Yelp
Yummmmmmy food!! Ordered this on a whim when I was too busy studying to cook and i'm glad i did!! The birria tacos with mozzarella were sooo juicy and flavorful and the flautas were crispy and packed with shredded chicken. They also gave me a free slice of tres leches cake which i'm not sure if that was an accident or intentional but as someone who used to live in miami and was obsessed with tres leches cake, I definitely didn't complain. I will definitely order from here again.

Yelp
Have been to their other location, so stopped in here as I know they have good food. Same great menu is available here as well, and there is some nice outdoor sidewalk seating in a quieter street. Basket of tortilla chip with salsa verde and roja brought out before your meal which is great and very welcome. Love their horchata as well, perfect on a hot summer day. The birria taco with consomme was excellent as well. Nice tender meat with right amount of other toppings. Broth could have used a bit more kick though it is still great. Quick service and good value. Overall great just as expected. Thanks

Yelp
It's time to update. This place is almost exactly across the street from me so the convenience is unbeatable but even if it were not, you'd still find me there. Their food is delicious and fresh. (Find me many nights just dropping by to pick up chips and salsa). Their shrimp fajita is my favorite but really order anything. Their choices for breakfast are so good and they open at 10! They are consistent and delicious. If you want a taste of Mexico you can get that right on this corner in West Philly!

Yelp
When we came here, it was already very crowded, not a lot of seats left - we were seated on a bench and a few other waiters came over asking why we were seated at the bench because it tends to tip over - then why have it there and not fix it? We were parched and starving so we were ok with it. Super casual spot, helpful waiters when it came to what to order, took a little while to get more water but other than that it was a decent food and experience.

Yelp
I didn't expect to have such good mexican food this far north but boy was I wrong. This place's food is fantastic. I came here on reccomendation from a pastor friend of mine and when he said it was the best mexican food in the area I was skeptical but I was proven so so wrong. 1. The chips and salsa are to die for. There's this orange sauce that is the stuff of gods. Easily the best salsa I've ever had. They bottle it and sell it and I was seriously tempted. There's a part of it that tastes vaguely asian like they added sesame oil or something but boy is it good. 2. Pro tip, ask for "angus beef" as your meat choice. It's a slight up charge but a secret menu item that will give you the most tender little cubes of steak in your burrito ever. 3. Dang where to start with the burrito! This thing looks a tad small but it was dense. It was the californian style and the french fries were cooked to perfection. All in all this mexican place was a welcome visit this far north and I certainly will be coming back again.

Yelp
Don Barriga does it again. The food is delicious. Well seasoned. Always fresh. Lots of options to choose from. Whether you choose inside or outside seating you won't be disappointed. The music is a nice bonus. The service is always pleasant. The team seems to enough their job. Tonight Jovanny was our service is he was amaze! When I return I'll be sure to ask for him again.

Yelp
Great food! Very good chicken burrito, pickup was very quick and before the estimated time. Thanks, Don Barriga!

Yelp
After it snowed in Philadelphia was the only one in the restaurant on my lunch break and I ordered three chicken tacos. Being that I'm the only person they can take all the time they need to cook my food. Within 2 hours I had to leave work due to under cooked chicken. My body was trying to take it out, but it couldn't process it. 11 o'clock at night I was throwing up. And on the toilet all night long. It's 12 in the afternoon next day and I'm still feeling dizzy and sick I had too call off of work today btw Highly recommend eating potato soup with electrolyte Gatorade after they mess your system up

Yelp
Picked up food from here today! Bustling on a Saturday morning. I ordered online and the service was great, with the food ready before the quoted time. The food was some of the more solid Mexican food I've on the east coast, so I will definitely be back!

Yelp
came in on a friday afternoon for an early dinner. no wait, BYOB, reasonable prices, and truly unlimited chips/salsa (the chips are freshly fried tho!) that I could honestly get full off of with a good drink imo not as good as some of the mexican food on the other side of the river, but if you're in ucity and crave a solid burrito, this is a cute spot! ended up as $21/pp after tax and tip and we had some leftovers too!

Yelp
Don Barriga Mexican Grill was good. The reviews for this place were good and so we came here. It is open late which was also great. We came here around 8pm and it wasn't too busy. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and polite. She was a great server. Our food was delicious. It was great Mexican food. The atmosphere was great. There was a pretty mural on the wall. The restaurant does have four steps to get inside. I highly recommend Don Barriga Mexican Grill.

