"If you understand basic Portuguese, you’ll already have a fair understanding of what Casa das Janelas com Vista, located in Lisbon’s Bairro Alto neighborhood, is all about. Who could say no to the house of windows with views, located in the high neighborhood? It’s basically a postcard come to life: steep cobblestoned streets laced with old streetcar tracks and colorful townhouses, the glow of antique street lamps illuminating the vintage cars that chug up and down them, Gothic ruins and rust-colored roofs and a still river in the distance." - Tablet Hotels

Where to Stay in Lisbon When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"I enjoyed the aptly named B&B — there really are windows and views — and while the rooms are on the smaller side they’re comfortable and come with free Wi‑Fi, air conditioning, clean en suite bathrooms, and a bountiful breakfast." - Matthew Kepnes

The 6 Best Hotels in Lisbon (Updated 2025)

"Translated as a “House of Windows with a View,” the name truly fits — there are stunning views from most windows. The B&B feels homey with personal touches like unique artwork, fresh flowers, and an eclectic mix of vintage furniture. I love that breakfast is included and served at a communal table, which makes it easy to meet fellow travelers; the spread is delicious, featuring homemade cakes, fresh bread, croissants, and rotating Portuguese specialties. Located in lively Bairro Alto but on a quiet street, the rooms are on the smaller side yet have essentials like an in-room safe, air conditioning, and a TV on request; big windows let in lots of natural light and some rooms even have little balconies. En-suite bathrooms are spacious with rainfall showers and really nice complimentary toiletries. It’s a great central, budget-friendly option if you want more privacy than a hostel." - Matthew Kepnes

My wife writes: The staff of this establishment greeted us throughout the day and evening with generous hospitality, attentiveness, and care. The morning breakfast was beautifully presented and full to the brim with healthy and vibrant options. The environment of the community room is cozy and also conducive to peaceful rest and rejuvenation between outings. Being able to make tea throughout the day was another great boost. Casa Janelas Com Vista is wonderfully situated in a great district. There was considerable noise from people in the street at night, but thanks to solid windows and earplugs, we managed to get decent sleep and rest.

Charming small hotel in the Bario Alto district of Lisbon.|Room was lovely, super comfy bed and great bathroom. Fluffy towels and good bathroom amenities. No TV in the room which didn't bother us.|There's a common area in the basement where you take breakfast, but is available for use all day for Tea/Coffee and cake or fruit which is a nice touch.|There seem to be issues with the Door while we were there. The reception is not available 24/7, so you are given a code/QR code to access after 10pm. A few people were not able to get in, and we found the same ourselves when we got back late one nice. The staff were very apologetic and said they had asked for the company to come and look at the door.|Mario Alto is the lively area of Lisbon but we were not disturbed by noise, but location could be tricky for the less mobile - the hills are steep and the cobbles make dragging a suitcase a bit of a workout.

We had a lovely time at Casa das Janelas Com Vista. It’s a very charming guesthouse with a warm, homely feel — more like a boutique B&B than a traditional hotel. The staff were welcoming, the interiors beautifully decorated, and the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. It’s a perfect spot for exploring Lisbon while still feeling like a peaceful retreat. The only small downside is that it would be helpful to have a fridge in the room, especially during the hotter months. It would make it easier to keep drinks or snacks cool. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily return!

Lovely room and fantastic service. The room is spacious and has a large bathroom with an incredibly comfortable bed. Easy to find off a quiet street very close to the main busy streets, 10min walk to the centre. The lobby is very well designed with a lovely breakfast and a self service bar. The staff helped with a very last minute surprise for a proposal with free champagne and flowers in the room, so friendly and accommodating, really went above and beyond to make it a special experience for us. I will definitely return here and definitely recommend.

As a professional in the travel industry & used to luxury stays, I have really high standards when it comes to hotels! As a designer, I fell in love with the interior decor! My experience was absolutely fantastic from start to finish! The staff facilitated my 11pm arrival with an online check in&clear instructions and had prepped my room in a way that felt really welcoming! As this was a very last minute booking, only the entry level category was available, the room&bathroom were beautiful, but I feel for two people you may wish to opt for a larger room! For one, it was perfect and I liked having a juliet balcony! Bed was comfy, decor was tasteful and not overloaded! The bathroom was small but the walk in shower was a good size itself! The only note I have is that the hot water tap made a bit of a loud whistling noise when it was on (possibly due to the building being old, but Ill take the trade off for the lovely character, tall ceilings and period features) but the water pressure&temp were excellent! The staff in the am were very polite and breakfast is served in a friendly relaxed manner that makes guests feel like they are guests at a friends house. They also stored my luggage in an individual locker (with only my stuff in it) whilst I enjoyed my last day in the city! Ive only given the room 4 stars for the size/shower-bit of corridor noise, but Id like to state that overall this was a great stay considering the price point as well (which is very fair), its fair to say that my stay was comparative to a 4/5* hotel with the price of a 2*. Don’ t change a thing! Looking forward to future stays!

We had a wonderful stay here. Rooms are very clean and smell divine thanks to local diffusers. We had a stunning view over the city. Breakfast was perfect, a huge selection of fruit, salad, nuts, yoghurt, pastries, home made cake, cheese and ham, with eggs cooked to order if desired. Breakfast is in a communal space which is open 24/7, with quirky decoration. Home made lemonade, coffee and cake are always available. Staff made us feel very welcome and at home. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Overall, our stay was enjoyable. We encountered an issue with our room, but the staff promptly addressed it. The location is convenient, allowing easy access to many popular areas on foot. The breakfast was excellent, offering a variety of delicious options. The morning staff was polite, though not particularly warm or inviting. At times, it was difficult to get their attention for fresh eggs, making it feel a bit awkward to interrupt them. While our room lacked a view, it was spacious enough for comfort. A full-length mirror in the room would have been a welcome addition.

We stayed six nights at Casa de Janelas. Perfect location on a quiet street but centrally located near restaurants and markets. Room was very comfortable, breakfast good with coffee, tea, fruit and cakes available at all times. Staff was amazing- so kind and helpful! Recommend!
