Note: 5 Spot reopened under new ownership, Arista Catering. Yay for reopening an iconic anchor up on Queen Anne!
I had been going to 5 Spot under the previous Chow Foods group since the get go when I was a Queen Anne resident many moons ago. Remember when 5 Spot, Hi-Life, Endolyne Joe's, Atlas Foods, and Coastal Kitchen were all under one united Chow Foods? This was well before the days of Yelp, IG and social media platforms. You wanted hardy food, regional themed eats, three squares and a late night meetup, plus terrific ROI / bang for your buck? This was your happy place. Content nostalgic sigh.
Then came the darn pandemic, shut-downs, supply chain issues, ad naseum which sadly the original 5 Spot succumbed to.
Well kudos to Arista Catering for resurrecting 5 Spot and they are currently finding their own identity and stride.
Street parking available - just pay attention to zoned areas. Same bright interior with various seating configurations and full bar. Very pleasant host and waitstaff plus efficient kitchen crew.
I visited mid morning weekdays for breakfast fare during my two visits on 8/1/22 (two top by entrance) and 8/23/22 (two top in bar area). I was seated immediately and received my meals in a reasonable amount of time after orders placed. This post does not comment about weekend visits or for lunch. Currently, they're offering both breakfast and lunch with a nice menu variety that's bound to please just about everyone.
Breakfast on 8/1/22 was two pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon. Decent, but definitely doesn't hold a candle to OG Kathryn's Grand Slam. This had been my gold standard for decades.
Breakfast on 8/23/22 was the Ham Scram with hash browns and biscuit.
This was much better - generous savory ham cubes with fluffy scrambled eggs with melty cheddar cheese. The hash browns had a crisp exterior and tender interior, not greasy a plus! Biscuit looked unassuming. But once opened, I really liked the soft interior crumb, tasty! Served without any butter pats or freezer jam or jam packets. Upon request, I received a plummy jammy confection but it wasn't really spreadable.
After watching several cinnamon rolls come through the expeditor station, I added one to go. Nice to see onsite baked goods.
Overall - it's a three, but upped to a four for the FOH/BOH staff. Very welcoming, friendly, and efficient for both visits. Very pleased to see 5 Spot return and wishing Arista Catering all the best to keep it sustained.
