On the Grid : A Bread Affair Bakery

"A true love affair with bread begins here. Hand made artisanal bread that looks like a work of art and tastes even better. Every loaf is baked by hand with love. Bread doesn’t get more Canadian than this, you can literally taste the freshness of the heritage grains free of pesticides or the tartness of Okanagan apples. Their roster of breads proves that when you go back to the way things used to be, simple and pure the reward is a healthy and tasty staple to any meal. Grab a loaf to go or divulge in one of their decadent and generous sandwiches. Oh did we mention their salted chocolate chip cookie is unbeatable?" - Arithmetic Creative

Their organic Marquis bread (named True Love) is pretty good. Perhaps even slightly better than Terra Breads’ Heritage sourdough. However, I do not like their breakfast products. The brioche gave me allergies. Additionally, I made my breakfast sandwich vegetarian by adding another egg (they offer this option which is nice in theory but), apparently they reheated a cooked but frozen egg from frozen (as the add-on egg) and it was green. You can see in the picture. I checked with them and actually that’s how I know this. I’m not even sure if this is good. I mean even if it may be edible and safe according to regulations or whatever but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good thing.

《 🥐🥖 ARTISANAL ORGANIC BAKERY 🥖🥐 》 📍1680 Johnston St, Vancouver, BC - puffy cheese pillow = $5.50 - - lemon cream scone = $5.50 - - pain au chocolat = $5.75 - - double baked pistachio croissant = $7.50 - - blueberry bread pudding crumble pie = $4.50 - Imagine walking around on Granville Island, and you're suddenly captivated by the aroma of steamy hot pastries, fresh out of the oven. I don't think anything can beat that! 👌 At A Bread Affair, you will find a selection of delicious classics like their pain au chocolat 🥐, or more unique seasonal items like their blueberry crumble pie! 🫐 Not only that, they also make many sourdoughs and other loaves of bread 🍞 in house. If you're too hungry to wait until you get home, you can pick up one of their fresh sandwiches to go for a nice, quick bite! 🥪 I really enjoyed all of the pastries I tried, but the lemon cream scone really stood out for me. The lemon flavour was perfectly balanced with the butteriness of the scone. The little pockets of cream cheese added a nice bit of textural variation too. 🍋 (Btw, the double baked pistachio croissant is only available on the weekends, so definitely keep that in mind! 🤫) Thank you to A Bread Affair for this wonderful opportunity! I can't wait to be back ✌️ #gifted

Google
We visited this bakery, and I loved it! They had a pistachio croissant with a pistachio filling, it was absolutely amazing. Definitely one of the best I’ve had in town! Unfortunately, they don’t sell coffee because of Granville Island’s restrictions. It seems like coffee shops can’t sell bakery items, and bakery shops can’t sell coffee. A bit unusual, but it didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed the croissant.

One of my favourite reasons to visit Granville Island. A Bread Affair always has the most amazing baked goods. Their breads are baked fresh daily and their display case is filled with delicious pastries. It’s always hard to pick and choose when everything looks so good! Their cookies are next level scrumptious and you must stop by on the weekends for their Pistachio croissants 🤩

Love the name and love this place. If you’re a bread lover, look no further, this is home. Come in and enjoy. I promise you will leave full and satisfied.

Google
Loaf was somehow undercooked inside AND too hard on the outside, makes for an unsatisfactory slice when fresh and almost inedible crunchy when toasted. Service was good and location of course is great but they really gotta dial that oven in. Also WAY too expensive even for Granville Island. Edit: love that you take the time to reply to all critical reviews. I’ve tried really delicious San Francisco style sourdough and this loaf doesn’t hold up unfortunately.

Google
I stop by every time I visit Granville Island. Every single sandwich is amazing. They are so good I haven't gotten around to trying their baked treats yet. If I'm not here for lunch, I'm here for a loaf of bread. Their bread is truly fantastic. Dip in olive oil as a fancy appetizer good. On a nice day in the summer, there will be street performers right outside their door. Stopping for a tasty sandwich and watching the show is part of my Granville routine. Pro tip: If you are taking sandwiches home, bring your own bag/container. They minimize wasteful packaging but that can make it tricky to bring sandwiches home if you are commuting on the bus.

