One of the best meals of the week. Definitely the best breakfast we had all week. The burrito was so worth it, and the maple bacon pancakes with the mac-nilla sauce were incredible. It is also fairly priced. Service was awesome. We got there early and didn't have to wait long. I wish I had time to go again.

One of our favourite places on the island for breakfast. They are always consistent. Came on a Tuesday. Usually they are really busy but something happened in the back so they were only open for takeout. We ended up ordering takeout but while we were waiting they reopened their dine-in and ended up with a table. We lucked out because they are usually slammed! Ordered the kawabunga breakfast and 808 grinds attack, both with crispy hash browns. Food came out quick and hot. Eggs were cooked perfectly and the crispy hash browns were so good. All time favourite thing here is the pancakes with their homemade mac-nilla sauce. I don’t often order pancakes, but I make an exception here just for that sauce. It’s so good

The wait is as long as advertised. Got there around 730 AM on a Saturday, got seated around 8:15, and the food came out around 8:45. Would recommend ordering as soon as you sit! The food was good, but not sure if I'd come back and wait next time. We got the loco mocos with different meats and shared the red velvet pancakes. The price was very reasonable.

Google
The BEST breakfast in Maui. All take-out and phones get busy as soon as they open, so make sure you call early. You can order once you get to the location, but you will have a long wait. However, I'd say it was worth it. We had breakfast here twice during our stay because the menu had so many items we wanted to try! Super tasty

Let me start by letting you know that you will have a wait a very long time to get seated and that choice will have to be made by you. If you don't want to wait long order take out and eat your food at a beach somewhere. Restaurant only has 7 to 8 tables at a time. It's small but the food is good and relatively cheaper than anywhere else in the island. We arrived at 7:45am knowing we would have to wait sometime. We got seated at 8:30am. We ordered food right away since we had time to take a look at the menu. Food arrived at 9:30am. We were done eating by 10:00am. You have to keep in mind that this is a privately owned establishment with minimal staff and seating which will lead to longer wait times. Parking. Before I headed out I noted some reviews stating people getting cited for parking violations. I played it safe and moved the rental car from spot to spot but I didn't see any parking police activity while I was there. I also saw people parking where it clearly said not to park and nothing happened to them. If I were you park where it clearly says 1 hour parking and move your car around. Option 2 would be find paid parking on front street if you want peace of mind. The food was great! I've never had anything like the breakfast burrito which isn't like your tradition burrito. It doesn't have a tortilla instead it's an egg blanket on top of rice topped with a special sauce that apparently you can get on the side if you ask. Macadamia pancakes were great as well. The macadamia glaze also had a very distinctive taste which followed me back home. I went to various breakfast spots on the island and without a doubt 808 was the one that left the biggest impression. TLDR: Long wait to be seated. Order to go instead. Order breakfast burrito sauce on the side. Try macadamia pancakes. Park in 1 hour parking and hop around.

The macadamia nut pancakes with macnilla sauce is good. The biggest drawback is the long wait, got there at 7:20am and got our food at 9am. So just factor that into your plans and expect a long wait, as there is only about 9 tables inside the establishment. Quite cold inside. No outside tables. I don’t think I would go back simply due to the wait, personally.

This place is a local MUST VISIT!! The food was fantastic and this family owned and operated business is a must for a quick breakfast bite. Sadly the inside was closed but we grabbed take out & sat outside as the weather was just wonderful. My husband and I were able to chat with the Father of the family and he was just so sweet and friendly. Thank you for a wonderful breakfast & much success to your restaurant!

Google
Tiny little cafe, seats maybe 25 at max, if there's a wait I'd say it's worth it! The banana pancakes with the mac-nilla sauce were seriously some of the best pancakes I've had in my entire life. So fluffy and flavorful. It's a small, friendly staff with a fairly good sized menu, prices were very reasonable, the coffee was fresh and the refills were frequent. I had the Kahlua pork benedict, my husband got the steak and eggs with the fried rice. Both were prepared exceptionally well, everything was fresh and came out so quickly.

Yelp
My gosh, this place was a gem for our family. Went to Maui before the fire and was hooked. We woke up super early and got there 30 mins before they opened. We were the 4th party in line. Once the restaurant opened, we sat down immediately. I'm not really a breakfast person since I normally am not awake. However, they knew I needed a morning aloha and asked if I wanted to try their coffee! Droopy as I was, I nodded and unknowingly I drank 3 cups of coffee. It was so smooth and toasty. Woke me up and I ate so well. I even asked the brand of the coffee and got some as my souvenir. Then, my mom accidentally threw out the bag and I have no recollection of the coffee brand. Been buying so many and it is not it! If anybody knows, please help! What is the brand of Kona coffee did they use? Can I order it from them somehow?

