"Tiny, but mighty, this bibliophile’s delight makes you want to hole up and expand your gray matter. If they had a couch to curl up in, no one would leave. And you can get up close and personal with the writers as A Cappella hosts an impressive range of events from book signings, and author lunches to evening cocktails." - Brand Bird

I love this shop both for its selection of new titles, as well as the extensive collection of antique books- don’t forget to take a left just past the register to find the other section of the store. The displays by the entrance have lots of great recommendations from various book clubs, and there is also a section of employee recommendations. On my most recent visit I picked up a signed copy of Godfall by Van Jensen, among a few other good finds from the antiques section. The older books are very well organized by topic so I was able to find several good titles that pertain to my major in college. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Once visited in 2020 and didn’t realize the shop was closed except for pickup orders- luckily the man running the store was kind enough to take my preferences at the door, and offered me a few titles I would like and I was able to have a book to read that night because his recommendations were spot on. I used to visit infrequently when I lived in the perimeter, but now this shop is very close to me so I’ll be dropping in more often. Parking can be a little tricky but just make sure you’re brushed up on your parallel parking skills.

I'd been driving past A Cappella for a few years now and had always meant to go in. Today was my first time visiting and I had an amazing experience! Both of the employees working were kind and helpful, with clear knowledge and passion for all things literature. Great selection of new and used books, and overall a wonderful, inviting little store. I'll absolutely be back!

Google
Great new and used bookstore. There is street parking but no lot. You walk into the new bookstore section and then take a left turn to the used section. Included in the used book section are rare collector books priced at reusable prices. The used books have a price penciled on the first page. It felt good to hold a book and page through it, especially a book with lots of pictures.

Google
Cute local shop with all the popular books you might be looking for. They're open late enough so that you can go by after work and not stress to make it in time. The lady at the front was extremely nice and my husband and I can't wait to return!

Google
A lovely find! This is a charming locally owned bookstore that has an extensive program sponsoring authors and book signings at various venues in the city. You can order books online, and depending on your zipcode, they offer delivery to nearby neighborhoods. If you need to pick up, on the weekends, the business across the street allows parking. Otherwise, street parking is it. The staff are super nice. I noticed they have a section of used books for sale as well. I will browse there on my next visit.

Google
It's a very nice bookstore. Well organized. I felt their used book prices were a little high, but that did not stop me from purchasing. Parking is a bit of an issue. Staff was welcoming.

Google
A nice small neighborhood bookstore. New, used, and collectible books for sale. My only real complaint concerns the lack of books for young readers. Otherwise, it is a great little walk-up bookstore on the edge of Inman Park.

Google
Great bookstore, highly recommend stopping by if you are a book collector, great rare books section. I’ve been in person twice and I’ve ordered multiple books online associated with their numerous signing events. Staff have always been friendly and extremely helpful with any questions. Recommend signing up for their mailing list to stay up to date on events.

Yelp
Wonderful selection for a small boutique shop and great staff that will find and order whatever book you need. A wonderful local business to support. They also have great book signings and talks in the evenings.

David S.

Yelp
Nice little spot for new books. The used books selection is very mid, especially non-fiction. Generally you should never go to a used bookstore looking for something in particular, and I didn't in this case. The flipside, though, is that you hope there's enough of a diverse selection to find something. Staff was friendly and welcoming.

Yelp
Love this used and new bookstore in Inman Park. You'll find many Southern writers who have signed the book (that they wrote) for the former owner of the book. Those are the books sell for a lot of money here, especially if the writer is no longer alive. I bought a used copy of a book (hardcover) by Michael Lewis, not signed by him. Michael Lewis is from New Orleans but lives in the SFBA. Why are Southerners such good writers? Especially in a part of the country that tends to be very undereducated. I saw Forrest Gump (hardcover) signed by the author too. Now I know what Winston Groom's signature looks like. Winston Groom is from Alabama but born in D.C., and he eventually moved away from the South to NYC. Of course, lots of David Sedaris books here. He's another Southern writer from North Carolina but born in NY. He lives in England now (where his mother is from).

