We were looking for something to eat and husband said 'what about mac and cheese' and then promptly fell asleep. I think we carried some of this out during the pandemic, but I think we only did the mac and cheese as a side. The only thing I don't like about the online menu is that is doesn't really explain how big each portion is. I went ahead and ordered two large portions, a 7 cheese and a classic. The portions are huge, large was enough for me husband and I to split. Pretty good value considering we got four servings out of it. Both were good, but I preferred the classic while my husband the 7 cheese. I found the 7 cheese a little salty for my liking. Overall if you like mac and cheese this is solid. I can't vouch for the specialty varieties, but the standard ones are really good.

Easily the worst mac and cheese I've ever had and quite possibly the worst thing I've ever gotten from a restaurant. Whatever substance they're passing off as cheese is truly vile. It reminds me a lot of school cafeteria nacho cheese, but with a much more off-putting flavor and texture. It's significantly worse than any boxed mac and cheese or frozen mac and cheese from the grocery store. I rarely waste food, but this was the first dish in years that went straight in the trash after a few bites. I will certainly not come back to Joey G's, I can't support a business that has such little integrity that they're willing to serve this to paying customers. Seriously, go anywhere else in Chicago for mac and cheese because it can't possibly be as bad as Joey G's.

My partner and I went to Joey G's on a Saturday afternoon and stepped into cheesy mac heaven. Here is what we ordered: Classic Mac & Cheese (small) Cheeseburger Mac & Cheese (small) Cheesy Fries (large) Italian Beef w Giardiniera Scoop of ice cream (chocolate chip cookie dough) Free Italian butter cookie with a $5 purchase We felt like little kids, giddy and delighted. It is fast casual; order at the counter and seat yourself. The cashier did bring our food out to us, and our food came out freshly made to order in tin foil containers, which were then placed in bright yellow baskets. I love Joey G's diner feel. Taking all the leftovers from our meal was super easy, all we had to do was ask for lids. My partner, mid-bite of a forkful of cheesy pasta, said "this is the best mac n cheese I've ever had." We've been wanting to come here for about a year, and finally trekked to Ukrainian Village. The restaurant is right at the corner of Western and Augusta. We found free parking easily along Western. We wanted to try a specialty mac and the classic mac so we could compare against a control. The cheese was creamy and nothing that I could ever recreate on my own. I can't wait to try the jalapeño mac and the Buffalo Chicken mac, and the chicken bacon ranch mac. They use the corkscrew rotini/fusilli noodles and it just catches and holds all the cheese. Their mac n cheeses was drool-worthy and the smalls came with two pieces of garlic bread. Another note about their Italian Beef. I mean, WOW. Move over Portillo's, maybe I've been living under a rock but their Italian beef here I would dare say was actually my favorite. We ordered it wet with giardiniera and I am still thinking about it. Their Monday special is an Italian Beef sandwich (limit two!) for ONLY $5.95. I am trying to clear my Mondays just for this deal. Joey G's is all the rage, get your Mac (fusilli) & cheese fix, plus your Italian Beef fix, and just get here stat! You can choose an Italian butter cookie from the counter with an order of $5. And coming back to the feeling of nostalgia and being a kid, my partner and I ended our meal by sharing an ice cream cone and nibbling on cookies. It does not get better than this :)

The food was amazing! Everyone loved the variety of Mac & Cheese. The quantity and prices were great!

Nice and friendly service inside. I appreciated how I was handled and treated by the cashier. Very efficient but still treated like a patron. The Mac and cheese options were extensive and I tried the Italian beef and 7 cheese. I didn't love their base Mac n cheese and all of the options were just the base plus other things. When I want Mac n cheese, I'm usually looking for something richer and more full and I just didn't get that feeling. It's hard to describe but it felt thin like velveta vs a proper roux and cheese. I doubt they use velveta but probably a lot of American cheese which has its place don't get me wrong, but I think I would've preferred a harder and sharper cheese in the mix just to make it more interesting and give it more of a mouthfeel.

Oh yikes! To add pickles and tomatoes on my sandwich was $2.00 each.... What?!?! The Mac and cheese tasted... there are no words! It was so terrible!! The cheese sauce was just absolutely terrible. The Mac and cheese bites were so dry. I chose to add sauce for $2.00 not sure what was supposed to come but it did not. The garlic bread did taste good. Only positive.

I won't get this again. I make better Mac and cheese and frankly the blue box does too. Plus I asked for panko and didn't get it.

