This winter my wife and I spent four nights at the Casa Alvarez (62 St. Guest House). It was our first visit to Merida, heck it was our first trip to Mexico. We loved every minute of it, and it all began with the warm and homey welcome Miriam gave us when we arrived. The hotel is a boutique hotel with about twelve rooms. It was quaint, charming, friendly and located inside the town center area. My wife and I enjoyed walking the busy streets, people watching and just enjoying the charm and bustle of Merida. We used Merida as a base for day trips to beaches, flamingo watching and Mayan ruins. ||||Our room was on the second floor. Cozy and furnished nicely and with all the basic amenities (hot water, a/c) you'd need. It also had easy access to a rooftop deck where you could enjoy the night air. Everyone in the hotel was friendly and very free in sharing travel tips. ||||Without a doubt, one of our favorite hotel experiences ever. Highly recommended.

As it says, this is a guest house rather than a hotel so don't expect brand new furniture etc. But you can expect a very warm welcome from the lovely Miriam and spacious, clean rooms, a shared kitchen and other facilities in the room. The pool is small but great for cooling off.||||The location is good too. A walk from the main square of about three blocks.||||There is no breakfast but pop over the road to Opia for a reasonably priced breakfast or round the corner to Organico.||||All in all a great stopping place.

62 St Guest is the new name this year of what has always been known as the Casa Alvarez run by Henrique Alvarez and his sister Miriam. It is in Merida's Centro Zone just five blocks from the central plaza always bustling with activity and surrounded by wonderful restaurants. It doesn't look like much from the street, but inside it opens into a central garden with 14 unique rooms, seven downstairs and seven upstairs, all kept immaculately clean. There is a small, but always crystal clear pool surrounded by a sitting and lounging area. There's a large painted mural on one wall of the pool area depicting a bit of Merida's history, "Charley," the guard cat, and the two parrots vying for ownership with a small iguana of a tree just outside the pool area wall. There is communal kitchen that promotes a big-happy-family atmosphere amongst the guests. Henrique and Miriam and there staff are very knowledgeable of the city and surrounding areas, and couldn't be any more helpful. We stayed in a large upstairs room with an abutting outside patio overlooking the pool from which we often watched the drama of the dueling parrots and iguana. I highly recommend this small, but very friendly guest house.

I spent one night here and liked this guesthouse a lot. The staff was super friendly and helpful with everything. It was clean, perfectly located and had everything you need. AC, fan, little fridge, shared kitchen all included. I was supposed to spend 2 nights but check-in closes at 8pm. My flight was coming in late and they were so nice to call another hotel for me for the same price and wouldn't charge the "lost" night. Super friendly and caring!|Watch out for many mosquitos in the yard of the house because there is a lot of shade. Put insect repellent also during the day!!! Otherwise they eat you alive.||

Merida is full of hustle, music, dance and entertainment, but along the main road you can find Casa Alvarez Guest House, a wonderful calm and colourful retreat! ||The family are extraordinarily kind and so proud of their home, they have a lovely pool, a kitchen, a roof terrace, fridges in the rooms, comfortable beds, fantastic showers - every facility you need!||We booked a tour to see the Cenotes in Cuzama and they arranged the best tour for us - it was a spanish speaking guide (we both speak spanish) who was an expert in caves and cenote formations, so we had the most interesting informative trip with someone who absolutely loved what they did.||We felt secure and trusted at their guest house, there was no pressure to book for another night and pay immediately, they honoured you to be honest, and they really did look out for your best interests. A lovely family and a wonderful place to stay!!

Myriam and Enrique were extremely helpful and friendly. We loved being close to the historic centre and went out every one of our ten nights to free cultural events. Our room was clean and comfortable. We found the communal kitchen very practical and met interesting people thanks to it.

We arrived from the Merida airport at 8:pm and found the door to this place locked, the sign taken down. The taxi driver made several attempts to knock and call but no response. We had to find another place to stay. The next day we went back to make sure the credit card used was not charged and again we waited 10 minutes for someone to answer the door, The day manager explained that the sign was down because they were painting and renovating throughout. She was kind enough to call Booking.com to make sure the credit card was not charged, however we decided not to stay the week there,

Coackroches jn the room, very dirty kitchen. Expect no commercial gesture even when you stay four nights and mention the coackroches in the room - staff saw the coackroches.||Location is nice, short walk away from the main Cathedral and near a couple of lovely squares. ||It is pricy for what it is. You have some hostel a block away or nice hotels that will provide you with better value for money. |