Google
Cute bakery in a busy area apt for picking up bread, baked goods or sandwiches. The pistachio croissant was quite sweet but tasty. Ham and cheese croissant could use more ham. Enjoyed the lavendar+hibiscus shortbread pack. Would go back for more. The price is on the higher side.

Yelp
I've spent a lot of time in Vancouver so why am I just discovering Granville Island? The food choices are great - literally a global food tour. The Bread Affair was my first stop where I ordered a Gruyère cheese in and a chocolate chunk peanut butter cookie. Odd pairing but hey I'm on vacation. Freshly baked and delicious. Service was fast and friendly and came with a great recommendation for coffee.

Yelp
A great spot for a quick bite before diving into the Granville Island Public Market. We stopped by and ordered the pistachio chocolate croissant and the ham & cheese croissant. Both croissants were packed with flavor and had a beautifully crispy, flaky crust. The pistachio chocolate croissant offered a nice balance of nutty and sweet flavors, while the ham & cheese croissant was savory and satisfying.

Yelp
Food: The Affair Club sandwich: get it. Just do it. When you take a bite, you will hear angels sing. Service: friendly and fast enough Ambiance: it's in the Granville Market area, so it's easy to access.

Yelp
The organic bakery is a dream! I wish we had more time and luggage space so I could buy one of everything. I did buy the cheese sables/cheese shortbread and it is exactly what I've been searching for the past decade. (Why is it so hard to find a good cheese sable??) I should have bought 3. The sandwich menu looked awesome and we will need to come back for lunch on our next trip to Granville Island!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place since we pass it so often while walking around Granville Island. I got myself a ham and edam sandwich while mom got the brioche pizza and an all butter croissant. First off, the bread on my sandwich was incredibly fresh and tasted amazing. Super soft center while the crust was hard but I kind of like that! The actual sandwich was filling and tasty, and I think there was a normal amount of ham and cheese and lettuce but there was only one tomato which was a bit disappointing. The sandwich could have definitely used 2 slices so the tomato would actually fill the entire thing. But besides that I really enjoyed it! We got there around 10:30am and I just loved how fresh it tasted. Great way to start the day! I had a bite of mom's brioche pizza and it was good but nothing super special. It tasted like a cold piece of thin crust pizza. The croissant was huge and since mom had gotten a croissant from Terra Breads it was fun to compare the two. The croissant at A Bread Affair was definitely larger but when you open it up, it has less layers inside. The outer shell was crisper as well. The croissant from Terra Breads was smaller but it had many more layers when you ripped it in half. And the outside was also a bit softer. Also keep in mind we ate these in the evening, about 7 hours after buying them. I think what you'd prefer all comes down to personal preference. Mom and I felt like we enjoyed the croissant from Terra Breads just a little more, mostly because it had more layers to bite into. But the croissant here was still tasty! Overall I'm really glad we finally ate here. A fresh and filling option for food if you're walking around Granville Island. And I'd be curious to try a few other options here next time I'm in the area!

Yelp
This was a cool pastry shop right in the heart of Granville Island Public Market. We went here last week as part of our family vacation. It was nice to run across this place as my older daughter and her husband were looking for a snack for my two granddaughters, and my younger daughter and I were looking for something to share as well. It was a very beautiful day outside. We just had a simple order. The man inside who served us was very nice at the front counter. We got a $2.00 bottle of water and a Pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant) warmed up. The pastry was so fresh and super tasty!!! While we were enjoying our snacks outside, a guy was in the courtyard singing. It was just a really good way to start out at Granville Island!!! We definitely would come back and highly recommend this bread shop!!!

Yelp
Absolutely amazing croissants! So buttery and moist with the perfect amount of flakiness. The service was very friendly and helpful! All the different flavors provide a great selection and the ones we tried were so delicious. They have the bakery section and then a counter that sells sandwiches and drinks. No indoor seating but there are benches right outside that people enjoy their pastries on.

Yelp
This place has a great location. It's near the water and there is outdoor seating in the area. There was live music playing right near the bakery. I didn't have any expectations for my sandwich. I bought it out of convenience. The staff was friendly. They announce your order from the window once it's ready. I had An Affair Club and some sort of homemade soda. The soda was refreshing and not super sweet. The sandwich... I still think about this sandwich. Every time I see a picture of it, I want another one. The focaccia was UNREAL. It was perfect-- fluffy, warm, and full of flavor. The meat and veggies on it tasted so fresh. It was a quality sandwich with quality ingredients. If I'm ever in town again, you can count on me getting another of them.

