A Hidden Gem in Portugal! This restaurant is an absolute must-visit if you’re looking for an authentic Portuguese dining experience. From the moment we stepped in, we felt the warmth of a true family-run establishment. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely meal. The food was simply outstanding! The grilled sardines were fresh and perfectly seasoned, served with crispy potatoes and a refreshing lemon wedge. The seafood rice was rich in flavor, with plump shrimp and a deliciously savory broth. Every bite transported us straight to the heart of Portugal. The service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about their food. They made us feel like part of the family, ensuring we had everything we needed for a fantastic meal. If you’re in Portugal and want to experience traditional flavors with incredible hospitality, this is the place to go. Highly recommended!❤️

A Grade is a great place to eat real authentic Portuguese food. A little hard to find but worth it. This is where most of the locals are going to eat. Have the rice and seafood or the baked octopus. The prawns are the best I had in Porto. Also you have to have the desert. It's delicious!. The staff and owner are very friendly ready to make you happy with the great food.

At one point, we thought we were lost, but luckily, we eventually found the restaurant. The food was very delicious, and I personally loved the seafood rice and octopus. We had a wonderful time chatting and eating in the outdoor setting.

Google
Wonderful authentic food. Mostly locals in which is a good sign. I had a local fish with potatoes and veg and washed down with a nice sangria. Food is amazing and owners were really friendly.

What an amazing service. It’s a pure family restaurant. The family is cooking. The food was the best ever. I’ve never had this pure and good food. I’ve been Here twice in two days. It was the best, all the flavours.. I can not even describe. I’ve been to Venice, Rome, but this place has it all. I love to have shared dining, We’ve had a reservation at Adega sao nicolao, but it was SO overpriced and we ordered 1 wine and it was so expensive, like €6 and not even what we would pay in Holland. Go to A Grade, do not doubt. It is a must to go here

The place is small but cozy. The waitress who I think is the owner was a very nice and happy fellow. The food was very good. For the appetizer I would strongly suggest: see clams and fried sardines. For the main dish we got the rabbit and seafood rice and it was great especially the seafood rice. Great place with good atmosphere and food

Very friendly staff and delicious home made style food. Wine was great too. Love the location.... In between apartments... So picturesque.

Yelp
The Quick: Try to get a table outside and enjoy all the seafood goodness with a bottle of house white wine (excellent and very cost effective). Really enjoyed everything we ate. Family owned, very casual. We came earlier in the day and were able to get a 9:30pm reservation later that night. Staff was helpful. Overall great experience just a few steps off the main road but much more authentic and peaceful.

Yelp
"Oh, my aching tentacles" (Squidward T) My friend and I had the fortune of stumbling upon A Grade after becoming lost and hungry in the steep Ribeira alleyways of Porto. Our eight arms and legs were hurting, so we needed to sit down, rest, and eat! A Grade has been recommended by both Rick Steves and Lonely Planet in the past for their delicious traditional dishes, so even though this family-run restaurant is hidden away from more touristy areas, reservations are generally needed. Seating is limited in this small space, and all tables had reserved signs on them upon our arrival. In desperation we asked to be squeezed in, and they graciously accommodated us. We couldn't believe our luck as we noticed a handful of parties were turned away after us. An American couple sitting next to us had been referred to A Grade by locals to sample the best octopus in the city. We had planned on ordering the seafood rice, but changed our minds after our conversation with them. We ordered the octopus fillets with rice, and after one bite it octopied our hearts! Sooo tender! It really did somewhat taste like chicken! There may have been a bit of guilt involved in eating this dish after having watched "My Octopus Teacher" last year, though not enough to stop devouring the plate. We also ordered the grilled sardines and some salt cod fritters (Pasteis de Bacalhau)--both were excellent. Our waiter was professional and possessed a spectacularly witty sense of humor, entertaining us throughout our meal. I highly recommend eating at A Grade...and I give it an A grade! If you're as lucky as us, you might even hear a Fado performance from another restaurant around the corner. I'm guessing the English translation of the song was, "I want to hold your hand, hand, hand, hand... hand, hand, hand, hand." **Credit cards are accepted here, but they prefer payment by cash.

Yelp
A Grade is a hole in the wall mom and pop where we had our first meal in Portugal. It was a recommendation from someone from home who said the seafood rice is life changing. Well I don't know about life changing but it is very good. So good that we ordered a second serving. The octopus rice was also very good and a must try. The clams and fried sardines were prepared normally but delicious as well The restaurant is located near the river but in a small alley. The service is personal and friendly. I highly recommend it and avoid the tourist restaurants on the water.

