The lodge is in urgent need of renovation and new furniture. Unfortunately, everything smells strongly of damp and mould. After just one night, even our clothes and hair absorbed the smell, and we had to wash everything twice at a laundry on the Azores.
We asked for a change of pillows and sheets, but it made no difference. On the second night, we ended up sleeping on the couch in the living room, which also smelled, though slightly less.
This was especially disappointing as I was celebrating my 40th birthday and had hoped to enjoy the stay. Instead, it left us with a very negative impression of Sete Cidades. Considering the high price, the quality is far below expectations.
After two out of four nights, we decided to leave the property and book a new one, which turned out to be excellent and offered great service. I had hoped the owner might make some effort to improve the situation and not leave such a bitter memory of Sete Cidades, but unfortunately, he chose to ignore us.
Given the circumstances, I believe at least a partial refund would have been fair. Without it, the experience feels even more disappointing. With this approach, I’m convinced this property will not last long in the Azores accommodation market.