Yelp
Saw the cookies this bakery offered on social media and had to try it! They have a great location very close to the Granville Market Public Market and the vibe inside is super cute and cozy. Staff was friendly and very welcoming. My husband and I had just eaten lunch so the cookies were top of mind for dessert. We took home one Thicc Valrhona cookie (supposedly a spin on a chocolate chip cookie) and one Thicc Lava cookie (kind of like a lava cake in cookie form). Honestly both cookies were just okay and felt like something was missing. The Valrhona cookie barely had any chocolate chips and the batter was a bit lackluster. The Lava cookie was better with more chocolate flavor from chocolate in the middle (we ate it at home after warming it up for a bit) but it still felt like the batter was missing something. Both cookie batters felt like it was lacking in flavor depth, if that makes sense? Since I'm not local I'm not sure I would make the effort to return, but If I were in the area and I wanted some pastries I would consider visiting again and ordering something else.

Yelp
A must visit boutique bakery while you are in Granville Island. They offer a wide variety of artisan bread, cookies, pastries and Sandwiches and their staff is so welcoming. I went with Thick Peanut Butter Awesomeness Butter cookie and Mandarin Orange Choco Scone. Peanut Butter cookie was a wholesome cookie with just the right amount of sugar (not too sweet)that you will enjoy every bite of it. Orange Mandarin scone is the best scone i have tasted in a while. Usually they are quite sweet but this freshly baked and delicious scone just melt in your mouth. Both the cookie and scone so good that i went back again to bakery for the same order. I found the bakery little pricier but considering the freshness and taste of their food, it is worth it.

Yelp
This bakery on Granville Island has an assortment of bread, pastries, and cookies with raunchy names that are puns of love/affairs. The cookies are all called "thicc." I got the pain au chocolat. The dough was fragrant and flavourful. However, there was very little chocolate inside, which I think is important. Still very good though.

Yelp
Whenever I come to Granville Island, the Bread Affair is a must stop for their delish croissants. Believe me, you thought you walked into a Parisian bakery as a buttery smell waffles in the air. The freshly baked pastries will have you drooling in a nano second. My cousin was with me and she tried their ham & cheese croissant & loved it. They also sell breads, drinks, and other pastries. Ambiance: 5/5 - beautiful décor Service: 5/5 - friendly staff Food: 5/5 - organic and freshly crafted Parking: 3/5 - a challenge at times Value: 5/5 - worth it for organic TIP: Try any of their croissants

Yelp
I stopped in for a croissant while on Granville island and was wowed by the options. I ended up leaving with a pistachio chocolate croissant and came back a few hours later for a molasses cookie. It was so thick (like a puck!) and yet retained its chewiness, which is exactly what I wanted. Sad to not live nearby because I crave their baked goods on weekends!

Yelp
This was the first place that I visited during my time in Vancouver for my trip that served sandwiches and it was amazing! I visited this restaurant yesterday at 3:13 P.M. and it was not too loud inside. Also, the service was good when I was ordering and asking questions. I ordered the Affair Club Sandwich which contained lettuce, tomato, bacon, ham, and turkey. The vegetables tasted fresh and had a good quality. Also, the meats were juicy, tender, and had a smoky flavor to it. Furthermore, the bread was soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, and very flavorful. Overall, this was an awesome experience and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to eat a good sandwich!

Sanj C.

Yelp
Went there today around 2pm and ordered our usual Vancouver Special cookie and to our disappointment the salted caramel was swapped out for an unpleasant tasting cinnamon paste thing. There was a female worker there that seemed to be "in charge" and she was a bit snarky, kept asking "do you want anything else" felt like I was being rushed, I also asked her for a small glass of water because my 8 year old was thirsty and she rudely said I would need to pay $2 for bottle water when I just spend $50 in their business buying cookies and bread. So much for customer service.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
I had their fried egg and bacon broche sandwich for lunch. I had it warmed up by the bakery but it was just less than lukewarm. The tomato was still cold. Other than that, it was a sumptuous sandwich. Bread was soft and there was a good amount of bacon.