Yelp
Last time I was in Maui, I waited 24 hours for this food!! This time, my family and I were one of the firsts in line to eat INSIDE! We were here on a Sunday. Lined up by around 0630ish-0645ish. We got seated around 0715. The inside is exactly what you probably expect. A small yet comfy space to enjoy your eats. They can only take a few parties at a time to eat inside but if you're ordering take out, I suggest skipping the line and going to the front to let someone know or try calling. ⁣⁣⁣ We broke our fast with:⁣⁣⁣ - Da Bene Trio (Crab, salmon and kalua pork benedict!)⁣ - 808 Grindz Moco (Tender and juicy!)⁣⁣⁣ - Maui Style Croissanwich ⁣ - Ube Pancakes with a side of mac nut sauce (Must get for all you pancake/ ube lovers!!! The pancakes? Fluffy throughout and the ube flavor... wow! On point. It's also decent size for yourself or to share.)⁣⁣⁣ My dad and fiancé also got coffee which has free refills. We also got POG. Food came out a timely matter despite it already being sooo busy! They have great family-team work! They even sang my sister and dad a happy birthday which was very nice because they even brought out a candle to place on the pancake! Lol! ⁣⁣⁣ Overall, worth the wait every single time!! ⁣⁣⁣ Until next time! Mahalo 808 Grindz!

Yelp
I was referred to this place by fellow Yelper & local HI resident, Fran C., and this place didn't disappoint! I ordered the full stack (3 pancakes) of Ube Pancake w/ coconut ube sauce , the full stack Mac nut pancake w/ Macnilla sauce, the Makawowie Burrito, & Short Rib moco. I called in for takeout before I went to Safeway for some water and snacks and headed over from the Kaanapali area, and still had to wait a while. Turns out there was no indoor dining that day and things were taking a bit longer than usual due to a maintenance issue in the restaurant. We picked it up and headed to the Banyan Tree for a picnic and boy was it was with the wait! Both pancakes were scrumptious and he rest of my family really enjoyed the makawowie and moco and said they were both tasty. The only thing we were disappointed with was that the restaurant gave us a short stack (2 pancakes) of both pancake orders instead of the full stack we ordered, and the Makawowie Burrito really isn't a burrito. My sun was expecting a breakfast burrito type dish and it was all the ingredients in a take out container - no tortilla anywhere to be found. I think they need to rename that dish as it gives a false impression of what you are expecting to get.

Yelp
Food: 4.5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Overall: One of the best places to eat breakfast on the island in my opinion. Would I come back: A resounding YES. It's one of my favorite spots in Maui. The extended review... Food: Pancakes with Macnilla sauce - 5/5 - Now this is how pancakes should be done. The sauce is soooooo yum. Sugary but that's how I like it. I believe it's likely vanilla pudding with Mac nuts in it. Loco Moco- 4/5 - A very yummy Loco Moco they got here. Can't say no to this favorite local dish. Service: 4/5 - Very friendly service. Called in my order and the server was super nice. Ambiance: 3/5 - Although I didn't eat indoors it is a bit dark inside.

Ben G.

Yelp
I called and let them know if the errors to our prior order and they made good our next time there. Go when they open or call in your order as this place is ALWAYS packed! Great value and above average food for sure when they get it right. We will be back

Sheila T.

Yelp
They open at 7am, some people are out here waiting by 6:40am. There's a sign in sheet to write how many people are in your party and you log in the time you arrive. We got here at 7:15am. There's a good size parking lot/parking spaces, however, the dining space inside is very limited. You can save 30-40 min wait by calling ahead and picking up the food. We sat down at 8am. They had only one server and one cook, but it's worth the wait! They keep the inside very nice and cold. We ordered the spam moco with the fried rice and the macadamia nut pancake with the Mac-nilla sauce. We got the iced Kona coffee! (They provide Kona ice cubes so it doesn't get watered down-- love it!!) I absolutely loved the food! I love how the gravy isn't too salty, you get most of the salt already from the spam and it blends so well with the fried rice and eggs! I really wanted to try the short rib moco (I'll try calling back tmrw to see if they have it) And the pancakes were delicious, I'm obsessed with the mac-nilla sauce. I NEED IT IN A BOTTLE. It's not too sweet, which is perfect because you can actually finish the whole thing. $37 for all the items we got! Pretty worth it to me! Some tips: - Cash Only - Dine In if you're not in a hurry - Call in and order take out if you want to skip the line! Support the local businesses! They work hard and are so friendly!!

Yelp
What a great local spot! 808 Grindz was not on my radar until a friend recommended this place. Per others' recommendations, we ordered take out in hopes to avoid the long wait for dine-in. I called around 8AM, placed an order, and was told it would be a 30 minute wait + that they take cash only. Around the 30 minute mark, I drove over and saw a long line out the door. There were no clear signs or instructions on where to pick up food - I went inside, which was very small, and waited awkwardly by the kitchen entrance until a server asked what I was there for. The food was not ready yet, and it took another 20 minutes. I understand they may be short staffed, but if they say it'll take a certain amount of time, it would be nice for the food to be ready by then esp. since it's a to-go order. Nonetheless, the food overall was worth it. We ordered the mac nut pancakes, ube pancakes, short rib moco, and crab cake. Came out to about $50. It was more than enough food for the two of us, and we happily ate leftovers the next morning. The pancakes were the star of the show. The mac nut pancakes were actually mac nut flavored and had mac nut sauce on top. The ube pancakes were made in the same manner. Highly recommend 10/10. The short rib moco was tasty as well, but the meat was a bit chewier than we would have liked. The crab cake tasted pretty generic, but it was still a great addition to our meal.

