We've always wanted to try this place, but never got a chance until this Christmas.
We had our Christmas party booked, and arrived one by one. I loved that we were greeted promptly and our coats were taken to coat check, very nice.
Our table, for 18 people, was set up upstairs in a private room.
Coming here I knew that this used to be a family house and later was utilized to house the 529 restaurant.
It's old, and squeaky, no musty or moldy smell, which I appreciate.
Dark colors all around - carpet, walls, drapes on the windows.
And still it has a warm and homey feeling to it, I felt very comfortable here.
We had shareable appetizers - giant shrimp, shripm cocktail, dry ribs, garlic bread. Of all the appetizers I only enjoyed the dry ribs, very good.
My main was a 10 oz steak. It was okay, I have had better. The sides were again shareable - potatoe gratin was too oily, and didn't have enough spices; mini fried mushrooms were okay, again not enough spices; and sesame fried peas, those were good, I enjoyed the rich salty sesame taste.
And then desert! Oh wow! Whatever that was that I had, sort of chocolate cake, it was very, very good - smooth, rich in flavor and had tasty garnish.
All in all worth visiting, the service was outstanding, but don't expect too much of the food.