Yelp
I discover there are 3 things I must order here -- house made ginger ale with sparkling water, maple bourbon butter tart and any of the cookies. The ginger ale is the best I have ever tasted. Forget those in a can. I can literally taste the ginger in this, with the slight gingery heat. The sparkling water (you can also choose still water) just makes it more refreshing, especially when the weather is warm. The cookies (I tried all 3 flavors) are the soft chewy kind. They remained soft the next day. It is hard to choose one as all are so delicious but if I can only get one, I will take the peanut butter. So good. The star item for me is the maple bourbon butter tart. The maple taste is not overpowering or sweet. The bourbon gives it a bit of kick. The filling is perfectly encased in the shortbread like crust which does not fall apart or crumble when bitten. Love the raisins in it too. It is a good accompaniment to unsweetened hot tea. I have tried some of the pastries but while nice, they are not wow. I prefer my croissants and kouign amann from other places. I will want to try the bread and sandwiches next time. It is a pity they do not sell coffee or tea here, so you have to go to other cafes in Granville island to have them with the baked goods. You can also find them at various farmer markets but the selection is more limited and mostly breads and pastries.

Yelp
I was in Granville Island and was walking around when I saw this bakery. I wanted to try the pistachio croissant, but I was told it's only available during the weekends. I ended up with the chocolate almond croissant. It was really crispy and full of chocolate/almond. It didn't disappoint.
google avatar

Johnny H.

Yelp
I was walking around the island when the smell of fresh bread drew me to walk into their doors. I love almond croissants and the server recommended it so I had to try it. It was fresh out of the oven and the filling was just oozing with buttery almond goodness. The exterior was flakey while the inside was soft with a slight chew. I would come back just to eat this again. One of the best almond croissants I've ever had!
google avatar

Yelp
Crack is not something I see everyday in a bakery. Well, at A Bread Affair they have a Toffee cookie aka Crack. Of course, I had to try it. Yes, it was yummy. Yes, I could get addicted to eating it everyday. What I was really interested in was their Canadian Maple Butter Tart. It did not disappoint. Tasted like sweet buttery maple goodness!! If you are not a real sweettooth like me, you probably will complain that it is too sweet. For me, it was just right. Definitely recommend dropping by A Bread Affair when you are at the Granville Usland Public Market in Vancouver, British Columbia. They make a multitude of other delicious looking baked goods. I look forward to trying more on future visits.

Yelp
Amazing staff , always smiling and making us feel welcoming. The bakery has organic certification and they use a slow fermentation process . The way all breads should be made ! From bread to sandwiches my husband devours when were in town to their out -of -this -world chocolate cookie .. They never disappoint :)

Yelp
I this bakery makes a delicious tofee cookie. The goodies caught my eye from outside and didn't disappoint. Very soft, chewy and sweet texture was a great dessert on top of some Dolce la leche Hagen daz. I also picked up a banana bread pudding, however wasn't impressed by the flavour. My first bite was a whole lotta cinnamon and clove--Too overpowering. The rest is a top notch variety breads and croissants---can't go wrong.

Armand L.

Yelp
Very good sandwiches and breads. It's very convenient and had vegetarian for my partner I appreciate that since I'm a total none vegetarian lol.

Yelp
All I wanted was to wander around Granville Island with a little treat and this chocolate croissant fulfilled all my dreams and more. The overall aesthetic of this place is simple but cozy. I would go here time and time again for my Granville Island snacky.

Yelp
Wouldn't sell me a piece of bread and butter for my kids after buying a sandwich for me. I was a regular here. Not tourist or kid friendly. What a joke. In Orange County any place would happily give it to me for free. They said buy a loaf or nothing. It's the only sandwich spot on Granville Island, and I sure wouldn't give them my business again. They have never been friendly, but this is ridiculous. There are plenty of other places to eat, that's for certain.
google avatar

Grace D.

Yelp
We stopped by this cute place to grab some things for a lunch on the go and I'd say it's a good choice for that. The prices are reasonable, especially for an all-organic place. Staff members are friendly and the items came quickly without plastic packaging. In addition to desserts and breads, they have a selection of premise sandwiches they can warm up. They also put out samples of their delicious bread and scones! We shared a savory scone, the "better than sex" brownie, and the "world's best" grilled cheese. The brownie was closer to delivering on the promise than the grilled cheese. The grilled apple-smoked cheddar on an apple-y bread was delicious, but it was dripping with grease and oil when warmed up. The brownie, with hazelnuts, was so chocolatey and moist! The top is a thin layer of a perfect dark chocolate icing. The savory scone was also good but not jaw-dropping. I'd definitely recommend the brownie. Even though the nearby public market is full of great options for food, this place is a worthwhile stop.