Yelp
A local favorite of ours when we're in Maui. First off, if you don't like waiting, order to-go. The lines to eat here can be very long. It is a small restaurant with about 8 tables or so. There is a sign in sheet in front of the entrance. Get here at opening, or you might be waiting a while. The pancakes here with their Mac-Nilla sauce are off the chart. We got the Blueberry, Banana, & Macadamia nut pancakes, all with the Mac-nilla sauce, Local fried rice deluxe, 6 oz steak and eggs, and the Steak-Moco. All were soo good! If you like Loco Moco, you'll love the Steak Moco, it's just a notch above. They offer other food that is just as a good, but this is what we had. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Restaurant is clean and cozy. Give this place a try and don't be discouraged by the line. Happy Nom Nom!

Yelp
AMAZING local and homey restaurant perfect for a casual breakfast / lunch! Get the mac nut pancakes with the mac-nilla sauce -- you will not regret it!!! My boyfriend and I arrived for brunch at noon and put our name down on the list outside. The interior only has ~8 tables so definitely be prepared for a bit of a wait; we ended up waiting about half an hour before we finally got seated and that was with just a few groups of people ahead of us. Since they post the menu outside, we knew exactly what we wanted by the time we got in so we could order right away. I got the mac nut pancakes with mac-nilla sauce on top, and my boyfriend got the breakfast for champions which came out to be THREE plates of food. First of all, the mac-nilla sauce here is PERFECTION; it paired perfectly with the mac nut pancakes and was just the right amount of sweetness, creaminess, etc. The breakfast of champions was well worth the money ($20) as it came with several different types of meat, eggs, hash browns, and a waffle with the same mac-nilla sauce. This was the perfect amount of sweet & savory that we wanted, and we were both stuffed by the end of the meal.

Nicole O.

Yelp
Don't let the long line intimidate you (and there will be a line!) when you first pull up. I fully believe it's worth the wait. When you first arrive, you put your name on a list, and wait to be called for seating. The restaurant itself is very tiny, and I'm almost positive the one waitress I encountered served double duty as a cook as well. However, they do tend to turn the tables over pretty quickly. I had to order one of the Moco Loco plates, a Hawaiian staple. My companion and I also split one of the Maple Bacon and Macnut pancakes with a side of the homemade Mac-nilla sauce. I really enjoyed my shredded pork Moco loco. The gravy was tasty and they added the perfect amount. My egg was cooked just like I asked for. The portion was huge - I was stuffed by the time we were done. The pancake was also amazingly delicious and super fluffy, and the mac-nilla sauce was the perfect complement. Overall, I highly recommend checking out this Hawaiian staple restaurant. The service was fairly good considering, and the food combined with the price made it one of the best valued meals I had in Maui.

Berna G.

Yelp
If there's one restaurant you can't miss on Maui, it's this. Their menu has so many varieties of loco moco, but the employee at the register said their favorite was the Shredded Pork Moco, so we went with that and it did not disappoint! The slow roasted pork is soft and tender while also having some crisp edges that's a satisfying texture with the fried egg and gravy. The portion is huge and only had half for lunch and saved the rest. Since my hotel didn't have a microwave I ate this cold after a night out and it was still good LOL. I also tried the Local Fried Rice Deluxe and it was delicious as well, as expected and included plenty of ham and Portuguese sausage. Their items are super affordable for the portions versus a lot of other brunch cafes. Wait time was about 15 min for the two dishes. This is located in a strip mall type of plaza next to FoodLand in Lahaina and parking was hassle-free.

Neha G.

Yelp
This place is super famous and you can notice it very easily once you see the wait list. People started writing their name from 6:30am. 1 hour wait is very common for this place. The place seems like an old gem. Food is significantly lower in price compared to any other place I have seen in Maui. But must say they are maintaining their quality too. My only disappointment was seeing very limited vegetarian options when looking for something hot and savory. Ended up taking just one item as to-go. That too with 40 mins wait. Oh and they only take cash.

Serena L.

Yelp
Another great find in Maui! We almost didn't come here, but somehow found our way in when we were in the area. We tried an eggs benedict, locomoco, and ube pancake. The ube pancakes were delicious! We got the 2 stack, which was plenty for my sister and I. The ube cream on top wasn't too sweet and had a great taste. My favorite pancake of all time! I know there are a few places in SF that sell ube pancakes and they're pretty good, but this one was just amazing. The locomoco was also one of the best locomocos I've had on the island. The meat patty had a delightful texture to it as well as taste. The sauce was also delicious, and had the perfect level of salt-- not too salty. Perfect. The eggs benedict was your standard eggs benedict. Decent.

