For those of you that may have forgot, the movie, Home Alone, was filmed in 1990.It is located in Winnetka, a small town, just outside of Chicago. I finally got the visit the house that it was filmed in and it still looks the same as it looked back 30 years ago. It was decorated for Christmas and had white artificial candels in the window.
The house is located in a semi high end neighborhood right outside of a small business district. With that being said, parking here to get out and take a closer look and get some photos is very easy. You can park along the street. Just keep in mind that you are not on a movie set and are in a real neighborhood, so be respectful of the residents. I took public transit to get here which consisted of a train, a couple of buses and a short walk. It was very easy to navigate though.
There was a constant flow of people coming through during my visit, so I would suggested getting your pictures and going, so that others may do the same. Some people were camping out there like they were making a pilgramge.
I visited at night, and here is a little tip. Try to stay away from the front of the drive way. There is a bright motion activated light that comes on if you walk by. It is very bright and shines right in your face. It also messes up any photos you may take. It goes off after about 3 to 5 minutes.
This is a nice thing to see, especially for Home Alone lovers. You can only see the outside, which is ok with me. I knew that going in. It would have been nice to be able to go in through. I am not sure if someone lives there, but there is someone obviously maintaining the home and they are doing a great job. I am glad I was able to check off this bucket list item. This is not a very long stop. I was there about 5 minutes, so, if you do plan on visiting here, I recommend making this part of a larger itinerary to maximize your trip.