Yelp
Popped in on a beautiful Wednesday morning with my little man and cuzzo. I had a ham and cheese croissant which was so so so good. They're an organic bakery that's been around for about 8-9 years (according to the workers). They have really good fresh looking sandwiches on hearty baguettes - great for the park and sharing! Probably no more than $12 So good! Step in next time you're in Granville island!

Robin C.

Yelp
This place is amazing. We got a grilled cheese with tomato and avocado, 2 cookies and a scone. The service was very good and the food was delicious! So glad we tried A Bread Affair!!!
google avatar

Bo B.

Yelp
The baked goods here are so fluffy and delicious. The croissant was definitely one of the best ones I've ever had. The butter tart was too sweet for me.
google avatar

Emann B.

Yelp
Hankering for something sweet after our tasty lunch, my best mate and I wandered in and got two cookies, one browned butter double Valrhona and one toffee crack. Amazing! The toffee crack cookie was buttery, crispy edged, and chewy in the middle. Very addictive.
google avatar

Yelp
I specifically visited A Bread Affair at Granville Market to try their cookies. The oatmeal cranberry cookie is excellent. Its baked as a perfect circle and id 1/2" deep. I wish I would have bought more and will definitely visit again.
google avatar

Yelp
We are big fans of the bread loaves from here. Made fresh every morning, we have been back here at least four or five times. Our favourite is "Apple of My Eye", especially when eaten with nut butter! Five stars, must recommend!

Yelp
This place pretty much blew my mind. I have to say, the food in Vancouver was slightly underwhelming overall. Not to say I didn't enjoy myself in this iconic city, but I wouldn't be running back for the food. I would, however, be tempted by the thought of some baked goods from this spot. everything I had here was on point, from scones and sandwiches to the cream sandwiches, it was all fresh and perfectly well made. These guys were far and away the best spot on the peninsula they call Granville island*. If you're going whale watching (and you ABSOLUTELY should go whale watching while you're in Vancouver), stop here for breakfast and a snack for the boat, you won't be disappointed. __________________ For real though, it's not an Island...but you SHOULD come here on the small boats the run through false creak, as they are pretty darn cool.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to visit and find. While I knew it looked good I almost passed it up but my friend pointed it out that he was interested so we all went. The Brie with Avacado caught my attention. I probably ate it like an hour later and it still was delicious but for me so sweet. I don't like sweet things as the main part of a meal. Yet, I was still able to highly enjoy it. I got a maderine orange scone or something like that which as well was delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Great bread and vegetarian sandwiches in Grandville Island Vancouver BC. On a nice day, nice places to sit outdoors and have lunch or a snack.
google avatar

Edlyn W.

Yelp
My mom has been here before and made it a point to take me here. Immediately upon walking in, you get hit with the most amazing smell of fresh baked good. We got the classic Butter Croissant (CAD$4). It's soft, buttery, and flaky and just so simple but so good. I'm from Los Angeles but I'll definitely be coming back and hope to try their other items

Yelp
I've finally made it down to Granville Island to check out A Bread Affair! I wanted to try their Earl Grey Milk Tea Kouign Amann but it was all sold out so I decided to try the coconut black sesame & nouveau nutella kouign amann instead. I've never had a kouign amann before, so I was curious how they tasted. They were like a mix between a sticky bun and sugared croissant which had a crispy and sticky exterior and a buttery and flakey interior. The hazelnut chocolate was my favourite between the two. I love how rich and thick the hazelnut chocolate was! The coconut black sesame was also delicious and you could definitely taste the coconut but I was looking for more of a black sesame paste filling instead of black sesame sprinkles on top based on the name of the pastry. The Apple Cheddar Walnut Galette is the perfect combination of sweet and savory! The flavor may sound a little weird but the apple and cheddar actually complimented well with each other. The walnut on top added a nice crunchy texture. In addition, the pastry was also very buttery and flakey!