However, after my meal today I would HIGHLY discourage anyone wasting their hard-earned dollars by choosing this place. I ordered the Mac Daddy Dog and the original Mac n' Cheese. This is honestly the most disgusting meal I have ever ate in Chicago. For starters how are you going to be known for your Mac n' Cheese and it's not real Mac n' Cheese with FLAVOR. This tastes like a five-year-old who made this after school without parental supervision. It's nowhere near AUTHETIC!! Disgusting even with no flavor. Now on to the hotdog, flavorless, and over consumed by unnecessary ingredients. This is nothing but a gentrified hotdog! Who puts pickles on hot dogs? A typical hotdog that's appears to be from your nearest gas station. This meal was so awful, I didn't even finish it. Nor did my friend, he was also disgusted. I immediately put everything that was uneaten which was all of it, back in the bag, then a garbage bag and disposed of it outside because this "food" is not even worthy of sitting in my home garbage can. $32 of trash. . Pros: Food was ready, and the French fries are delicious. Seriously, do not waste your money here. Joey G's Mac n' Cheese is only going to be good if you're highly intoxicated or off some serious drugs unless you just naturally have no taste buds because I promise, the mac n' cheese has no flavor.

If all your looking for is great food, this is the place to go, if you want great food and service you hit jackpot! It may be Joey Gs but it felt more like going to uncle Joeys cause you were family by the time you left! You fry a free cookie just for ordering, you have 22 flavor options for spectacular ice cream and let's talk Mac and cheese! The classic was this perfect blend of mamas Mac, baked with a perfect crisp top and gooey soft Mac inside. Elevate this with the ridiculous amount of toppings and you e got Joey Gs Mac and Cheese! Located right outside the boriqua area he has a phenomenal chorizo version that cannot be overlooked. The flavors explode in your mouth and leave you so satisfied. I had the privilege of going on a Saturday where the special was baked crab, and I'm not talking imitation this was chunks out of the shell crab that was buttery flaky and fresh! I expected it to be just on top with a bit but it turned out to be mixed through, for the price I paid I was beyond happy with the quality of the meal I got! If you're on the fence, make sure you stop by and prove me right!

It's not very often that you get to patronize a local restaurant that not only has phenomenal food but also one of the most positive and pleasant owners you will ever meet in this neighborhood. I'm so glad that Joey G opened up his vision for the rest of us. Such a great little local spot!

They have WAY more than just Mac and cheese... The woman behind the counter was so nice. All I had was ice cream but it was incredibly good, and a good value too! I want to come back and get an Italian beef!

I've posted a review of Joey G's before but it deserves another one. Their mac and cheese is absolutely amazing! At this point, I have tried nearly every combination on the menu and I can't begin to say how amazing each concoction is in its own way! The mac and cheese by itself is perfection and when you add in all of the fresh ingredients it turns into a casserole of cheesy, delicious HEAVEN! I have been coming here for several years now and have wowed numerous guests with this hidden gem. I intend to come back as much as possible! Best Mac and Cheese in the city BY FAR!

They have a totally awesome and insane menu with every kind of mac and cheese under the sun. I have tried a couple different things but the jalapeño mac and cheese is my absolute favorite. The service is wonderful. Employees are kind and food is quick. They also have a great dessert selection of ice cream and cookies!

I've heard great things about this restaurant, but I just did not experience any of it. The cheese honestly tasted like velveeta to me. My friend got the Italian beef Mac and cheese and did not like the fact that there was water in his dish. The Italian bread that was served to us was super hard and inedible. Our experience was not good at all.

This restaurant is not only excellent and amazing but also an institution more significant than democracy. The most important branch of the government is Joey G's. Thank you for your service

I can only review the order I had which was the original baked Mac & cheese . So delicious . So happy this is just a skip , hop and a walk from me ! Very creamy , very cheesy , good flavor . I'm intrigued to try the other flavors !

best loaded mac n cheese place so far! their mac is perfectly cooked and is loaded with flavor. the chorizo mac n cheese is a little too salty but it's because they give us so much chorizo which i'm not mad about. the place is very cozy and beautifully lit by the huge windows. the staff was so friendly and made me feel like family. i ordered a medium box expecting serving sizes to be too small, but i couldn't even finish half of it. i recommended this place to my friends!

I love this place. Best Mac and cheese in Chicago! Their pulled pork Mac and cheese is a must try! Whenever I get delivery, they write us a little note too :) Go get their Mac, it will make your day.

The staff was fantastic. I had a patty melt and it was fresh and tasty. The fries were hand cut and also fresh. The rest of our group got mac n cheese of one variety or another and they were happy with their meals. We'll go back : ) Excited to try the ice cream; they have a really interesting variety of flavors.

Awesome customer service from Joey G's Mac and cheese. I had an order issue with a Grubhub order, and got a prompt callback from Mr Joey himself. I always love ordering from Joey's as it's my go-to spot for my cheesy fix. They always include 'garlic' bread, which a nice touch.

