Google
They lock their doors at 6:30 when its posted 7pm everywhere. Their buffet lunch is skimpy & their meat prices are more expensive. Deluxe Meat market on Elizabeth / Mott is better all around.

Hank Chang

Google
Sister grocery to the Deluxe Food on Elizabeth, actually I find this grocery store better stocked and cheaper prices than that one. Not all the same selection, true, but definitely cleaner and less crazy. (notably missing the giant fish section)

Yunfei Ren

Google
Very clean! The meats look fresh and the hot deli section has a lot of variety.

Google
great market; super lively. I come here for any fresh cuts of meat I need

Yelp
Nice selection of Asian foods and spices also good meat in another section loved that they had baby Bok Chou and other good veggies

Yelp
A typical cramped Chinese market with meat, produce and prepared foods They had a good selection of specific items you might need for Asian cooking. The produce seemed pretty fresh and reasonably priced as well. The space is pretty narrow so when busy you'll likely be pushed by other customers, oblivious to social norms. The store seemed cleaner than some other markets which was nice.

Yelp
Sister market to the Deluxe Food market up on Elizabeth north of Canal and a chain of stores across the city, they have similar signs, but often different pricing. A small hot food section, and mostly fresh and frozen meats here. Big long meat counter. You can come here for reasonably good cuts at different prices sometimes from the store on Elizabeth, interestingly enough. Usually I don't have time to go back and forth between the two, so I pick whichever is closer to the place I'm eating at.

Yelp
I got a pork belly from this store three weeks ago as it was unusually cheap. There was a reason for the cheap price. Ones I got seems like fake pork belly that put a cheaper part of the pork together with some fat and glue. Check out youtube vedio how some business makes fake pork belly. What I got looks exactly what the youtube describe for the fake pork belly. It tasted nothing like pork-belly when I tried some of it. I tossed the rest...

Yelp
I wanted to try cooking Chinese-style chicken feet at home and was looking for a grocery store that sells them. And this place does! (pics) Yay. So yeah, if you're looking for a grocery store in NYC that sells chicken feet...they do. The fresh veggie selection is pretty solid as well....

Yelp
59 Bayard Market is likely a sister grocery store of DC Meat Company on Elizabeth St. where DC has branches in Flushing and in Brooklyn. The original Bayard Market on the right entrance sells groceries where seniors can use their food stamps, while the Bayard Meat Market on the left entrance sells cooked items. After seeing that the store on the right does groceries, I went to the Meat Market. The workers are going around filling orders and restocking items. One employer helped me get the zongzi and lo mai gai dumplings. After getting the products, the checkout line was starting to form a line, so the employee who help me with the dumplings came over and checked me out.

Yelp
They sell fresh meat, marinated and precook foods I don't buy meats from them . They add water to the beef , the radish cake is terrible , no other ingredient other than radish and a little ground pork , very watery , not worth the $6 . The pre marinated and precook food will not last more than 24 hours . If you buy , you should eat it right away or it will go bad.

Yelp
Love the prepared foods section in this no-frills market! The pork, egg, and rice dish is only $2.50 (comes with yu choi as well!) and the soy sauce chicken is very solid at $8/half chicken. The staff here are also very friendly and helpful. Great for grabbing both groceries as well as prepared foods for those days when you don't want to cook. They also have fresh-squeezed orange juice at the cash register as well!

Yelp
Quality Chinese butcher shop that offers traditional Chinese staples of ground pork, fish, whole duck, whole fish, whole chicken with the head (Lo Fans despise having the head of a chicken on their dinning table) but it is vital for worshipping and honoring our late relatives. Hot prepared foods are also available. 中 秋 節 Zung1 cau1 zit3 (Zhōng qiū Jié) Mid Autumn Festival is tomorrow! Price is reasonable. It gets the job done when grocery shopping to celebrate Chinese holidays and everyday living to desire such Asian food staples. Large meat shop with two adjacent joining addresses: 57 Bayard Street and 59 Bayard Street. High quality produce specifically for Chinese.

Yelp
This place is where I buy my meats. The price is so cheap and I think it is super. The same company owns deluxe supermarket so they have the same distributor as them. I think the quality here is slightly below that of Deluxe supermarket but it is notably cheaper. If you compare the same item to item, the ones at Bayard is definitely more affordable. Classic Chinese super market. No frills. Good products on sale.

Yelp
I really like this place! The food toward the back of the store is soooo good, and very affordable. There is not sitting area, so this is a strictly take out place. Keep in mind that this is a meat store that also offers cooked food.