Yelp
Paid by card. 808 Grindz is located on a small strip in a parking lot and offers a lot of plaza parking. I went in on a Friday at 9:30 AM with 6 people and was told the wait would be 30 minutes to dine in or 30 minutes for takeout. My party and I decided to dine in and wait. We waited almost 2 hours!!! Omg. Luckily we got some poke and snacks at Foodland while we waited. I got the mac nut waffle and ube waffle and thought both were really good. However, not almost 2 hours good. I wish we would've gotten it to go. The staff was nice but only a daughter and father working to take orders, serve, and bus. Were they cooking also? Haha. Overall I'd recommend this place but would not wait that long to dine in. I would recommend taking to go or go after 11:30 AM.

Yelp
Would you make a 55 mile round trip for breakfast, when there are dozens of alternatives closer? We were staying at the Maui Banyan in Kihei near the border with Wailea. Drove 40 miles round trip to 808 Grindz Cafe. Parking lot has signs limited parking to 1 hour. 9:17am Sunday, put our names on the wait list, with maybe 30 people waiting outside the restaurant. 10:07am, 50 minutes later, our names called by Keiea dressed in a purple pink dress, with red Hoka shoes, and purple strands in her hair. Color coordinated head to toe! 7 tables, 4 of which seat only 2 people. 10:32am our food arrives, 25 minutes after being seated, mainly because a party of 6 was ahead of us in ordering food. $17 ono fish benedict with crab fondue. No wonder they didn't list the too high price on the menu, but only appeared as a daily special. Spinach and grilled ono covered with overeasy eggs, with fried shredded potatoes on the side. Very little crab says the wife for this delicious but overpriced dish. $11 shredded pork loco moco, tasty well cooked shreds of pork meat covered by two over easy eggs, in a delicious gravy. The meat is to die for, it's that good, with great value for the buck. 10:46am we get out of there. Signs say cash only, but there is an option to pay by check. Not enough cash? Prepare to sharpen up your dishwashing skills. Despite the sign saying 1 hour limit of parking, our car is still there almost two hours later. No tow truck in sight. First and only time drove 55 miles round trip for breakfast.

Yelp
808 has been on my list to try for Maui and I'm glad that my husband and I got the chance to try it without the wait. Our air bnb was located about 7 minutes away from 808 and we decided to do takeout which was the smartest move. We took our food to eat back at our airbnb which had a view anyways ;) We called a few minutes after they opened and ordered and said that our meal would be ready in about 20-30 minutes which was perfect. FYI number to call for take out is 868-4147 (new number). Wait for dine-in can take up to an hour so I've heard. My husband and I shared the Shredded Pork Moco and the Macadamia Nut Pancakes. Both were very delicious! We had the savoriness and tenderness of the Shredded Pork Moco with egg on top and then the sweet and yumminess of the pancakes. The Macadamia Nut pancakes was not overly sweet which we both loved. There are a lot of variety of loco mocos here that 808 has which you can choose from which I love as well as the pancakes. But get the Shredded Pork Moco and the Macadamia Nut pancakes! You won't regret :)

Cindy Z.

Yelp
This is a must for breakfast and I'd suggest an early breakfast at that if you don't want to wait in line. We arrived a little before 8am and had no wait luckily. Otherwise, takeout is a good option too. We started off with two flavored coffees for $4 each(one macadamia nut and one vanilla syrup) plus a POG juice ($3). The coffee has free refills, which the server came around a fair amount. For food, we ordered the Macadamia Nut Pancake (3 for $9) plus the famous Mac Sauce (+$2), Kalua Patty Moco Special ($14), 808 Grindz Breakfast ($8.08), and Loco Moco ($11). Both the loco mocks were very tasty, especially the special which came with fried rice. The 808 breakfast was just okay, but amazing deal at only $8.08. I like that they have these 808 specials. But the must get here is definitely the pancakes. They're so fluffy and light, yet rich. The sauce is not overly sweet and is what made the pancakes just so amazing. Overall, service was great and food was yummy. Plus, the entire meal was so affordable! Definitely come here for the Macademia Nut Pancakes with their special Mac sauce!

Vincent N.

Yelp
Heard the pancakes were to die for so had to stop by! When we arrived around 1:30 (They close at 2), there wasn't a line, and they were doing take out only. I was worried there would be a huge wait due to other Yelp reviews, but seems like the best way to avoid the wait is to come later in the day. Ordered the Ube Pancakes (wasn't on the menu but just asked for it and they had it!) and the Hazelnut Nutella waffles, also ordered a side of their famous mac-nilla sauce, a combo of macadamia and vanilla. The sauce was super good, very unique and creamy! Pancakes are ultra fluffy! The Ube flavor is so rich! Each pancake order was $9. Super worth it! Definitely worth it!

