9Hotel Mercy made our visit to Lisbon and its surrounding areas an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the hotel staff anticipated our arrival, welcoming us with warm smiles and glasses of tawny port. Our room was ready exactly as promised, setting the tone for an amazing stay.
Upon stepping into our sixth-floor suite, we could hardly believe our eyes—it must be one of the largest suites in all of Europe. The hotel’s sophisticated aesthetic is woven into every detail, from the decor and furniture to the intricately designed drywall, which features angled, vertical ridges that catch the light beautifully. The private terrace offered sweeping southward views of Chiado, with seating for four. Even in winter, having a private balcony felt like a luxury.
Every aspect of our suite was thoughtfully curated. All fixtures worked perfectly, the room was stocked with espresso pods, tea, and a well-kept mini fridge, and housekeeping arrived daily—friendly, efficient, and meticulous. Security was never a concern, as a night staff member was always present in the lobby, ensuring guests wouldn’t face unexpected lockouts (which can be an issue in some places).
The breakfast was phenomenal—by far one of the best we've ever had at a hotel. Every dish was prepared with care and skill. The spread included eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, juices, mineral water, pancakes, jams, cheeses, sliced meats, croissants, pastries, pastéis de nata, cereals, granola, yogurts, and more. Even the bacon was cooked to absolute perfection—a rare treat.
What truly made our stay exceptional, however, was the staff. Isabella, Rita, and Francesco went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. They weren’t just attentive; they enriched our experience in ways we never expected. Whenever we had a question, needed assistance, or simply wanted to chat about Lisbon, they were more than happy to share their insights—always with the offer of a glass of tawny port and a pastry.
Rita went out of her way to arrange for tawny port to be delivered to our home. Francesco, the overnight manager, greeted us warmly after our late-night adventures and was always up for engaging conversation. Isabella was simply extraordinary. She essentially planned out suggested tours and day trips for us, complete with estimated transportation costs and restaurant recommendations. She even took the time to walk us around the neighborhood, showing us nearby squares, parks, Time Out Market, Praça do Comércio, and how to navigate Uber in the city. Her kindness and effort helped structure our trip and smooth over any language barrier with our struggle-Portuguese (Desculpe. Meu português é muito ruim). She also mentioned that the rooftop bar—closed for the season during our visit—is one of the best in Chiado, and she often bartends there.
Our expectations were exceeded in every way. We cannot wait to return!