Yelp
Had never been to a Chinese market where I asked for oxtail and the butcher claims that they only cut up the oxtail for you only if you purchase the entire tail. I asked for 1lb, not 2, and the butcher behind the counter said he doesn't do 1lb, so I said but your meat says by the lb not by the piece. I have no idea if the butcher was a worker or the owner but either way that's not how anyone should be conducting business.

Yelp
Great place, both storefronts. Good selection, good prices, nice service, and meticulously clean. Love all the marinated meats. The ground pork with preserved vegetables made for a really delicious dumpling filling. Bonus points for their proximity to the pork buns at Mei Lah Wah, across the street.

Yelp
They are associated with Deluxe Food Market, a fact made obvious by the Chinese name and lettering. I've been there many times but this is my first time visiting this store. First of all it's divided in two; on the left there's a meat market, and on the right there's produce and packaged goods. They have a slightly different selection than Deluxe Food Market, but often this place has cheaper prices for the same item. Looks like I'll be coming here more in the future!

Yelp
A little pricier than some of the other places around here. But it is the sister shop to Bayard Meat Market, so we stopped here to get our seafood (mostly because it is extremely clean for a Chinatown establishment). We got some fish fillets, great quality without water and bone mass which was nice. You grab what you want and give it to the nice Chinese man who sticks a price on it. We got two fillets for $4. Not bad at all! There is a credit card minimum of $10.

Yelp
Orange juice. You didn't expect that one did you! Yes, I drop by here for fresh squeezed Orange Juice! It's delicious. There are two sides to the Bayard Meat Market, 59 is the butcher. 57 is a deli with cooked foods and fresh squeezed orange juice at the front. Mmmmmm.... I feel like getting some of this fresh orange juice right now just thinking about how fresh and sweet and tangy it is because it just came out of an orange that morning. Better than Tropicana which has a thick taste to it because it's been homogenized.

Yelp
Great selection of some of your basic seafood, and not so basic (gator paws) at reasonable prices. Though a little tight on space.

Yelp
Every time I'm in New York my mother sends me out to find Orchard Sausages. The first time 7 years ago, she sent me to Orchard Street in Chinatown to find this factory that moved to Brooklyn a week prior I got into town. Flash forward to this year and armed with the knowledge of knowing that they sell to groceries, I was able to get a suitcase worth of cured duck legs, pork belly, and lap cheong. Bayard Meat Market seemed to be one of the few places in Chinatown that carries the local Orchard Sausages as everybody else seemed to carry Kam Yen Jen (which makes this Seattle boy proud, but not what I want for local flavor).

Yelp
So this seems to be the only place in NY to get reasonable prices for meat and things like Chicken Bones (for making my stocks) for a buck. They have pre-cut meats and then butchers to take your order. They also have cooked foods like fried rice, fried chicken wings, and tofu. Love this place for the stuff they carry. Minus 2 stars because of the bitches who work there. I'm very familiar with the chinese gruffness that comes with all service oriented interactions (see My Mom) but they were super rude to me about credit card minimums and were throwing shit around while talking shit about me in Chinese. Hello. I look obviously asian - did you think there might be a chance that I can understand you? Anyway, if anyone has suggestions on new places to buy cheap meat, let me know. The last time I was in there I called the cashier a bitch and may have worn out my welcome.

Yelp
Every week I head into Chinatown after work to get groceries, and this is where I get my meats. The place neat and clean, (though a bit narrow), and I can usually find what I need for the week. For those that don't speak or read Chinese, many of the butchers can communicate with you in broken English, (though the quest for fresh cuts of meat transcends all languages). By the way, the rows of prepared meat dishes on the top row on display are great for when you don't have time to cook. Grab a pound for two people, bring it home and steam for 15 minutes. Add a side of noodles and bam! Dinner!

Yelp
My mom has been shopping at Bayard Meat's for as long as we've been in New York; it's one of our primary meat markets. I find that the service is much better in this one than at the other ones where we shop; the ladies at the cashier always give extra white plastic baggies if you ask. And they chop up the meat very nicely, just the way you ask.
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent array of fish at more than reasonable prices. They didnt do a great job with the filet job though although fish was really fresh. Two whole tilapia and three filets of sole for $15.00.
google avatar

Yelp
Sister store to the Bayard Market next door, which focuses more on fruits and veggies, the Bayard Meat Market sells meat and seafood. And very fresh meat and seafood. The one thing I can appreciate about this store, unlike other meat markets in Chinatown, is how clean the place is. And this one does not smell like a meat market, which can be very pungent in certain meat markets in Chinatown. I am all about hygene when it comes to where I shop. And the seafood? Well, my mom purchased a few pounds of the prawns, and from the outcome of her cooking, I was in shellfish heaven! Definitely have to keep this as my stop for fresh meats and seafood moving forward.