Jordon S.

Yelp
Cash only! Thought I'd make that mention at the first of the review ^. So - I absolutely loved the food. LOVED IT. It was just incredible. I got the Kalua Pork Hash. It was basically a hash brown patty made with amazing pork. That was on top of an English muffin and underneath a poached egg with hollandaise sauce. Oh man it was divine. Also got a side of the sausage (not link - forgot what the other one was called). Some of the best breakfast meats I've had in a while. My kids got the waffles and pancakes. I've gotta say - they were some of the best I've ever had. So your probably wondering - why not five stars? Here's why: I waited for an hour and a half! I put my name on the list (there was probably five people ahead of me). So I anticipated maybe 30 min max. Yeah - one hour and thirty minutes later. Geez. Then it took another 45 minutes to actually get our food after we sat down. It was really tough to be patient. With that being said, I understand that they were short staffed. They had ONE server. She was working her butt off and all the workers were apologetic for the long wait. But still - it was tough, especially since I had three small kids with me. Would I go back? Absolutely. However, I'd do take out or make sure they had more staff available. Aloha!

Jessie Z.

Yelp
Okay, food bomb- especially the maple bacon macnut pancake ( thick, slightly chewy, flavored). And the loco moco ( made p fresh, had a nice slightly sweet flavor) so I definitely recommend. Portions were also great for the price. Ube pancake was not on the menu but around $10. There was a lot of sauce and great texture, not super strong ube flavor. Eggs benedict great price, had the crab cakes actually had crab. BUUUT FOLLOW THIS FOR THE BEST ORDERING EXP: 1. There's a huuuge line, dining in is great because it's very local business family run diner vibe. You get coffee, they refill it for you. But it's a small tight space & like 2 people cooking so it can be an hour for a seat and more to get your food. ~~~ 2. Bring cash, they take card but prefer cash. 3. CALL 808-868-4147 AND ORDER AT YOUR HOME FOR TAKEOUT. It'll probably take like 20-30 minutes for 2 orders of pancakes at opening, I would be slower side to go pick up your order. ( the yelp phone # is wrong) the cook may sometimes forget the ticket 4. Walk into the restaraunt when it's pick up time. There's only 1-2 server so you likely won't be serviced until they've done their rounds for dine in. You kinda have to tell them yourself your name and your order- they won't call it out. 5. You'll need to awkwardly wait in the tight space until they have finished servicing, before they can check your order and pay. You receive your items in a paper bag which can take like 15 minutes. Calling in is the best way to save time. I do respect it's a very homely experience, there's just too little space and staff. You might feel they are kinda "rude" seemingly ignoring you, but it's literally just a very tight space & not enough staff to make sure everyone is accomodated. I wouldn't pass this place though, because it was good. The person you call is very nice too.

Debbie G.

Yelp
This place is small so grab a table, ck out a menu, & place your order & pay at the counter. Someone will deliver food to your table. Ordered the Da Bene Trio- great pork & salmon. So good! It's a must stop! Enjoy!!!

Katrina M.

Yelp
Extremely popular with the locals, this tiny cafe serves up some big breakfasts! Came here because our Uber driver told us it was a must do and he was right! The Kalua Pork moco and the macadamia nut pancakes were amazing. But really for me, the marshmallow coffee was the yummiest! In fact I had a hot one with breakfast and then left with an iced to go version in hand. Interestingly the marshmallow flavor is much more present in the hot version. Heard there could be a huge wait at this place so I came at 6:45 am on a Saturday and had no problem getting in when they opened at 7. Not all the tables were filled when I left a little before 8.

Shirley L.

Yelp
Great option for breakfast/brunch! I think this was one of my favorite breakfast meal the whole trip. The wait was a bit long so I would recommend going early. We got the 808Grindz Breakfast, 808Grindz Steak & Eggs, MacNut and Ube pancakes. The food was really well seasoned and cooked to perfection. The spam was fried to crispy and steak was cooked correctly. The highlight of the meal was the pancakes. It was the best pancakes we had the whole trip. The warm MacNut and Ube sauce added on top of the fluffy pancakes made it so good! If you plan on coming here, the pancakes would be a must try!

Catalina T.