Yelp
A Cappella has some of the best customer service in the business. I order from another state, and they always pack the books professionally to ensure they arrive in the same condition they left. And when there's an issue, they always handle it quickly and with no hassle at all. As a collector, I have high expectations for the books I purchase, and A Cappella almost always exceeds them. And in the very few times they haven't, they have always made it right. A Cappella is the perfect example of why everyone should support local, independent booksellers.

Yelp
Really cool spot! Local Atlanta bookstore. New and used books as well as antiques and collector's items. Lots to choose from! Great deals on used books. Friendly staff. Parking can be tricky as it's street city parking but well worth the stop!

Kevin C.

Yelp
I ordered a book online from them through their website. The book was as described, good quality first edition of a ~98 year-old volume. Shipping was lightning fast, and book was carefully packaged.

Brenda R.

Yelp
This space was just too small to shop. I was the 5th customer so I got squeezed back out the front door. Just so you know ahead of time.

Caity A.

Yelp
Tiny little bookstore that's hard to find street parking, but still quite darling. I typically enjoy larger used bookstores that take a while to go through, but it was nice not to feel too overwhelmed with options. Good selection of new and used, and everything is really well-labeled. They even had a whole section for new items for those that frequent this place often. Worth stopping in to support a small local biz if you're in the area!

Josh H.

Yelp
Great local spot with a well curated selection. Not the best shop if you're looking for specific releases but their eclectic selection of new, used & collectible books make up for this. Support your local bookstore!

Robin S.

Yelp
I've been chasing A Cappella around L5P/Inman Park for years. They try to hide but I find them. The latest space, where they've been for a while now, is a bit smaller than previous digs, which can be a bit of a bother if the people have massed as they had yesterday during Small Business Saturday. Still, given that the hoards within are my kind of people, it's all good. Great mix of new and used. Great staff recommendations. And they had a vampire novel by Octavia Butler! Oh, and food trucks park across the street on Saturdays: The Pickle, Doggy Dogg and the Queen of Cream.

Jim D.

Yelp
This place is terrific. I recently received a gift certificate for my birthday and virtual shopping, email ordering and no contact pickup was all a breeze!

Brandon C.

Yelp
This has to be hands-down the best small, indie bookstore I've encountered in Atlanta, and one of the best period. Well-curated, attentive staff, and unique offerings -- many signed, first editions. Additionally, their newsletter and website are important troves of information along with making you aware of their public readings and events. Don't miss this one.

Kami M.

Yelp
My favorite bookstore in all of ATL! You can't go wrong with any of their selections. The lady at the front desk is super sweet and helpful. Be sure to check out the back too - they have some collectors items!

Trickster O.

Yelp
Good selection of books, Brilliant service and great communication. I Live in the UK and got this book delivered in under a month (which is good going especially due to current circumstances) Thanks Frank

Josh M.

Yelp
All of the staff here are so friendly and helpful, and their book recommendations are spot-on. They have an amazing collection of signed new books, as well as an incredible used book section. Plus, you can shop online!

Jillian M.

Yelp
A Cappella Books is a wonderful, local owned bookstore. They have a great selection of new and used books AND they put on tons of local events with authors. I absolutely love A Cappella and try to buy all my books here to support local!

Michael B.

Yelp
I cannot believe I drove across town to this. No one said hi or even acknowledged that I was in there. I found this very bewildering as three people were working and we had to step around each as the shop is so small. Didn't see anything particularly special and I almost never leave a shop empty handed. After reading the effusive accolades they used to describe themselves I was very disappointed in deed.

Loren B.

Yelp
This is such an amazing bookstore. I visited yesterday for Chef Vivian Howard's book signing event for Deep Run Roots. The staff was friendly and the space is charming. Street parking is available.

Bita N.

Yelp
This is a nice little store, with cozy setting, good variety of books (pretty good for the rather small size of the store), and prices not too high (could be slightly lower for second-hand but to be fair the books there are in quite good condition so I would say they are good value for the money). I liked my experience in A Cappella Books and I'd visit it there more often if only it was closer to city center.

