Wimberley, Texas, Travel Guide

"7A Ranch has a long history in Wimberley. First opened in the mid-1900s, the property has provided a haven for travelers for over seven decades — expanding, renovating, and rebuilding along the way. Following 2015’s historic flood in Wimberley, 7A Ranch changed ownership, but it continues the previous owners’ original legacy with its 19 cabins, two four-room units, three 10-room lodges, and kid-friendly Pioneer Town." - Travel + Leisure Editors

7A ranch was the perfect location for our family reunion. Because our family was so large we had to divide up into two units - the Moonlight Lodge and Cantina Loft 8. They were close enough to each other that it didn't impact us at all. We loved the pool and really enjoyed strolling through Pioneer Town. Plenty for all of us to do - though we had so much fun at family meals and gathering around the large dining tables in the Moonlight Lodge. The units were very clean and very well equipped. And most of all, the staff were so friendly and helpful and accommodating. I can't say enough about their help. It was the best reunion we've had!

We stayed here with a large group (30 people) for a weekend get away. Great location with beautiful river access. Accommodations were great and had unique ability to have large group in a space where everyone could be close. There were large hangout areas and kitchens w/ large number of separate rooms with each room having its own bathroom.

Our family stayed in Classic Cabins 9, 10, and 11. Unfortunately, the cabins were outdated and not very clean. In our cabin, the toilet was broken and unstable when sat on. The grass was overgrown—especially near Cabins 10 and 11—making it hard to enjoy the riverfront view.||We were also disappointed that the train wasn’t running and the ice cream parlor closed early. Overall, the Classic Cabins are overpriced for their current condition and need significant upkeep.||That said, we did enjoy our time at the river and appreciated the location’s natural beauty.

Loved every minute of our stay here at 7A. The agave house is the perfect house for a large family gathering. The way the house is laid out with the kids room on one side of the house all other rooms on the other side and the master is in the back makes it absolutely perfect. The kitchen is well stocked in the agave house and the cantina cabins. Everything is nice meat and organized. We felt completely at home on this property no matter where we went. It was easy to navigate walk around to the multiple different units we rented. The pool was clean. The kids had a blast getting in the river and the pool. They loved the Easter egg hunt in Pioneer town. We cannot wait to come back and enjoy some more outdoor river time here.

Loved this place. We had an entire wedding party stay here for one week. It was quiet, and yet it had personality and lots of things to do. Going to the river to swim and float, hanging at the pool, wondering around the small pioneer town, and ice cream to name a few. I would go back and stay there if I am ever in the area. Highly recommended!!!

Sorry for the long read …. But RVers BEWARE….. No information was given concerning how to get to the property. For big rigs and motorhomes you need to come in on Green Acres Drive; River Road has many low hanging tree branches it is a very narrow road along with a single lane bridge crossing. I made the mistake of pulling into the first drive that had a 7A sign. It did state that the office was the second left. But we couldn’t see the larger parking lot until after we had pulled into the first parking lot that we were in. We stopped and got out to find the office and see where are camping spot was. We saw a 7A employee on a cart and we’re trying to get his attention he started to drive off but then he did come towards us. I tried asking him where the RV parking was and he wasn’t real sure but said I needed to go back out and that it was on the opposite side of the road. I was in a situation that I had to unhook my towed vehicle so that I could try to back out. The little paths were barely big enough for the vehicles that were driving on them. The employee with 7A offered NO ASSISTANCE in fact he left as we were unhooking the towed vehicle. We did get the motorhome turned around in the parking lot; but we also had some issues with all the low hanging branches. We went down to the driveway with the flag by the gate that the 7A employee had directed us to; and again it was actually the exit side that we pulled into at least this time there was room to turn around. We did get pulled into the right spot and started setting up; that’s when I realized I had caught a branch in there parking lot and it tore up the ladder on the back of the motorhome. We then went to the office and checked in I also asked to speak to a manger. Roy came out and said he was a manager… I then explained to him about everything that had happened and even the damage to our motorhome. I expressed my disappointment in his staff for not offering any assistance and didn’t seem to know where we needed to be he had a radio and never called for help. All Roy offered to do was to talk to his employees about offering better customer service. Without asking I truly thought Roy would offer some kind of compensation for the series of mishaps. I was still charged full price for the 2days that we stayed there. I’m not sure if I’ll ever stay there again, especially with the lack of customer service. RVers BEWARE so this doesn’t happen to you!!!

Stayed at Cabin #5 over Mother’s Day weekend overnight on Sunday May 11th. Pros: The location is ideal as it’s right by the Blanco river, grocery store and Wimberley Square just a few minutes away! The beds were comfortable and we were provided plenty of towels. I also had a great experience with their staff upon arrival. They were able to hold a cake in the fridge for me until my room was available. Cons: Check-in was at 4pm, which would be fine if the cabin itself had not been underwhelming right from the start. It felt humid inside and it was easy to tell the place had not been deep cleaned in a while. The baseboards were gross, the fridge looked sloppily cleaned, there were sticky spots on the kitchen floor and the AC unit in the living room smelled of mildew… just to name a few things. There must be an issue with their drainage system since the bathroom (with no vent) smelled horrible too. We ended up leaving a plug in air freshener in the bathroom and opened the window a bit. I was disappointed in the state of the cabin especially because it has so much potential to be a great and memorable stay. I wouldn’t book with 7A again unless conditions improve.