Yelp
So glad we were able to finally visit 808 Grindz Cafe. It was perfect after an unforgettable morning whale watching. We were there a bit after the morning rush so we maybe waited about 30-45min after putting our name down. While waiting we were already reviewing our choices off their menu. We decided to go for the Ube pancakes and the trio. It was more than enough food for two hungry adults to share that couldnt decide on savory or sweet for breakfast. The ube pancakes were a little intimidating at first being that they were so bright in color. I was expecting them to be overly sweet but to my surprise, they were not. They were also super fluffy and had the great tasting ube flavor to them and not anything overly sweet and artificial. Hands down the best ube pancakes I've had. The trio egg bennies consisted of one salmon, pork with pouched egg and one crab cake. Great tasting food all around and large portions for what you pay. Friendly service too (my coffee was always filled without needing to flag anyone down for a refill). Only down side is cash only.. we barely had enough cash to pay for our meal. Who carries cash now a days? Pro tip: CASH ONLY

Yelp
We waited over 1.5 hours to be seated. The place is really small and not worth waiting as long as we did. They were short staffed, and rather than focus on customer's food who were waiting at the tables, they decided to have takeout orders being prepared at the same time which made the wait even longer. Their pancakes were good, but I noticed they were prepared using a store bought mix. Not very authentic IMO. Staff were friendly.

Yelp
After subpar experience at Tin Roof & Joey Kitchen, Grindz Cafe salvaged our Maui food experience. Ube pancake (5/5) was fantastic: hot & spongy, smothered with that addictive ube sauce. I usually don't like pancakes but this was an entirely different specie. Crab latkes (5/5) was unlike anything I had before. They mixed crab meat with potato & grilled the mixture into patties, on top sat perfectly pouched eggs with running yolk, smothered the whole mixture with yummy Hollandaise, OMG. Mowie Vowie omelette (5/5) was good, but the side of grilled potatoes was even better: crispy skin while soft & moist inside. Iced Kona coffee (macademia flavor shots) was cool & arousing. We already made plans to return. We returned & tried other items: macademia nut pancake was good but not as good as the ube pancake, also the sauce was too sweet. Kalua pork hash brown was fantastic. Grindz moco was solid.

Yelp
Best breakfast/brunch place on the island and it's not even close! Got to this place around 8am it took 1 hour to get seated but def worth the wait. It's a small mom and pop location with the whole family making it happen making the home cooked meal taste even better. To start off, my wife and I got the Macadamia Nut Iced Coffee. It was pretty good but make sure to stir cuz all the flavor is at the bottom! We then opted for the 808 Grindz Loco Moco, which is the classic ground beef patties, and paid extra for the Garlic Spam Loco Moco. Both were really flavorful and seasoned well with the gravy having some sweetness along with savory flavors. The eggs were cooked well and it is all served with a mountain of white rice. The star of the show was definitely the ube waffle. The ube-coconut sauce was packed with flavor and you can distinctly taste ube and coconut without it being too sweet. Let me just reiterate that this is the best place for breakfast/lunch on Maui and you have to dine here at least once and support the local grindz!

Yelp
Food is fantastic, service is super friendly, definite hole in the wall gem in Lahaina. The inside is small and feels like you're in someone's house for breakfast. We had the champion of breakfasts: ube pancakes with a side of Portuguese sausage and their 808 Grindz moco. Expect to wait, but the wait will definitely be worth it!!

Yelp
I'm so sad that this place is closed at least temporarily! I have been a customer for years ! My family and I love Maui and are really saddened by the destruction of the recent fire. Having not been there since, I truly hope that 808 Grindz can recover. The staff is always so friendly and recognize my husband every time we go back. My son loves the ube pancakes, and I'm a fan of the macadamia pancakes. The hometown feeling I get when we walk in is comforting. Praying for Maui and it's road to recovery!

Yelp
Got the ube pancakes with ube coconut sauce Bf loved this! I'm more of a savory gal so I opted for the loco moco It was perfection! Scarfed it down so quickly, couldn't stop! Should have gotten the deluxe for a bigger portion Def recommend this spot!

Yelp
Every time we visit Maui, we have to make a spot at 808 Grindz. It's a very popular breakfast spot, so the wait is always pretty long. We got here around 8:45am to add our names to the list. We're a party of 7 and it took about an hour and a half to be seated. The place is really small inside so it doesn't accommodate very many people. What sucks is everywhere says they're open daily except mondays from 7am to 2pm. We got there on a Wednesday and they were closed. And no signs on the door of hours of operation. I ordered the Loco Moco and Mac nut pancakes with Mac nut sauce and it didn't disappoint! Love the food here. And the staff is always amazing. Parking is easy to find but most is limited to an hour parking. So you'll have to move the car.

Yelp
Best brunch on the island and possibly the best loco moco we had too. Delicious ube pancakes- super fluffy and flavorful but not overwhelmingly sweet!! Great service from a local family, definitely a delicious and lowkey place.

Yelp
Will come back for the pancakes. Food: We ordered the shredded pork moco & portugese sausage moco for dine in & their ube pancakes togo. My shredded pork moco had this light frying oil smell/taste to it which was a bit unappetizing to me, however, I don't eat fried food or oily foods often so maybe the smell just stood out more to me. My bf said his moco was very good. Now, the ube pancake. Sis. SIS. TO DAMN DIE FOR. Had a few notes of nostalgic pandan flavor to it as well. Service: Outstanding and quick. We got here about 40 minutes before closing on a Saturday and we were the only ones dining here.