Yelp
If you like ALMOND CROISSANTS then this is definitely a place to hit up to get your fill! A Bread Affair has great almond croissants - that is my go-to every time. I appreciate how it is not super sweet and they even have a version that is "Chocolate Almond Croissant" which is the best of both a pain au chocolat and a almond croissant that is worth trying! Their staff are kind and welcoming - the person who served us was really passionate and gave us great recommendations! :) Because of COVID, there is a line that goes out the door and they ensure there is never more than 4 visitors inside at a time. When I went on a weekday, there was a line out the door (and you know that is a good sign) but don't worry, it goes quickly and is worth the wait :)

Yelp
Whenever I'm in Canada, my first stop of the day is usually at a Tim Hortons. However, I missed it on the way over here and was too lazy to make a U-turn. We just decided to have one of the many options on Granville Island. While there are many options in the public market there, I decided to go to A Bread Affair. The selection of desserts brought me in, but I ended up only getting sandwiches. I went with the Sicilian, French Ham and Havarti, and Turkey In A Dress. I'm a big fan of basil, so the Sicilian was a winner for me (although, there's never enough basil in everything I eat with it). But, since we went on Thanksgiving (USA), I also tried the Turkey In A Dress, which had turkey and stuffing on a cranberry loaf. Better than I expected. Like I said, the desserts looked good, but I didn't get any. Maybe next time. While the building is big, most of it was the kitchen. There isn't any seating inside, but there is a big area right outside the door. Prices were reasonable as the sandwiches were about $9.5 CAD (about $7.25 USD). Service was good as they were pretty friendly.

Yelp
if you're craving some fresh baked bread or pastries, then this is definitely the place to visit on granville island! - notes - both cash and card are accepted! - overall experience - located right next to granville island public market, we stopped by this bakery at around 12:00 pm on a wednesday afternoon. the line was a quite short at the time, so we were able to quickly order and pay. we had trouble deciding what to get, so we asked the friendly worker for some recommendations. the whole process didn't take a lot of time, so we were in and out within almost 5 minutes. - recommendations - highly recommend that you must try their double-baked almond croissant! 8/24/22 -double baked almond croissant: this croissant was definitely one of the best ones that i've ever had! the double baking causes the exterior to be extremely flakey and crispy, making it kind of messy to eat. but, the croissant was super buttery and full of almond flavor! the inside was chewy without being too tough, which was just the texture we were looking for. i just wished that there was a bit more almond filling since it really did elevate the taste of the croissant. for $5.25, it was definitely worth the price. (4.5/5) -orange and milk chocolate scone: wasn't the biggest fan of this scone just because i'm not one to enjoy the flavor of orange and chocolate combinations. but in terms of texture, it was pretty great! it was crunchy on the outside, and soft/crumbly on the inside. the flavor of the orange definitely stood out, and there was also a citrus/orangey glaze on top. the pieces of chocolate throughout the scone definitely added some extra sweetness too. it was definitely on the dense side, so i'd recommend sharing it. for the price of $4, it was worth it in my opinion. i just wished that we had gotten a different flavor. (3.5/5)

Yelp
This bakery was at the top of many lists I researched about what to do in Granville Island and it did not disappoint! It's a small shop located centrally at the square across from the public market. 4 customers in the store max. I got the double baked almond croissant for $5.25 and the bourbon butter tart for $4.20. Both were delicious! I really enjoyed the tart pastry of the butter tart and the insides were runny which I liked. You could really taste the bourbon flavour. The almond croissant was my favourite though. So soft and crispy and fluffy at the same time and really packed a well balanced almond punch. I would totally recommend grabbing a pastry from here and sitting outside and enjoying the buskers play live music. Parking will be street metered parking. They also take card and sell other premade sandwiches on-site.

Yelp
08/19/19: My boyfriend got the chocolate croissant and it was the saddest thing ever. It looked flakey, buttery, and delicious, however when we bit into it there was literally only small smears of chocolate. It was so sad like someone forgot to put all the chocolate in. I would much rather have preferred the chocolate croissants from Trader Joe's. I could not believe that it was considered chocolate. I got the butter maple tart because it caught my eye as something "Canadian." It was way too sweet for me, but interesting taste and nothing like I have had before. It had a buttery thick crust filled with raisin/maple filling. I think I would have enjoyed both items more if they had an option to heat the pastries.