Yelp
This was such a fun place to have a conference. The Opera House is a great space for large meetings, complete with an area for serving food. Lots of tables and chairs as well as a stage for presentations. The entire pioneer town is quaint and fun to just stroll around. Some of the buildings, like the saloon, have mannequins on display that you can view from the window. Others you can go inside. One building contains a gift shop with items like jewelry and arrowheads as well as an enormous jackalope you can climb on top of and pay to have your picture taken. My room in Meg's Boarding House was clean and neat and very modern, complete with a flatscreen TV mounted on the wall. There was a coffee maker in the room, but no coffee. I thought that was really strange. There are cabins for rent here as well. This would definitely be a fun place to stay at with kids.

Yelp
We did a self-tour during what would be considered outside of tourist dates as we were the only ones there. The little "town" is undergoing renovations and upgrades but it didn't stop us from exploring. Situated along the water you really get the old Western town feel. The little locomotive was working and we did see people on it but opted to save that for the next time. We do want go back when everything is in full swing with folks dressed from the era, shops open, etc. Still, we had fun walking around and checking everything out. I just think this is such a cute experience for everyone.

Yelp
Went to this place for a comedy show! Yes a comedy show, in wimberly, and it was great! The community was great, the comics were great, and the venue was really neat. Has a cool haunted vibe, and the whole ranch has these old buildings that were brought together to make an old western town. Very cool, definitely work a visit.

Yelp
This place was so neat. It was free to walk around and i took my parents because we're all really into history. You can also stay here for the night which seemed super cool! Or you can pay to swim in the river after you check out the town. Make sure to go to the museum!! It was just wonderful and the lady was so kind. I want to go again and stay the night. They also have a gift shop with all the essentials and more. It was a lovely experience.

Yelp
I00% do not recommend. We stayed in the Big Star Lodge and it was a miserable experience. First, the rooms are on either side of a hallway. On one side, the rooms were almost 80 degrees while the other side was very cold. Also, there is absolutely no sound proofing. Every sound in the common room can be heard clearly in every single room. Late night partying or even loud conversation can ruin sleep for everyone else. The wifi provided less than 1mbps when I was the only one on it. What else: the sheets are rough as heck, like 100 thread count, like fine sandpaper. The handicap accessible room is NOT labeled, so we had to move little old ladies around in the morning so the grandmas could actually shower. A simple ADA accessible sign on the door would have saved a lot of grief. The kitchen worked well, but every clank of every pan echos into every room. Bottom line, this place is unsuitable unless everyone wants to party all night or nobody does. I was absolutely miserable. In the morning I heard someone say, "we we paid over $150 for this??" In the morning, multiple people were booking other hotels for the rest of stay. Just terrible. Avoid.

Yelp
We made a stop to Pioneer town and it was fantastic!! The workers were so nice, the cowboy museum was very cute and informative with lots of history in it. We loved the ice cream parlor, highly recommend pistachio ice cream! The old arcade games in the gift shop/welcome center were so fun! Will be returning if we are in wimberley again!

Yelp
I saw this spot on TikTok and wouldn't have ever known Pioneer Town existed had it not been for that video. What an awesome place to see! Although the town is closed because of Covid, the staff member working the ranch store said we were more than welcome to walk around and explore the town as well as walk down to the river access. We had a great time being the only two in the town, and we will definitely be back to stay once things go back to normal. Highly recommended for all ages.

Yelp
W just arrived into Wimberley and found this little place by accident. It is a cute little tourist spot with plenty of picture ops. We were there while they were preparing for a wedding. The saloon was decorated nicely waiting for the wedding guests and the chapel was just lovely. Made me wish I'd be getting married here! Great way to spend a few hours walking around and seeing some old relics!

Yelp
I have very fond memories of family reunions in the 70's and early 80's at the 7A Ranch Resort. As a kid, it was SO MUCH FUN to run around w/my cousins in pioneer town, going to the arcade, ice cream parlor, general store, riding the train. They have old cabins and buildings like a hotel, jail, doctor office that have big windows you can look in to see how people lived in the 1800's, and a whole little building/cabin that is built with glass soda bottles, and a blacksmith shop, and other buildings that a 1800's pioneer town would have. Also, back in the day, they had a "medicine show" that was a little stage on a covered wagon, so funny! Such a cool place! It's sad that over the years, it wasn't kept up good, and then the historic flood came thru about 5 - 6 years ago, (7A Resort is across the road from the Blanco River) the swimming pool was totally re-done and brand new guest cabins were built. Pioneer Town wasn't flooded, Thank God! As an adult, it's still fun to walk around there. The owners are building new train tracks, so that's a good sign. If I had enough money I would buy this place. If you are ever in the Wimberley area, go check out and/or stay at the 7A Ranch Resort and Pioneer Town. Good Times and Sweet Memories!

Yelp
Cute little hangout. Old school games and ice cream. This would make a cute spot for a western-themed photo shoot. Heard they were gonna bring back the train ride in about a year; this place has some fun potential!

Yelp
Very cute, some interesting old buildings. If you like historical stuff and western stuff, you'll like Pioneer Town. Not worth a trip by itself, but if you are in Wimberley for the weekend, it is certainly worth an afternoon.

Yelp
We visit Pioneer Town mainly for the Cowboy Museum run by Jack Glover - a real old Texas dude. He's a super nice guy and has an extensive collection of art and old fire arms - and a 5 foot tall jackalope you can take your picture on. Kids love it the place. So do I. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lThpxqucUkg

Yelp
I used to come here when I was a kid. The place is almost exactly the same which I loved. They have swimming, arcade, and an old fashioned ice cream parlor! Fun times, and there is also a little gift shop with cool goodies

Yelp
I LOVE Pioneer Town but you have to bring your sense of humor and irony. They have these great (read:terrible) set ups of mannequins playing cards and other household activities and an 8 foot stuffed "jackalope". There's never anyone there since the liability insurance forced the closure of the fort and the train so it's really desolate and rad. There's also an arcade and an ice cream parlor. Did I mention that it had it's heyday in the 60's?