Yelp
It's not often that I find a place that has a rich variety of food, but also offers up some relatively cheap eats. This is one of those places. I had my first Gordita, and was extremely happy about the fact that it was only $6. I'd have given it 5 stars but for the fact that the chorizo here was a bit lame (it lacked the punch that I normally associate with chorizo). Overall it's definitely worth going to!

Yelp
A gem! If you like Mexican food like I do, and you enjoy SPICY AUTHENTIC SALSA, please come here. I got an order of chicken tostadas, guacamole, and chips. Salsa verde and rojo come with every order. This spot is in university city- so I am sure the college kids love it here. The menu is EXTENSIVE, so be sure to stalk it for weeks prior to visiting like I did. They have beautiful decor, and outdoor seating. Prices are reasonable, and this is a great spot to go with friends or for a date.

Yelp
The only bad thing I can think to say about Don Barriga, really has nothing to do with the restaurant. The parking in the area sucks, but the food is worth the hassle! Dined in at DonBarriga on a random weekday for a late lunch. My husband and I were the only people dining in for most of our time there, but they were hustling out tons of to-go orders. Collectively we ordered 'Fajitas Don Barriga' and a 'California Burrito'. The portions are hefty, the service is quick and the flavors are authentic. ProTip: BYOB!

Yelp
I was in the area and it IS Tuesday so why not. I'll preface this review with I just relocated from LA, so tacos and Mexican food in general is my thang. I also don't like writing unsavory reviews as I believe there is always room for growth in anything! So let's get to the deets. I ordered an asada burrito and 3 tacos (because you can't just order 1) so I got the carnitas, Al pastor, and lengua (tongue). The burrito was massive it came with a side of chips and guacamole, which was good. I'm not really used to crema on my burrito but it was tasty. The steak however lacked a bit of seasoning for my liking, but with the salsas it was good. The Al pastor taco was very tasty as was the carnitas. The lengua on the other hand was a bit tough and sliced lengthwise and I'm more used to cubes of it in a taco. The red and green salsas were yummy and I appreciated the limes and cuke slices, but missed the radishes. Overall, I will probably be back but please add utensils and napkins to takeout orders. I don't want to was a fork if I'm ordering out! ;)

Yelp
Went here for lunch with family from the area (but a fair drive away) and we had a great lunch. We had a variety of things from tacos to flautas and everything was delicious. Service was friendly and answered all our questions about gluten free options. Chips and salsa start the meal and they are very good. While I can't compare any other options for mexican in Philly, this place will certainly deliver a good meal to you.

Yelp
Yes I drove here just to get churros and although it wasnt a super far drive, it was worth it. I havent actually had their food yet but the churros were good, warm and tasty. The place looked pretty clean and the employees were nice

Yelp
Great little place with authentic Mexican food. Coming from Southern California, the lengua, Barbacoa, chorizo, and horchata were absolutely delicious and reminded me of home. Go here!!

Yelp
Great food. Helpful staff. I've been there over a dozen times and always recommend that friends go there too. The ambiance is casual and fun.

Yelp
Food and Drink Ordered: * worth trying - [Nachos Don Barriga*]: The portions are HUGE. I've tried to split this with four people and the nachos always win out in the end. I love the taste of their tortilla chips so the addition of the different meats and all the fixings make them that much better. - [Molcajete]: Almost like a make your own tacos. Once again, the portions are really big. The meats were a bit dry but the flavor was good. - [California Burrito*]: A must order! And the French fries are a perfect addition. - [Hibiscus Agua Fresca*]: I love hibiscus but it's definitely an acquired taste. It's both fruity and floral but, if that seems too intimidating, the mango agua fresca is a safer choice. Would I go back? : For sure! I came here on a recommendation from my coworker who said they had the best Mexican food in Philadelphia and I definitely agree with that statement.

Yelp
Coming from LA, I definitely found the tacos here to be subpar but this place has decent Mexican food for University City. Amazing service here! Everyone is super kind which makes the dining experience much more enjoyable. :)

Yelp
I've had plenty of Mexican food, but this was the best restaurant I've been to in a while. Not only was the service fast, the food was excellent, the portions were HUGE and the price point was perfect. We started off we the nachos which were generously covered in toppings. Then I got the California burrito with a scoop of guac on the side which was tasty. I also had a taste of the birria which made me wish I had chosen that over the burrito. Next time, though. Lastly, we ended with the Tres Leches cake and the fried plantains. Each were a great option for "something sweet" after the meal. After all of that had multiple boxes to go. I think next time, I would love to go in a large group to try more of the menu items. All in all, a great restaurant and is definitely at the top of my list to return to again.