Yelp
Very small restaurant with very good food. Be ready to wait in line since they have just a few tables. Make reservations ahead.

Yelp
Took and honored my same day telephone reservation. Good food and service, fine wine list.

Yelp
This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. We went just when they opened since we had no reservations. We ordered the grilled prawns and roast kid. The prawns were overcooked but seasoned well. The roast kid is actually goat. It was good.

Yelp
Came here during my trip to Porto, definitely felt more like a family-run restaurant. The food was decent and the atmosphere and service were pleasant. The experience fit well with the rest of the vibe I got from Porto generally. :-)

Yelp
This was the best food we had in Porto! Three of us had seafood; grouper, fried sardines, and octopus. We were all very happy with our dishes. Good service and wine recommendation. Great value. Make a reservation.

Yelp
Rating: 3.5 stars Restaurant located within walking distance to the waterfront on a tucked away street. Seems like a lot of locals also eat here. Food: fried sardines with tomato rice and steamed clams. Both dishes were good staple dishes. Service: very friendly and offered complimentary port tasting at the end. Overall, a good local dining experience, but not "outstanding".

Yelp
This was recommended by our hotel as a place which feels like eating a Portuguese grandmas cooking. It did not fail to disappoint as everything we had was very tasty. We ordered the octopus salad to start and had the vegetable soup and the cabbage and potato soup. All of which were delicious. We also had the seafood pasta and the fried whiting fish filets with vegetables and tomato rice. Super tasty although they could have given a larger portion. Prices were a little higher than most restaurants but the service was fast and friendly. Definitely a good place to go for some Portuguese home cooking!

Yelp
Typical family restaurant. Very hard to get a table, food is tasty, fresh and simple. For sure not a turist trap with super kind staff and shity food. Prices around 20€ per person(main dish+drink) Recommend it!

Yelp
Romantic restaurant, that feels like stepping back in time. Great spot for local cuisine, it's small, romantic, and tasty. The owner is very attentive, making sure we had all we needed. My wife and I don't eat Gluten, and they we accommodating, prepping a fried fish dish with out the breading. It was a great spot to spend the evening together.

Yelp
Excelent food, amazing service. It os like being at home. Don't forget to have a Vinho Verde!

Yelp
Tiny mom and pop type restaurant hidden round the corner from a busy street. It was empty when I arrived just before noon but was filling up by the time I left. I ordered the clams and the roasted octopus and I think it was the owner who served me. He answered any questions I had and was very attentive during my meal. The clams were cooked in some kind of white wine and was soooooo good. The roasted octopus was served with some rice on the side and was super filling but very good.

Yelp

Yelp
This wonderful little restaurant is in an alley off another alley just off the riverside in Porto. We wouldn't have known about it but for Yelp. Our landlord also recommended it - we could see the roof of their building from the window of our apartment. We had stopped by earlier in the day to make a reservation. Good that we did - they turned people away that evening. The food was great. We tried goat for the first time. Very interesting flavor - different from beef and lamb, the meats we are more familiar with. I don't know when I'll have the opportunity to have goat again, but I know I'll have it.

Yelp
Best meal we had in Porto. Lunch was easier to find a spot. Off the alley. Awesome homemade PiriPiri...if you like seriously hot, (Tapatio folks need not apply). Caldo verde, pork & beef exceptional. Tuna salad too.

Yelp
This place is great. Very generous with food and wine. Every dish we had, sole, hearing, camerones, soup and salad were superb. Wines they suggested were great. Post meal ports finished off the night happy. Remember this is Portugal dinner doesn't start at 5

Yelp
One of my goals in Portugal is to try as many different preparations of bacalhau as possible. This one was lightly crusted with bread on top, and was served with roasted potatoes and other vegetables. The bacalhau was very flavorful, and the portions were very large. If not for being an American, and not wanting to take the food home (because we had all of our meals planned, and were unlikely to eat things that weren't planned for), I would have saved the rest for later. I was very full after this meal. On top of the delicious bacalhau, this place also had very good coffee. I am not a coffee drinker, but I ordered some after my meal and was very impressed.

Yelp
Supposedly open for dinner at 5:30, my wife and I stopped after seeing 2 tables with patrons. However, when I entered, a rear table of adults eating, looked annoyed and started talking rapidly in Portuguese. A man approached and I asked for a table for 2. This produced rapid, animated conversation between him and a woman at the back table. In an unfriendly manner, the man wrote 6:15 in a piece of paper which we learned he meant no table for 45 minutes. So, beware that open does not mean open here. And, it was not a pleasant experience.