Vincent V.

Yelp
A local bookstore with brains that's as far from a corporate bookstore as it can possibly get. It's not a big store, they don't stock tons and tons of the latest bestsellers...but they can help you find some truly interesting books for your personal collection or gifts for hard to please book lovers. On my last trip there, I found some great books on graffiti artists and their cultural influences (not exactly something you'd just grab off a shelf at Borders et al). A Cappella frequently has live music in the back of the store or out in front on the sidewalk weather permitting. The whole store is very involved with the community and the staff absolutely know their stuff. A Cappella stocks a large number of out of print and rare titles. They do purchase books and collections, but their standards are pretty high so don't expect to show up with some Danielle Steel paperbacks and have them gushing over what you're brought.

Yelp
A Capella Books has been a staple of downtown mom-n-pop book shopping for as long as I can remember. They carry both new and used titles intermingled on the same shelves so that you only have to look in one place for what you want. The books are well-divided into major categories, as well as more minor, specialized genres (ie: Beat Generation, Atlanta flavor, and sections for cult authors ie: Dave Eggers, Hunter Thompson). As a reader with pretty picky tastes, I've always been happily surprised at what turns up on the A Capella shelves. I've found out of print and autographed books for completely reasonable (and sometimes cheaper than reasonable) prices. Though the selection somewhat depends on what they order used, they have a much more tasteful array than most other stores that carry a lot of used product. There's a good mix of titles for the literary, the mainstream, and the research-oriented. My one quibble with the store might be their lack of periodicals. I'd expect a store of this nature to carry a decent slew of literary magazines and journals, but they don't really even have any other than McSweeney's, which is a disappointment. Still, their selection of other books beats most other new and used stores if you're looking for things besides the bestseller lists. They also have a small side room where live readings and musical performances sometimes go on. The range of authors and musicians they bring in vary from literary to local. The only one I've ever been to was a small and very peculiar reading by musician Ian Svenonious (from Nation of Ulysses, the Make*Up and several others), which was interesting to get to see. A good store in a city that seems unfairly devoid of literary flavor.

Yelp
So, here's the thing.. I became familiar with A Capella Books after reading about a street artist who would be talking about his book at the Little Five Points locale, and after visiting I was HOME. I have a growing library, filled with every kind of art, culture, cooking, political book you could imagine, my passion however is new and vintage feminist literature, and the moment I stepped foot in A Capella, I knew I would have no problem finding my way around the store and filling in the holes in my collection. The staff is wonderful, the prices are more than reasonable, and though the space is somewhat limited, a lazy week day afternoon in L5P isn't complete without a trip of A Capella Books.

Yelp
I like writing reviews on my first-time visits to places that impress me. Here's another. I've known about this store for some time but went there for the first time yesterday. I think it used to be on Euclid but now its next door to Savage Pizza on Mooreland Ave. I am very impressed with their selection for a rather small space. I found five of the eighteen books on my list. I may have found more if I looked longer. Or asked for help. Not that I was going to buy all eighteen at once. I'm impressed with how neat the place is. Bookstores can easily become haphazard. All the books are neatly stacked. I had no problems navigating the aisles. I recommend this store to all.

Matt C.

Yelp
Reeeally small bookstore (the picture makes it look much larger than it is). With a very high quality used selection. And a few new books also. Some nice finds in african-american lit, beat lit, and 20th century lit. The used & rare books are all listed online, so you're not going to find a bargain here. However, you're very likely to find a good read, which is ultimately what's important.

Eleanor C.

Yelp
A Cappella Books is the best used book store I've ever been to (with the exception of Raven Used Books in Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA). I really cannot get enough of this book shop. The selection of rare and fine books is astounding. If you bought a book a week here for the rest of your life, you would be on top of the BEST recent fiction and non-fiction writing alike. The poetry selection is such a relief- none of the nutrient-deprived top selling pathetic excuse for writing a book popular poetry you will find at Borders. I'M IN LOVE with A Cappella Books.