Yelp
Climbing up to Don Barriga from 40th street, I was pleasantly surprised by the low, low prices for what everyone said was amazing food. With free chips and salsa greeting us as we waited for our food, I was excited for the main meal solely based on the amazing spice and taste of the tortilla chips and red/green salsa. The mole sauce enchilada was solid - chicken a bit dry, mole sauce was a bit weird for me, the beans and rice complimenting the amount of mole sauce spread on the plate. The portions were extremely generous and I would 100% ask others to go back with me to try the other menu items.

Yelp
The legendary street food stylings of Mexico City that you've heard of? It's alive in Don Barriga. Tripa, al pastor, and carnitas is all you need, baby. Everything on their menu is good. I don't really need to go into detail as much as you need to try it. Go there, preferably with 5-6 friends, and order the whole menu. I'm gonna be that guy for a minute. I recently traveled to CDMX for 8 days. I ate at every taco joint where there was a standing-room-only crowd that I could find. I've had at least 40 tacos in my stay from 10-12 different taco stands and restaurants. And, I have to say that the folks at Don Barriga would kill it on the streets of Mexico City. In fact, my food tour of Mexico City made more sense BECAUSE I'd been to Don Barriga. For real. Example: cucumbers are regularly served with tacos. Who knew? Don Barriga, that's who. Also, if you're in Mexico City at a taco stand, those aren't just plain grilled onions. Those are grilled onions with little strips of habanero pepper hidden in there. Beware of flavor (and fiery assholes)!

Yelp
Updated with more items I've tried: We've had delivery from them a few times during the pandemic. Don Barriga's has great Mexican food & they deliver -- it's super convenient and efficient! All the food I've had from them is good. Here are some more details about the food -- I use ^ to indicate a half-star and * for a full star. So, ***^ means 3.5 stars: ****^ Burrito pastor was amazing comfort food. The rice inside was tasty and perfectly textured, and I really liked the green peppers inside. Came with a side of (very limey) guacamole and nachos. ****Quesadilla pastor was good. The pastor is not as flavourful as it could be, but it was still good & very satisfying. **** Quesadilla with beef tongue was good **** Burrito pastor didn't have green peppers one time (for unknown reasons), so it was not quite as good **** Chile rellenos: good comfort food, stuffed peppers, egg ***^ California Burrito with steak: steak was a bit tough, but otherwise the burrito is good. The French fries inside were nice & worked ***^ Gordita beef tongue: Beef tongue was quite good in texture, in a little flat sandwich. *** Gordita tripe: Tripe was solid & had a good texture. *** Sope chorizo: Solid, though not my fave. The chorizo is on an open-faced tortilla with refried beans, lettuce. DESSERT ***** Flan Napolitano: silky, smooth, delicious

Yelp
Had such high hopes for this spot Food was ok got shrimp tacos & the shrimp was soo over cooked & hard to chew The birria tacos were good flavor wise just didn't seem fresh Staff was not the most pleasant there was 1 girl in there that even acknowledged me when picking up (Clear glasses on) she was the only nice one the rest were miserable $60 for some sad ahh tacos

Yelp
Hole in the wall taco shop in Philly. 2 steak tacos and 1 chorizo The chorizo was one of the best authentic tacos I have ever tasted. Good food. Good service.

Yelp
I order mole enchiladas whenever I find them and the mole sauce here was excellent! Chips were unusually good also. Our server was kind and lovely. Ambiance fine, I wouldn't say comfy or inviting for a long meal but I'd DEF come back for the mole and would have it often if I lived closer!

Yelp
Excellent service. It was a very fun experience. My server was patient with me because it was my first time there, so I asked lots of questions. The Molcajete (hot rock served with steak, chicken, chorizo, pork chops, scallions, shrimp, jalapeno peppers) was awesome. They don't serve alcohol here, but they have some very good Horchato. This is easily one of the top 2 or 3 Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. You have to dine here

Yelp
If y'all are ever in town and craving some comida, Don Barriga Mexican Grill do be hittin' the spot. Can't say how authentic the fare is given my somewhat limited exposure to the cuisine (apart from... uh... Chipotle), but in any case, Don Barriga has good eats at reasonable prices. This time, I ordered the Burrito California ($12 on Grubhub, but cheaper in-person?) and Beef Tongue Gordita ($4.50), the former to appease the lame-o American in me and the latter to satiate my ~adventurous~ side. The Burrito California comes with a scoop of homemade chips and guac. Very yum. The burrito itself is a fat hunk of a thing: tortilla encasing spiced rice, steak strips, and veg. It's fully two meals, and I think I have a decent appetite. It also comes with a kiwi salsa and a(n actually) spicy red sauce which pair surprisingly well together. The Beef Tongue Gordita we tried on a whim. The corn shell was tasty, crunchy, but the star of the show -- la lengua -- was devoid of seasoning. A scoop of the side sauces quickly mitigated this problem, but twas not the shining star we had hoped to try. No big deal though. Life goes on.

