A Boat to Sea Bed & Breakfast

2025, oct 2nd, I called to book and the lovely owner tells me she retired in June 2025! B&B no longer open.

This is an absolutely beautiful bead and breakfast. The grounds are amazing and right on the water. The furnishings and stained glass (made by the owner!) are unique and make the house feel very welcoming. Jane was very knowledgeable about the area and gave very good advice about where to go and what to do. She was very accommodating about my husbands dietary needs and the breakfast was great. It is within walking distance of a number of great restaurants. I would highly recommend this Bed and Breakfast to anyone going to North Sydney.

Our hostess Jane was so chill and nice, she prepared breakfast in the am and was a wealth of knowledge. The room was nice, the bed was normal and so were the pillows. The parking was difficult ( you'll wanna back in to the slab) but the views.. you are right on the water! The town was cute and the B&B's proximity to North Sydney and Sydney is ideal. Just close enough without being right there...

We had a nice stay at the BnB and Jane was friendly and easy going and informative of places to travel around NS. The road noise was loud at times. We had enjoyed our top Lighthouse Room with a view of the ocean out of big window. Breakfast was tasty, colorful, healthy and hot. It was nice she had a helper to bring meals out so we could all eat at the same time and our meals were warm. Lovely conversations from people all over the world. N Sydney was an old rundown lil town with nothing to do. The restaurants were not that great so we drove into Sydney.

The accommodation was quaint and cozy and everything you would want a B&B to be. It was clean with a nice area to sit outside right near the water. There's not much to do in North Sydney though, so be aware of that and be willing to drive into Sydney or somewhere else for dinner as there are only a couple of nice restaurants. The breakfast at the B&B was okay, make sure to tell them about food preferences as they don't ask. The owner was nice but there are some strict rules with this accommodation (like not sitting in the living room after 7pm) that made it a bit rigid. Also, be sure to call after booking online because the room I ordered was a bit different when we got there and I had to sleep on a pull out couch which was very uncomfortable (but we did have our own bathroom). There was also a bit of confusion as she had thought I cancelled but I hadn't, and she didn't seem to be expecting us and wasn't sure how many nights I'd booked for. Overall I would recommend it, but it's more expensive than some other places in the area that we stayed at and not as nice of an overall experience.

While I loved the stained glass I was not happy with the owners decision to bump our room for a different one. I would have never picked the room she put us in. The toilet was basically in the bedroom as was the shower, definitely not my style or suitable for two persons. It was crowded and difficult and uncomfortable trying to get ready,, not practical. It was a one person room. We made the best of it but...

Thank you so much for setting the best example possible of how a B&B is much classier and refreshing than any top shelf Hotel. The conversations at breakfast with yourself and the other folks around the table were friendly, unique, and full of awe. I learned a lot... When ever offered a little cube of shark meat...say No (inside story). It was my first stay at a B&B. I will forever use "A Boat to Sea" as the benchmark for any future B&B stays. Upset we had to leave. Sure wish i could have spoken with the folks from Maine again. They were very good people. I was so relaxed, and at peace...very calming, and inviting. We will be back everytime we come to visit Cape Breton. Again, thank you for providing such an environment for travelers. Cheers from Tim and Sara🍻 P.s. "That jam was splendid. Excellent experience, the best bed and breakfast I've ever been to, such a cute home with such an amazing host. You'll have everything you need, with even a small beach out the back! Would definitely recommend this B&B