Yelp
How to act like a jerk in Chinatown: Walk into a meat market yelling through the entire store if they had roast duck, and when people hesitate to answer you, yell louder. The shoppers will hate you and the employees will hate you. This place is a pretty all inclusive meat market with awesome, cheap chinatown prices... I'm pretty sure I saw an alligator leg on ice, if your'e looking for more exotic meats. It easy to be in and out in quickly in Chinatown meat markets. Make sure you have cash.

Jolly H.

Yelp
Excellent smaller selection of fruits, meat, vegetables, sauces of its sister restaurant.

Yelp
Bayard Fish Market opened in Feb 2008 at the former location of Princess Lounge Karaoke Bar and Grill. They have a great selection of fresh fish and shrimps, seasonings, cooking oils and fresh vegetables. My mom always tells me if I shop here and next door at Bayard Meat Market, I don't have to go anywhere else and you know mommy is always right. Also, my mom swears the owners of the markets are brothers but don't take my word on that.

Yelp
To go place to shop for all types of meat for yakiniku or hotpot- thin sliced beef, steak, ribs etc, and any Asian delicacies you name it, such as my favorite red beans and green beans. Bayard, if only you appeared in my life earlier... I am so happy I found you!!!!
google avatar

Jimmy R.

Yelp
Excellent sea scallops. As with the other places in Chinatown, you have to know what you're doing, as the staff does not speak english (or pretends not to :)
google avatar

Yelp
Clean for a Chinese place, incredible! picked up some Maine lobsters, cut off their tails and ate lobster sashimi. Next time I want turtle soup and frogs i'll come here... yum yum next door the fresh chickens are really nice quality. also have quail, oxtail, partridge, silky chickens
google avatar

Yelp
If I don't need to pick up anything else besides fresh produce, I will come to Bayard Meat Market (and its sister store next door for veggies). For Chinese speakers, the butchers are really friendly, will happily tell you the best type and cut of meat to buy for whatever you want to cook and don't push you to buy more than you ask for (so if you ask for 1 lb of something, they give you very close to 1 lb). Prices are on par with HK Supermarket and quality of the produce is fresh. Every time I make Chinese roast pork I buy the cuts here and it always turns out amazing. Also their live fish are really fresh and delicious. There is a $10 minimum for card purchases. They will also happily accept your loose change, including pennies (just don't be annoying and go overboard with it).

Yelp
I was seafood shopping in Chinatown. I prefer shopping at Ocean Star and Win Choy Seafood markets over this shop. The other two have a larger selection of shrimp, fish, crabs, lobster, squid and many more options. This store is smaller and have less choices. Also higher prices. The shrimp looked very fresh, I wonder about the scallops though - they look very large, probably mostly water.
google avatar

Ell C.

Yelp
I happened upon this place a while back when I poked my head into the store out of curiosity. I knew there was a reason why I was drawn to the store but honestly not because of the meat. I thought I would try their home made dumplings and was instantly hooked. for 20 dumplings (shrimp, veg, pork) roughly $2.25-$2.75 a package is a STEAL! Boil up some water and toss in a bullion cube with the dumplings and you have instant dumpling soup to warm your innards during those frigid NYC days! Sometimes if you get the right cashier she will give you a free package of dumplings. Bring your own bag and they will thank you, really they will!
google avatar

Yelp
This place deserves recognition. It is very clean. Very affordable and relatively friendly (if you're not Asian). It has choice cuts of beef, pork and chicken. On the other side of the store (the seafood and produce side) you can get whole fish, prawns, shrimp basically everything seafood in many varieties at again, a very reasonable price. I will be going here next time I'm in need of good service and great food! Xièxiè Bayard Meat Market!!!!

Yelp
CAUTION: NOT FOR EVERYONE. this is a typical meat market located in the middle of Chinatown, please don't expect anything fancy because that's definitely what you won't find here. you have middle aged chinese workers who do not care about customer service but they will get their job done in servicing your needs. located on 59 bayard they have two storefronts both containing meats and vegetables. however one storefront has fresh food and this place is PERFECT for budget friendly lunch. you get a ricebox where you get to choose three sides from a variety of twenty different side dishes and this all comes out to be $3.50. chinatown may be known for the cheap food but with prices going up everywhere, it's impossible to find a ricebox for less than $5 and this is where 59 Bayard Market comes in! you get homestyle cooked chinese food without the MSG. please be aware that during lunch time it can get extra busy and the line gets a little long, before closing they pack everything into containers and sell it off for a cheaper price. no frills, nothing fancy, not the best customer service either nor may it be the cleanest place but if you are looking for a cheap lunch that will fill you up and reasonably priced meats + vegetables this is the place to go to.