Yelp
Located in Little 5 Points, this new&used book store has a refreshing feel from the usual bookstore. I was a little bummed that every single book I found and liked was new and not used. It was kinda a tease. I do think the used collection should be displayed a bit more inviting fashion. and with that being said it could use some expansion. BUT my boyfriend did some pretty cool used books along the lines of Darwinism stuff and what not. And that was great! bc that is what he was looking for!! It is welcoming in it own way, not the warm and cozy feel but A Cappella books does send you that feeling of a true local bookstore that puts in a lot of effort to make customers happy! And oh yeah, the store hosts a ton of book signings!! Now that is pretty cool.

Fiona S.

Yelp
My only experience with A Capella is selling books to them, since I didn't have time to look around. They take a pretty wide range of books, from classical political theory texts (Locke, Hobbes, those guys) to contemporary humor and fiction (Joy Luck Club and Chelsea Handler's book.) I sold them about 8 books for $20 cash, but could have taken $45 used-exhcange credit. Not too shabby! Of course, I need to go back and actually peruse the shelves!

Cameron L.

Yelp
I never walk in here without seeing a bunch of stuff I want, be it new or used. Among the new titles, I particularly love their local-interest section; there aren't a lot of bookstores that consider our area to have much interesting to read about beyond umpteen Paula Deen cookbooks and Tom Wolfe's "A Man in Full." While the used selection keeps expanding and contracting (based on whatever they're trying to do with the Storefront of Doom next door at the moment), it's always decent-sized and features a number of titles you'd actually want to ready. If you remember Oxford Too, the A Cappella used section is a great place to get your old-book-smell fix.

Troy N.

Yelp
Great independent bookstore! What's Good 1. Wide selection of "left of center" books (politics, music, art, history, etc.). 2. The cheapie bin on the sidewalk has books for $.50 to $2.00. 3. Their selection of books on punk rock is unparalled! My only "complaint" is that it's a bit cramped, but it's L5P and the rent's probably high. Better cramped than absent! Parking can be very dicey. Better off parking on a side street and walking a couple of blocks.

Coley W.

Yelp
This new and used bookstore specializes in out-of-print rare titles and first editions in addition to a large selection of reasonably priced used paperbacks. Much like the small Meg Ryan-owned bookstore in You've Got Mail, this indie store can't compete with the selection and prices offered by larger Tom Hanks-owned big boxes. But this store has heart, and you can't put a price on heart.

F G.

Yelp
Thoughts about A Cappella Books from my online order experience: Superior pre contract communication. Excellent packaging techniques employed to insure a safe arrival for a rare and treasured work. This seller is a consummate professional worthy of any appreciative reader and/or collector. Thank you for the this singular opportunity and experience. A fifth rating star would have been awarded if there had been any post contract communication from an agent from the store. Andy in Seattle

Christian A.

Yelp
Super cool vibe with a great selection for an indie bookstore! The staff hand picks certain releases (new and old), which makes it easy to find a read you would've never considered or just browsed over. Many of the copies are signed and sold at the market price. All in all we bought 5 books; I became a member and will definitely be coming back!

Bradley J.

Yelp
Sadly never been to the store, on dealt with them by phone. Great customer care, great support. Helped a lot when books I ordered through them went missing in transit, remailed the package at no extra charge. I intend to visit in person , sounds like an amazing store. Check out their book signing events.

Lucy W.

Yelp
Cute and tiny little used bookshop chock full of books! As with any used book store, the selection will vary on each visit...from classics to current top sellers (I spotted the Dragon Tattoo series the last time I visited). There's also a shelf with books about Atlanta and its neighborhoods. My favorite is the rack of old classics toward the front of the store. The only thing lacking is space, and maybe a chair to sit on to check out any finds. I hope this shop receives enough patrons to stay open...there are far too few independent and used bookstores left!

Chuck R.

Yelp
This is the best bookstore in Atlanta, period. None other comes close.

Sotonye M.

