But a train ticket to Caen and eat at this restaurant. You can then go back home, and I promise the trip will have been worth it. This Michelin-starred gem was the highlight of our France trip. 7 plates for 62€ underplays the value of the food. Perfect preparation, incredible flavors, and an emphasis on seasonal and local, which is fantastic. Very good service, an extensive wine list, and a lovely small space that you hate to leave when the courses finish.
The amuse was three bites from the chef, the tastes of which resurfaced during the full meal: a codfish fritter, light and salty, a tomato soup gelee, and a perfectly flaky biscuit. Courses included perfectly-prepared turbot, melt-in-your-mouth lamb, a beautiful tartar with tart mango pickle, and a cucumber gazpacho with langoustine fritters. Deserts were another experience, and the raspberry zabaglione desert blew us away. Clearly well-trained, the kitchen shows off its abilities and range throughout.