Yelp
Double baked pistachio croissant is the bomb digity! I've never been to a bakery that serves pistachio croissants so I knew that was the one I had to try when my eyes fell on it. The lady told me they also have a double baked chocolate pistachio croissant but unfortunately it wasn't available at that moment. The pistachio scent is extremely fragrant. That's the first thing I noticed upon opening the paper bag holding my pistachio croissant. A few seconds later I was crunching down on layers and layers of crispy buttery goodness (the croissant portion) before I tasted the slightly sweet pistachio paste sandwiched in the middle of my heavenly croissant. Wow. Soooo good. Unfortunately I only had enough stomach space for the pistachio croissant, but I also got to sample the lemon cream cheese scone and that was delicious as well. They also have a wide variety of artisan breads that look amazing. I wished they sold Demi-loaves or rolls as it would allow customers to try more bread varieties before committing to one large loaf, or more samples. Nevertheless, highly recommend for anyone visiting Granville Island, especially the double baked croissants! You won't regret it!

Yelp
I'm an admitted carboholic and totally (and unabashedly) addicted to breads and pastries, so this place has a special appeal to me. I love all the breads here (so fresh and all so delicious), and the small samples they put out on the counter. There are also amazing scones and croissants and cookies, as well as ready-made sandwiches (be forewarned, they are substantial!) and sandwiches one can order that can be made fresh and grilled up. When I last visited, I wanted to get my kid a croissant and was torn between the chocolate and the almond options (she loves both kinds). I asked the lady at the counter which one she'd recommend and she said they had chocolate-almond croissants (both flavors together), not on display, but she'll get me one. Wow, how perfect! (My kid told me later that it was divine!). I also got a half baguette and had it sliced and it was great and gone in 5 hours (we all love bread in our house!). The aroma alone in this bakery is dangerous. Again, be forewarned. There's usually an awesome musician/singer in the makeshift square outside the front door here, making it the perfect spot to enjoy your pastries while sitting on the chairs right outside. Counter staff are nice but there have been times I've come into this store and the line hasn't moved an inch in 10 minutes and I've had to leave (this has actually happened a few times), so know that service can be spotty, depending on how busy it is (or if there's one customer holding up the whole line with an intricate order of sorts). Otherwise, this is a fabulous bakery - and very, very dangerous (!).

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place right before we headed out for whale watching. The pistachio croissant was so good!!! You can smell the bakery while walking along the island, smelled amazing. I wish I could have taken a bunch of stuff home.

Yelp
Found them at the Burnaby Farmers Market today and tried out their double baked almond croissant. Although the look of it was extremely disappointing (almost no almonds on top), I still really enjoyed it when biting into it! It was sweet but not overly so and not too buttery either! The amount of filling is quite thin but just enough to make this a treat but not overly indulgent. The pastry itself is flaky and the croissant was delicious!

Yelp
I normally love this place but their falafel wrap is a crime against food. Falafel is cooked. A smear of raw chickpea spread that doesn't even qualify as hummus is unforgivable. This should be pulled from their menu ASAP as it's single-handedly the worst item they've ever had and it makes me wonder if they've ever had falafel. I haven't seen food be this wrong since I tried the chilaquiles at The Naam. Imagine thinking your going to bite into delicious crispy falafel and instead find lukewarm bland mush. I didn't have time to go return it. The bread, pastries, and other sandwiches are great otherwise

Yelp
Stopped by here for a pre lunch snack while we waited for our table at Edible. They have a variety of baked goods and some samples of their bread. We tried out the apple cheddar walnut gallette and the double baked pistachio croissant. They were both so flaky and buttery. The apple cheddar had a nice flavour and the cheese wasn't too strong. The pistachio croissant was really good. It was a postachio chocolate croissant, making it even more delicious. Plenty of pistachio flavour with bits of chocolate. These pastries are also a pretty large size. Would definitely come back to try out more baked goods!

Yelp
Bread Affair is located in Granville Market. Locals and tourists alike come in to buy fresh loaves of bread, croissants and cookies! The breads have pretty interesting names... interesting aka sexual. I didn't look to deeply into the names and if they corresponded to the ingredients of the different loaves, but there is a large variety of loaves with different ingredients. They also sell half loaves of French baguettes which I thought was pretty cool. The cookies are pretty amazing if you like soft/cookie batter like cookies. I had the chocolate chip and it was soft and sweet and perfection. The young girl at the cash register was helpful, and the older lady was nice, but spoke in pretty broken English. The line can get pretty long and they do run out of items, so come early if you want to buy something specific.