Yelp
All meat, all the time plus some extras like sauces, tofu and a nice veg + fish market right next door. Great place for the staples and also the not so staples like ground pork, pork cartilage ribs and pork belly all for much lower prices than western grocery stores. Come in with a plan as no one's got time for the indecisive. If you're only picking up a couple things, also make sure you have cash on hand as there's a $10 minimum for credit card purchases. If you do not have this, you will absolutely get the stink eye... from everyone. I know from experience. Opposite from the meat counter are the prepared foods. The cha xiu here is spot on as is the soy sauce chicken. Skip the fried pork belly (too salty and not nice when cold) and the beef tendon (one note in flavor). Be sure to ask for the dipping sauces. Pretty sure there's heavy msg in them so they're extra delicious.

Vivien C.

Yelp
i bought a lunch box from this place, and there is a dead fly in it. so disgusting.
google avatar

Daniel W.

Yelp
It's a convenient market store to buy all grocery in one bag but recently these day, the fresh chicken and the cook chicken both soy sauce and plain are not fresh. Meat taste saggy. It's very unusual because my mother and I always shop there and this is still our favorite place to shop.

Caroline S.

Yelp
I love this place! Everything that I've tried so far in their cooked section is delicious. I have yet to try their dumplings, but will definitely need to try next time based on the other reviews. Tasty and cheap food - what else do you need in Chinatown? You don't come here for the service, but if you manage to speak a few words of broken Chinese to them, it goes a long way. Bring cash, because they won't take credit card unless you're buying more than $10, and even then, their credit card machines are down half the time.
google avatar

Eric T.

Yelp
If you can get past the alligator legs and the box full of sort-of-alive frogs, this is a great place in chinatown to do your seafood grocery shopping. On a relative scale, it's definitely one of the cleanest markets you'll find in the area, with a wide selection of goods of both the aquatic and non-aquatic variety. Prices, as with almost any place in chinatown, are hard to beat when compared to the rest of the city.

Helen K.

Yelp
I should start by saying my husband, toddler daughter, and I moved to TriBeCa from Atlanta, Ga about 6 months ago and while we're in love with the city, I've been experiencing grocery store sticker shock ever since. It took me a few tries to find the places in Chinatown I like to shop - namely, clean and offering a decent variety of food - but I finally did. And cut my grocery bill by two thirds. Just today, I left whole foods downright refusing to pay $10 for a ham hock to make a bean stew, especially since I frankly haven't been impressed with their meat or fish AT ALL, let alone their outrageous prices. I knew there had to be better (and cheaper :)) Better can certainly be found at the Greenmarket, but not cheaper necessarily). I'm so, so excited because I found this little gen only a few blocks from my apartment. I went with my little daughter today and the market was clean, smelled fresh. The selection was wide, though certainly different from what I'm used to but hey I'm not opposed to different! The meats looked quite fresh. The butchers were so very friendly and helpful even with our language barrier, downright charming! I left with ground beef, chicken breasts, and a ($3) ham hock. I've found my new meat market.
google avatar

Travis L.

Yelp
Amazing place to pick up produce, dumplings, and Asian spices. Hard to beat prices too.
google avatar

Anne L.

Yelp
Whenever I went to Chinatown with my family, we went here often for their hot food, which was delicious. We also purchased frozen wontons that became my breakfast. Just like how Barbecued Pork is made, they use the sauce to make boneless chicken drumsticks which is worth to try. Their fried fish is well seasoned too which I get as well when I go there.
google avatar

Xiaoxi C.

Yelp
The best place for fresh high quality produce meat, fish, vegetables, fruits with Asian household staples. Prepared foods are a plus too.
google avatar

Daniel W.

Yelp
This is the only meat markets in Chinatown that we have shopping for years. Great price and good customer services. I have acquainted with the staffs there and they acquainted with me. Every time I go there, they know me by name. They take credit card no more than $10 purchase and Food Stamps cards are all welcome.

Critic L.

Yelp
TOTALLY GROSS. I bought marinated beef ribs from this place and there was a freaking cockroach in it. Stay away!!!

Elie C.

Yelp
STAY AWAY from this place. We purchased food and after we paid, we noticed that was the container was spoiled. We had not yet left the cashier and asked to get a refund but they refused. The cashier claimed they did not know how to open the register. They stated that the manager was not available and that we had to return tomorrow for a refund. However, the sign posted at the register states that if we walk out the door there would be no refund. We stated that we would call the police and the SUPER nasty cashier taunted us to "go ahead, see if we care". So, we had to involve the police. The officers arrived and pointed out to the store that their policy stated that they must issue refund if we had not yet walked out. DO NOT SHOP HERE!!! The FOOD IS SPOILED AND THE WORKERS ARE HORRIBLE!!!