Yelp
If you want authentic Hawaiian breakfast, this is the place. I personally don't think it's worth the over-an-hour wait, especially most tourists are hungry due to the time zone difference. It's a very small restaurant that only have about 7-8 tables inside. Interior is outdated. I had to eat a spam musubi while waiting in line (just go across and get it from Foodland).

Yelp
This place is SOOOOO good!!! You need to get there early tho because there's a line. We arrived on a Friday morning around 7:09 AM, and there was already a long line!!! They just opened and called a bunch of people in. There were 3 people ahead of us. We waited about 30 mins before being seated. The restaurant is small so I think that's the main reason for the line, and food comes out quick. I ordered the short ribs mocco w/ fried rice - short ribs were HUGE, I liked the fact that they cut up the pieces for you, but wish the meat was more tender. Gravy was delicious, a bit sweet but i like sweet so it was perfect. Fried rice was pretty good too. My husband ordered the 1lb Steak - the seak pieces were HUGE also. For me, Inwluld have liked a bit more seasoning in it, but he loved it the way it was. We also tried the Macadamia but short stack w/ MAC-NILLA sauce.. OMG!! I this just won me over.. the pancakes were so light & fluffy!!!! I wanted to keep eating more!! The sauce was so perfect with it and the sweetness wasn't so overpowering. It was delicious!!! The coffee was also realllllly good!! I had 4 cups of coffee, it had to stop myself because it was THAT good. Service was also great! Very attentive and they always refilled our coffee or water as soon as it needed refilling. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
I woke my son up early to go to this place. We got there when it opened and there was still a line. My son wanted to leave but I was determined to eat at a Hawaiian-owned restaurant so I told him we were staying. I'm happy we did. Even though we waited an hour, which I never do, it was well worth it. I ordered the steak, eggs, and friend rice. All excellent flavors. My son ordered the French toast and eggs. I snuck a taste of his French toast and it was just fantastic. The service was excellent, very friendly family. The good was perfectly cooked. Such a sweet atmosphere. I'd definitely eat here again.

Yelp
While vacationing in Maui, I was in search of some great local cuisine. 808 Grindz was on my to-do list. Luckily, it wasn't too far from where I was staying. If you plan on dining here, you have to get here before they open. There's usually a long line to wait in, after writing down your name on the list. I decided to do take out (See pic I posted for the updated phone number to call for takeout). Even placing a takeout order, expect a wait. Everything here is manually done from phone ordering to dine-in. If dining here, it's a very small space, which can explain the long dine-in wait times. There's only one person taking phone orders. I had been here a couple times during my week stay in Maui. For my takeout order, I did the following: - Steak, Shrimp & Eggs - Short Stack of Ube Pancakes - Short Stack of Macadamia Nut Pancakes - Ube Waffles - Short Stack of Red Velvet & Dream-nilla Sauce Pancakes Everything was cooked to perfection! Steak was cooked medium rare. Eggs over easy. The red velvet pancake was delicious. But, the ibe pancakes and waffles are to die for! Out of all the Ube pancakes places I been to in Honolulu and the Mainland, these where the best! The waitress/cashier who helped was very friendly. Working solo doing all these transactions, I commend her hard work. If ever in Maui, check 808 Grindz out! I hope some of my tips will help a little.

Yelp
After returned to Maui for the first time in awhile, a family member recommended 808 Grindz as a past family favorite. I was excited to try it again after all these years. We (party of 2) arrived around 9am and sat down at 9:55am. Luckily, I saw a strategy from a Yelper who got some poke from Foodland, so we followed suit which was a delicious appetizer and prevented us from getting "hangry". Overall, the restaurant was having a bad day which went downhill after we sat down. We overheard loud, angry expletives from an employee from the kitchen. It must have been a chef, coupled with the delayed service with only one server, our food didn't come until ~ 11:00. We were feeling fine, and our spirits were up since it was our first day of vacation and we had some poke to satiate our hunger. But I don't think I have ever experienced that long of a wait at a restaurant once seated. Once we got our food, we were pleased, but nothing to write home about. Solid food. The pancakes were probably our highlight. We were also just grateful to finally get our food. This review gained a star because we understand that the sole waitress was working so hard to help everyone out, and be the face of the restaurant towards impatient patrons. If you want to sit, probably arrive before 8am to ensure a timely meal.

Yelp
We ordered takeout for breakfast and it was delicious. Our boys loved their chocolate chip pancakes! We had the loco moco, which was very good. It's a really small place so they fill up quickly and there is usually a long line so that's why we just got it to go. Cute place though and good food!!