Highly recommend stopping by this place. Came with a big group of 10 and got some of the best service I've ever had. Our cashier was the sweetest lady on earth and made sure we had everything we needed our entire meal. She was very accommodating and allowed us to rearrange the furniture so we could all sit at one table. Food wise, there is a wide variety of dishes from sandwiches to burgers to mac n cheese with a lot of different toppings. The portion sizes are massive and you really get a bang for your buck. Definitely an interesting place, a must have for cheese lovers. They also have ice cream and shakes, and have a deal where you get a free cookie when spending $5. We left with happy bellies and a food coma.

Went to Joey G's mac and Cheese and had a wonderful time there. The food was incredible and the service awesome! Bought a number of large size dishes after eating the first one and looking forward to many delicious meals ahead of me. The Taco, Hamburger, Traditional, Chicken Ranch and Italian Beef are what we bought. the sandwiches are fantastic as well as the sizes are big like the size of the mac and cheese and oh so delicious! Talked to the owner for a while and he is so easy going and full of all kinds of stories that make you feel like one of the family. Overall, a great place to eat and take home as well. If I could give 10 stars I would!

Salad was very plane. Only lettice a FEW onions and tomatoes... not worth the money. I ordered the 7 cheese Mac n cheese with jalapeños, grilled onions and pulled pork. I expected it to be super cheesey being that it had 7 cheeses in it, but again was disappointed. It tasted like they added too much milk. It stinks because I live RIGHT down the street from here, so I wanttees to really like it.

Why have I waited THIS long to eat here???? I only live a couple blocks away!! People if you want cheese and pasta and more cheese THIS IS YOUR PLACE!! I love Mac n cheese but usually it's a little cheesy or not seasoned well or dry (aaaahhhh) some times or just not right. But here ??? It was PERFECT!!!! Even had left overs from medium and it tasted EVEN better next day after heating! Yes it didn't dry up even next day! Wow! Okay enough just go and have it.. the cheese is cheesy, their pasta is perfectly cooked and a medium can certainly feed two people! Totally coming back neighbor!

Sometimes you have a craving and I thought that mac and cheese would hit the spot. Just cane here to spend some money but door was locked even though hours are listed till 10pm. This sucks.

We were fretting about what to serve 8-10 people who were coming over for a movie night at our place (we watched the Conjuring 3 and highly recommend it as a group activity!). Did a search on Yelp and found this gem on the corner of Western and Augusta. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint at all! I'm a stickler for good Mac 'n' Cheese. I've been burned in the past (literally too!) by bad ones which had overcooked pasta and watery cheese, but they do an amazing job at Joey G's with the texture and consistency of the Mac. We ordered 1 family sized (feeds ~6 people) regular Mac n Cheese and another family sized Taco Mac n Cheese. I highly recommend them both! For the Taco Mac, imagine sour cream, pico de gallo and that delicious guac on top of the Mac that has layers of seasoned ground beef within... All our guests loved it and since we went family size, my wife and I had leftovers for lunch the next day as well. On top of the amazing Macs, going into the spot made me so happy too! It's such a cute little space and I highly recommend a date night with your SO if you're both into dates where you can spend hours chatting about the happiest times from your childhoods and not worry about which fork to use for your next course. They also serve ice cream and other baked goods (tons of cookies!) When I went for the pick-up, they were giving out free cookies and I recommend the strawberry cream ones! So, the next time you're craving solid comfort food and not the "blue box/stick it in a microwave" kind (which does have its own time and place, mind you!), get your fix at Joey G's. Definitely going to be a regular here!

Came in maybe 30mins before closing time (SORRY) and all 11 of us ordered items, the cashier was not too talkative but, maybe she's just there to do her job & probably because she wants to go home on time, hahaha, they serve different types of cookies & ice cream w/little sprinkles you can add on if you'd like, didn't take any photos because everyone was Hungary & we were at Stellas (again) IF you are a Mac & Cheese fanatic, this is the place to be because whatever favorite food or topping you have in mind, that's the types of mac&cheese they have or if you just an ordinary mac&cheese typea person, this is a must try.

I was excited to order since, they are supposed to be ranked #1 Mac and cheese in Illinois. I would definitely have to disagree. Ordered the chicken bacon ranch Mac and cheese, with no ranch dressing. The bacon was crispy the mozzarella was nicely melted. The Mac and cheese under was NOT good at all. Seems like it's a cheese sauce that comes out of a can that is use for fries. There was no seasoning on the food.The garlic bread that came with the meal was good. Probably won't go back here.