Yelp
I've only been to ACB a handful of times, but they have a wide selection of books and the staff is super friendly and helpful. The reason I'm writing a review is because recently I lost my wallet at the store and two of the store's employees contacted me via Facebook to let me know that my wallet was found and safe. Their customer service clearly goes above and beyond. I wish I could give them more than just five stars because I really do appreciate it. I will definitely be back to purchase more books. Thank you!

Bailey J.

Yelp
Quite possibly the second most pretentious place in Little Five Points. But the staff can be helpful at times and the selection is kind of okay.

Chris T.

Yelp
Terrific locally-owned bookstore, specializing in beat authors, music books, art & photography, local writers and politics. Good service, good prices, funky Little Five Points location. They are very active in the community, putting together readings, signings, poetry nights, music performances, lectures, etc.

Todd D.

Yelp
Right up at the top of bookstores. Wasn't sure what the selection might be as I parked on the street and looked at the small, tidy exterior. Once inside you realize that this is what a great bookstore is: well curated, beautiful displays, cozy, and tons of books that catch your attention as you wander. I could have left with more than the two books selected (one from my list, one on impulse), but flying limited my haul. I'll be back.

Will D.

Yelp
I've found some really good books here over the years, most memorable probably the Phil Ochs biography "Death Of A Rebel", some nice rare Harlan Ellison, Kerouac and like that. Sorry I was so strapped for time yesterday that I couldn't make it back to indulge in the great sale they have going on this month.

Smith S.

Yelp
This is probably my second favorite bookstore (Charis is #1!) and until recently I would have said that without hesitation. I live less just down the street and have been going to A Cappella since I was old enough to drive and I've always loved their selection! Back in the day I would be able to go, ask for a title and then if they were out of it or didn't have it they would immediately ask if I wanted them to order it or call another local indy store. I worked for another local bookstore (R.I.P.) and can say that this is the usual practice for indy booksellers in Atlanta. My beef with A Cappella is that lately I've gone in and that they've not had the books I have wanted (that's something that is just going to happen) and instead of offering to order them for me the employees have just walked away! On the first occasion in which this happened I asked if I did indeed have the title/ author correct and was told, "I'd have to look it up but you can do that online." WHAT???? Yeh, so basically this bookstore is great if you know what you are looking for and where it would be, if you just want to browse and find something awesome, if you have interests in their specialty areas (Beat, Southern, Civil RIghts, Music, Art, Politics, etc.) but don't expect to get something akin to customer service. Not that I condone it, BUT; it is common to get sort of tired looks/ attitude when shopping in the Little Five Points area during the weekends. Because I live in the neighborhood I tend to go in the evenings on the weekends or during the week unless I just HAVE to go during the day Saturday/ Sunday. This isn't the sort of attitude that I mentioned having encountered. Sorry for going on and on about the last few encounters I've had- I'm just disappointed!

Alisha M.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite bookshops. Not a huge selection but the gentleman there was super friendly and recommended some excellent books to me. Very intuitive to what I might enjoy. They had mostly newer books and therefore priced as new books. Nice ambiance but no where to sit and read.

Laurie B.

Yelp
I always walk out with something great that I've bought at A Cappella every time I go in because I will have invariably seen at least three amazing things on their shelves or on display. Through their used books or from their purchasing of new titles, their selection is so wonderfully thoughtful, varied and interesting. No other store is quite like it for it's support of author events and the literary life of Atlanta. It always reminds me of why I love books so much. I have worked at the old independents like Oxford and it is much the same feeling to me. The new location on Haralson at DeKalb Ave. is a lovely new spot. I find it easier to get to than trying to navigate Moreland's left or right hand turns, parking, etc. A breeze to get to and not far at all from the old location It's a super-pleasant with natural light and wood floors, making it a cozy place to browse cool books like "New York in the 70's" or to check in with the crew about what's a new must-read.

Lauren S.

Yelp
Small store but good selection. It is a mixture of old and new, I thought is was well edited. I bought two French detective novels for four dollars each. Their value is superb.