Yelp
We went back to Maui this spring, and 808 Grindz delivers again! They still have the delicious fresh and flavorful food, great welcoming service and local hospitality

Yelp
This mom and pop stop is apparently a locals favorite turned tourist favorite. We placed a takeout order by phone. The wait was estimated 40 min but instead it took 1 hr 10 min. Indeed there are a lot of people waiting to try their food! The meal itself was great. The Ube pancake was fluffy with a hint of chewiness, almost like a Mochi pancake, with thick custard-like Ube syrup - yum. The Portuguese moco had flavorful sausage slices and gravy. The yogurt parfait was surprisingly good, perhaps missing a tropical touch for what it cost but otherwise what was expected. Overall, I'm not sure I'd recommend this place to people on a strict timetable but calling ahead for takeout is a good move!

Yelp
People recommended me this place as a must stop for a loco moco in Maui. Everyone said to get there early because wait times get really long. We got there about 9 am on a Wednesday and we got in within 30 minutes. However, as we got sat at our table. The wait time jumped to almost 2 hours !! This place is in high demand and I now know why. The loco moco I had was delish. I was thinking about getting the bigger plate of loco moco but the regular size is more than enough. Simple flavors but mixed well together. Our server was so nice Highly recommend but go early ! Overall I rate it a 4.2/5

Yelp
Mmmmm amazing portions, amazing food. Ube pancakes were the highlight, that coconut sauce had a strong flavorful that just made the experience so much better. Their mocos are very heavy, which may be a good or bad thing depending on your hunger levels and tastes. Fried rice was not my favorite, but everything together tasted awesome. Would order takeout ahead to avoid waiting since it gets very busy.

Yelp
Good local lunch spot that isn't overpriced with decent portions. Nothing to write home about but a solid option for a quick breakfast or lunch. It's cash only. Pro tip: call in your order and just do a pick up. Save yourself a 30-40 minute wait cause they have very limited seating

Yelp
Would I recommend this place? 100 times yes! The Ube pancakes alone were enough for me to get my family out of bed to go have a bite! Was a bit of a wait as we didn't get there early enough but it was totally worth it I'm tempted to come back tomorrow just for the pancakes. In fact, I think I will!!

Franky S.

Yelp
Pros: Food is delicious and very authentic. The loco moco's are the best I've had anywhere in Hawaii. The macadamia nut pancakes with the mac nut sauce are ridiculously good too! The owner is AWESOME too. Great family owned spot Cons: Multiple times we've attempted to eat here and upon arrival, the place is closed. Although, google, yelp and their own website state that they're open. The wait times (on days that they're open are very long) but still worth it in my opinion if you're willing to wait.

Yelp
Long wait, totally understand. The grocery store is in the same parking lot so if you need to kill some time you could always browse the options next door. On this trip we tried the Steak Loco Moco, the 808 Grindz Loco Moco and some chocolate chip pancakes to go. Due to COVID the dining room was closed so I can't provide any feedback on that experience. The gravy on the loco moco had a sweetness to it that we couldn't figure out. We've had Loco Moco a lot so this one threw us off a bit. The steak and burger patty were fine, but when everything is covered in gravy, it was hard to really enjoy the meal when the main ingredient isn't shining through. The pancakes were fine, nothing really more to say on them. Decent food, well priced and super friendly staff, but we probably wouldn't wait in line for it again.

Yelp
The only reason why I'm giving this place an "okay" review is because of the wait. Came on a Wednesday at 8:30am and waited 2 hours to get seated, then 30 min after we ordered to get our food. So we waited a total of 2 and 1/2 hours before we ate something. I knew this would be a long wait going into the place after reading reviews but, for the food the wait just didn't seem worth it. It was definitely good, don't get me wrong, but not worth 2 and 1/2 hours of waiting. I would probably only ever come back if I woke up early enough to be the first person in line to get seated/served. Other than that, I'd probably pass and go somewhere else.

Yelp
My favorite meal in our Maui stay! Definitely recommend calling ahead if you plan to take your food to go. I called and was placed on hold for a long time at first, so I ended up calling back and finally I was able to talk to someone. I understand they are very busy so I won't fault them for a small inconvenience of having to be on hold for a few minutes. The inside of the restaurant is tiny, maybe about 5 tables of 2-4. So I can only imagine the wait for dining in must get wild. I didn't even think dine in was an option as it seems they only recently reopened the dining room. On to the food! One order of shortrib moco and one order of maple bacon & mac nut pancakes. I was a big fan of their moco. Though my husband pointed out he wished we hadn't ordered the short rib because eating it on the beach was more difficult. Welp, even more reason to come back and try another dish that would be more beach friendly. Everything just came together so well with the gravy, the tenderness and flavor of the short rib meat, and a perfectly runny sunny side up egg to top it all. The pancakes were on another level as well. I had asked for the syrup and mac-nilla sauce on the side, which I almost always ask for in a to go order to prevent soggy food. But I think I ended up pouring all of that mac-nilla sauce and possibly licking the plastic container. These are slightly on the sweeter side, but I didn't find them too sweet. Portions were large, they filled up the the entire to go container. Perfect for making each order shareable! See you on my next Maui trip, 808 Grindz!