Yelp
I can't believe it's taken me so long to write this review. My only excuse is that every single time I want to write a review, I've already devoured my entire meal and have no pictures to show, but this time I made the effort to take a photo before engorging. My absolute favorite thing on the menu is their chicken tacos, as simple as that sounds (for the record chicken is the only protein I eat on their menu, so I can't judge their others). The chicken is always well seasoned and flavorful, the meat is not dry. The tacos are loaded and not shy with the amount of chicken per taco. They are served with limes, radishes and cucumbers and 2 salsas (one mild green salsa and a red smokey spicy salsa). The salsas are both perfection, incredibly flavorful and add such a nice touch to the tacos. Their nachos are also delicious. I used to love the nachos at Loco Pez, and don't get me wrong they're still a great option especially on happy hour. But Don Barrigas I find more flavorful, and very generous portions just like Loco Pez. There was a time that my husband and I were starving, so we both ordered an entree and nachos for an appetizer. Once the delivery arrived, we both literally laughed out loud because the nachos were huge - neither of us even got to dig in to our entrees. My hubby also said he loves their chicken enchiladas. Highly recommend Don Barrigas for your Mexican food cravings. Their service is always friendly too! Can't wait to go back and eat more and try more items... if I can resist their tacos.

Yelp
Good mexican place. Food very flavorful and service was ok. We ordered the nachos Don Barriga, choriqueso and guacamole: they forgot the guacamole: the nachos and queso were very good and flavorful. The quesadilla is as very unusual but tasty. Cool pictures on wall but they should have double doors because they veryyome someone else aloes in a rush of cold air would come in and freeze us. They have a variety of item based on their menu: the fajitas with shrimp chicken pork and bacon were excellent. I would definitely come back!

Yelp
Don Barriga is on the corner of 44th and Spruce Street. They're currently open for dine-in at 25% capacity, takeout, and you can order delivery through multiple platforms. However, the prices are more expensive on Grubhub so order through Don Barriga's website or call instead! I got the Carnitas Burrito ($10) and the Beef Tongue Gordita ($4). I thought the meat in my burrito was a bit bland, but I tried my friend's Beef Burrito and it was so much more flavorful so I'd recommend that one instead! I loved that each burrito came with a size of chips and guac, and Don Barriga certainly doesn't skimp on portions. The texture of the corn dough on the Gordita was super crispy and I'd suggest adding the red and green sauce for a little kick and extra flavor. TLDR: Yummy Mexican food and huge portion sizes. Plus the burritos come with chips and guac!

Yelp
This is my go to spot for Birria tacos and consome. I really should try some other dishes here but the Birria tacos are just so good I cannot resist!!!!!

Yelp
Good food, cheap prices, big portions, great service; what's not to love?! They give you free chips and salsa when you arrive! We ordered the steak fajitas and carnitas tacos. The tacos were not dry at all and the fajitas were delicious too! The portions are crazy so you will have some leftovers. I also asked for extra limes and they gave me literally like three whole limes LOL Everything tasted fresh and our waitress was lovely :) Definitely recommend coming!

Yelp
Great restaurant! Portions are sooo generous and the cannoli dessert was also great! Came for a friend's bday celebration and the staff was so friendly and helped sing happy birthday too

Yelp
I have been a customer at Don Barriga Mexican Grill since they opened a few years ago. I love every meal I've tried at this place. The Fajita Don Barriga and Nachos are my favorite. Photos coming soon next time I visit. The most recent time I ordered the tamales with chicken and red sauce. It was good and lightly flavored. I also ordered the guacamole and pico de gallo with chips. Everything was flavorful and filling. You can not go wrong with a meal from this place because everything is tasty and good quality.

Yelp
Second time ever at Don Barriga, and this time it was to satisfy a burrito craving. While my partner wasn't dazzled when he tried one several months ago, I'm happy to not have let that deter me, because the vegetarian burrito is pretty fantastic. Huge, served with a generous dollop of guacamole and tortilla chips too, this is easily two delicious meals for me. The awesomeness was enough to bump my rating from an initial 4 stars to a full 5! Also, can't neglect to mention the great service during COVID19 restrictions. On a Friday night, here was one table being served indoors, one outside, and a row of takeout orders waiting to be picked up - they're understandably busy, which will hopefully keep them around for many years to come!

