume. Not the typically atmosphere that we have come to expect when visiting 33 Acres. To top it off, the only person who was watching the game was a staff member who was very standoffish when I politely inquired if the volume could be turned down a bit. We finished our beers and decided to relocate around the corner to the Ol’ Beautiful Sound Room for a much more pleasant brewery experience. Not sure if 33 Acres is pivoting from a tasteful tap room to more of a sports bar. If they are, we sadly won’t be back.

In Calgary for an insurance conference during Stampede week and decided to check out the 33 Acres location after having good experiences at their Vancouver brewery. Figured it would be a nice taste of home hospitality while dealing with all this Alberta business travel. Perfect timing too - just got gifted a genuine cowboy hat from my client Jim (apparently you can't attend Stampede events without proper headwear), and when I arrived at 33 Acres, the place was packed with people in full western gear. Felt like I'd finally found my people! Cowboys, belt buckles, the whole authentic Calgary experience. This was going to be the perfect end to my first Stampede day. Walked up to the bar wearing my new hat, ready to order their signature pale ale and maybe strike up some conversation about the rodeo events. That's when the bartender dropped the bomb: "Sorry sir, we're closed for a private Stampede function."Closed? But I'd specifically checked the Yellow Pages website before coming over, and it clearly showed they'd be open until 10 PM. Showed the bartender the printout from my research, but apparently their hours had changed for the private event and nobody bothered updating the online information. Here I am, 69 years old, wearing a cowboy hat for the first time in my life, trying to embrace Calgary culture, and I get turned away at the door while watching everyone else enjoy what looked like an excellent party. The irony wasn't lost on me - excluded from a Stampede celebration at a Vancouver brewery. The staff were polite about it, but there's something particularly deflating about being dressed up like a tourist and then getting treated like one. Would it have killed them to update their website hours or put a sign on the door? Ended up at a sports bar down the street where nobody cared about my hat and the beer came from a tap that hadn't been cleaned since the Klein era. Sometimes trying to be authentic just makes you feel more out of place than ever. Maybe I'll stick to the Vancouver location next time.

I had an incredible experience at 33 Acres in Calgary! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the standards of quality were evident in every detail. I was especially impressed by the exceptional service provided by who I think was the manager, Kyle, who made the experience even more memorable. Highly recommend this place!

Google
I love this place, good energy, friendly and awesome service from the bartenders every time. My one complaint is that they removed the best beer from the menu, the Mango Super gose, was me and my some of my friends favourite drink on the menu. Overall would recommend this place to anyone it’s amazing, but bring back the mango!

Awesome beer with a very cozy vibe. The quality and craftsmanship of the beer is very noticeable at 33 Acres. They have a great variety to satisfy everyone's taste. The seating upstairs feels like a loft and brings the cozy factor. The service was also excellent. Top notch!!

Great beer, great location, great staff. Tons of non-beer options for folks too! Brought our entire wedding reception group here after the reception and everyone had the best time. Servers were super kind to our group at last call, and great for the entire time we were there. Attentive at clearing glassware. Great space. Great beer. Great team. Great bar. Best shaft in the city.

Only had can pours since all their kegs were drank dry over opening weekend. Cute dog friendly outdoor patio. The design of the space is very calming inside. Scandinavian meets west coast surf vibes. Excited to try more beer and have a flight when more beers are back on tap.

Yelp
Great place to chill in a fun, albeit small location. Friendly staff and a wide selection of super tasty beers. Be prepared to ask for suggestions!