Love this place! Friends and I just went recently and were amazed by the kindness of the owner and the amazing food. Coach Joe is an absolute legend and clearly cares a lot about what he does. I can't wait to go back and try all the different kinds of Mac and Cheese flavors they have! 10/10 can't recommend this place enough

I was going to give Joey G's 4 stars until I warmed up my Mac n cheese leftovers the following day. The Mac n cheese was honestly BETTER the next day!! I was so surprised! And to top it off, they also carry Sherman's ice cream which is one of my all time favorites. I had the blue moon and yellow cake batter and both were heavenly. Very kind and friendly owner as well... makes for such an enjoyable experience!

I am all about this place. Macaroni & Cheese is one of the greatest food groups of all time and when a place does it well, that makes me happy. Not only does Joey G's do it well but they have a bunch of cool combinations and fun items to try all including the main cheese-squeeze. You have to be in the right state of mind for Joey G's when going. It's not going to be healthy so you have to accept this will be your indulgent, cheat meal. Once you let go of your inhibitions, you can truly enjoy it for what it is. Many reviews suggested the Chicken Bacon Ranch Mac 'n Cheese ($6.75 for a small) so I went with that on my first visit. This combo has cheddar & mozzarella cheese, baked and seasoned chicken breast, topped with bacon, ranch dressing and bread crumbs. It was a delicious combination and a good size for a small making two meals for me. It was served with a tasty side of garlic butter bread, as well. Service was awesome the whole time we were there! They explained everything to us newbies really thoroughly and even brought our food out to us outside when it was done (they have sidewalk seating!) and asked if they could bring us anything else. Really friendly, well informed, going above & beyond in the service department. I'm excited to go back and try more of their interesting combinations, plus they do specials each day! Not to mention a great selection of interesting and basic ice cream flavors to finish the meal off.

Had lunch here and was very excited, heard great things. Ordered the cheeseburger Mac and cheese, buffalo chicken Mac and Italian beef. Also side order of fries with cheese dipping sauce. The best part of the meal was the fries and dipping sauce. They were well cooked and crispy. The actually creaminess and flavor of the Mac and cheese was solid. But I thought the burger would be mashed up and mixed in like a hamburger helper. The beef patty was dry and over cooked. The buffalo Mac was solid, tasted how it should. The Italian beef was dry, even after I had it dipped. Would definitely pass. Also got the ice cream, it's Sherman's, which is delicious. Highly recommend that.

Experience: Note, this review was during an unique circumstance of the Covid pandemic. As a result, my experience was based off staff professionalism, take-out process, and food itself. With that said, this was not my first visit to Joey G's Mac & Cheese. In fact, I have been here when they first opened and met Joey himself! Great guy! Parking: It appears to be street parking only. Some parts may be paid and some parts are free. Just ensure that you observe any street signs prior to parking. Worth: 100% worth the visit. I love the different kinds of Mac and Cheese dishes they have available. This visit, I decided to try the Veggie Mac & Cheese. Even though it was not my favorite, it was still good. I remember getting the buffalo chicken and it was awesome! Right amount of kick! Please support this business! Easy take-out process, just call in.

Tried this place for the first time after driving by it in Ukrainian Village - I saw it was ranked the best Mac in Chicago so wanted to see what the hype was about. It was SO good. I tried the 7 cheese Mac and the Taco Mac (absolutely delicious), as well as the Mac Daddy Dog (a must order). If you're a Mac n Cheese fan, this is definitely a place to try! Almost 20 flavors of Mac to choose from, as well as a variety of sandwiches, burgers, specialty fries, and ice cream!

Waited years to try this place and was super disappointed. Box mac and cheese is way better than this. Believe the negative reviews (I wish I did). I could have made a better mac and cheese at home. There was no flavor whatsoever! I took 3 bites and couldn't finish it. Save your money and go somewhere else. I don't know why people rated this place 5 stars...

Joey G's was recommended by a local bar tender. We tried the pulled pork Mac and taco Mac, both were delicious. The staff was kind and Joey G was super funny and interactive with customers.

SO GOOD. Lots of different options, we tried several kinds of mac n cheese, they were all awesome. They come out HOT and they pack the containers really full. I also ordered a turkey panini with fries and it was DELICIOUS. Nicely grilled, crunchy bread that wasn't too thick. Fries were surprisingly good. They have amazing looking ice cream here, and cookies. And a veggie sandwich that could easily be made vegan. Its a chill little place to sit, too. Lets keep Chicago full of small (non chain) restaurants like this!

Wonderful family owned and run business. We were not completely satisfied with one item we ordered and the owner took it upon himself to correct it. Good fresh cut french fries and milk shakes. Cookies & cream and salted Carmel milk shakes were delicious!