Yelp
Ordered form here for take out and was so impressed that we came back for dinner another day. Im always scared to get takeout nachos cuz they often get soggy but even with take out, their nachos stayed crisp and sooo good. We loved all the food we ordered - shrimp alambra, don barriga alambra, chorizo queso, gringas (table fave), and the birria quesadillas. Their red hot sauce was also notably delicious. Not only did it have a good spice, but it was so flavorful too. We also got the horchata but unfortunately I felt it was too cinnamon forward. Kind of tasted like drinking the big red gum . Service was great and it's BYOB which is always a plus. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
Food really impressed me but the seating options were not fantastic. The food options were quite vast which gave a lot of good options to pick from

Yelp
wow. i door dashed this and was not expecting them to pop off like this. flavor portion speedI ordered green cause veggie enchiladas and it came with a side of rice and a side of beans as well as 2 salsa? one was spicy and one was not spicy but both were super flavorful. the overall dish was super flavorful. and the best thing yet, the portion is HUGE. I was literally shocked when I saw it. it's well made food i'm very happy with what I got. I would show picture but I ate it already.

Yelp
Alright, here's why Don Barriga is my favorite - and they even delivered my food to the wrong house tonight! I still rock with them. I've been ordering from here for about a year. Like, an embarrassing amount because they're my go-to. Food is always hot and tastes great, plenty of options, even their breakfast is delicious. Almost always very quick delivery. Good desserts, too. Tonight, I ordered food and got a text from their driver showing a picture of food at the front door. Unfortunately, it wasn't actually my front door. It took them about 30 mins to get that delivered to whoever that lucky person was. I called and they apologized immediately, driver confirmed he dropped it off several blocks away, and they would remake it. The person on the phone at the shop was super sweet, even though I know from experience how frustrating this kind of stuff is on their end. Within 30 minutes, a new hot meal was delivered to the correct address. So in about an hour, these folks prepared the same order twice and delivered both orders. Some places that are of similar distance from my home can't manage to get a single pizza delivered in less than 90 minutes. The shop also sent free tres leches with a smiley face drawn on the container for the trouble :') These little things are why I'm a regular here, and it's stuff that any good business should strive for by default. Quality food, kind employees, consistency, and small details like a smiley face drawn on a plastic container make loyal customers.

Yelp
Best Mexican food in the neighborhood. Quality ingredients and all fresh. Easy and Fast service. Highly recommend the carne asada platter.
google avatar

Dee K.

Yelp
Ordered for takeout and I was impressed. I can only imagine how the food would taste coming straight to your table if dining in. Since I was craving Mexican food, I decided to give this place a try. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it was so tasty and big enough for two. I also tried Pechuga Asada and that was plentiful. Full of so much flavor! The pico de gallo is super addictive that makes this dish amazing to me. That dish came with tortillas for you to make what you want. The sauce really sets it off, red and green. I give this rating based off taste and portion size.

Yelp
As we all know ordering food and supporting restaurants during the current crisis in our society is more challenging than we all anticipated. But I will say that Don barriga really did a great job adjusting and service is even faster than ever in terms of ordering take out and no delay times or confusion with picking up food or options with hanging with cash or credit card by phone and spirits seems to still be pretty positive with the staff here as they were very welcoming at the door when exchanging payment and food. I ordered the enchilada with chicken and spicy sauce and of course a tres leches cake! I've had this before and it never disappoints, and they're also seems to feel like more food and then ever in this bag. So if y'all don't hear from me for a few days, just know that I am in a happy food coma somewhere and at some point I'll wake up and say hello to my Yelp family lol

Abigail P.

Yelp
Food is always solid, if not great. Breakfast options are the best selection. Quick, prompt service and nice location

Yelp
Excellent tacos. I had the lengua (cow tongue) One of the best I've tried in the area! My wife got the Steak Alambre with shrimp and chicken added. She loved it! Will be going back soon!

Ramona H.

Yelp
Food is not good. Flan is horrible & not made in-house like the server swore after seeing her open & take it out the container. The birria is FLAVORLESS! FLAVORLESS! NO ALCOHOL HERE! NO margaritas. The shrimp fajitas were scarce and just a large plate of peppers and onions. Service was good despite below mediocre food.

Kat F.

Yelp
I love the california burrito, azteca soup, and fresas con crema are my go-tos. I definitely recommend if you are able to stop by for lunch
